I shall unlurk (delurk?) to share this delightful picture of my 3.5 month old kitten.
Mine is 9 months and when I say he's a handful, I am downplaying it. I have dealt with many a kitten in my time, including his notorious predecessor Dave and nothing comes close to the chaos and carnage the ginger one wreaks.2 -
It's not even unusually cold here, I'm just not up for it yet.
This is like a summary gif: cat, snow, insulating layer of fat, it's what my monkey brain wants me to think

Fungians ლ,ᔑ•ﺪ͟͠•ᔐ.ლSo because I'm terrified of this thread getting derailed from the beautiful love-in of science and ummm eating it currently is I am slamming on the brakes and changing the subject.
I am a week away from my annual "eat at maintenance for the holidays" so my refeed experiment will be ending shortly. I seem to have lost a lb over the month or so I've been doing it, which is cool. I will for sure go back to this pattern of eating 100 cals short of my desired 250 cal deficit during the week and eating maintenance on the weekend once the end of January rolls around. I am also trying to lift heavy things consistently through this maintenance stretch because muscles are purty and I want to continue to lay the groundwork for REALLY building muscle at some point when I'm ready to commit to fueling that sort of thing
I am struggling to hold out until next week to raise my calories, because I am freezing all the time and would love to be fighting that with stew and mac & cheese and hot baked things. Probably not worth the struggle for one more week, but I like tradition and structure dammit.
Sorry to mention the cold Nony! I typically love winter and am miserable during the summer months, but I am feeling the cold more than usual and I'm blaming it on my evolutionary desire to stay warm with some extra fat LOL!
Don't worry about starting maintenance early. Hell, I did it in the middle of this week lol. My body just couldn't handle the overtraining anymore, evidenced by poor recovery, lifts getting weaker, general joint pain. I could also be getting old, but meh. Strategic maintenance/slight surplus is in full effect for the next 3 months. I'm gettin fat y'all! Ha.7 -

An update from me. I wanted to collect more data without Thanksgiving muddying the waters. Another week, another faster than expected loss. I think one more week of this and I'll make definite adjustments.
I'm down a pound a half from my previous low. Which is way too fast for my current weight.
I will also add that I think that this is down partially to implementing this process. It makes weight loss very efficient.
It really does, doesn't it? Please take over as new poster child, since I inadvertently messed up at the last minuteVintageFeline wrote: »Now I'm bitter everyone is getting faster than expected losses. *Wanders off swearing under my breath*
Eczema diet. I'm telling ya.
So I flared big time yesterday. No rash, pred seems to still be holding that at bay (last dose was yesterday morning), but my skin dried out incredibly, and I just hurt - skin, bones, muscles. Ended up just going and curling up on my bed after dinner. I'm going to be super, duper, ridiculously over the top with emollient cream today, total body every few hours and hot spots the second they don't feel greasy.
Have you looked into FODMAPs for eczema?
I have looked into everything for eczema. Trust me.
ETA, sorry if that sounded snippy Sleep deprived, flaring, redhead, all makes for short-fused Nony!!
I'm going on two years of chronic eczema (with life history of sporadic outbreaks). Researcher by nature, researcher by trade, so I have done my homework on this one! What we (I, doctor concurs) have established thus far: chronic eczema probably related to perimenopause; definite seasonal aspect (worse in summer); some food triggers (eggs, tomatoes, gluten); probably a mass of environmental triggers (pollen, also get wicked hay fever now, I live on antihistamines); heat, esp. dry heat, does not help (it hasn't rained here for a month, and it's only just the start of summer). Keeping skin moisturised (ie providing a barrier to the environmentals) is super, super important. I should just fill my tub with emollient cream at this point and stay in there
Ouchie. Hmm.. Have you ever gone all out and water fasted for an extended period?
Funny thing, but I don't recall Nony requesting eczema advise. Advice given that has not been requested is generally not appreciated. Even more so when that advice involves woo solutions like water fasts.
Yeah, I figured I'd covered it with stating I have read everything. Everything. Am a researcher, history, etc.
Oh and just so we're clear, that fuse of mine is at its very end. Suggesting dumb-*kitten* *kitten* to me is not helpful, is insulting to my intelligence, and actually *kitten* offensive.
Friends, please feel free to continue with hugs and sympathy. They are always gratefully accepted, and I hope you all know how very much I appreciate your ongoing support through this.
What fuse? Lmao. You're making yourself angry my dear. Yes fasting may not solve eczema but to totally dismiss cyclic fasting (to various degrees) as beneficial to the body while being a proclaimed researcher is just laughable. No one is saying fasting cures cancer. Stop ttriggering yourself.
So to actually bring science back into this: Show me the peer-reviewed articles showing benefits of water fasting.
And, perhaps check your perspective. Multiple people have (largely) politely told you that it's not helpful, and is actually pretty hurtful. Why do you insist on hammering it anyway, in a thread that is about providing fuel that bodies need instead of starving them?
Be honest, It was over when she declined. It got streeeetched out by yourself and others. And no I'm not pushing starving ones self. I suggested an extreme solution as water fasting (I didn't specify a length. I should've mentioned 1-3 days but that's neither here nor there). My other comment was the dismal of lesser fasting such as (IF) having no physical benefit whatsoever. The only reason I originally suggested water fasting was because that along with taking L-gluatime for 3 days fixed an IBS issue I was previously stuck with.
Do you understand how internet forums work? People come onto them at various times as there schedules permit and respond as they read along.
It's helpful if you keep that in mind.
Also? IBS in no way relates to an autoimmune issue like eczema. I won't even bother addressing your other claims in the interest of no longer further derailing the thread.
Please, you have nothing productive to offer on topic, which is the subject of adaptation to dieting. Fasting is the polar opposite of the subject of this thread.
Lol, cheer up and stop holding bitterness deep in your soul. There's no need to type your twisted rage to a stranger . I'm hardly likely to treat you with respect if you keep talking in that manner.
I'll leave you guys to it. Apologies for remixing the thread dear researches. It's been fun.9 -
Looks like catmas came early for the interwebz.8 -

I've adopted four adult or adolescent cats in a row, and not too long after number three died had the opportunity to go kitten for the first time in my adult life. This is hysterical!
And I believe the appropriate term is "delurk". Though it still gets the red squiggly line. Dr. Google tells me delurk be a word.6 -
My eldest two are litter mates, so had each other for amusement. Highly recommend. Toby was probably under a year old when he turned up, but of course would not come near me at all for a while, and then only ever got to letting me sit 0.5-1m away while he ate, very occasionally he would sniff my fingers if I held my hand out. I always said to him (and everybody) that I was sure he was a very sweet cat, and I was right. Loviest little lovebug4

I had a low appetite the past four days, so I took advantage and had a steep enough deficit so that I could have a 3 day refeed this weekend5

Even my cat friends can't get over how wild he is. People have suggested I create him his own Facebook page. He breaks things all the time, swings off things, climbs things. It's like someone took your regular playful kitten and made him 100x that. I like to think Dave sent him and is having a jolly old laugh because I had the audacity to complain about him. Look who's laughing now eh Dave!
He is currently under the quilt trying to dig to somewhere only he knows.
Bear in mind, he's a kitten, this thing is heavy, 7.5kg of Dave didn't move this thing and yet, I hear a crash and get up to find...............broken stuff everywhere. Oh and you will notice to the right is the gym mat he's adopted.........

I have no animal pictures to share - we're more dog than cat people, and don't have the right environment or time for the dog we'd love (Alaska malamute)....
I had terrible luck with kittens when I was younger - I had 3 at separate times, (willow, catkin and champagne)... They all ended up getting out and meeting their fate on the road. Champagne used to be our dogs best friend (a giant newfoundland called Nelson) - they would chase each other round the garden and sleep curled up together.
On topic.... Is it weird if I am getting antsy about still eating at maintenance? I just want to see how I react to deficit again! Haha. I shouldn't complain, I'm enjoying the extra carbs.
Nony, I'm with you on the heat - we've had a few days in the mid-30s. Urgh. Going outside is awful - I had been enjoying jogs/walks to the shops, but it's even too warm at 7/8am for that.2 -
The twins have FB pages, so Horatio can friend them when he gets his2

I'm not sure I'm ready for the commitment, though it would probably be a blessing to some folks on my friends list who are sick of me talking about him!0 -

Yeah, I'm wondering how long I can go trying to eat to TDEE every day before defaulting to more cals on weekends, which used to work, cos drinking, but I don't really drink anymore, so...and now because I'm not hungover I hike and burn a billion calories, which is hard enough to eat some days as it is let alone trying to go over! I also don't know how that affects recomp/muscle building, if I'm essentially at a deficit five days and surplus two.
This heat in January/Feb we'd be going 'well this is quite pleasant!', but we've had no time to acclimatise. And dry. So, so dry. We damn well better get that rain tomorrow.1 -

If it helps, mine never even check theirs anymore . Mario's was actually set up by my friend when I moved to Aus (briefly) b/c she missed him. Got a PM one day with log in details for my cat's account1 -

It would be a page not a profile. If FB catches those profiles they get nuked (against T&Cs, people used to do it for businesses, a friend lost about 2000 contacts getting it nuked a couple years ago).0 -
With all of this maintenance talk, I'm thinking ahead to when I want to time my diet break. I'm not all too sure I want to time it precisely with Christmas itself. Or maybe I do. I was hoping to do Christmas as a one off day like I did with Thanksgiving and then go back to regular pattern, let the scale settle, and then do a diet break.
The thing is though, that it's been a while since diet break. I don't know. It's a bit hard for me to even pin down numbers at this point. I might just give it a whirl after all, but might not even come close to achieving a true diet break since my numbers seem to be off anyway.
Decisions, decisions.1 -
I'm going with 22nd to new year's eve. Maintenance mostly with two or three "free" days. But I am hanging for it. Probably because I do it every year I get all restless waiting for it. Same when I go on holiday (I don't log at all on holiday).1

I need the free day on Christmas. My problem with my free day is that I can really throw down. But then again, I did that on Thanksgiving and it doesn't seem to have done me any harm.
It's just the brain hamsters with the subsequent scale fall out, you know? After what I've dealt with the past year, I'm still a bit touchy in that area.
I know my husband and kids will get me some treats in my stocking, and it would be nice to just ease up a bit and eat to maintenance. Especially since my NEAT will likely increase.
I think I'll have a better feel for it as the holiday gets closer.0
