Judge and jury...first impressions

My first impression was to feel bad for the pan handler, wonder about his situation, and I assumed the lady was probably a really good person, maybe wealthy based on her fancy outfit. First impressions.
There was this guy standing outside the grocery store. I go to a few different grocery stores. I assumed he was homeless because of the way he looked. I figured because I was about to buy myself some groceries, I would throw some things in my cart for him. So I asked him if he was hungry. He said, "No. I'm just waiting for my wife." And here she comes walking up. And there they go into the store together. And I'm like, "Oops. Dumb me." I thought that was a hungry homeless guy, because of the way he looked.
The old waiting for the wife trick... classic.2 -

Here, for example, I've thought on occasions "wow this person is really full of themself, this person is really confident, this person is hilarious !" But really, behind the scenes of the forum stage they're all of this but all equally as broken too and I actually find that more beautiful because it's real.
I've also been told I make terrible first impressions. My ex told me I come across cold, snarky and stuck up. Once he got to know me though he...just kidding, I killed him.
So where did you bury the body? I'm asking, not because I am the police that hacked this guys account to get information on a murder, but because I am interested in fellow members of MyFitnessPal.2 -

Have there been times when you were judge and jury and dismissed someone for whatever reason based on first impressions?
And yes, we all know that you judge a person once you get to know them and discover that they are made of unicorns and rainbows. So let's get real. When did you judge someone? What was the verdict? Did your opinion change upon further personality investigation? Or was this just a first glance, never get to know them permanent judgement?
I was overwhelmed by the "you know's"

Pretty sure that's the only thing the cover is for
I always judge books by their cover.
For example this book is about a crazy pirate the likes to bury bodies instead of treasure.

I didn't bury it, silly, I put on my favourite episode of breaking bad and followed the instructions.
I also hope people's first impression of me isn't in this thread.

I once judged a slightly over weight old lady for running a marathon, thinking to myself she's not going to make it but she was fast and beat me to the finish line! I was mentally embarrassed and ashamed of myself for judging her.4

Judging is natural. Humans make judgements about other humans and then gravitate towards those that we perceive as least threatening to our way of life. People we perceive as being comfortable, familiar or attractive. You're not initially aware that you're doing it. It's for survival purposes. What you decide to do with that judgment is up to you. Guy in front of you screaming at the sky? Turn around? Go to the other side of the street? Walk past? Record and upload to snapchat? Which of these choices yields the highest chances of not being murdered? In my line of work, I have to go into strangers houses everyday. I keep an open mind as to what these people's personalities are and treat them like I'd want to be treated, but in the back of my mind I have to have a back up plan if things go to hell in a hand basket and they turn out to be psychos. I know this was supposed to be a fun topic and I'm ranting at this point, but everyone judges, even if you aren't aware of it.5

OMG, do you need a cover for that novel?

My exact thoughts in first paragraph.
Meh, I was leaning more toward the second paragraph. Much more exciting at the end.

I judge people who use the phrase Judgy McJudgepants while judging other people for judging. I also notice those who call out others for "judging" are usually guilty of the sin of chronic virtue signaling when they aren't scolding others for judging. But if I tell them that, they'll say I'm a Judgy McJudgepants and the party will never end.
I run across this the most with my ( devoted religious family members )0 -
These might be question(s) for a different thread or an offshoot conversation.
But what's the difference between criticizing and judging, in the opinion of you threadsters?
Is there a discernible difference?
Does it matter if it's kept private anyway?
Would one annoy you more than the other if a clear distinction between the two were understood?
Criticize:
1. indicate the faults of (someone or something) in a disapproving way.
Judge:
1. form an opinion or conclusion about.
Huge difference between the two.0 -

I judge Moscato as well. It is the white zin of the 2010s.
What do big tippers usually order vs small tippers? Just curious.
Or, tell me my tip based on my drink
If I'm ordering wine I am a Cab - not brand specific or if at a sports bar, line up the shots of fireball...
My husband is a double Makers Mark neat... same at a sports bar1 -
