This. Fun story. I dropped from a 20 to a 16 in April. Yesterday I neededto buy work pants and I grabbed the 16s because that's what fit last time and 14s as a "lol no but why not try". Little did I realize, I've been making progress since April and now fit in 12s. I was floored. I could not believe it.
Even if you wear the same size, I bet you're making different fashion choices. Dresses or outfits with belts that show a trimmer waistline, just as one example. I found that some styles that didn't work on "larger" me looked nice when I was less poofy!7 -

Still, many long moons ago fat I and a fat coworker happened to be scheduled for sequential job interviews at another company, I'll call it "F". Afterward, the other guy told me that he overheard a manager at "F" saying, "I don't want to hire another fat layout designer". Well, time passes and situations change. I start working as a contractor for "F" tomorrow.
So, how was the first day?
This particular office of "F" is a remote office with about 10 people in it. The building has a fitness center for tenants. The employer has free coffee and electronic standing desks for all. I have a 7th floor view of US-75 looking north into Plano, TX. The work is easy. Layout design is technical support role for engineering design of computer chips. This particular technology is 20 years old and I can do it in my sleep.13 -

Reading all the bra stuff a few pages back reminds me. I work near the local Brooks Brothers store. I already intended to go after work to check and see if it was time to move down into the Milano fit, but now I must add to this trip the purchase of some Regular sized neckties. The XL size of tie looks like a clown getup on me now.17

I never thought about ties being bigger. Interesting.
I remember going to Torrid with my step-daughter and learning that there were special earrings with longer posts. Regular posts wouldn't be long enough to fit through thicker ears.12 -

I've never been able to wear post earrings because my lobes are too fleshy. Wouldn't matter how much weight I lose, my earlobe are what they are. I wear hoops. Never knew about longer posts being an option though. Might be worth looking into - thanks!3 -

A new one - portion sizes for food at my favourite restaurant are MASSIVE now. I used to eat it all and want more. Now I eat about half and I am done. It's crazy how quickly things change. I actually asked for half portion of my main course last time because I don't eat it all if I take it home anyway.14

Lunges Lunges Lunges
I had no butt when I was overweight and even less now. But what I do have is much perkier (and therefore looks much more shapely) because I have strengthened those muscles back there. That and certain yoga poses can help. But try to do private classes (don't do them at home) because you may be doing the poses wrong and seriously do some long term damage. Private courses give you great one on one attention.
I had no but before and nothing after. Lunges are good, squats are good, but what helped me the most has been weighted hip thrusters!
That just sounds dangerous!!
nah they're pretty awesome. You can do them laying on the floor too.

While he wants me to do what will make me happy (and he is starting to track food also) he actually told me last night that if this starts to take over my life he won't deal with that.
Mind you, I have been on this journey now for 2 months - i have never pushed working out or healthy food on him. If he wants to go out to eat, we go, and i just order something healthier instead of a burger. Unfortunately, my ideal body type is not what he would like me to look like. I want a lean body with muscle definition (not bulky), but he says any muscle showing on a girl is gross. I'm hoping that once I start slimming out and he sees how much happier I am he will realize this is a GOOD thing and not something to "take over my life" but just be a part of my life.
Also, i am SO sick and tired of explaining to people that i will not be GAINING muscle or looking like a man with the amount of cals i eat. Just because I lift does not mean i will be bulky and veiny. So frustrating.
Curious to find out what happened with this man!8 -

Nope on the Milano fit, Yep on the ties. I got 4.9 -
How isolating this journey can be at times. It's probably been said before but I realized it today. My friends and I used to go out a lot and eat and catch up. Huge meals, appetizers, drinks, main course and dessert with a lot of laughter and chatting and fun.
The last few times we've gone, however, I seem to be the damper in the fun with my fish and veggies or my salad with dressing on the side.
Yes I know I can have a cheat meal and eat to maintenance or a bit over, but really, the frequency of these get togethers in the past would've overwhelmed any deficit I managed to scrape together. I can't have three cheat meals in one week after all, at least not easily.
So now, I'm invited less. I found out today that the group plans to go out tonight to a new restaurant that just opened. I'm free tonight but they didn't ask. I found out third hand from one of the spouses.
So yeah, it's tough. Might be time for me to find friends willing to go on a walk or something.67 -

I'm sorry to hear that. This sucks. I mean, I'm super happy that you're sticking to your lifestyle and obviously enjoying the benefits! But the actions of your friends not being willing to enjoy your company simply because your eating habits are different...sucks. It just does. I hope you can prove them wrong that salads are AWESOME and the company of you as their friend should ALWAYS override how your food choices make them feel. Always. And also, may you find some walking buddies, whether new friends or old friends trying out something new.24 -

I know exactly how you feel. It can be super isolating. I too am trying to find people who want to do some sort of walk/hike/swim/team sport active time. I will see how it goes. Good luck to you!

How vulnerable my elbows would become. I have constantly sore elbows from the bony protrusions brushing against armrests and things. I'm absolutely paranoid of hitting my funny bone now. I've haven't experienced that horrible pain in a decade or so and am not looking forward to it.6

The majority of my friendships before my transformation sprung from my (high stress) profession. As I stopped going as often to happy hour and restaurant outings to "blow off steam, " and became more careful in my choices when I did partake, those friendships faded. I am still friendly with those folks, but we are acquaintances now rather than friends.
My fitness routines are almost exclusively BJJ/MMA related and now the majority of my friendships are too. These friends are much more into physically active activities for social outings, and more understanding and supportive of choices involving food or drink.
My advice would be to look into cultivating friendships regarding whatever your fitness routine is. Running, biking, combat sports, etc. communities are full of like-minded people that will be supportive in your lifestyle changes.14 -
You're spouse did not know your weight ?
Alol
Nope. He loves me for me. He loved me 165 lbs ago and he loves me at less than half of that. There was this thing in our wedding vows about being together "for better or for worse" and "in sickness and in health." The "in health" part means I'll be around much longer for our family.33 -

This is so true. I swim, which is generally a solo sport. But to keep me socializing with others I do Aqua Zumba and Water Aerobics. Now all of my friends are 70 year old women. I'm 28 and I love it. None of them party and we all truly care about each other. While I am still friends with my crew from before, I think they are put off by my new found confidence. I'm not the same person and they are just not used to it. I don't think it has anything to do with the way I eat or exercise...more about the emotional change.30 -

It wasn't until I read this comment that I realised how isolated my journey has started to become over time. I barely talk to my friends anymore. We used to hangout all the time, used to talk all the time, now we don't. I don't see them and they don't see me. At all. I lost weight and changed my lifestyle and we grew apart because I no longer mimicked their eating habits - which was basically McDonald's every time we went out or takeaways. I still eat McDonald's, but it's once a week instead of 4-5 times a week.
But I've realised that I don't need people like that in my life. You don't deserve to have people that exclude you purely because you've changed your eating habits. You're doing this for you, you're doing this to better yourself and they need to understand that.25 -

That since I realized how much happier I am now--being able to move without my thighs chafing, walking up stairs without knee pain, etc--I literally live in fear of being fat again.28

I agree, this sucks. I am lucky to have great family and friends. My best friends have encouraged me completely along the way. When I was more strict with my diet than I am right now, they totally understood. I would drink less, eat less, but still have a blast and they were happy to have me around. They understood when I would skip happy hour to work out on a Thursday night. They are not as active with daily workouts as I am, but I can usually convince one of them to do some crazy activity with me like mud runs, or other 5Ks.
However, I have made other friends through the gym and workout classes that I go to that I spend time with too. I hope you find a good group to hang out with or get your group to understand that healthy options are not always bad.10 -

When you tell your fiancé that you lost four more pounds and your stomach is flater then it was less then a week ago and he tells to stop sucking in my tummy and Im not. I proved it to him. loss 33 pounds on my 4'11 height looked terrible and I felt it every day. Riding my bike for 2 hours hurts because the natural cushion is fading away and toning up. Inspired my mother to join in and shes down 10 pounds. I cant stand soda loaded with sugar anymore and anything loaded with salt. Then trips to the bathroom is a work out in its self. Can breath much better, able to jog a mile with asthma troubles. There with always be haters and downers. Im the hardest person on myself. Cant wait to say Ive lost 50 pounds which is my first goal not my final goal. Going to the dr as soon as I lose all the weight and getting the words obese of my records. Tell everyone that ask me what are you doing you look great, Ineed help with a couple pounds I tell the mfp. Laying in bed next to my man (hes naturally skinny like eats a weeks worth of calories and drops 5 pounds) ribs hurt rubbing togther.15
