I swam 80 laps today, the most I've ever swum. I usually just stop at 40 or a mile. I could have kept going, but they threw me out of the pool to close up.
New Pool Dude today was literally going up and back by the time I was barely half-way down one length. I tried for all I was worth to catch up, and there was just no way. I realized a bit later he was using fins and paddle things on his hands. I'm still proud of beating all the people old enough to be my grandparents.28 -

Oh, la. I'm back. Crazy busy few months on the family side. Sporadic logging... now up 10 lbs from where I was a year ago. The NSV... I know I can use this wonderful tool and that weight will drop right off. Nice to be back here. This is a wonderfully motivating thread.32

I was told I look like "one of those body builder women" while doing my shoulder workout. Yes!!!! That's the point of why I'm lifting heavy.23

I am so happy that I been losing weight, I lost another 2 lbs, I love my swimming aerobics class I attend every morning 6 days a week have really helped me so much with the chronic pain I been suffering with for 3 1/2 years. I got this now! The best thing of all is I'm off all my 14 medications, God is my helper!33

I was snuggling with my 5 year old this morning right after he woke up, which I was taking advantage of because the older ones aren't into snuggling anymore. He wriggled his arm under me so he could hug me while we were laying in the bed. He says, "mommy, my hands are touching! Reach behind you and feel them!" Well, for one, I could easily reach behind me and feel them, but two, he had his hands completely clasped together! Not just finger tips touching. He was holding his own hands. And his arms weren't even tight around me! A FIVE year old! They have little arms, still! ❤️35

@NoraInMt Wow! Talk about a double whammy of motivation. Get hit by a ton of bricks on the realization of how far you've truly come. That there is someone out thier that is seeing you are a role model and inspiration.15 -
Our power went out during a storm and we lost all of our food. We had a last minute cookout to try to save as much as possible, and it was really tempting to eat extra large portions since it was just going to be thrown away if we didn't eat it, but I ate only what was appropriate and stayed under my calorie goal for the day.
Also, took a long long walk around the neighborhood during the time we usually would have spent watching a movie.25 -
I just tried on all my fall clothes from last year, which fit but quite a few were even a bit tight on me last year.
I'm swimming in them and a few shirts looked like I was a kid playing dress up in my mothers clothes. They looked like dresses!21 -
Posted a new profile pic on Facebook of me snuggling my youngest and wow the compliments have been pouring in! I haven't seen the scale moving much the past month but I guess stuff must be shifting around or something. Anyway, I'll take it!

My a bit too small pants I bought in June to last me through summer as I lose weight, are slightly loose. I could go down a size for a perfect fit.20

Yesterday, I taught my 6 yo son and my 2 nieces (6+7) how to ride their bikes without training wheels. That means I was running up and down my approximately 1/4 mile street shouting encouragements and occasionally picking bikes up out of a muddy ditch. It was a blast. I never could have done that carrying around an extra 100 pounds. It reminded me why I'm doing this in the first place. I'm never going to be happy with my body- I know that. But I'm so happy with what my body can do now. I keep making new fitness goals and weight loss is a by product- not the focus. My penultimate fitness goal is to teach my future great-grandchildren to ride their bikes.35

This one is probably mostly mental.
I've started to be more okay with the way my body looks. I still have a long way to go, but it no longer feels impossible to get there. I think this is more about accepting new me and saying goodbye to old me than my actual appearance.
I've stopped wanting to be pefect and I've started just wanting to be better and always continue to get better.
Realizing this has made me care more about my health than my appearance. Or maybe caring more about my health has made me realize this.25 -
I think this is an Almost Victory. I bought some new jeans yesterday that are one size smaller than I could fit into two months ago. Today I was wearing them and realized they are at least half a size too big. Ooops!25

The weather forecast was going to be perfect for my planned 100 mile bike ride today. Hardly any wind, not cold and overcast.
Sorted out my route, with lots of "escape" runs included in case I failed miserably. DH knew where to meet me and when, for refreshment stops.
Went to bed early as I planned to be away by 5am.
Then . . . it all went horribly, horribly wrong. Had the worst night's sleep (or rather a serious lack of it) ever. I don't think that I slept at all. So that completely stuffed all my plans. There was no way I could cycle 100 miles after that. I was so disappointed. Every time I make plans, something happens.
Spent the morning sorting and clearing out stuff, followed by a nice lunch. The weather was still good so decided to go for a quick bike ride, just to help with the disappointment of not doing my 100-miler. Planned on a couple of hours (so 20-26 miles).
I did 20 miles, then decided to go up my favourite hill (well, the going down bit is why I like it) to see if I could hit 50 mph. Another total failure - only managed 49.1 mph. I was so disappointed. To make up for this, I decided to circle round back to my other favourite hill to see if I could go down it at 45 mph (it's a shorter, less steep hill). Flew down the hill and had to slow down for a couple of motorists who clearly forgot that the hill is mine when I'm out on my bike. Looked at my bike computer at the bottom of the hill and found I'd hit 46.2 mph. A new record! Well, it brought a smile to my face anyway.
Got home a bit later than anticipated and found that I'd cycled . . . . 50 miles. Half the distance after all. I will get there. The plans are all made, just need to wait for the right day now, which has to be soon as my medication is going to be changed within the next few weeks and the nurse practitioner recommended not doing too much (like 100-mile bike rides) until I'm certain that I'm coping with the treatment okay.30 -

Today my grandmother said something about how much weight I had lost. She is never one to give compliments, so I knew this wasn't one but I will still take it as a win because that means people notice! Unfortunately, when I was hanging out with her and my mother today I got really bad vertigo (I suffered from a TBI a couple of years ago so this happens about once a month-it's the only remaining side effect so I'm cool with it!). My grandmother said that it must be because I'm not eating enough...even though she knows this still happens from time to time *eye roll* Fortunately, my mom stood up for me and said that the last time we hung out I ate a whole plate of food plus a small sliver of pie, and that she was proud of me for being healthy.
I don't think that people realize what a healthy weight is any more. I am 5'4 and I weigh 131-133 depending on the day. I'm just glad I have stronger self esteem to stand up to naysayers than I did before MFP, and that I have a mom who supports me.37 -
A few months ago I struggled to run 2 minutes. Today due to schedule issues I did a 4 mile bike,2 mile run, 2 leg sail in the morning and a 5k in the evening. At no point did I walk during either set of races. My fitbot is showing over 25k steps today.32

so after approximately 5 days of no exercise and appalling food choices (macdonalds, burger king, kfc, donner kebab and pizza in the past 3 days) I walk into the gym this morning and a lady asks me if I have lost weight because I 'look taller'
Needed that!!!28 -
I just can't get over how much stamina I have gained, both physically and mentally.
Yesterday, I worked on my library from 7 AM to around 8 PM: up and down a ladder and stairs carrying boxes of books, installing new shelving, etc. By the end of today it will be completely finished, with everything on shelves and organized -- two weeks before the start of the semester!
I also got proposals for a book chapter and a conference presentation out for consideration, have started my next writing project (this one is creative, which I've never done before), and have a general idea about my next scholarly piece. And my syllabi for all classes are about 90% complete.
Honestly, my only major concern about the start of classes is having clothes that fit. Everything is too big. Nice problem to have!30 -
Several milestones this weekend.
Friday I went out for a short ride (8 miles) and made it to 2000 miles for the year.
Saturday met my Pedal off the Pounds group for a Century ride. The weather was almost perfect. At 6 am it was low 60's so started wearing a long sleeve shirt. High for the day was 80. There was very little wind. The Raccoon River Valley trail is an rail trail so while some hills nothing with a steep grade. Made it to our lunch stop ahead of schedule at the 53 mile mark had a great lunch then headed back. We did more frequent stops on the way back and made great time. We averaged 13.5 mph. The hardest mile was once we got to the 100 mile mark and still was about a mile from the parking lot. We did the 100 can't we stop!!! ended up with 101.22 miles on the day. (we may have to embellish the story in years to come as we only had to battle through a nice day, not a horrible headwind, sleet, snow or dark of night)
Yesterday I went out for a recovery ride to a nearby park and saw several deer in the park, a doe and two fawns. Made it 12 miles which made it to 5000 miles since I started in May 2016.

Do you have someone that could do the century ride with you. I did my first on Saturday and having a group to do it with made all the difference. I do most of my biking on my own but doing this with a group that was focused on getting it done and not leaving anyone behind was great.6 -
