I'm in being doing it since 1 September plus 2 ltrs water; log MFP under 1200 calories per day and minimum of 30 minutes of exercise4

I'm in. Alcohol is fattening. It's making my weight loss slower than it should be.3
-
I almost slipped up before. I had the wine glass out, looked at my stomach, and back went the wine glass into the cabinet.10

I feel good about this week but am a little nervous about Thursday. I am getting my hair done and they always offer "free" wine. Not going to lie, it does help the two hours go by. But I need to get out of that mindset and hold onto that willpower.3

There are plenty of other people who opt against the free wine and get water or coffee having a clear head will help you concentrate on getting your hair beautiful...3 -
I've not had a drink since Saturday night, I think it's the longest I've gone without a drink in a while which is awful and scary to say. I'm feeling good, I exercised yesterday, and am planning to go for a run this evening after a concert. How are you all doing?6

That's awesome! I am going on 51 days now. the longest I have done is 59 days earlier this year, so I am shooting for 60 or 90. The longer I go without and the more I focus on working out and my health goals, the less I even think about wanting alcohol. I am doing so good without it...why start again? When I was drinking on the weekends, I was undoing all of my hard work during the week by drinking too much and eating too much crap.
It's also very helpful to see and know that there are other people out there who want to be healthy and are figuring this alcohol thing out too You all are very inspiring and helpful to me.5 -
Weekends are still the hardest for me. I've been quitting/abstaining/moderating for a little over two years now. When I went 90 days without a drink I felt the best I've ever felt and never had to fight off the urge to drink in the last 60 days of that quit. It was an awesome feeling! There were still thoughts, but they were fleeting lasting only a second or two.
So far this month I've had drink on three different occasions, but they were not because I felt that I "needed" a drink, it was moderate drinking with a self-imposed limit. I do great on a ketogenic diet and wine and beer don't figure into that. Lost ten pounds in the past three months which, for me, is great! I'm exercising weekly, walking daily, and enjoying life without booze pulling me down.
That said, my best weeks are those that I don't drink and when I do feel like drinking on the weekend, I have some ice cream and head to bed early. For whatever reason, that works for me.
Forums like this and newdayforme.org help me stay in the groove by recognizing that I'm not alone, that there is potential for a better way of living, and that moderation can work.4 -
I really need to join this challenge! I don't keep wine in my house very often because it is too easy to come home after work and have a bottle. My issue is at my boyfriend's house. He enjoys buying wine for me and always keeps some for when I visit. So, I am always tempted to have a glass or two after work before going home especially when work has been very stressful. Kinda defeats the purpose of not keeping it at my house if I just go to his instead.4

I'm allowing myself as a treat if I wish one Saturday or Friday a month to enjoy my beers. I have it calculated in as with a meal for after and I'm going to only give that to myself if I have earned it for those other 29-30 days of the month!! A reward. Or if there is something going on for that month I will save it for that or if there are lots of things going on I will pick my favorite and save it for that!6

I'm traveling for work this week and away for the weekend. Every time I say, "I will NOT drink at ALL" I end up blowing it. So the plan remains, if I want to have a drink it has to fit in the daily cals. Period. And since I also like to eat, there isn't much room in those cals. Staying the course!!!5

You all are so inspiring!1

Good job! When I am not drinking alcohol I drink water out of my wine glass. Makes me get up more to refill the glass and there is something about drinking from a wine glass or cute coffee cup i love. I like your name. I love to knit and quilt, tried to crochet but I always go back to knitting.2 -
Checking in!
I was successful last Friday, I sipped on my sparkling water and went to bed after watching Netflix.
Saturday night was my planned wine drinking night for mine and my husband's 1st wedding anniversary dinner at a fancy restaurant known for their wines... but then I bought a bottle on the way home.
Sunday, there was still half a bottle of wine left on my counter from the night before so I though "might as well drink it now so it's out of the house" lol oyyy-vey!
So, now that that's out of the way, my goal this weekend is to only have a glass Saturday night, cutting out Friday and Sunday again (or abstaining altogether over the weekend if I find my willpower is strong enough)6 -
I'm late but I'm joining this. I work for a company that has a very locker room mentality where we often stop for drinks after work. I'm going to start declining these more often, and try to limit the business drinking to very special occasions/fellow workers leaving.7
-
Still going strong. I said I was not going to drink during the week, and last week I had a couple of drinks on Saturday. Made a better decision about what to drink as well. Vodka, Soda, and fresh lime juice.
I feel much better not drinking.
Hopefully we do not have any plans this weekend, so I can go a complete week without drinking.4 -
Doing great everyone!!2

Had a strong sober saturday but haven't done well since. Nothing crazy just not 100% AF. Fighting the cravings now. Anybody out there?2

Reducing and being aware is a great first step. How other your other health goals going? I find the more I focus on working out and being healthy, I am less tempted or interested in drinking.

Hi All. Checking in - been following my plan of 1 drinking evening every two weeks (or twice a month). Had my first one early in the month and haven't planned my second one yet.5
-
I'm checking in, too. Been 15 days AF and I'm feeling good about that. This is definitely the longest I've abstained since I was pregnant w/ my last child (and that child is now 12 yrs old - ha!) Keep on keepin' on, everyone! We can do it.5

Almost caved today, lots of stress over my dad being in surgery for prostate cancer, argument with my daughter, other daughter lost her job, grrr! Made it through by walking, drinking lots of water and I'm happy to say my dad's surgery went well!8

I'm trying really hard! Every time I drink, it just ends in excess, weight gain, and feeling sick. The problem with being an alcoholic (that's me) is that I can only abstain for so long...bad relapse cycle...but I'm doing my best. Day 4 today of not drinking11

I too have a bad relapse cycle, trying very hard to change my ways, great job on 4 days:)6 -
Day 4 for me. I have about an hour to kill between end of work and my hair appointment and so many opportunities to go have a drink, and then the offer of free wine awaits at the salon.
I went for my last run before Sunday's race today and I was still slower than I want to be. I am trying to convince myself that if I drink tonight (or at all before the race) that it will negatively impact my time. Because in all reality it's probably true.
Plus...I have my weigh in for the "Lose 5 lbs in September" challenge tomorrow and I know wine would put me over!7 -
It's Day 6 for me - the main thing is that I've consistently worked our every day this week, and I have remained at the same weight were before I would fluctuate a lot. I think this is a good thing! I made plans to go to a bar tonight, so we'll put to the test that I can do that without drinking alcohol. We shall find out!
Happy Friday everyone, the weekend is coming so that"s going to be a challenge!6 -
We are halfway through the month!4
-
Although it's halfway through the month already, this is something I need to do. Between 2013 and 2015 I lost over 190lb having quit drinking in 2012. Over the past 18 months the drinking has started to creep back into my life, starting out with a couple on a Friday, then a couple on both Friday and Saturday, then more than a couple on both nights. I don't really ever suffer from headaches or sickness, but the anxiety and feeling of guilt I'm always left with is not pleasant to say the least. So I'm commiting to going AF until the end of the month and hopefully carrying it on indefinitely.12

Thanks. Did good that one day then ended up finishing the bottle during the week. I think I will have to try not keeping any wine or beer that I like around. If it's not here, I can't drink it. I have gotten better at my portion sizes though. I now measure it out instead of just filling the glass to the top. I used so disciplined back when I was younger!!
I have been crocheting for awhile now and I love it because I can go at a pretty fast pace. I never learned to knit. I've watched people do it and it seems to go so slow. It would drive me crazy.
