This might be the biggest accomplishment of my life:
I have learned how to not only maintain, but even lose weight, while having an occasional sweet treat (gelato, usually).
I didn't think this would EVER be possible for me. The idea that I could easily and without a second thought pass up most sweets…
…and also be able to say YES to one every now and then; fully enjoy it; and be content with what I ate…
…without "needing" more… without spiraling out into cravings and binge eating and self-loathing.
I literally feel like a different person. Like I turned into one of those "normal" people I always envied, who can enjoy life without having to choose between constant excess and eternal deprivation. It's a mind-blowing thing to experience.

Bought some new shorts. They were on sale. Cheap! Size XL.

They fit perfectly!

@takinitalloff Congratulations!! It's truly a beautiful thing to go grocery shopping and have no desire to wander thru the chips, cookies, bakery, frozen foods or sweetened cereal aisles. Fast food and food court visits are a relic from the past. I've posted of my attempts to enjoy breakfast out....lol
I found in my journey the healthier I ate and the more I moved, the less processed food I craved. Good for you for beating your cravings by doing this on your own time!! The longer you continue on this path the easier it gets!! All hail fruit, veggies, delicious protein and fresh clean water

I brought a drink bottle, a lock and a duffle bag in preparation for going to the gym. Maybe I'll go now!

Went to the gym for the second time in two days!

I don’t get sick as often since I lost weight, started eating better and taking care of myself.
When I do, even if it’s comparably yucky, it only knocks me down for two days, two and a half at worst.
I don’t freak out when it’s passing off and I suddenly feel compelled to eat eat eat. I know it’s just my body compensating and catching up on necessary calories. So I permit myself to eat eat eat til full. Even if it’s cookies, cheese, pretzels, crackers, whatever, it’s carbs and it’s like topping off an empty tank. Sometimes, when a tank is that empty, it’s running on crud and sludge anyway, right? Refill that tank!
I don’t have any problem getting back on track to start up workouts again.
I have sense enough to review what happened, figure out a possible connection, and take steps to keep it from happening again. Like swimmers ear plugs for probable swimmers sinusitis (thanks, Dr Google).
I now have enough sense to cancel all workouts, and tell the husband “you’re on dog duty”- and to call him out if he ignores the “I gotta go now” pleading expressions. Because I’m too run down and fuggy to get off the sofa and do it.I am smart enough that if I can’t do my full workouts this morning, I will tap out instead of forcing myself to “power through” and risk bottoming out again.
As my Dad used to crow every morning when we went to the office together, “It feels so good to feel good!” And it does. I appreciate weight loss, better overall health, and faster recoveries.
That’s the best NSV of all!

@springlering62 That is an awesome NSV!! Rest up and feel better fast.
My last check-in here was January. I really enjoyed catching up on everyone's successes the last few days!! Thank you for sharing.
I previously lost over 30 lbs. Since moving back to Louisiana a year ago, I've gained back about 12. The food here is - chef's kiss - and the culture is much slower/less active than in Florida. Plus working on my classes and dissertation have put a damper on my freedom and energy. My back pain has recently returned with a vengeance (history of scoliosis and a stenosis) so I'm going to see the MD tomorrow to make sure nothing structural has changed and weight loss/physical therapy will be enough.
My NSVs:
I am actively following my calorie goals now to lose the weight I gained. Saturday I went out to eat TexMex with the family and managed to stay within my goal while also eating a giant plate of DELICIOUS grilled vegetables. My husband wanted ice cream on the way home, and I was satisfied after a single bite.
Also I gain weight differently now. For most of my life I have been an extreme pear, gaining all my weight in my booty, hips, and legs. If I gained a few pounds, it was obvious as I couldn't button my pants even though my shirts would still fit fine. I have been lifting weights consistently for several years, so now the weight gets distributed evenly. Sometimes it's hard to notice that I'm gaining because my clothes seem to fit until they are suddenly just a bit too snug all over. I have clearly gained some muscle because my chest and shoulders are wider while my waist has stayed the same. It's odd to look in the mirror and see a schmexy hourglass while realizing that my favorite dress has gone from sleek to inappropriately clingy.I feel very different about my weight than I used to. I used to get upset and feel awful about my body when I gained weight. My strongest motivation was to look as good as possible. I turned 40 this year, and my motivation has evolved into being pain-free, disease-free, and able to continue the high level of activity I enjoy, especially when I travel. I walk around without makeup all the time nowadays, something I wouldn't have done at all five years ago. I let people take and post "unflattering" pictures of me because I realize there will come a time when those pictures are all one of us will have left of the other. I also realize that literally NO ONE ELSE CARES what I look like, not even my husband. My loved ones just want me to be happy and healthy, the same way I feel about them.
I am looking forward to losing the weight I gained for the reduced back pain and so I don't have to buy a full wardrobe of new clothes. Ain't nobody got time fo dat!

So I've lost 47 pounds since October of 2024, 40 of those since January. I had a range of clothing sizes in my closet, so through the spring I just limped along with the smaller clothes I already had, or dresses that fit even given a big weight range. I purchased a pair of Levi's from Walmart last month in a size 10.
But then I took my teen girls shopping at Plato's Closet (higher end resale shop in a nearby college town) a few days ago. And a pair of Banana Republic jeans in size 7/8, waist 29", fit me. You better believe I bought them!!!!

Here's my list over the last seven weeks or so. In that time I finished a cut and maintained for about 5 weeks. Today is day one of my second cut!
I'm starting to recognize my side profile again 4/28
My bath towel fit around me, not perfectly comfortably but without major risk of scandal 5/2
I can feel more of a "shelf" made by the top of my hip. It's helpful to carry things at work! 5/8
Lots of compliments on my hair. I figure people might be noticing something is different but misattributing it or being polite. 5/13
Another person noticed I'd lost weight and paid me a very kind compliment. 5/13
I did some drop jumps and didn't even think about my knees. Also I feel light on my feet in the agility ladder. I have a LONG history of chronic knee pain so this was a nice one! 5/22
I decided to have a day during my maintenance period to slightly overeat while my appetite returned to normal. I indulged as much as I wanted and was probably no more than 100Cal over maintenance 5/22
I wore a nice T-shirt that I'd grown out of a couple years ago. 5/23
I trotted up the stairs and felt light. 5/23
The stairs and floors in general don't creak as much. May 2025
I tucked in a bath towel and was fully covered, hands free, while walking from bathroom to bedroom. 5/26
I think I'm seeing some recomp during this maintenance period? One of my skirts is falling off more. 6/6
Then: Had to take in my skirt today because it's no longer usable. I couldn't walk more than a few steps without it falling off. I've been at maintenance for 4 weeks. 6/9
My current NSV is that I extended my maintenance period from 4 weeks to 5.5 because I got sick and didn't want to eat at a deficit while recovering from illness. The NSV being that I'm taming my impatience and prioritizing health. I also ate without tracking for a week or two and still maintained weight!
Sorry for the novel, I tend to save NSVs and post them together but I went a bit long this time.

@four_bumblebees What a great list of NSV's! Thanks for inspiring me to get after it again today. I enjoyed reading all your successes. I kept my own dated list of NSV's for a while and now I'm thinking it might be time to add a few more! I, too, remember the day I realized that my bath towel fit around me… what a great feeling.

Thanks! I love having the list to look back on because I already forget some of the difficulties and inconveniences of being at my heaviest.

I had a recent visit to the Dr's just for a checkup. My blood pressure was absolutely normal, it has been at least 4 years since it was in the normal range. It had been reading a little high for quite some time.
And when my blood test results came back, my cholesterol is down also. Again, that was trending at the higher end of where it should be.
So very pleased with these results.
