Morning, first cup of coffee and little crustless quiches for breakfast today, yum. I had a lovely date with a work friend yesterday afternoon with a glass of wine, we split an appetizer--fun and not over my cico limits. This is my preferred eating out experience, savor the food, emphasis on taste, not quantity by splitting small plate. I will hit the gym early today so I don't procrastinate too much! Lots of paperwork, laundry, cleaning to do on these days off. I hope to get a lot done at home so I can enjoy the weekend with DH, though we don't have anything planned.
Allie Sounds like you're on your way.....just remember there are a lot of women behind you today, cheering you on

Morning, afternoon and evening, my chickens...
Ah... on the subject of wanderlust. Not sure I've ever put this out where anyone could see it. Facebook thought someone was trying to hack me when I started putting in ALL the places I've lived. But here's the list:
Born in Minot North Dakota,
Moved back and forth between Texas and Montana until I was six.
Moved to my paternal grandfather's property in Texas, at six years old, where I started school, then to a house 20 miles away, where I lived 'til I graduated a year early from high school.
Left home at 17, moved to my paternal grandfather's house in- Nacogdoches, Texas, then went into the Air Force, in basic training at
- Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, then technical training at
- Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colorado, then to my first "permanent" base at
- Lakenheath Air Force Base, Suffolk, United Kingdom (where I got married) and moved to
- Lakenheath Village, to a farmhouse, then two years later was transferred to
- Great Falls, Montana, then moved on base four years later at
- Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana, until we were transferred to
- Newbury, Berkshire, United Kingdom (assigned to Greenham Common RAFB) 'til transferred to
- Aurora, Colorado, then moved to base housing a year later at
- Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado, then were transferred to
- Las Vegas, Nevada (assigned to Nellis AFB), where the ex retired from the Air Force, and we moved to
- Madisonville, Texas, halfway between my mother's and Texas A&M, where I was working on my master's, then
- Grapevine, Texas, lived in a condo for six months, then rented a house, still in
- Grapevine, Texas, for two years, then we bought a house in
- Euless, Texas, until his employers transferred him to
- East Alton, Illinois, which is where I left him, and went to my sister's, in
- Fort Stockton, Texas, who lived in a crappy little rent house. Three months later, still in
- Fort Stockton, Texas, my sister and 4 kids moved to a big house, with an apartment on it for me. Then
- Fort Stockton, Texas, once more, when I moved in with Corey in a trailer park, then
- Fort Stockton, Texas, where we moved with both kids to a condo in
- Fort Stockton, Texas, then six months later bought a house, also in
- Fort Stockton, Texas, then we sold that house and moved to
- Lakeview, Oregon, to a rental house on the lake, then bought a house in
- Coos Bay, Oregon, then two years later, sold it and moved to
- Longfellow Ranch, 45 minutes from Fort Stockton, Texas, then a year later moved, still on
- Longfellow Ranch, to the ranch manager's house, then moved to
- Fort Stockton, Texas, to the warehouse we bought, and where we live now
Whew! That was exhausting, and it's possible I missed a couple.
More later (but not more moves!) (yet, anyway! ) ,

Go Allie! :drinker:
Texted my friend who is having her oral chemo today for the first time. She had just had all the blood tests done and was waiting for results. She has been through the normal chemo and this is the last holding one available just to ease her symptoms.
Did my roots today. Natural blonde again!
DH was delayed going off to cricket. Bad light. He is not optimistic as rain is forecast.
I've got the cake out of the freezer.
Michele - I just do a normal butter icing. Butter and icing sugar. I am adding melted chocolate as it's a chocolate fudge cake. It's only for the inside filling as the top and sides are blue and white fondant for the FROZEN theme.
My friend is arriving in an hour. Just a short toddle down the road for some salmon and big plate of veggies. The hollandaise comes on the side. One small spritzer.

That is quite the list!!
I think I've lived in 24 places in Canada (4 provinces) and Australia (2 states), counting the 8 months we spent travelling the world with no real fixed address as 1 "place".
My husband and I have been married for 9 years, and the place we're currently in now is the longest we've lived anywhere together. We've just hit 3 years here! Since we've been married, I've lived in 9 places and he has lived in 8 (we spent our first 9 months as a married couple on the opposite side of the world, so our count is slightly different).
M ... currently in a place in Oz.2 -
A view of the walking portion of my commute to work, near home ... taken at the end of December last year. The flowers aren't in bloom yet this year, but with any luck maybe they'll start in about a month or so.
This is also on our walks to the beach and back after work. The beach is, of course, down where the water is. And we've done that walk every day this week so far, except for Monday! Monday was spinning class.

Feeling frustrated about a dental issue.
-- About 18 months ago, I went to the dentist with a broken tooth. He filled it.
-- 6 months later it broke again, quite badly, and the next dentist at the same practice did a root canal.
-- But over the past year, it has never felt quite right.
-- Then about a month or so ago, the tooth broke again.
Went back to the practice today, and got in to see a third dentist (seems to be a revolving door at this practice) who did not even look in my mouth, and before I could say anything, basically told me that a broken tooth was to be expected if I waited so long between stages of the root canal, and that I should have at least finished the root canal in a timely manner. I had to interrupt him to tell him the entire root canal was finished **a year ago**. It took him a while to hear me and "get it".
Now he's talking about drilling out the root canal and inserting pins (wasn't that already done during the root canal?) and doing all sorts of thing to the tune of over $2000.
Somehow, I'm just not feeling happy about this.
I have two other teeth with root canals which have lasted 18 years and about 10 years, and they're still going. Why did this one only last 1 year and why are we talking about redoing the root canal?
Maybe time for a second opinion at a different practice?
M in Oz3 -
M in Oz Sorry about the tooth. Inserting a pin is different than a root canal and that procedure is very expensive. I do think you need a second opinion. When the root canal did not feel right it was a good time to go back into dentist to find out why. Unfortunately too late for that. Why did the root canal fail? Is a good question to start. Is the tooth breaking because of your bite? another good question. Is it the materials they are using? Are you careful not to chew ice? Hard foods like nuts? Popcorn? It is so frustrating when you think something is fixed and you have to go back to get it fixed again. Especially your teeth. (((M))) Good Luck!1

Thanks!
I didn't go back to the dentist after the root canal because I was going through about 2 months of measles, a pile of long distance cycling events, and finishing another course ... going back to the dentist was the last thing on my mind. (Things were chaos a year ago!!) And she said that it might take a little while to settle. It did kind of ease up a bit and I just figured that might be as good as it got.
I do grind my teeth at night, and suspect that might be part of the problem ... but oddly none of the dentists I've seen here have asked me about that.
I also have a theory that doing long distance cycling drains calcium out of the body and is hard on teeth. But that's just my theory and I've never heard a dentist talk about it.
I don't remember why it broke the first time ... suspect maybe a granola bar? The second time it was a chocolate covered coffee bean in the middle of a 400 km bicycle ride. Made for a rough last 200 km! And this third time ... I knew it had started to develop a crack 2 or 3 months ago. It just felt different. I try not to eat anything on that side at all, and don't recall eating anything particularly hard (I rarely eat nuts, don't crunch ice, and haven't touched popcorn in years ... I don't even eat carrots because of that tooth), but all of a sudden, it just fell apart.
This most recent dentist tried to tell me that this often happens with root canals ... and yet I've had two other teeth done which have lasted much longer.
Anyway, I'm planning to go to my husband's dentist to see what they have to say.
It just annoys me because I've already dropped well over $1000 on several appointments, X-rays, a filling and a root canal ... only to have the tooth fall apart a year later.

Today is World Gratitude Day.
"The hope of the founders of Gratitude Day is that by taking time, one day a year, to reflect on the many amazing things we have in our lives, it would positively impact our well-being and make us happier, more contented people." I struggle to make gratitude a daily practice - that is, to consciously make time to sit and think about all the things I have to be grateful for. It's good to have a reminder now and then.
Lanette - Loop 610 in Houston was completed when I was a very young child. (Dad used to take me to fly kites there when it was under construction.) Anyhow, we lived about a half mile from the freeway - not far enough for the noise to be disturbing, but just enough to make a constant, steady hum. It sounded almost like surf, and I still find the sound soothing.
Becca - Ooh, how great to have gardening neighbors to barter with!
Michele - The display font on my screen made your note to Carol look like "I hope Porn is OK." ! It made me do a double-take and think, "Well, I guess it's none of my business!"
Drkatiebug - LOL! Loved your mother of the bride joke!
Dana - About the flu shots, Philip says he dosn't think it makes any difference in whether or not he gets the flu. But I say he sees people all day long and he needs the dang shot!
Joyce - Wow, I can't imagine them recommending surgery without knowing for sure that the gall bladder is the problem. It's not like it's difficult to check! Whatever they do, I hope it's a good solution to the problem.
My former choir is having a flash mob at one of the Austin farmer's markets this weekend to celebrate the choir's 30th anniversary. It makes me miss singing with them, and I'll be out of town so I won't even get to hear them sing! It's just too far for me to make the weekly Monday night drive there and back, though.
I was arguing with myself this morning because I really want to go get a manicure before I leave tomorrow, but I need to work out. Finally I told myself that if I work out during my lunch break, I can have the mani as a reward. So that's today's plan.
I'm grateful for all of you!

Machka I hope you find a dentist to do the root canal quickly. You don't want to wait on that too long.
I've moved a bunch too. I'll try to remember them all:
1. Born in Hemet, CA, Southern California.
2. Lived in San Jacinto, CA, just a few mile from the Hemet hospital. We were there one year then we
3. Moved to Pacific Beach, CA. This is near San Diego, CA. Since I was a toddler and I had an inclination to head for the clifffs above the ocean we
4. Moved to San Diego. My mom got tired of the fog in the winter so we
5. Moved to El Cajon, CA, which is inland about 10 miles. After 5-6 years; I was in 6th grade, we
6. Moved back to Hemet. My dad decided to build a house on a large lot so we could have horses. So when the house was done we
7. Moved back to San Jacinto. I went to my last two years In high school, then I got married and moved to our own apartment. We decided to move to a larger apartment. So, we
8. Moved to Hemet. My husband and I broke up. I started dating and then
9. Moved to Perris, Ca. We
10. Moved to a larger place in Perris. Since we were in Riverside most of the time with friends we decided to
11. Move to Jurupa, (J's are silent) a suburb of Riverside. I had two kids by this time and my DH had a trucking business. We built a house and
12. Moved back to Perris. My youngest daughter was born and after 12 years of marriage, my DH left me for a waitress. I moved back to San Jacinto and
13. Moved into my grandmother's house who recent died. My mom sold her house so I had to move a year later, so I
14. Moved to a rental house in San Jacinto with my three kids kids in tow. This is where I met my best friend Donna. I had a job offer with L'eggs Products in the desert, so I
15. Moved to Indio, Ca, into a condo. I met my third DH. We were married 12 yrs and
16. Lived at Bermuda Dunes Country Club for 8 yrs. We got divorced and I
17. Moved to La Quinta, Ca. I met another guy. A wonderful person but was an terminally ill alcoholic. I let him move in which was probably a big mistake. He passed away. I was laid off from my job and received a good package so I decided to go back to school. I
18. Moved to Morongo Valley in the high desert. It was a cute little house with beautiful mountain views. By then, my kids where on there own. I worked a temp job and landed another job in Orange County. I stayed with a friend in
19. Riverside. I
20. Moved with her to Colton. I got another job so I
21. Moved to Fullerton, Ca to a cute studio apt. I had three 10x20' storage units of my furniture and stuff. I met another guy and decided to get married in Las Vegas. Another big mistake!! We
22. Moved to a house in Santa Ana, Ca. My dad was ill and my mom offered us to come find a big house where we all could live to help out. So we
23. Moved to Grand Junction, CO. We didn't get along so well, DH and I got a divorce. My parents decided to move to Texas where my sister was. I
24. Moved to Kyle, Texas with my parents. I got an apt right away and
25. Moved north to Austin. Of course I met another guy. But this one is the ONE!! We were married in Austin. DH moved in and then we
26. Moved to apt #2, jobs changed so
27. We moved apt #3 in north Austin. The neighbors upstairs were noisy so
28. We moved to apt #4 in the same complex. We stayed there the longest. It was a nice apt with a beautiful deck and quiet. When we retired we bought a house and left our beloved Texas and
29. Moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. We have a beautiful home on 1.3 acres in the woods and we share our home with Dolly our coonhound. DH are very happy together. Sometimes it takes time to find the right person!
i guess the next time we move it will be the old folks home! I don't plan on moving again!

Becca: Congratulations and hugs. I'm sorry you missed the call from Owain.
Janetr: I must have misread your post.
Yvonne: I got my flu shot at the pharmacy yesterday. My shoulder is a little bit sore today, but not bad. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: Our vet prescribed Pepcid AC for our dog, too. He gets half a tablet when needed. I can tell when he needs it because his poo gets runny.
Dana: My DH did not get a flu shot, either. He's hoping to get the serum and give it to himself. We used to have a pharmacist that would do that for him, but he moved to Montana. I don't think DH's chances are good. :noway:
Allie: Three cheers! I hope the next chapter of your life is full of peace and happiness.
Lisa: You have lived in so many places! :flowerforyou:
M in Oz: I hope you're able to get some perspective from your visit to your DH's dentist.
I'm getting a bone scan this morning. I've had one before and it is not unpleasant. I hope to find out that I'm holding my own. I'm taking the medicine given me, and doing weight bearing exercises 3 to 5 times a week in addition to the walks and other things in daily life.
