I got some bad news and decided to throw myself a three day long pity party...with beer...and pizza...a very, very large pizza. By Wednesday night, I had 2200 surplus calories. But instead of giving in and calling the week a wash, I got my crap together and made better choices. The week is over and I have only 8 surplus calories! So as much as this week SUCKED, I can still call this a maintenance week.51

um, so . . . i'm not sure if this one counts as a victory or a goof. but there was my dad who had that fall and has had these bruised ribs, right?
i've been helicoptering him and his recovery rates, and there was this one day where he's clearly uncomfortable . . . so i reach over and start poking around at the shoulder that he's carrying higher than i think he should.
well, i swear i didn't mean it, but he yelped. i thought i'd hurt him [classy move, me]. but actually he was just incredulous about the strength of my hand.
i want to affirm that my dad might be 92 but he's pretty damn strong himself for someone who's 92. i don't think i broke anything. or at least if i did, he's clearly still talking to me17 -
I saw several family members last night that I haven't seen since early March. Several people did not recognize me. It's only been 25 pounds since then but at 5'2" it is noticeable.17

Last November I ran my very first 5K in 46:37 at 280 pounds. Yesterday I ran the same race to compare stats. I finished in 39:54! I am actually shocked that I finished under 40 min. That's over 2 min faster per mile Oh and I now weigh 213. Had to recreate this pic to celebrate

For most of my life, I have been a rigid perfectionist and excelled in my academic and professional life, yet I was quite miserable and critical of myself. I am slowly recovering through therapy and my newfound faith. My NSV is that I can now celebrate my progress towards creating healthy long-term habits instead of punishing myself until I attained "perfection": perfect calories for the day, perfect body tone, perfect meals, perfect weight, perfect exercise routine/schedule, perfect exercise clothes, perfect running pace, etc. Now, I throw on some tennis shoes after work and run in my work clothes just because I love to run. Now, I focus on healthy, sustainable choices instead of doing the "perfect" healthy thing. This is significant for me!36

We are going to a wedding next weekend so I was trying on some of my old dresses to see if I had anything that fit. Most of my clothes are either too big (I've lost just over 50lbs) or too small (leftovers from the last time I lost a decent amount of weight). I picked up a dress that I thought would be way too small as I bought it when I was at one of my lowest adult weights almost 6 years ago and guess what, IT FIT! I'm still not quite sure how it fit as I'm still about 20lbs heavier than I was when I bought the dress but I was so so pumped and I cannot wait to wear it at the wedding next weekend!29

Zipped up my loooong leather boots that I haven't been able to wear for a couple of years! I felt attractive and accomplished wearing them all day long!25

I find it amazing how awesome a pair of boots can make me feel...especially after being too large for the sexy boot club. Huge congrats!!!8 -

^^ haha!
I ate at maintenance all of last week as a sort of a "diet break". Did not get discouraged about lack of progress. Did not decide to just give up. Still made it to the gym 3 times last week.
Back on the deficit train today. Still on track to lose 50 pounds this year!34 -
So today my daughter and I went to eat lunch with my son at school. He wanted subway and she wanted McDonald’s. Usually I would have probably gotten something at McDonald’s or an unhealthy sandwich at subway because I don’t care for turkey lunch meat or their chicken. Instead I heated up one of my meal prep lunches before hand and it was perfect by the time I ate it at his school. It’s all about staying on track as much as you can and I feel like I won today!20

I went to a family function on Saturday and my grandma was positively gleeful when she went in for a hug and could wrap both of her arms all the way around me.28

I just kicked off a week's break today. Scared because now at the end of the day I 'feel fat', but taking inspiration from you. Will be back on deficit next week I think, and also en route to 50 pounds (but probably not quite by the end of the year like you). Congrats!13 -

@HDBKLM that's awesome! I actually maintained every day except today, which was kind of a bummer, but it's all part of the process. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised about how excited you are to start deficit back up.
I definitely feel more energized and encouraged today!11 -

Did a week break and am up 3 lbs. Still managed a little under maint for the week, so it's water (I do do a lot of carbs).
Sad thing is it bumped me back over a BMI of 30, so I guess I'm obese again.
Back at it as of this morning.14 -

So proud for you! No one can be "feeling it" all the time, the true test is what you do when you're in a down period. You took care of yourself, moderated your eating, and now you're back in the saddle!13 -
Finally made it to normal weight BMI! 24.9!
It's been almost exactly 12 months since last Halloween when I was weighed at the ER when I had my ovarian tumor. My BMI at that type was 41.4 which is class 3 morbid obesity. One month later I had surgery to remove the ovary and was diagnosed with diabetes, which led to my weight loss efforts, and in February I joined MFP. My original goal was just to not be obese, which I made on my birthday in June, and the inspiring people here led me to set a new goal of being normal weight by Christmas. Made it with two months to spare!
I wish I had a before and after picture to share with you, but I was so ashamed of my appearance when I was obese that I don't have a before picture. This picture will have to do - this is me today wearing the clothes I was wearing when I came home from the hospital following my surgery in December, and me in my workout clothes at the gym.
At my highest weight these jeans, which are a 28W, were too tight, and the shirt, which is a 4x, didn't like to stay down over my giant belly. According to my doctor, my ovarian tumor was making my hormones go haywire, which was causing me to put on belly fat disproportionate to the rest of my body. That belly fat has been the last thing to go, and there's still quite a bit of padding and extra skin left over, but my size now is 8 jeans and a medium shirt.
I'm just at the top of healthy weight now and would like to lose a few more pounds, but I am shifting my goal from a scale-based goal to measurement based goals, health based goals, and performance based goals, By my birthday next year I hope to have a waist less than 30 inches. Right now it's 33. At my highest weight it was 48! I hope some day to be able to do an unassisted chin-up. I want to run a 5k in less than 30 minutes. Most of all, I want to remain the sort of person who is athletic and healthy and happy in her body.

When I was flying back home Saturday, I was digging in my bag for something and my wedding ring just slipped off my finger. Since it is really easy to lose things on planes, I had a bit of a panic until I found it on the floor. Need to order something to keep it on my finger.12

I have a few today.
I did a hike I wouldn't have been capable of two months ago, it went up 880ft in elevation in one mile. Honestly, I could have gone to the next peak but my bf started to feel unwell. Oh, and my bf posted a video from the hike on Facebook and there's a shot of my butt. I don't love it but I'm not mortified.
I wore hiking pants I bought a couple of years ago. For some reason I bought them w/o trying them on, they are a size "L", which is meaningless. Anyway, they were too tight and I almost got rid of them several times but held on to them in hopes of losing weight and today they fit! Actually loose in the waist, in fact.
Lastly, today marks 90 days since I've given up 99% of sugar in my diet. That's a huge deal for me, sugar cravings have been hard to control all my life. My friends and co-workers are tired of hearing about it, lol. My next NSV should be turning down a treat without announcing that I don't eat sugar. I may have managed to do that a few times.33 -
Let me preface this by saying that I first started lifting in 1989, so I mostly know what I am doing. But due to injury, then illness, then sloth, it has been about 5 years. I joined the gym in August.
Last night a guy who has appeared to have been lifting for years told me he was impressed that I came regularly, had a regular program, and obviously knew what I was doing.23 -
10km! I can run 10km!
I did C25K in the spring, took July and August off because of the heat, picked the habit back up in the fall and started adding more and more distance to my runs. Then last night I got up to 10km in 64 minutes.37 -
The dress pants that were embarrassingly tight on me and were hidden away in my closet for many months are now the only dress pants that fit me! And today I had to button the extra inside button because they're loose enough that the clasps were slipping apart by themselves!!
I also completed a wellness check for work this past week and was excited to have a normal BMI and blood pressure at 100/70. (A year ago I was consistently in the 140-160/80 range.)
I can put on and take off my rings again. In fact, they slide around like crazy!
It's been a good week!!!

Boss offered my Lindor chocos the other day, I was able to say "no thanks"20

I have a few.
1. I’ve logged for 627 Days now.
2. I’ve been using a free app to help me drink more water and am averaging about eighty ounces of water a day. My goal is 87! I used to drink, maybe, twelve ounces a day.
3. I’ve rewarded myself for 44 pounds lost by getting a gym membership and hiring a personal trainer.
4. I burned my left hand badly last week (second degree) but am still keeping my appointment with my trainer tomorrow. I just sent him a text asking him to switch my exercises to legs for now. I’m mostly lifting weights with some cardio thrown in.
5. I had a patient tell me he could clearly see the weight loss process over the past few weeks.27 -
I lost the weight, and have been pretty successful in keeping it off. The big challenge now is to overcome the "skinny-fat" phenomenon. So at 58 years old I'm trying -- essentially for the first time -- to put on some significant muscle. After 3 years of serious gym-going and a pretty rigorous diet, I have finally, mostly in the last 6 months, begun to see some results -- my pants still fit in the waist, but are beginning to bind in my butt and thighs; and my "slim fit" dress shirts, while also looser in the waist, are actually getting difficult to button across my chest. I never thought I'd celebrate getting bigger, but yay for hypertrophy!28

Happiness is pulling out the corduroys I haven't worn in 8 months & having them fit better than when I bought them at the end of last season:)20

I noticed my neighbor trying to lift his lawnmower onto his trailer so I stopped...it was raining and he was struggling. I said "George, let me give you a hand" and he waved me away and said he will get it "you might hurt yourself" so I laughed and said, really, George stand back and be amazed. LOL. He stepped aside and I lifted that thing with ease up onto the trailer. He just grinned and shook his head and told me to get on my way whilst he licked his ego. LOL48

My NSV for this week is: my snug new pants I bought in September, because the old ones were getting too big, are too big. I hate clothes shopping but I'm looking forward to buying new pants to replace my new pants. Yay!!27
