What nobody tells you about losing weight

One thing that is less an issue of 'what I didn't know about losing weight' and more one of 'what I didn't know about losing weight THIS WAY' is that, now that I've internalised the science of CICO, for the first time in any of my efforts to drop weight, I have a weapon with which to fight evening snack attacks (in some cases 'snack' is used loosely and we're talking about a post-dinner meal). What I mean is that when I've tried other stuff in the past (low carb, trying not to eat after a certain hour, etc.), I didn't truly *KNOW* that it was working, I just hoped it was. So when evening or late-night snack cravings struck I was inclined to succumb to the doubt of not knowing and to give into those cravings. With MFP and CICO, lately, if I'm tempted to eat something after a full dinner, it's easier for me to ask myself the question of whether I'm actually hungry, or whether it's that I'm bored or whatever, simply because I have faith in the process. If I skip the snack I WILL lose (not I MAY lose), and it gives me peace of mind that makes this process quite simple. As others have said, simple but not easy. But I'll take simple!!!31

I had no butt when I was overweight and even less now. But what I do have is much perkier (and therefore looks much more shapely) because I have strengthened those muscles back there. That and certain yoga poses can help. But try to do private classes (don't do them at home) because you may be doing the poses wrong and seriously do some long term damage. Private courses give you great one on one attention.
I had no but before and nothing after. Lunges are good, squats are good, but what helped me the most has been weighted hip thrusters!
That just sounds dangerous!!
nah they're pretty awesome. You can do them laying on the floor too.
Heck yeah! Hip thrusts gave me my booty back after losing 75 pounds. Of course, I was in a surplus to facilitate building muscle. I can now hip thrust 270#+ (haven't tested my max in a while).14 -
No one told me I'd have to buy new clothes! Before I started losing weight I was practically bursting out of medium sized tshirts but I refused to go up to a large as I didn't want to have to buy all new clothes (hence the weightloss). The problem now is that a medium is just hanging off me so I still need to buy new clothes, just in a size small instead of large!24

I never used to have them or at least notice it. I wonder if it's because I no longer really crave sweets or junk on regular days so the only cravings left are hormonal and so they stand out more? All I know is I'm gonna invest in a couple of high quality choclate bars to store for next month.Seattleovercast wrote: »Ladies only guys proceed to next person
So my time of month had been 27 days after last time ended as I gained weight and i thought age it moved to 23 days after last stopped well as I am losing weight I noticed it is going back to less frequent last month was 25 and this one was 26.
After a month of healthy eating mine swung from 28-29 days, to 35!!! My husband and I both freaked out a little although I figured it was the changes to my diet. The next month it was back to 28.
How interesting! These two comments kind of go together for me. I've been doing this two months now, and in those two months my cravings—which were not so much for chocolate but for as much salt and fat as I could possibly find—have disappeared. And since the cravings were how I knew my period was on its way I had no idea when it struck these past two months. Unfortunately, unlike @Seattleovercast my cycle has actually gotten SHORTER! You may have stolen my extra week of peace. I might be willing to give it up not to have the cravings though ...
Now that you mention it, I can always tell when it's time because all the sugar, fat, and salt cravings I dealt with on a daily basis all but disappear until right before Shark Week. My awareness to it has developed!4 -

270# is awesome. I got up to 245#, then stopped doing them as often and I am working my way back up. Last weight was 225# so I am getting there.6 -

The book Strong Curves has several different programs for building a booty and nice legs. You do some variation of a hip thrust with every workout. It starts with easier bodyweight exercises to ease into the weighted hip thrust in the beginner program.3 -

Those weights! Amazing. I'm up to 55#. Nice to have something to aspire to.6 -
Love everything.
My hip thrust weight is a measly 20lbs at the moment. Got to get myself some weights!1 -
Where to start. The first bodybuilding show. Running a marathon. At 50 years of age, the vanity is about gone but I do feel good when i take my shirt off on the beach.14

I'll just put this here, as I'm baffled by this.
Rumours are crazy. I was told last night that several people have asked a close work colleague of mine if I had stopped drinking!! So in order to lose weight it only takes the ommitance of alcohol, do they assume all I do in drink in my spare time??? WTH?? Weirdly as really I hardly drink at all, maybe a glass of wine or 2 at a nice restaurant, like once a month or more!! Plus they said she must have stopped drinking beer!! I'm almost positive that nobody from work has ever seen me drink a beer and I've worked here for over 25 years!!! .... Rumours are crazy and I can only imagine what else is being said!!! I am truly baffled!!22 -

I've been asked if I have cancer and also if I had a serious illness... some people just have too much imagination. I wouldn't take it seriously.

No one asked me personally if I was sick, but a couple of concerned friends asked him.

Oh yes, acquaintances and people at my different singing jobs have asked if I have cancer, or if I contracted HIV. Never me directly but I've been told by those asked. It boggles my mind.11 -
Nobody told me that I would have a new "fat weight" after losing and gaining the same 6 pounds for 3 months straight. Yes, I realize that I am down 25 pounds since the end of November, but it keeps trying to ease back to 150! I won't let it, and I knock it back down when it gets close, but then I get lazy about watching what I'm eating again when someone invites me for a BBQ, or eating out because that means I'm not the one that has to cook! And to top it off, it's too hot for me to go outside and run without dying! All y'all that get out there and still run; you are impressive! Way to go!! I'm a whimp when it comes to drastic temperatures. So now, my new "fat weight" is 147, and I get furious with myself when I see 149! I was down to 142.4 a couple of times, but then it goes right back up. I really need to get out of these stupid 140's that I seem to have myself trapped in.21

Men who complain of women not replying to them when it comes to online dating (OLD) do so because they are messaging the same top whatever-percentage of conventionally hot young women in their early 20s on OLD sites (whether real women or other men posing as women) that a majority of the men on any one particular OLD site are messaging as well. Of course the average man is not going to get a response. Rudder's Dataclysm pointed this out long ago.
Instead of accepting this fact, many men become bitter and bemoan it's all due to BDR (Bi#!hes, they don't reply) and proceed to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Not that fact they were/are swinging for the fences and missing, is all.
[/quote]
I totally agree with this. Sometimes we can get caught up in looking for a "type" and chasing after that "type" while completely ignoring everyone else. I met my current guy on a dating site which said we were 95% compatible. After going through his profile I was sure he wasn't my "type" and he was completely sure I wasn't his. But he messaged me anyway. We got to talking. Not in a potential romantic interest way but as regular people who might get a good friendship out of this. Fast forward 2 yrs later and we're in love and dating. Guess we were each other's types after all lol. Yup so the OP could be swinging for the fences and missing the perfectly nice women who are occupying the field even if they aren't his type

The reply about the handicap stall is awesome!
I used to have a reoccurring claustrophobic nightmare about being stuck in a tiny bathroom stall! (I know: the mind works in strange and mysterious ways5 -
Even though I weigh less my husband won't want me to sit on his lap any more because now I have a boney butt.21

It's not even about missing them. They are not even/rarely/only as an after thought ever looking at in the first place.

Your pets will lose weight. We don't feed many scraps because it's not good for them...But they have never liked veggies or fruits, only processed stuff. So now they get NO scraps! Plus, when you are more active you interact with them more!!15

Mine like peas, carrots, spinach, pretty much any veggie I eat - they eat. They really like snap peas though.3 -

Mine pups love veggies! Except spinach. Spinach is the only food they won't pick up when I drop. But they have gotten into fights over the last cucumber stem8 -
I really can't believe that a small blip up on the scale can feel so awful and uncomfortable, 24/7.
I'm up 3 lbs for the last month or so, and it feels like 50. And it's not felt right or normal the entire time. Old me cd just go up and up and have it not really register; it seemed to make no difference in how I felt. Now, at 5' and going from 109 to 112, I feel like I am carrying an anchor around and that someone took a bicycle tire pump to my belly. I am aware of it all the time.
I always heard people around my height say things like "A little bit of weight makes such a huge difference," and now I really get it.24 -
Same here. It seems like the only activity my friends did was "lets get food".8 -

Whoa! That's eye-opening.0 -
I love this thread!!! Here are mine (I've lost almost 40 pounds).
I'm cold all the time.
I lost a LOT of hair, despite eating healthier.
When I don't get out for a run, I really really regret it. I used to regret running lol.
Laying on my side in bed hurts my knees cause they poke each other.
Crossing my legs is comfy now!
Weight loss really slows down after the first 20-25 pounds.
No more aches and pains just from existing.
People you don't see often might not recognize you! A good friend of mine hadn't seen me in 6ish months and walked by me like she didn't know me!
Logging food becomes a must, not a chore.
Some people will be jealous and will refuse to compliment your good work. They will ignore it and be bitter.21
