lost 51 lbs for the year. No beach towel needed. Can wrap myself comfortably without grabbing on tightly to the ends to ensure privacy.18

I just got a sunburn on a part of my legs I am not used to putting sunscreen on because my tummy would always block out the sun.36

Landed a fakie big flip while skateboarding today and it felt great. Took an hour to land and I was drenched in sweat after, but it was all worth it when I rolled away from it. God, it's such a good feeling. My two hour skate session burned about 500 calories too, so I'm about to enjoy a whole canister of halo top now. It's been a good day.30

I'm finally getting back into logging. I ate mindlessly today and didn't want to see the damage. But I just logged to the best of my ability and ya know what? It wasn't as bad as I thought! <---NSV #1
As much as I would love to be able to eat intuitively, food it still attached to my emotions from time to time. It's not an unhealthy relationship like it has been in years past. But the two are still connected and I supposed always will be to some extent.
Case in point. I tend to be ALL or nothing. I work hard at moderation and I also work hard at loving myself just as I am and utilizing the all moments of life while making sure to do the nothing part to the best of my ability. The lack of routine in summer meant I was keeping busy cleaning the house and reading books and being mom. It also meant I would put off eating simply because I was too absorbed in my other tasks to be bothered to stop, prepare food, eat food, and then re-enter into focused productive mode.
Welp. My energy levels have been down these last few months and hmmmm I wonder why?? My calories had dropped too low. My workouts/lifting were suffering.
I bumped my intake back up to 2348 (to support the strength gains I hope to make this fall) and WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW.
Energy? BACK.
Strength for lifts? BACK
Stamina for workouts/life? BACK
Mood? MUCH IMPROVED on account of not being so DRAINED and brain foggy all the time.
I don't know exactly what my cals have been this summer but I was trying to lose a little more before fall hit and I had dropped them down to 1800. (loss of 1lb per week via MFP) I had noticed the drop in energy but honestly was just lazy about being patient enough to do this the right way for my body and my goals.
NSV?
-ALL THE ENERGIES
-Hit some excellent (for me) squat #'s this weekend when I had access to a bar & dumbbells instead of having only my power-blocks.
-I've changed a whole big bunch. I mean...what!? I increased my food intake pretty significantly in order to feel better & play the long game instead of the quick fix...who am I!? Hahaha20 -

Going again tomorrow, my little girl is "running" with her Dad and the rest of us are volunteering.
Went for a walk this afternoon with DH and my three younger children. For some reason it took longer than anticipated, making me very late to meet my daughter from work (although she's 17, she's very petite and I worry, especially as a) the place she works at is rather isolated and b) we live close to an area that has regular police patrols due to violent attacks - last year there was a stabbing every month). I was 1.5 miles away, and had 13 minutes to get there. The only way to do this was to leave the rest of the family to get themselves home and to run. So I did. I ran the whole way. In blistering sun, no shade, the whole way. But I did it, I got there on time And it felt good, despite gasping for breath, sweating like a crazy thing and being as red as a tomato by the time I'd finished. Wouldn't be able to run at that speed for a whole 5K though!
I forgo my bicycle ride today, instead I went with DH to collect a cycle for my little girl. She's really excited to get a new bike so that made missing it worthwhile And I can cycle tomorrow.
From one mom to another: your mothering inspires me.
Why? While I haven't read through this entire thread I've been here long enough to see how your personal lifestyle changes are changing your entire family . From your adorable youngest daughter wanting to participate in any way she can (reminds me of my oldest who is a fresh 4yrs) to your son now running 5k(s)...plural! Several! with you. And isn't your older daughter trying out the C25K now too? And you gave up your bike ride to get your daughter a bike! That's a huge deal! For everyone
I guess it's just so completely obvious that your actions are inspiring your whole family and I know this might seem a bit over the top but that sort of change can last for generations. You're building memories with them of their mom investing in them and spending quality time with them that will stay forever. Not to mention setting such a wonderful example of how simple it can be to live actively. That last bit is something I cherish from my growing up years. Thanks for sharing the stories of your family. As my kids grow and our family expands I really do desire to listen when my kids speak up about wanting to try something (like the C25K! Or any other thing really) and to not only encourage them to try it and stick with it but to be in the midst with them trying it and figuring it out too.25 -
I work for a large corporation that has a big emphasis on health. Last month, they sent an email announcement out to all employees that they were accepting applications for "wellness champions" at each campus around the world... these would be employees volunteering to lead wellness activities at their site, focusing on healthy eating, physical activity, and work/life balance. I still have 100 lbs to lose, but I took a leap and applied -- as I explained in my application, there are a lot of employees like me (the "old me") who work long hours, are sedentary all day, and choose unhealthy foods... I thought maybe I could inspire others to make healthy changes for themselves, since they could probably identify with me. Well, I found out last week that I was chosen! There are several of us on the team for my campus -- the others are hardcore runners, daily gym-goers, and just all-around super fit. I'm so honored to be a part of the initiative, and my hope is that I'll not only inspire other employees, but that having this role will help me to keep my focus on my own personal wellness goals.62

I know that's a tiny amount to most people but previously I would have given up after a few minutes and started walking as I "couldn't breathe". This time I concentrated on my breathing and made it to 1.5km before needing to walk. The following day (yesterday) I repeated it and got to 1.7km before walking. My goal is to complete a 5k park run on Saturday 30th September. I may not run it all but I hope to run most of it!!
So this morning I did 2km without walking and I'm soooo ****ing proud of myself! I know my rate of progress won't continue like this, but I'm enjoying it whilst it does. It does mean I need to figure out a new running route as today I had to extend my route in order to get a reasonable cool down walk The 5k at the end of September is starting to look like an achievable goal after all!25 -
The last time I hiked Mount Mansfield (2012) I couldn't make it to the top. I stopped partway up and waited for my friends to reach the summit and come back down.
Well yesterday I made it to the top. It wasn't even that hard31 -
Bought my first 2 piece swimsuits in many many years. I intend to only wear them at home but my DH said I should consider taking one on our next cruise in October. Not sure I'm at that point yet even though I'm 30 pounds lighter than the last time I wore one.19

After losing almost 50lbs.. I have many NSV....
1. I fit in clothes I didn't for many years
2. My daughter tells me how Proud she is of me every chance she gets
3. I get compliments constantly about How much weight I've lost
4. I'm starting to like pictures of myself again
5. My Ugly shorts (affectionately named by my daughter) no longer fit and I can't threaten to wear them again lol
6. I feel more confident
7. I'm enjoying life again!!!

my blood pressure was normal lost 24 lbs.31

Brought my 5-mile walk time down by over 10 minutes yesterday, including a 3-minute wait for a train to pass (which was a great time to catch my breath at less than a mile to go!) Legs are feeling it a little this morning, but it was so worth it!
AND I can fit into some 2XL shirts again! The last time that happened was... 4 years ago at least! They're a little snug still, but I'm wondering if that's not the way they're SUPPOSED to feel, as opposed to how baggy some of my 4XL shirts have been over the past couple of months.33 -
I don't remember if I posted this last week, but it applies this week too. Today at work, I am wearing the pants I wore to interview for this job when I was still in college... TWO YEARS AGO! Last week, they "fit". This week... might be the last week I wear them!25

I went to my first football game of the season this weekend. I actually fit in the seat comfortably without feeling like I was sitting on top of my neighbors.25

I bought size 24 pants for work this weekend! I started this year in a 28/30 depending on cut, so this was a big deal!37

@jaroby - This is undoubtedly one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me about my parenting abilities.
I really needed this today, as my teenage daughter has been at her most trying/needy - it was her first proper day back at college, she's a bit scared as next year means university = living away from home for extended periods and she thinks that she's not ready for it. I've said that she doesn't need to go to university but I think that she wants to, under the blustering/being difficult/needy. She may spend an extra year at college, so she can get her driving licence and get herself ready to go, which is fine by her dad and me. I'd rather she went to uni a year later, happy and more likely to do well than go before she's ready, be miserable and not do as well as she would want to.
My children inspire me as well. They're great, all of them (even when being interesting/challenging). They are all finding their comfortable niches in life and it's amazing. My teenage son has discovered a love of boating, which has got me interested - I now want to try kayaking, rowing and sailing! Things that I would never have dreamed of doing when I was so obese. But now I want to do them because I can! It's all amazing stuff.

The semester started Monday, and it's going great. Exhausting, but great. Pants are ridiculously big. I bet I need some two sizes smaller now.
I did some experimenting and realized I just need to cut out bread. It makes me bloated, sluggish, and I don't sleep well. I thought I'd gained some weight over the summer (snacks, more food around), but a few days without morning toast and fruit instead and I'm down a few lbs and feeling lighter / trimmer.
I'm glad I thought to do some experimenting ... It's funny how the mantra here is it's calories in / calories out, but there are some quirky things, I guess, some of us need to figure out in order to work with our bodies.
I've got the same issues with bread and anything wheat. I've experimented on myself as well. My problem is that I just like it so much!! I do cut back, but some times, I have a little and then have just one more... it's so hard for me to stop bread once I start. I really need to go back to not buying it again, but when you have little kids, it's really hard to do. Especially when they have to take lunch with them, and there's no microwave for them to heat up soups or anything; sandwiches are pretty much the only options.
Yes. Bread gives me brain fog. Same with pasta.
I've found certain switches helpful. We now buy sourdough bread. It has less of an effect on me and the kids don't mind it.
I also have fresh hashbrowns as my breakfast carb. (Instead of toast)
Lastly, I make Porridge (overnight oats) (1/2C oats, 12C water, 1T plain yogurt mixed and left out at room temp overnight or for 12-24hrs) boil 1/2C water and a pinch of salt in the am. Stir in the oats mixture and stir until heated/boiling. Can add in an egg to make it a more custard consistency
The slight fermenting process of the sourdough and the porridge is a sort of "pre-digestion" of the grain. It makes it easier for my body to digest it thereby creates less bloating and brain fog.
EDIT: 1/2C water!! NOT 12C!! Hahaha7 -

@Madwife2009 you are very welcome! And how exciting to try so many new things! I went Kayaking (on a local river with some shallow rapids) for the first time this summer. It's SO MUCH FUN. With how much you love going fast down hills on the bike I bet you'll enjoy kayaking! Especially if you have an opportunity to get out on a river.11
