Age = less attractiveness?

This is a question that is running through my mind lately. It's probably my own insecurities eating me alive so I wanted to know your opinions. I know losing weight will not only help me look better but also feel better about myself too. But does age play any part in this?
As I get older, I worry I won't be attractive enough to meet new friends or find love from the opposite sex. Does anyone else feel this way?
I know confidence is sexy, of course but as I get older, I worry that my weightloss won't be the same as when I was 20 trying to lose weight(and successfully lost 137lbs in a year!). After regaining that weight though and way more than I bargained for, I am really scared.
I know beauty isn't important and it's society that makes us feel that it is, but will my age, affect my level of attractiveness to others or is this all just in my head?

Yes, age will affect your attractiveness. Depending on what shape you were in when you were younger you could be more attractive as you age if you improve that shape. I was fit when I was younger and I'm fit now at age 54. I don't look as good as I did then from a general perspective, but that doesn't mean I'm not attractive.
Losing a lot of weigh at an older age could mean more wrinkles and saggy skin than when you were younger. But that won't necessarily mean you aren't attractive.
I think it's important to separate beauty from attractiveness. A person does not have to be beautiful for someone to find them attractive. What you do, how you act, how you feel about yourself play a large part in attraction.21 -
Society in general values youth and considers the attributes of youth to be the standard for beauty. That said, there's no reason to think you aren't likeable or loveable because you aren't 19 any more. Most of us aren't!
Aging is inevitable (or beats the alternative, at least). Treat your body with respect, and nurture your body and soul. I intend to grow old as gracefully as possible. Not to say I'll never cover those pesky grey hairs or splash out for a fancy moisturizer that makes unfulfillable promises, but hey, I'm human too
ETA, if the 1992 in your username is your birth year, oh honey, don't worry! You're far from old
And the next 15 or 20 years will layer in some perspective on aging that you might now have just yet. 9 -
Do me a favor think of the guys you liked as a teen. Now who did you have a crush on in your 20s?30s? 40? I bet the men have aged from boys to men that you find attractive. Men's taste mature as well.12

Depends...I'm physically more attractive now than I was when I was younger or at least I feel that way. Most people also don't think I look 43 either and think I'm in my mid 30s. A female colleague of mine was just commenting the other day after looking at a picture of me from 2009 that I look so much younger now a whole 8 years later...this is somewhat attributable to my losing my excess weight, but I think more than that is my fitness...8 years ago I just looked like a fun loving fat guy...now I look fit and athletic (that doesn't come from just losing weight...that comes from training my body) which makes me look younger than I am.
Regular exercise is the fountain of youth...12 -
I think I'm much more attractive in my 40s than I was in my 20s. Age is just a number. There are enough things in life to stress us and bring on insecurity - age is something you can't change (and really, you WANT to age as it means you're still alive
) so try to let go of the number and just focus on the things that you want to change that you also have some control over. 6 -
That depends on what you find 'attractive'. Yes, when you get older, you will get wrinkles. Your body will change. I'm 51 - and my body and face look different than when I was 25 years old. But I'm also wiser, more independent, and (I think) a much more interesting person. 'Beauty' and 'attractiveness' is in the eye of the beholder. I find a good sense of humor and intelligence attractive. Personally, I'm also physically in better shape now than when I was 25 years old.7

I find that the older I get the less I give a rats behind what anyone else thinks about me or anything else in the universe...particularly when it comes to people who are just negative and boring and don't have anything nice to say about the world.
So, don't fret about the future...because odds are good that by the time it arrives you won't even be the same you anyway.26 -

This speaks more to the maturity of the eye of the beholder. A shallow mind desires aesthetic perfection. A mature mind desires more - with that more comes wrinkles, scars, blemishes, gray, etc.
I grew up admiring ladies such as Lauren Bacall and Helen Mirren, not for their looks, but their attitudes, intellect and confidence.
Society gets pretty much everything wrong. Don't follow the masses.15 -

Yeah, it sucks, but people get less attractive as they age and, in general, it is worse for women (in the eyes of most men). Looking around the gym, I see older ladies who are fit and in better shape than I am (not difficult to be) but they are not as attractive as the younger women. Somehow (and it may just be the straight guy in me talking here) I don't see as much of a difference between younger and older guys if they are in shape.
It's not right, it's not fair and it is no reason to not improve your health.

As I have aged I have become so much more confident in the essence of who I am and frankly, somewhere along the line in my maturity my mindset is: here I am world....you can suck it if you don't like it. Really, there is such freedom in maturing. As for my beauty or attractiveness, I am boldly more attractive now than I have been in many many years. Start from the inside out and love yourself first and the world will be attracted to that. And I would agree with what tcunbeliever said dont fret about the future my dear....embrace the right now. Lastly, you are beautiful! Enjoy the journey ....it goes tooo fast.9

Don't worry. And guess what, we find the 25 year old guy working out at the gym a lot more attractive than the 45 yr old guy. But then I am sexually attracted to men, and I'm assuming you're not - so I can better see the difference. Also, there is a difference between finding someone incredibly attractive and being willing to be with them in a relationship. Sure the 20yr old is smoking hot, wouldn't actually date him though.15
