I do my own baking and discovered with most recipes you can drop fats and sugars a half to 2/3 and still have a good recipe. For fats and oils, I substitute yogurt or unsweetened applesauce. Believe it or not I can make 115 to 125 calorie cinnamon roll by tweaking the recipe and using applesauce instead of butter for the smear.6

I guess I'm the odd one here, but I'm not around a lot of sweets. I used to do a lot of baking during the winter in general but the small amount I do to take a dessert somewhere, I just don't have any of it3

Haven't jumped in awhile! Just wanted to say what an amazing group of people. Very inspirational! Haven't lost weight yet but know that I will and seeing all the success that 60+ folks have really helps. I am convinced my extra 20 pounds is wreaking havoc on my joints and I refuse to start hobbling! Happy holidays to all my MFP friends!!8

Newbie here. I am 64 and struggling to lose during the holidays and colder weather. Love yoga and walking. I lift weights several times a week. Figured tracking what I eat could help move things along!6

If I knew how to post a photo I would. I've lost 52.5 lbs since I started my journey on March 22, 2017. Just turned 60 and feel better now than I did at 45. I dropped from a size 2x to wearing medium scrubs and even size 12 jeans. I love to do zumba, which I do 3 times a week. I have more energy now and loving it. I still want to loose another 20 lbs.16

19teri, Wouldn't worry abt trying to lose over the holidays; just try to maintain and enjoy some of the eats (w/o going overboard too much). Keep up w/the exercising and as much as possible, your normal routine. That way you will not quite as stressed and enjoy yourself more. It's all abt a lifestyle, not a "diet" with an end date. Make changes you can life with for the rest of your life; so if you want a hamburger & fries, just have it and get back to your regular eating. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy yourself!!1

@19teri53 Welcome! For me, tracking has been key! It definitely makes you aware of exactly how many calories are in the food you’re putting in your mouth and makes you think twice about whether or not it’s worth it! For me, I had to decide that when I’m out of calories, I’m done eating for the day and I didn’t trust myself enough at the beginning to input exercise because I didn’t want to eat the extra calories. Just remember, you will make mistakes and overeat, but tomorrow is a new day. Just forgive yourself and begin again. Every day is a new day! Be kind to yourself! You are worth this effort!
@gailballs1031 You have got this! Great work so far!
Here in the US, it is the first day of winter and therefore the shortest day of the year. And in Kansas, oh baby it’s getting cold outside! Wishing you each a wonderful holiday season and a new year filled with many successes!2 -
Have finally caught up reading this thread and wanted to thank everyone for their inspiration! I am 53 (54 in Jan) and enjoy reading about everyone's success and workarounds.3

Hello-to all of the newbies- this is an incredible thread- You will lose the weight- it just takes time and patience- and determination. I have almost almost 20 pounds. I have about 9 more to go- but I am taking my time and living my life(enjoying some exercise and a few treats along the way) life is too short to stress it- weight loss will happen with consistency!9

Wishing all of you a very Happy Hanukah or a very Merry Christmas.............let's just celebrate!
Some of you know we moved my sister in with us over the Labor Day Weekend, she has cancer and is now on Hospice. It's a very sad moment in time for me but as things seem to work according to a more divine plan, we welcomed our new little grandson into the world 3 weeks early on Thanksgiving Eve.
My goal is to remain strong AND healthy for him and my daughter. They live in CO and I live in CA so lots of airplane trips back and forth are in my future as well as mountain hikes, it's what we do........LOL
Sharing a couple of pics just because he's so cute and so appreciated!

@luluinca: I'm not a demonstrative woman, nor a spiritual one. Nonetheless, bless you. You are acting the heart of what is most human.
Thank you for nurturing your sister, and that sweet, promising baby.

@1Nana2many, thanks, our daughter waited a long time for this and we're all just thrilled. Nothing like new grandkids to keep us motivated!2
