So 7 miles running yesterday and a 5 mile hike today. Lots of ice all over the sidewalks. Running would have been treacherous.
The company party was, as usual, excruciating. The food was good though. And the free wine.4 -
5k done in 27:15 today. That gets me to 27.9 for the month. Tomorrow will be a rest day because we're headed down to the tx/ok border to meet a friend from Canada. Long story. We'll be driving past you, @Elise4270 !4

@skippygirlsmom Ugh, insurance companies suck at the best of times, and even more so when you're not at fault. A little late now, but a relatively cheap safeguard (for any future possible incidents) is to have a dash-cam mounted; that usually sorts out those drivers that tend to have a preference for alternative facts on their claims.1

Christmas music running playlist (mostly uptempo songs) in Google Play Music, so here is the link if you have an interest: Rus' Christmas Playlist -- these are in no particular order, though mostly alpha by song title, so in my opinion, best to listen to in shuffle mode...

@karllundy If you have deep butt pain, in the piriformis area, you might research DGS. The diagnostic tool is an EMG, and a special MRI t3 I think..
My case was caused by a blood vessel, I guess wrapped around somewhere, as well as 3 nerve branches tethering the sciatic nerve. My guy, Hal Martin, has publications on the matter. I'm part of his next study group... My posterior is a fascinating statistic.
So sometimes, no amount of PT and dedication to rehab will fix it.
Ha, Ha....that made me LOL! What some people will do to be "published". Quite seriously, I hope that this is the answer for you. You have dealt with a lot of injuries.
Will try to catch up with reading posts this weekend.
I don't understand why it made you laugh. DGS is something relatively new. I've visited doctors that had never heard of it, one told me it didn't exist. Which is why I spent 3.5 years looking for answers and help, only left to suffer nerve damage because it went undiagnosed.
The point of the publications is to offer education to the patient as well as other upcoming surgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of unidentified medical issues. The publication also allows one to scrutinize the validity of the information gained in the study. I'm happy to contribute as a case successful managed so the next runner finds help.2 -
12/15: 5 miles running, 2 miles walking.
Today is an anniversary for me - this time last year I was in the hospital having a giant ovarian tumor (benign) and one ovary removed. Although it was pretty awful at the time, it ended up being a blessing in the long run, because that was the first time any doctors took me seriously when I tried to tell them how bad I felt. Not only did I have an eleven cm tumor pressing on my intestines and causing me constant discomfort, the hormones it pumped out were also causing my adrenal and cortisol levels to freak out, and I had undiagnosed diabetes. By the time the tumor caused a torsion before being taken out, I felt so terrible that I had stopped even getting out of bed most days and had dropped twenty-five pounds in a month while eating everything in sight due to my cortisol levels being so high that my insulin couldn't do its job.
At that time I pretty much thought I was dying and that no one was ever going to help me. Which came disturbingly close to being the case - I would have been turned away from the ER with a dead and rotting ovary if it were not for one very compassionate doctor who called a friend of his, got him out of bed when he wasn't on call, and got him to come down with some real expertise and get me admitted. I said, everyone keeps saying that tests say I don't have a torsion, so why does it hurt so much? and he explained that the tests they were giving me were not appropriate for diagnosing ovarian torsion. So, anyway, God bless competent doctors!
What a difference a year makes. A year ago I was in such bad health that I literally couldn't walk to my mailbox without getting exhausted. Now I can run five miles.

I wish I could tell you there are great places to eat in in the area! But all of them are mediocre. Safe travels!
It's nice out today, sunny hanging about 60f (15c). I think I'll get in a run. Get my *kitten* together and impliment a prehab plan.
ETA OMG @rheddmobile . I'm so happy you found help when you did. I can only imagine the pain with the ovary. I had a follicular cyst on one years ago and it sent me to the ER throwing up in pain. I couldn't move it hurt so bad. The sent me home after some iv pain meds and a hormone injection to rupture the cyst. Told me I could stay on birth control to prevent them.
That's probably the worst pain I've ever felt. I had 3 days of it. I can't imagine a month or more of it.
Thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing when someone has overcome obstacles, or beat the odds. ((Hugs))!
You're my hero/inspiration today.1 -
@rheddmobile, wow, what a horrible experience you had! What an ordeal. So glad that is behind you and you are doing well.
@elise4270 I'm glad to hear you have surgery scheduled and hope this will be a great resolution to the ongoing pain you've had.
@RunsOnEspresso hope you have a fun trail race today!
Lots that I read through, sorry not to comment on all the stuff going on. Wishing everyone good recovery from injuries, and the rest of you stay injury free and warm!

Unintentional two rest days after getting back from DC, having to catch up at work. Long run this morning was pretty cold. Said it was 21 degrees F but the "feels like" temp was 12 or so. Ran the roads because the trails were snowy, and it was more hills than I bargained for. Glad to have that done.
Edit to add: By the way, I've meant to mention - was it @rusgolden who was asking about an app that would give turn by turn directions while running? Did you already do your Boston trip? I found an app called RunGo that seems to do that. You have to subscribe for much of the content but there were some that could be done for free. I used it for a run in Georgetown and it worked pretty well. Seems to have quite a few routes in big cities at least.3 -

Today's notes: Today's assignment was run 45 minutes easy pace, turn around and try to get back to the start in 40 minutes. I'm seriously starting to get annoyed with the snow. Fresh, loose snow is not easy to run on. I think I made it like 2.98 miles before the turn around alert.
The way back was aided by a big downhill that helped me get my speed up, but the loose snow on the switchbacks meant that I couldn't totally open up the throttle on the downhill. I ended up getting back to the start at 1:24:03, so I managed to do it in under 20, but it wasn't as good as I wanted.
The run felt harder than my HR data would lead me tho think it was so, despite making it through the workout in the prescribed time, I'm still disappointed that I didn't get further, when I know I could have on clear trails.

@rheddmobile wow – so glad you were able to find a doctor who took you serious enough to continue to find the answer. Those are a rare blessing. I had something similar with my gallbladder I hurt in doubled over pain every time I ate, I was at the point I was afraid to eat. Finally my primary who was sure it was bad sent me to surgeon who took it out even though all tests showed it was okay, turns out the tests were wrong and it was bad and needed to come out.
@RunsonEspresso haha on the bagel – how was it?
@PastorVincent I heard the movie was great.
Skip and her friend ran a Rudolph 5K this morning, it was 24F when they left the house and she said 4 or 5 guys were running in front of them in just speedos. I was dying laughing, she said finally her friend said I can’t do this anymore can we pass them ha ha Skip said it was fun to run for fun and talk and have a good time. They still finished in a "slow" 26 minutes... that was a quote "slow". They didn't think to look at the age awards, guess that meant they were having too much fun.

I didn't get any workouts in this week. I need to get my *kitten* together. Workouts and diet are all over the place and it showed in today's race.
First I started out too fast, my own fault. I even saw my pace on my watch and knew I needed to slow down but I felt freaking fantastic. Around mile 3 I totally hit the wall. I walked *most* of the last bit. When the finish line was in sight I started a slow run for the last .25-.35. I finished in just under an hour. I saw the clock said 59:-something. I didn't start or stop my watch right away because I forgot I put a lock on it. LOL My watch said 59:07. I am just happy to finish! Oh, and my elevation for this was 213. I know it's not crazy like some of you but remember... my average run is 13-16. HAH Looks like the lowest point was 1450 and highest 1640.
The spring version of the race is the reverse of this course so that high elevation will be at the end. I've got a few months to prepare.4 -
@skippygirlsmom Overall the bagel was good. There were a couple spots of freezer burn though. The downside of gluten-free bread, most come in the freezer section.2
