    Rainy Wednesday today.
We need the rain badly, it has been hot and dry, all the lawns are brown.

I am working today to make up for Monday.
I don't have to,but since I am having my car insurance taken out once a
month now I need the extra. Part-time does not pay very much.
I also have to pay for parking here in the downtown area. Sucks :frown:

I hope it clears up today so I can get my walk in.

So tired today:yawn: Started laundry and ironing last night, of course that
    never ends.

I hope the weather gets better your way, sounds like hot and sticky too and it
    gets real old fast!!

 Barbie, good luck on your move. I bet you are excited.
 Sandy, I hope your sister feels better. Good thing you got her to the hospital. :flowerforyou:

Have a great day ladies. :flowerforyou:

Happy Wednesday!! After a violent storm last night we have sunshine and cooler weather. :flowerforyou:
I went to the casino and held my own, lost a little but not enough to keep me away. :blushing: My sister will get her results today, so say a prayer all is well.

Shirley, sorry about your tummy but glad you got to enjoy at least some of your weekend.

Marie, I am glad you found the problem with your insulin and got yourself back to normal. Stay cool and I wish some of our rain would go your way but not so violent.

Becky, what ages do your eight children range?

Barbie, it won't be long now and you can enjoy the comfort of your new house.

Gayla, I hope your eye clears up soon. I don't think it matters what age our children are, I think we always worry about them. My son is bipolar and whenever he gets extremely stressed I worry so much about him. He is always fine and knows how to take care of himself, but mothers are mothers.

Deb, hello right back at you. I don't think the other Sandi drops by anymore, so I think we should remove her from the birthday list.
We should probably update the list and take off those who no longer visit us.

Jackie, you look much better in your profile picture than you do with driving your dog.

Phoebe, love seeing you back with us, we missed you. Brad had too many problems with the guys he was buying his truck from so he gave it back to them to peruse other adventures, although I think he will still drive a truck.

Going to see my ex mother in law today with my son, she is 95 years young. She loves to play scrabble and/or dominoes so our choice will be dominoes. We will take her to lunch first so it should be a good afternoon.

    Have a great day!!

I've been having a good morning. On Monday's I have chemo, then insomnia all night. ::yawn: : Tuesday's OK, then Tuesday night I slept 10 1/2 hours and woke up feeling great this morning. Went shopping with my daughter for the few things I needed, then we had lunch together at Arby's. Except for white bread, their regular roast beef sandwich is pretty healthy. (and I LOVE their horsey sauce) Oh, yes, not so good: I shared a curly fries with Denise. I haven't had fries for a year.....they were just as I remembered them  . . Once in awhile a girl's gotta' do what a girl's gotta' do!!! (And I only had half a value order.)

Mariah's (5) should be here soon for a couple of hours. Yesterday she was making an avatar (fake person) on the WII. It was really skinny and tall. She said, Granny, do you want this to be you?" I said I did, and she clicked on a button and the avator started getting shorter, then wider. I stayed serious but inside I was cracking up. Those little ones can really call it like it IS.

I really appreciate this thread. I don't usually respond individually, but I do think of all of you and offer prayers for your needs as I read them, as I know you do for me.   God Bless.

Hi all, just wanted to say hello. We're busy getting ready for the move and enjoying summer -Finally! Here's a little something to gnaw on, not all men think like this just the lucky ones.

    Retirement …
One day a man decided to retire. He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to have the time of his life, that is, until the ship sank.
He soon found himself on an island with no other people, no supplies, nothing, only bananas and coconuts.

After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to the shore.
In disbelief, he asks, "Where did you come from? How did you get here?"

She replies, "I rowed over from the other side of the island where I landed when my cruise ship sank."

"Amazing," he notes. "You were really lucky to have a row boat wash up with you."

"Oh, this thing?" explains the woman. "I made the boat out of some raw material I found on the island.
The oars were whittled from gum tree branches. I wove the bottom from palm tree branches, and the sides
and stern came from a Eucalyptus tree."

"But, where did you get the tools?"

"Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman. "On the south side of the island, a very unusual stratum
of alluvial rock is exposed. I found that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into
ductile iron I used that to make tools and used the tools to make the hardware."

    The guy is stunned.

"Let's row over to my place," she says.
So, after a short time of rowing, she soon docks the boat at a small wharf.
As the man looks to shore, he nearly falls off the boat. Before him is a long stone walk leading to an cabin and tree house.
While the woman ties up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemp rope, the man can only stare ahead, dumb struck. As they walk into the house, she says casually,
"It's not much, but I call it home. Sit down, please."

    "Would you like a drink?"

"No! No thank you," the man blurts out, still dazed. "I can't take another drop of coconut juice."

"It's not coconut juice," winks the woman. "I have a still. How would you like a Tropical Spritz?"

Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepts, and they sit down on her couch to talk.
After they exchange their individual survival stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to slip into
something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave? There's a razor in the bathroom cabinet upstairs."

No longer questioning anything, the man goes upstairs into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet is a razor
made from a piece of tortoise bone. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge are fastened on to its end inside a swivel mechanism.

"This woman is amazing," he muses. "What's next?"
When he returns, she greets him wearing nothing
but some small flowers on tiny vines, each strategically positioned, she smelled faintly of gardenias.
She then beckons for him to sit down next to her.

"Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him, "We've both been out here for many months.
You must have been lonely. There's something I'm certain you feel like doing right now, something you've
been longing for, right?" She stares into his eyes.

He can't believe what he's hearing. "You mean..." he swallows excitedly as tears start to form in his eyes,
    "You've built a Golf Course!!! ?"

I will be off the PC most of the day. They told us to conserve energy so I will try to do my part. Just pray we make it thru this heat wave without our losing our power..
alice work of the power co, and she said they had some customers who agreed to have the power cut off for a cheaper rate Well thay did it yesterday and were they yelling. Somehow they can cut your A/C off for 15 minutes and turn it back on in 30 minutes to this group. Anyway the power co.. discontinue this deal just too many complaints.I guess when the agreed to it never dream we will be going thru such a long heat wave.
Will pop back on later tonight after the sun gos down.

Happy Thursday!!!! It is a beautiful day here with temps right now in the 70's. DH will not let me shut the air off but it would feel so good to get some fresh air for a change. I know it is going to get hotter but we have this argument all the time. lol
Rented my son a truck to take his stuff and motorcycle back to Phoenix, we just loaded it and he will soon be going back to his girl and cat to start a new adventure in his life. I hope it all works out for him but I will miss him coming home while he was driving over the road. If things work out for them they will both be driving together and then maybe both will be frequent visitors. (big smile)
Katie my granddaughter who is in the Peace Corps will be going to her permanent place once she is sworn in as a volunteer today.
If you want to read about her adventure you can do so here:

    http://katetravelstheworld.wordpress.com/

I am both proud of her and scared for her, so keep her in your prayers.

My other 21 year old granddaughter will be here tonight with her two friends so our house won't be empty for long. They however are only using my place to crash after long days at lollapalooza. They will leave Monday morning.

I am going to try and make my meeting today, it has been two weeks since I have gone and I don't want to lose my serenity.

    Have a great day!!

:grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: I’m tired of thinking about moving. There’s not much we can do until escrow closes so I’m turning my thoughts to something else.

:flowerforyou: I’m still reading “The Thin Commandments”. The chapter I just finished is about taking charge of your favorite foods. This is a topic frequently debated on MFP. One side says that you shouldn’t eliminate any foods you love because you’ll feel deprived and react by binging. The other side says that it’s best to completely eliminate any food that you think you can’t control. Unless you’re an alcoholic or drug addict and have to completely abstain from these substances, there is a middle ground that will work.

:flowerforyou: The first suggestions for taking charge of your favorite foods is the obvious one about limiting the availability of the food ( don’t buy it, or if you buy it, put it away where you can’t see it, and buy it in small quantities)

:flowerforyou: Next is limiting it to special occasions and being specific about what those occasions are.

:flowerforyou: Take time to be mindful of your past experience with the food. If you can’t remember ever being moderate in the eating of a food, consider staying away from it. Tell yourself “If I don’t begin, then I don’t have a problem”. Many people find it liberating to completely eliminate certain foods.

:flowerforyou: Learn to reward yourself in an adult way with treats that aren’t food.

:flowerforyou: In some cases, the more you eat, the more you crave. Foods like this might be ones you want to eliminate.

:flowerforyou: I am still wrestling with my relationship with peanut butter and almond butter and haven’t found a good solution. I’ve had better results with dessert foods. I stay away from dessert foods, don’t have them in the house, don’t read the dessert menu or walk past the dessert tray, and gave away all my baking equipment. But at our anniversary dinner in a fancy restaurant, I had a decadent dessert and at the Lavender Festival I had lavender ice cream.

:flowerforyou: I know people who can have one bite of ice cream or a sliver of cake but that doesn’t work for me. Each of us has to find what works

Hi everyone. Neil is home and had a mostly wonderful time. The fish didn't bite on his hook but he did get to enjoy fresh fish. One of his group home guys got very sick and was taken to hospital and is still there. Apparently he is improving so glad for that. Neil found the drive very long but then his patience is very short!

It was a lovely day. I did use up some calories doing yard work. I was very thankful to have Dave help me in some of the overgrown shrub beds. They look much better and after another day of work I think they will all be looking good.

My eye is showing a lot of improvement so I guess the drug change was a good one.

Marie -- how are you doing? The heat you are experiencing is too much. Maybe you will have to come North for a break!

Sandy -- how is your sister doing? Sorry things didn't work out for your son. Hope the new plan works out better for him.

Barbie -- you are so disciplined! I am not there yet, not even close but I admire you so much.

Buzz -- I hope your elbow is improving. Did you have a fall?

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

    Happy birthday to you, Judy!

Marie -- your room awaits! I think I will hear your shouts when the skies open up and give you a good soak.

I didn't know that birds are so crazy about herbs. They have been enjoying themselves in my pots of parsley and Rosemary. They aren't doing any real damage so I left them. I may be sorry if I find the plants completely stripped. Neil and I have been enjoying cucumbers. Beans will be ready in a few days and lots of strawberries ripening. Such a great time of year.

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla
