What nobody tells you about losing weight

That you'll be running to the bathroom. A lot. And that it takes a WHILE for results to be noticeable when you're coming down from a high weight, so you need to be patient.13

I love being able to wear normal sizes, but I'm now so overwhelmed with all of the clothing and style options, that I have no idea how to dress myself.
I cannot find a comfortable sleeping position. Or standing position. There is hardly any padding left, I guess lol.
@ekd23 I had to come up with a mattress pad and for the oak kitchen chairs. After going keto has resolved most of my joint and muscle pain my net comfort level has improved in my case but I do not just plop down hard anymore. I had both hips replaced Aug 1991 so and without all the fat I get reminded of that fact on sitting for very long.5 -

I've found that I've become more vain, I constantly check out my reflection and ask my husband "does this look okay" with every outfit I put on. When I was at my starting weight, I used clothes to cover up my body so that no one would look at it, now I want them to show off my body. I feel like a bad person, being so vain.
I have to try everything on every time I buy new clothes. I used to be able to just look at something and know if it would fit, now I have no idea what size I will be on any given day.
No one tells you how to respond to the comment "Wow, you've lost weight!", I find that I usually say something stupid like "Yeah.... I have, thanks for noticing". (If anyone has a recommendation on what to say to that comment, please let me know )
I always smile, say thank you and say it's something I'm really proud of. I don't know if it's a French thing, but people are really nice about it and encouraging. They don't ask questions, they just remark that they noticed it, or that I am "beautiful" and I say thank you because it makes me happy.22 -
The bone thing has been mentioned before but I notice it all the time now! My ribs, hips, elbows, tailbone, wrists, and shoulder blades hurt. Even if I use a mattress topper, am sitting on a super squishy couch, or use two yoga mats instead of one. The weird thing is that I still have a lot of fat, but I guess losing those 95 pounds made a big difference. I might have to start wearing a suit of bubble wrap.18

By the way, I stay positive despite not getting compliments on my weight because I remember that people didn't comment when I was gaining weight, so I should respect that they wouldn't comment if I'm losing weight. I'd rather people comment on my activities than my body at this point.41

Indeed, and we certainly also tell/fool ourselves into believing other people won't notice our weight gain while we're on the way up because we've worn slimming colours, stripes, etc. Is it so unlikely that we create enough ambiguity in people's minds about how we look that they might not notice until the quantity of loss is beyond a certain threshold?18

I noticed this a while ago. Its only gotten more noticeable as I've lost more. I've sort of learned how to sit and lay more comfortably though. It really reminds me that we were never met to be so inactive.12 -
I can't eat as much as I used to (totally not even complaining there) I used to eat pasta like it was going out of style.. now I can barely finish a portion, I also make it way less often than I used to and turn to lean meats/ veggies for meal prep.14

There are places that I wish I could inject fat into and I can only hope and pray I don't lose any more weight from.21

Probably duplicates of someone (since there are 205 pages of responses), but nobody ever told me:
-That once I'd dropped 35 pounds I would start to agree with my coworkers who insisted it was cold in our office
-That, contrary to popular belief, my bust would not shrink when I lost weight (but it increased a cup size for every 10 pounds I gained back - but that's a different story)
-How competitive I'd get with myself to reach that next goal
-How good it felt to shop for US size 10 shorts, considering I graduated high school in clothes from Lane Bryant (approx. US size 16)
-That I would get less male attention after dropping the weight than I did when I was heavier (depending on your perspective and/or where that attention was coming from, this could actually be a positive thing)8 -
My hip bones hurt!!! Lol
I'm a side sleeper and it's starting to kill me.7 -

I can't sleep on my stomach (or what's left of it) anymore. It helps to keep an extra pillow in the bed to provide some extra support when needed.4 -
I've started eyeing up/checking out other people . . . . well, their bicycles and running shoes, anyway.
I found this revelation ever so slightly disturbing.23 -

I have a minimum of 5 pillows in my bed at all times now. I love my "new" hip bones, but I also hate them. And what is it with the stomach thing? I realized recently that I can't do it either! I'm so upset because it was incredibly comfortable.6 -

This was me exactly! "I don't eat very much - I must just be eating the wrong things!" Uh-huh. Until I started weighing my portions and realised how much I was really eating...!
Before I knew about Cico I thought I barely ate anything. 3-4 double decker oatmeal pies and 6-12 cans of mountain dew might not seem like a lot, but omg the calories to say nothing of the lack of nutrition! Funny to think that was 8/9 years ago. I've come a long way from playing video games and eating junk food to being a mommy of two, making and eating actual food.23 -
Last night I was laying on the hardwood floor on my side last night, playing with the puppy and realized it didn't hurt my back as much as it used to. I'm guessing my spine was curving less sideways because my hip/thigh is smaller, therefore my spine stayed in better alignment. I still had shoulder, rib and hip pressure points, but I've always had those whether I was 240 or 130.11

How good it feels when someone you haven't seen for a year, stops dead in there tracks and says 'OMG you've lost so much weight'.
and who new that sitting down could be so uncomfortable when you have no fat on your A**e23 -

At the same time you no longer dread chairs with arms.24 -

Those you see daily don't say as much, or they'll say "you seem to be losing weight- are you?". Those that you only see every few weeks just gush over how much you've lost and how thin you've become. It gets tiring and nice once they stop.
I really wish someone would notice my weight loss. No one says anything to me and I know they are probably trying to be polite, but some recognition that my hard work is actually visible would be nice. It makes me think I still look the same.
I lost 50 pounds. I went from a US 10 to a US 0 or 00. I can count on one hand the number of people who have commented. I don't think it's out of jealousy for most; I think it comes down to the fact that I live in a very reserved area. The very few people who commented were all from other parts of the country or world where people are less reserved. It used to bother me, but I've decided that comments actually make me uncomfortable, so I prefer that no one mention it!
Could a similar dynamic be happening where you live?

When eating out with co-workers they usually wait until I order and then they order
And usually they order something similar, side salad instead of fries30 -

It's because you don't have a belly to support your back anymore. If I lay on my stomach my back starts to hurt from the flexing. Having a pillow gives me the support for my back until I roll off it.6 -
That you would become surprised remembering your old eating habits. They started selling these big two packs of chocolate and hazelnut wafers at Costco. I was like whoa I love those things! I used to eat the whole bag in one go. I felt like I was thinking about a different person. Like I can't even imagine eating a whole bag of cookies in one day, which used to be my standard serving size.31

I think I've posted this before, but if you had a lot to lose to start, hitting road blocks/feeling done after you've lost a lot, even if you haven't hit your end goal.
I've lost 70 lbs and recently have just been going up and down +/- 5 lbs. This is good because I'm not putting weight back on, but frustrating with about 30 left that I want to lose!16 -
@becca_rup23 I know the feeling. I dropped 50 pounds and have maintained at 200 +/-15 pounds for 2.5 years. I am now ready to go for the last 30 pounds having recovered my general health over the past two years. Stopping 40 years of yo-yoing weight is one thing I am very proud about this time around.
Best of continued success.27 -
Like some others have pointed out, the damn head games. I lost a good chunk of weight and I still see self sometimes as I was 70 pounds ago. Being able to jog for 30+ mins again is amazing. Being surprised how my cloths fit, going down a smaller size and using my old shirts as a nighty. I still have 90 pounds to go and I'm excited for what I will look like20

I had an issue with that until I realized my old spring mattress was an issue. Got a new memory foam and still stomach sleep after 70 lbs loss down to 159.10 -

I completely relate to this. I'm not even halfway to goal, but six months in and I just got stuck. Like it gets so hard to continue putting in the effort to go all the way after awhile. I've been mostly on track this month after a few months off and am hoping I can get another six month run out of it. If not, at least I'm healthier now than I was 60 pounds ago.18 -
I am no longer traumatized by having blood drawn... the nurse hits my vein the first try now instead of having to try 2-3 per arm because the buggers kept on slipping further into the later of fat...
I might even consider signing up for blood donations now (if I even qualify since I lived in the US for 4 years...)11 -
That any time you get an upset stomach or vertigo (which is something I've occasionally suffered from since I had a TBI about 2 years ago), people will tell you it's because you're not eating enough. That's when I like to whip out my MFP food diary, so I can show them all the times I over eat my daily calorie allotment. LOL.14
