Zoo today.

I don't feel very grateful today. Lots of repairs needed for the house, still making car payments, car #2 is dying, can't afford another one... ugh. Oh, and I'm up 2 pounds.

BUT!

My wonderful, amazing, spectacular husband said "If we live in a cardboard box by the side of the road, I will still love you." I said "but who will take care of our kitties??!" and he said "The kitties will catch mice and we will have roasted mice for dinner."



So. I still have something (someONE) to be grateful for.

Looks like it's just the two of us! How was the visit to college with your daughter? Have you already dropped her off for the year? What year is she -- freshman?

1) errands on a weekday - wow! Sure beats Saturday's hectic crowds!
2) the sweet anticipation of seeing my college son for a few days between summer internship and start of classes
3) fresh peach cut up into vanilla low fat yogurt -- I'm seeing a fruit theme running through my entries!
4) a husband who will tell me when I'm starting to get worked up about something that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things
5) tickled by the surprised look on the Home Depot worker when I asked for help picking a 'flapper' -- a toilet tank part. Darned if I know what it is but he seemed impressed that I knew enough to call it by name. (Yeah, I checked - my husband sent me on the mission for a new one!)
6) the discovery of Lindy's Italian ice (find it in your grocer's freezer) -- OMG -- wonderfully refreshing with only 60 calories - I may have found something that ALMOST substitutes for ice cream....well, maybe sometimes....

Keenan is starting his senior year at a college in Maine, Bates, it is where I studied too so that's special.

I actually like having the boys gone. Our youngest didn't go to college but is in an apartment and working. It's pretty amazing how much extra time I've found!

There is also the added plus of knowing that the food I bought will be there when I go looking for it. I've had ice cream in the freezer for two weeks; in the past it would have disappeared in three days!

I live in western NY. It's a glorious summer day here.

❤️ the ability to get up and go whenever I want
❤️ unexpected memories of old friends
❤️ all the variations of greens in nature this time of year
❤️ discovering a nearby farm where I can pick my own peaches!
❤️ cold, sweet watermelon that someone else cut up!
