I would like to think I am in a good mood today. But I am not sure.
My son, for the person who asked, is 8. That's him in the picture from last November. But he has grown 3 inches and is looking skinny. Also, we (he chose, I said OK) had his hair cut in a military barbershop to 'regulation.' It was a mistake. I am wetting it down and trying to keep it mostly looking like it was brushed recently. Ladies, that boy is all I live for.
He looked at the pictures posted here. I want the salad shown but he wants the 3 dogs YOGI and 2 others. We looked them over 2 times!
We went to the Y pool yesterday and a man struck up a conversation with me. I DIDN'T LIKE IT. He asked questions about where I lived, what I did in the community, and eventually told me what I said about my husband was not correct. I told him I did not know but that is what it said on the tombstone. And he seemed to doubt my 'claim' of having mowed any of the lots on the street I supposedly own (the lots, I don't own the street). Then he realized he had known my husband and met me before. Finally, my son swam up and around to claim his property (me) and that seemed to move the man on. Oh, my, goodness. I will take care not to get trapped in a corner of the pool-I was just trying to exercise as I do daily there. If a person speaks to me, I speak but I had to keep an eye on the boy at the other end and the lifeguard that goes to our church was there. I was just uncomfortable. If he knew my husband then where was he at the funeral? You know, we all do, people can say things and be just full of untruth but I like to think I mostly stick to the facts with a bit of humor. He left shortly after the boy began to do his usual antics of swimming around and splashing. I hate when people say He can't be your child...but the man looked at him and said he looks exactly like Phil (my husband). Then also something about protruding eyes. I reminded him my husband was 1/2 Japanese which he did not know? Anyhow, he left saying he would drive by the street to see the lots and I replied Sure, you will see Phil's truck right there in my driveway. My husband had that truck for years. Also he added Do not mess with the IRS and tax people. ?I guess I stew on things but...well, I will not exercise at the deep end in the corner just to leave room for others anymore!3 -
Morning, all... (and afternoon and evening to those in other hemispheres and time zones...)
I think I mentioned I bought the Instant Pot Mini. We tried it out last night with dried pinto beans in chicken stock... and it was amazing. Threw in about a quarter of a pork loin that we had left over, some spices, a little Cholula for the vinegar and heat, and it turned out incredibly tasty. We decided to try it without pre-soaking, because we really wanted to know if it was going to work at all--and while it did take two of the "bean/chili" cycles to fully cook them, that's still only an hour at pressure... as opposed to six to eight hours of cooking time from dry or three hours if you soak them. And the stock with the spices and the bean and pork flavor was incredibly yummy.
And, for me, SO much less scary than dealing with a top-of-the-stove pressure cooker, which has always scared the snot out of me. My husband's quite excited (he's the cook) at the idea of trying it out with various meats, veggies, seasoning, rice, etc. So one of my chores today will be finding heat-safe bowls/pans that will fit inside it in order to cook two things at once. Nice to see him excited again--we're both kind of burned out on eating the same old things.
That's pretty much the ambition for today...
Love y'all,
Lisa in West Texas5 -
Lisa you sound like the converted! I love my mini IP as well. Cooked chickpeas from dried, then made hummus. Yummy.

Dana: Which iphone do you have? Mine is a 10.3 & AT&T has sent me a message that I'm eligible for an upgrade. Thinking about it. I only have a little capacity left because of all the photos and apps that I have on the phone. :ohwell: We also get Direct TV but our data is with Century Link.
Alison: Don't buy junk food. Stock your new refrigerator, cupboards, and your new life with only the best, healthy food. I know that if I have junk food around, I'll eat it. This is probably true for most people. Have veggies and fruit available if you need a snack. Celery is on the amazing list for snacking. As I recall, raw celery takes more calories to digest than it contains. (Unless you put a dip on it.) :flowerforyou:
Pip: We have an Anytime Fitness place here in town. I was a member for a while before I retired, but it wasn't right for me. DH wouldn't go with me, and I didn't like being there alone. The sports center where I go now is just right for me. There is lots of variety in classes and equipment, and people who have become friends. Mornings have a lot of 50+ people. Evenings have a younger crowd of people who come in after work.
We're having a grumpy morning here in paradise. We didn't like the outcome of the homeowners meeting yesterday. DH just got mad because I turned to face my computer and type. Do you remember the old movie, Marty, with Earnest Borgnine? His character and the character's friend are sitting around saying, "What do you want to do?" "I don't know. What do you want to do?" Today, that is the two of us.

Josephine ~ I am amazed that a man you didn't know would ask you so many personal questions. I would have ended the conversation quickly.
Katla ~ Sorry your meeting was a disappointment.
Lisa ~ I have not been very adventurous using my mini pot. I was worried if I cooked beans in it they would froth too much. Did that happen?
Long day here! I am a tv addict and miss my daily shows on the weekend.
Carol in GA3 -
Oh, Josephine, that sounds so uncomfortable and awkward. I hope you don't run into that guy again.
The antibiotics are kicking in, and I am feeling better. I haven't run or hiked in eight days, since falling ill, so I need to get back at it. I have been so wiped out after work that all I've managed is Pilates and dance.
My son's advertising thing went well. He said he was nervous, but that it was still fun. I will post a picture from it when I am able.
Allie, your move is so exciting.
Katla, sorry the hoa meeting didn't go well.
The teenager and I went to see The Kingsmen last night. Oh dear. I could have done without some of the violence, but it is comic book violence, and completely unrealistic. The teenager lived it.
Have a great Sunday.

Sean is out, and they are back at the cottage, he is taking a shower and wearing his own underwear, from what I heard they had to wear someone elses. i sure it was clean but still... dont know when they will be home, I really would like to get some stuff done today. but kind of hard, as I can't really leave Faith alone..5

Wow - how come I have not seen this group before? What an amazing group of inspirational ladies! Hello from Ontario Canada (near Ottawa) I am late to the September renewal party...but here I am - better late than never!
I have been on here for awhile, but only regularly for the last month - lost a few pounds, tracking really well, but failing miserably on the activity spectrum!
I love the idea of September being the new January! I've used this time of year to begin many new challenges and goals - so I AM IN!
August is a special month for me. I quit smoking 5 years ago on August 15th - I feel great, but sadly, gained 50 lbs in that last 5 years. So I'm giving myself 2.5 years to get it off.
I also just received the most amazing gift - on August 29th, my very first grand-daughter arrived! I am over the moon! And she gives me MAJOR INCENTIVE to lose this weight and be healthy so I can be at her University graduation at least! Maybe even see "great-grand-motherhood" someday!
My daughter is a September baby...close enough to August :-)
Onto my resolutions... I am working on an "end of year" plan, to get to ONEderland - and so far (August) I'm down 4.2 towards that goal. (21 lbs to go - do the math LOL)
September Resolutions
- drop another 5 lbs
- Reorganize kitchen cupboards
- Finish reorganizing spare bedroom/office - includes purging
- Get my outstanding paperwork in order
- Finish 2 of my many books that I am partially through (I'm so bad at not finishing books!)
- Move more (stay on my 21 Day Fix workout routine for AT least one session)
Glad I found you guys! I will try and visit here regularly!9 -

WELCOME , Dances! What would you like to be called?
I'm home and I'm tired. Did not sleep much at all. Overexcited (!) and terrible earworm from Let It Go. At one point I was crying with frustration.
This morning we walked down to the beach to meet DS and DGS after their swimming session at the pool. Had top quality ice creams. After lunch in the garden we babysat for a bit so DDIL and DS could play tennis. Then we left well before the rush from the beach. Beautiful weather today.
Wanted something easy for tonight, so it's opening a jar of French fish soup and throwing in some defrosted prawns. I have rouille, croutons ready, so all I have to do is grate a bit of cheese. Yum!
Food is sooooooooooooo important in my life, I make it an absolute priority. I like to eat like French woman, taking time over carefully prepared food and eating mindfully. I need to feel valued and cherished by my food, so I take great care to eat healthily and beautifully. If I skimp on that it only leads to me feeling deprived and then bingeing ensues. Junk food does not feed the soul. I like a really good better-than-restaurant-quality meal every evening, but I rarely eat more than 400 calories on the main course. Often less. Low carb. Then my dessert of stewed fruit and homemade yoghurt, then cheese, then a candy or chocolate. The whole four course dinner comes to around 620 calories. I can only eat this much because I have an exercise regime of 600 calories a day. I have noticed that all the women here on maintenance or successfully, consistently, losing, have a strong exercise regime. That is not a coincidence. No one can sustain a low calorie diet for long.
I lost weight last week and I am within half a pound of my maintenance weight again. I had three high quality restaurant meals out with friends and family and quite a lot of alcohol. Only one day did I go over my calorie allowance.
My next task is to renew my commitment to drinking less alcohol. I was doing so well before the cruise, but this cough threw me into a tailspin and I really wanted that drink at 6 pm. It is just a habit and I can turn it around again.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Just want to introduce myself - this looks like such a fantastic group!
I'm Julie - 51 years old and I so want to get to a point where I can say years young instead. Sure doesn't feel that way right now. My weight is at an all time high of 215 and I'm a mess. So today is leaf turnover day. Put my Fitbit back on, installed My Fitness Pal on my phone again. I'm tired of feeling horrible, tired, old, and hurting.
Goals:
1. Track every bite - good or bad - make it a habit.
2. Get up and move for 10 minutes every hour while I'm working - I sit at a computer all day.
3. Wear my Fitbit every day.
4. Weigh in on Sunday evenings.
I need all the support I can get.
Julie

Carol, no, as long as everything together goes no higher than halfway up the inner pot, there are no issues with foaming up. Lots and lots of recipes out there.

Sue Sorry about losing your pretty chestnut mare. I had a half-arab chestnut mare who taught all my kids to ride, as well as all the neighborhood kids. She lived till 33yrs. I missed her a lot and just six months ago, I finally bought another chestnut arab mare who looks a lot like her. Love those redheads!
Well, I must admit I am failing miserably on my September goals! Even though I have been running a lot, I am up 7 pounds now. I had dropped down to 125lbs and now I am up to 132 lbs. I haven't been going to the gym much for the past three weeks for several stupid reasons: 1. Too embarrassed about my funky red/white hair which is still in the painful process of bleaching out before I can dye it ash-blonde. 2. Sore "tennis elbow" playing up
3. Daughter has been too busy to go with me. None of these are truly good reasons and I could be working out at home more instead. I have been under various stresses lately, with two adult children moving back home, increased mess, noise and demands, financial pressure and hormonal dips and highs and my eating has been all over the place. So, it's time to pull up my socks and make some progress in the right direction. I am going to work out, right now, and I am going to figure out my food for the day and log it. Wendy7 -
Julie, we are so glad to have you. Sounds as if you have a good plan an are putting it in place. This is a great group of supportive, encouraging ladies. Our main focus is living a healthy lifestyle and ditching all the "diets". You have to determine what works best for you and decide if you can do it for a lifetime. If not, it won't work. I'm quite sure I've lost 1500# in my lifetime, on what ever diet, and gained it back. But like you I was tired of "feeling horrible, tired, old, and hurting."
Hang with us, we can do this

Welcome new peeps2

Heather - I so appreciate what you said about eating GOOD food (better than restaurant quality). And eating like French women eat. I think that's the key - being mindful of what goes into our mouths. Make it delicious and special. I also read, when researching cutting back on sugar, to have ONE really scrumptious dessert once a week. Instead of grabbing candy bars and/or cookies each day, make a habit of saving that sugar for a treat (if it even tastes good anymore!).
That's my goal.
Heather - I too recall you often enter "copy yesterday" onto the MFP food diary. Since I normally eat the same basic things each day, I just went onto the diary and entered those foods ahead through this Wednesday. I can always subtract them if not eaten at the end of the day, but they are my guide for getting balanced meals and enough fiber and protein.
Then I'll add in other items. I do not log foods every day. Gave that up when I stopped Weight Watchers, altho I think it helped me at the time.
I have been very lucky so far that I've been getting enough exercise to burn through overindulgences calorie-wise and not add weight (and tighter jeans mainly!)
Reading about physical problems some of us and our spouses and family members have which limit their mobility and ability to exercise keeps me getting those walking shoes on in the morning and doing the strength training three times a week. I am very, very grateful I can still do those things.
Welcome new peeps! You have come to the right place!

Kelly, was reading about the conference or whatever you went to about children's brains and neurology. It all reminded me of the lady we had hear that was an advocate of children, especially those with special needs due to abuse. I just can't remember her name no matter how hard I try. Been thinking about her for while. She had adopted her nieces or grandchildren. She lived in a beautiful Victorian home. Help! Who was she?
Well I would say church was good but it was far from normal. You don't usually see some one approach the pastor during the service. But some one walked up the side aisle and whispered to him. Then he stood up and took over the 'deacon moment' and said that one of our men had been found dead. He was a Sunday School teacher and had not arrived for Sunday School. That is highly unusual for this man. Since he was absent for choir also, the preacher sent some one to check on him at his house. This guy was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, minister and filled in for our preacher when he was gone for some reason, choir member and teacher in a local university. He was a real interesting man. He will be missed. Our service was definitely God led since the pastor was shocked and couldn't share any of his emotions with anyone and the service had to be changed without consulting anyone. As far as choir, wow, my other send alto wasn't there, and other main soprano was absent at a craft fair so our second choir row was just 2. Yep, 2 of us. And there were a total of 2 sopranos. So the church director sang soprano with them. She was going to sing 2nd alto with me but she had to switch and sing soprano. So the just few 2 nod alto parts I was on my own.
Chris, some things worried me about your date. Who was it that had a recent relationship and he was very possessive. When your date had already called for reservations, this reminded me of that guy.
Ok, my thoughts of the day.
Joyce, Indiana2 -
Hello and happy Sunday. We chose not to go to church today; I was anxious about getting comments from the paper story. So it’s a quiet day here. My 5-day headache is nearly gone, so that’s good news. I have lots of friends who keep checking up on me and I so appreciate that. I’m going to give myself a manicure and pedicure tonight while watching baseball, my usual Sunday routine that I have been ignoring for quite a while now.
Love all the pictures!
Becca: thanks for the virtual chicken soup. That stuff cures everything!
Heather: your granddaughter is a doll. All your grands are! I love your attitude towards food! That describes me perfectly, but lately I do not want to cook at all. I’m going to have to reframe my thinking!
Michelle: glad you are feeling better!
Sue: I am so sorry about the loss of your lovely horse! I bet she is galloping away on the other side of that rainbow bridge and is waiting for you!
Penny: wow what a storm! Sounds like a tornado! What kind of weather “badness” do you get there? I’m ignorant…is it tornados, hurricanes? Glad you are safe!
Beth: in the federal prison system they get 15% off for good behavior, but there is no other type of parole. Then they spend about 6 months in a halfway house. So 50 months becomes 43, which then becomes 37 to the halfway house. We plan to ask for supervised detention like he is on now instead for the last 6 months. He doesn’t need the services of the halfway house, like a job and a place to live.
Beth: I missed the story about DH but I am sending prayers for both of you!
Lanette: pooped! That’s hilarious. Glad the fur balls are better!
Welcome Julie!
Rori: I will gladly take you up on your offer! Thank you!
Tere: great plan! You are an inspiration!
Terry VT: living well is the best revenge, isn’t it? I bet it’s gorgeous there right now! I’m glad your relatives in PR are ok. What a horrible storm.
Dr. Katie: who is our resident troll? I have someone who keeps sending friend requests and it’s no one I have ever seen on here anywhere. Thanks for the hug!
Allie: YOU GO GIRL!!! Stop the cooking though! (((hugs)))
DJ: When did you fall? I am glad you are ok other than the glasses!
Kelly: wow you have been through a lot with MIL. I hope she starts to recover soon! How wonderful to have family who care! Take care of yourself too!
M in oz: congrats on the loss!
Josephine: people can be so rude. I’m sorry that happened.
Katla: great movie…I think Borgnine won an academy award for his portrayal.
Dances: welcome! What shall we call you? I couldn’t read your whole screen name.
Julie: welcome. My DH is headed to Wadsworth Ohio tomorrow morning. Is that near you?
Joyce: wow that was an odd thing for church. I hope I get back to feeling like I want to go again.
OK well now it’s raining and I really have to work. Take care all and thanks for ALL the hugs and good wishes! Meg from it-was-sunny-honestly-before Omaha!

Joyce - I think it was Dori who had the unfortunate incident with the possessive/aka stalker type guy. I suppose a good test would be to say "I'm having a colonoscopy next week" and see if he volunteers to be with you during the cleanse, lol.
Hopefully making reservations for the dinner just meant he had some manners and was thoughtful.
Chris, keep us posted!
