School holiday today, so I could have a preferred morning run. Chose to go into work a little late today, in part because I had to work both days last weekend and will almost certainly be working both days plus Monday this weekend, so I didn't have to cut my run short or run in the dark.
The long hill that I normally grumble all the way up did not bother me today, and I didn't start thinking about when I might be done until I was past 4.25 miles, so my brain has apparently adjusted to going farther.6 -
@skippygirlsmom - Wow! What a fantastic day!0

Despite a lot of intervening family weirdness, I did manage to keep the run schedule this week. While I'm no longer really focused on weight loss, I had a breakthrough on that front this week, as I dipped under 170 for the first time in a long time (I'm 5'8", so I'm still not really thin). That puts me at about 45 lbs lost and kept off for about 3 years. I've been close to this point before, and went up with lifting and muscle gain. This time the same weight has come with a new higher level of fitness and tone that I really hadn't imagined when I started on this path in 2013. The plan going forward is to try to enjoy the ride and continue to learn and improve. And maybe a few days of patting myself on the back. Eighteen months ago, I couldn't run a quarter-mile without stopping, and this morning I only walked a couple of times over 3+ miles; I'm feeling better about my physical self than I may ever have in my 50+ years.
Exceeded my first month's goal by over 20%: 54.29 for 45. My running is limited almost as much by the time I have before work in the mornings as by ability, so I'm only going to bump up September's goal by a little. Going for 50 in September. Thanks to the good people on this board for your willingness to share, support and encourage.
If there's anyone in the roughly 10:30-11:30/mile category that wants to be a MapMyRun team member, let me know.

Took a big step today and actually did some speed work. I did 12X1minute hill repeats with 2 minutes recovery. I was worried that it might be too much and I think I was getting close to my limit but my legs feel good. I didn't wake up early enough to do more than 4.5 miles so I'll miss my goal by about 10 instead of 8. Going to try a longer run on Saturday of 14 miles.

Congratulations @Dcorrick ! Its a great feeling when our runs to in to a real run. I've just gotten where I can knock out a mile without a walk break. This must be how @MNLittleFinn and @orphia feels (x26.2)7

As promised I took a rest day today. What an amazing day with Skip. I thought the ceremony would be a quick no big deal, but it wasn't. The Judge talked how the Citizenship Ceremony is without a doubt the greatest pleasure he has in a court room. He gave what I would call the best speech I have EVER heard on why it's an honor and privilege to be a citizen. I looked over at Skip and tears were streaming down her face. I'm so glad she decided to take this step though technically she didn't have to, she was so proud. I had to share. She asked the Judge if she could sit in his chair, the court clerk said it was the first time anyone had ever asked that. Shocking!
I have to admit, I cried a little when I read this. You have raised one fine young lady!2 -
Well. Following pt guidance. I did 1mile Monday. And .7 yesterday. Yes, .7 - I should have stopped at .5. I am realizing already the hard part about this is going to be the not being stubborn bit. I am used to having a goal time or miles and going for it. If that is going to work I need to be good about self checking and stopping if it doesn't feel perfect.
Also, when you are on vacation, and only get a mile you try and find a really pretty mile.

I will post September's challenge in a second. Great job with everyone else on your goals and races.
I have skimmed through everyone's accomplishments but got way behind to really comment on everything.
Good luck next month.
keep on keeping on!!!!!

EDIT: @MobyCarp Yeah, sorry about your injury problems. Not the contest either of us wanted to be in. Good look with your recoup.

I can't believe it. August 1 and I am 7 pages behind.
My goal for this month is 60 and I am going to get it this time.
August 29....I slept 3.5 hours after working all night, saw my doctor afterward, and then hunkered to run the last 6 miles that I needed to complete my goal. I forgot to charge my mp3 player. So I was listening to birds chirping, bees buzzing and the random conversations of people walking their dogs. I have been inspired by the people in Houston who are fighting for their lives and by people working hard to save as many people as they can. I can surely run a measly 6 miles without music. The weather was pretty awesome here, around 82 degrees, slightly humid. It had rained in the morning (nothing like Houston), and it was a little humid. I also was wearing my work shoes, with "happy feet" orthotics. I actually just ran a little slower than I did on Sunday, and was in the zone most of the run.
I decided to run the half at the end of September and maybe a 5K in November. I have never run a shorter race...it will be my first 5K.
Upcoming races:
9/30/2017 Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon
5/5/2018 Indianapolis Mini-marathon.
August 1....6 miles.
August 2....8 miles.
August 4...4 miles.
August 14...6 miles
August 15...5 miles
August 21....6 miles
August 22....8 miles
August 23...5 miles
total....60 miles
goal--60 miles

Oh my goodness you all are just so sweet, Skip wanted to thank you all for the congratulations, she is so touched.
I decided not to run today, my hip was a bit sore last night. Probably too much driving and too much sitting on a hard wooden bench yesterday. I ended the month with 103 miles - 23 passed my original goal so I'm very happy with that.
I need to go back and read through the thread, work is crazy today.
We are expecting some bad weather thanks to Harvey so our first XC meet was postponed until Saturday from today.
Congrats to everyone who reached goal this month, fantastic!!!

Did my 3 miles this morning and completed this month's goal and training plan. On to September!...
@skippygirlsmom - so proud for both you and your daughter!4 -
@Orphia Super congratulations on completing and demolishing your first marathon! Wow! And loved the clips during your run. Your finish was inspiring...it looked as if you could run another 26.2 miles!
@skippygirlsmom Congrats to Skip for obtaining citizenship. That's so cool! I know that she will be an inspiration to those of us who take ours for granted.
@RespectTheKitty I am going to really miss you...love reading your posts, which are so honest and candid. Hurry back soon.
Regarding stretching before or after a run. I usually walk a little before starting my run, and the first 1/4 mile of my run is just aimed at getting to a goal heart rate. After the run, I walk another 1/2 mile and intermittently do jumping jacks (30 at a time), high knees and butt-kick hops....to keep my heart rate in the zone. The jumping jacks seem to help my hips and legs from retaining a lot of soreness, and I don't need a lot of time for recovery.
Congratulations to all who have completed their goals. Good luck and speedy recovery to those who are sidelined with injury.3 -
