Holy cow, that's the fastest pace I've run in a LONG time! It was 72 degrees and it didn't feel humid at all, it felt great! I'm hoping this bodes well for the fall when the cool weather returns. I feel like I've been getting slower and slower as the months go on. Well, since I've started training for half marathon distance back in March.
Congrats! Well done!0 -
Day 71 done - overslept this morning and settled on a meager 3 miles. 79 Days left in my Canada 150 Challenge... Find it hard to believe a friend of mine has done this for 10 years without missing a day. It is sometimes hard to fit in a mile or two.4

I'm currently doing a step challenge on Garmin Connect with a bunch of other people (most from MFP). I am currently in the lead with just over 67k (the challenge started on Monday), but one fellow is closing in behind me with 57k. I blame the fact that yesterday I only got 16k because I was so tired and went to bed early. I will definitely make up for it on Saturday when I try for my first all-running 13.1.
Yes, I am a step counting maniac. I try to get at least 15k per day but usually get over 20k. And yet, I have gained four pounds. Go figure.5 -
@jessicamcB thank you so much, she really is a great kid, no thanks to me, no idea where she gets it from ha ha
@orphia oh yeah girl I got a 235 it's so pretty! I got home last night was doing this and that then walked into the kitchen and the box was on the table. I sent Skip a text "OMG you didn't tell me my GARMIN WAS HERE!!!!". She replied "you need to get out more" ha ha
@mobycarp congrats on winning the new shoes woohoo!
@ddmom0811 how are your new shoes?
Skip said she needs new shoes and asked if we could go to Fleet Feet this weekend, well duh you betcha momma needs some new shoes too.
@respectthekitty you are killing them in the step challenge. We did one last summer and they wanted us to have teams, everyone wanted to be on my team. ha ha We start again the end of August.
@stoshew71 hang in there it will pass.

@JessicaMcB @RespectTheKitty sorry I'm late to this discussion but my doctor had me try Paxil because I told him my brain felt go go go all the time. The biggest side effect was craving carbs and all the reviews mentioned that. It was so true. I would get off work and easily eat 1000 calories of not so good carbs and my weight showed it. I cut it cold turkey since it was a low enough dose and it took awhile for the side effects to go away (don't be a bad patient like me and not consult your dr first). There had to be other options on the market better fit for me. He sent me to a psychologist and turned out I had really bad ADD Inattentive type so that explains why Paxil made me worse and more jittery. I don't really have any good advice except that I can relate to the craving side effect.
In other news, I still haven't ran in the past month due to maybe burnout/heat but I enjoy all of your company so I keep checking in.
I went shoe shopping last night and tried on the Nike Pegasus 34's and fell in love for everyday shoes. I couldn't justify the price so I bought the 33's after reading reviews and stocked up on two pairs that equaled one pair of the 34's tip from my nightmare of online shopping with (if it doesn't sensor it) dickssportinggoods last night... if you want to cancel an order, you only have 30 minutes. My mail person is going to think I went shoe crazy with all the shoes showing up to my mailbox. Oops. Just a little indecisive1 -

Are you in Australia or somewhere on that side of the world and that's why it's already the 28th by you, or is that a typo? Lol. Reading this had me questioning my sanity for a second regarding what the date by me was
And congrats on the awesome pace!
ETA: I found it! You have no 7/ 8! Lol0 -
@RespectTheKitty way to go keeping the lead on that Step Challenge. You'll recover easily after some rest
@RunnersLament Just the fact that you had the guts to sign yourself up for a 150 Challenge is great and you haven't quit. Keep going strong1 -
-
@girlinahat that is one of the reasons I kept putting off buying one, but it's lighter than my 15 and not a bulky. I added a quarter to the picture for some size comparison. I don't have a very big wrist. I like being able to glance down to see it while running instead of really looking like I had to before.

July Total: 105.8/150
872.6 miles/2,017 miles - goal for the year
After Monday night's suckfest, Tuesday's 7 miles w/8x 300m hill repeats was SOOOOOO much better! I felt energetic, not sick, and I didn't fall
Yesterday was just a slow 4 mile recovery run. I'm trying to make sure I take it really easy on all my recovery miles since, because of last week's rearranged schedule, I have an 8 day running streak before my next rest day, and increasing mileage.
Might not be super smart today though, lol. I need 10 miles, which I will split between lunch and after work, but then my fave Zumba teacher is covering a 7:30pm class tonight, and I don't think I can resist going! And her classes are definitely high intensity! Oh well. I definitely won't be speeding on the runs today, lol.3 -

I was too tired to update last night, so here is my update for yesterday. I went to the park to run. I was a little nervous about running the loop near my house after my encounter with the snake the day before. I was pretty tired and only got in 2.5 miles. It was still really hot and after working all day and then coming home and canning several jars of pickles I was beat. Besides it was after 8:30 before I was able to run so I didn't have a ton of light left.
I'm in really good shape to reach my goal this month. I'm running a 5K on Saturday so I really only need one more short run to get there. I'm not sure how this 5K will be. It seems a little "thrown together" to me. It won't be chip timed and so far I have just given them my name and paid my entry fee. There hasn't been much advertising about it so I'm kind of worried that there won't be many runners. I guess I will see how it goes. I am hoping to get under 30 minutes, but with the heat lately I'm not sure I will be able to. The race is at 9 am and it is usually already hot by then.
I have been reading all the talk about running watches. I have been considering getting one. Right now I have a Fitbit One. There are lots of things I really like about it. The number one thing I like is that I wear it clipped to my bra and not on my wrist. But it really is only good for counting steps. I have used the Fitbit app to track my runs and it works ok, but as I have reached my weight goal I have noticed that my Fitbit underestimates my calorie burns and so I'm not sure how accurate it is for tracking my runs. I recently started using Strava app and I like it pretty well. But it would be nice to have something that I could easily look at while running to see what my pace is. As it is now I just get a verbal message every .5 miles and sometimes I don't hear it when there is traffic or wind. And I do not have anything to track HR. I don't generally wear a lot of jewelry and I don't really like wearing something on my wrist. Are there any running watches that are not huge? I really just want something basic that could tell me my pace, distance and hr while I am running. @skippygirlsmom I really like how yours looks, but I don't know if I could wear a watch that was wider than my wrist.
@sliedur Congrats on finishing C25K!

I just got the Garmin 235 running watch a few months ago. So far it's great. I had a Fitbit Charge HR. It was great while it lasted, although the battery life was pretty horrible. I had to charge it every other day even though it was supposed to last about 5. I turned off auto updating, but after a few months it still would only last two days. It bit the dust after I got caught in a rainstorm. So I wanted something waterproof (not just resistant) and something with better battery life. Since I mostly run for exercise I figured a running watch was the way to go and I'd heard excellent things about Garmin. The price tag was high, but hopefully it lasts much longer than a Fitbit, which seems to have about a 1 year lifespan.2 -

@MobyCarp awesome luck on the shoes!!! Hope they work well for you.
@BettyM1017 I have been looking at the Vivoactive HR or the forerunner 235. The Vivoactive has a little more of the "smart watch" features that I would like.
@Sliedur Great job on the C25K finish!!
And Price...that is why I am asking about the watches is because I guess I need a little "self Justification" in order to spend the money.
@RespectTheKitty I hated Topomax. Topamax=dopamax. I felt spacey, clumsy and forgetful all the time. I didn't lose any weight...I guess I just forgot about tracking. Not sure. I hope it works much better for you!!!
@skippygirlsmom - I love the look of the 235. I have much bigger wrists, thanks to my very German dad. (yours look itty bitty)
@zdyb23456 - thanks for the review. I am leaning towards the FR235, but still thinking of the vivoactive HR also.
No run yesterday. I had two dr appts. So the 1st one told me I really don't have Plantar fasciitis as the last dr said. I have a small bone spur and losing the fat pad on my heel. OK. She says that she is going to help fix it. AWESOME! I am good with that.
So I went for a nice 6 mile bike ride that included the mother of all hills. LOL. About 3/4th of the way up, it was easier to just get off and walk the rest of the hill. I found a runner in my neighborhood that wants someone to run with so I am meeting her at 530 am tomorrow morning. I am excited.6 -

@girlinahat I thought it was too big too when I ordered mine. I have the 620 it's of similar size. I love it. I don't wear it all the time, just for running/cycling. If you get a chance to have a look at one, I think you'll like it.
@garygse that's crazy big1
