It does not help that the GF section of Walmart is like 80% different kinds of cookies. Enjoy Life is another brand I am required to only bring preportioned packs to work.
I'm glad that the brownie bites from Canyon Bakehouse are mail order only. Although the kinnikinnick donuts in the freezer section are hard to resist too
@greenolivetree I've found the Kroger or Barilla brands to be most like regular pasta. The issue is the leftovers suck. They get all mushy & fall apart.0 -

Sadly, I have brownie bites in my cabinet...a 45 min drive away from me and Barilla is what we use too. Not horrible.1 -

Agreed. I like the corn based pasta better than rice, but none of them are good on day two.
The Kinnikinnick pizza crusts are really good too.0 -

Another "rest" day for me yesterday and probably today... This -20C weather is really messing with my running schedule... on the bright side, it means I've been able to make 2 out of 5 Christmas presents for my family, and I've started 3 and 4!2

I haven't tried their pizza crust but I think my grocery store has started carrying it. I'll have to pick it up.0 -

I didn’t log on over the weekend and it has taken me until today to catch up on the posts! Snowball effect.
@ddmom0811 – In what part of Virginia does your mom live? I’m down in the southwestern corner of the state.
@WandaVaughn – That is some awesome weight loss! I bet your doctor was talking about you for the rest of the day!
@JessicaMcB – Wowzer! I was worried about my goal being 110 for the entire month! Amazing that you did 100 miles solo! How do you entertain yourself for 16 hours out there by yourself? Hope Mia is feeling better.
@katharmonic – Your runs in DC sound fun! I love running in new places and getting some sightseeing in at the same time.
@bashincenters – Praying for you, your family and neighbors. I hope the fires are under control and out soon.
@veronicav0502 – Welcome!
@Elise4270 – Glad you have a plan for surgery and recovery!
@amymoreorless – Congratulations on your marathon!
@skippygirlsmom – I bought a cheap pair of tights at Academy over Thanksgiving and I love them also – great fit!
@lporter229 – I love Tony Horton! He’s a bit corny but he makes me laugh.
@fitoverfortymom – Great job with your HM PR!

Do not understand the treadmill hate. I run almost exclusively on it during the winter and I do not mind it at all, so long as I have something to occupy my brain while I run. Hence my current addiction to The Great British Baking Show.
I'm also a little weird in that I hate being around people, so if I can get my miles done in the comfort of my own home, all the better.5 -
No way am I running today. It is too damn cold.
Tomorrow I will run laps in a gym. I will run dozens of laps. Possibly hundreds. I will be bored out of my mind.
@RespectTheKitty I find that treadmills have no 'give'. I'm used to running on dirt, grass, or gravel. Also, I can't vary my pace as I can while running outside... poking at buttons doesn't work as well for me. That said, I wish I had access to one this winter.3 -
@RespectTheKitty , I also love the treadmill--love how I can zone out. I just bought a refurbished Path and I love love love it!! (Can you tell I'm excited?)0 -

I think it's because I would much rather have terrain differentiation, hard tech, and strategic calls to occupy my mind with than an episode of Scandal. Don't get me wrong, love Scandal lol, but when I run I want to immersed in the minutia of running. I just can't get that on the misery mill.
FWIW though you are the normal one if we gauge by female I runners I know in town- they all live to binge watch shows on the mill!0 -
@seanevan10 "Welcome to our Home" wall plaques. I'm staining pine boards with Minwax then using a stencil and paint for the words. I then need to varathane it like 3 times.2

Got in another 5k today, this time in 29:25. Pretty consistent all around so far this month. That puts me at 24.8 miles of my 50 mile goal, so I'm right on track.
I've told myself that if I can drop below 165 lbs (and stay there) by the end of the year, I'll consider myself on the right track and will sign up for the September marathon I've got my eye on. I just want to be confident that I'll lose enough in the next couple of months to start running longer miles without so much wear and tear on my legs! As of this morning, I was at 166lbs flat, so I think it's doable...6 -
My wedding anniversary is in May and the husband and I are spending it in one of our favourite places - Martha's Vineyard. And it just so happens that there is a half marathon there the same weekend. Hell yeah I've registered!15

December goal: 75 miles
12/3: 9.1 miles
12/5: 3.1 miles (intervals)
12/6: 4.2 miles
12/8: 4.1 miles
12/10: 8.1 miles
12/12: 4.2 miles
12/13: 4.2 miles
12/14: 3.1 miles (intervals)
40.1/75 miles
Today was a really stressful day. I ended up going to the track with my husband and running intervals while he did c25k week 6 day 3. It was hard, but I really needed it and I was glad I got it done. The temp was 58°F, but a 20 mph norrh wind made it seem much colder.
I'm over half way to my goal this month. Hopefully I will be able to get all my runs in Christmas week. I will probably have to do some rearranging of my schedule.

@MNLittleFinn snow I'll run in but slush no way.
@ceciliaslater you got this.
@BruinsGal_91 only thing I can't think of better than a half marathon on the vineyard is 9 wins out of 11 for those B's How we liking Tuka Task now?
@RespectTheKitty while I love the runs in the outside air, I don't see the treadmill as the instrument of Satan others On this post do. It can be boring but I appreciate the pace being set and that you can have a conistent uphill run if you desire.
On a personal note, I've gotten a little gun shy about my winter runs. Last year I would go out and not even consider the ice and snow and potential for slipping or falling but this year the fear is definately in play. I was able to run later this am due to a doctor's appointment and it was big difference running with the sunshine. Trying to get in an 8 tomorrow and hoping for at least 12 on Saturday. On the upside, it looking like my best month since my marathon. Hoping for full on 10k training in January.

@RespectTheKitty @cburke8909 I am not ashamed to say I love my treadmill. And at this time of year it gets a lot of use. I've had a couple of scary encounters with black ice, so I'm more than happy to stick some sport on the TV and crank out the miles in my basement.
Tuukka had a bit of a shaky start this season but he's looking pretty good now. It's my husband's birthday tomorrow and I've got tickets to watch the B's play the Rangers on Saturday night.0 -
Club run tonight.
I mostly went out with them because I'd bought a load of cheese from one of the group. No that's not true, I WANTED to run with them, it's been an age. So long, in fact, that I think the last club run I did was from the same location. Last time I bailed early, then got terribly lost finding my way home in an 'area I knew well', ran random woods, climbed over a wall to get back on track finally, and arrived back to the pub at the same time as everyone else, having actually done the same distance, despite leaving early, THEN HID SO AS NOT TO BE SEEN AND FESS UP MY CRAPPINESS.
This time was fine. I even ended up sheepdogging, which is when the runners at the front run to the back while everyone else catches up. There was a lot of mud. Mud is best when it is sloppy, and freezing cold so it makes your eyes pop out and you adjust to the whole squelchy foot thing. Then the mud warms up, drains out, and you get to start again with the next deep puddle.
Part of the fun of tonight's run was the 'sloe gin stop'. Wow. I've never tried sloe gin that good. And homemade snacks. That's a good run, when you get a little pick-me-up part way through.
Good to be back running with the club again. They might inspire me to great things. Or just provide cheese. Either is good.5 -

So...
The dreadmill at my gym is kind of cool. I pick a famous trail, like, Grand Staircase Hike, and then tell it I want "average 7% grade" - it then turns on a fan puts up a video of the trail and when the trail goes up, the dreadmill increases grade, when the trail goes down, it decreases trail. It also pops up factoids about the trail. Dreadmills can not go downhill, but when you have been running at a 9% grade, and it drops to 3% it almost feels like downhill!
My dread mill at home has no fan, no video, no "average grade" and the belt sometimes slips under my stride. It literally feels like running in place, in a cloud of CO2, like I am some poor Sisyphus wannabe.
Even with the fancy pants dreadmill, the problem comes in with the lack of variation. So like if I am running along at 6.75mph and want to stop to take a drink, loosen a shoe, or something, then restart at 6.5mph, on the dreadmill that is lots of extra work completely breaking me out of the zone. Or if I want to slow down on an uphill, or speed up on a downhill, or just vary my pace at all, that really does not work on the dreadmill. Also if I want to get off the hard street and run in the dirt or grass for a bit that also does not work.
Plus you run for hours and quite literally go nowhere at all. Psychologically that is hard to swallow.
I would still rather do the dreadmill than the 1/12th mile indoor track I have access to!

So, of course, I ran outside. I had some new coldkit pieces to test.
Before starting my run, this is what the trail looked like:
No one had run the trails ALL day. Seriously, the snow stopped sometime in the midmorning, and I went out early afternoon and there were only animal tracks.
Temp was 17F with 11mph wind according to Weather Channel app, but it is always far windier at this location than predicted. So I put on my new UA Infrared Cold Gear hood, my jacket, my gloves, my wool darn tough socks, my wool beanie, and hit the trail.
The moment I stepped outside, my fingers INSIDE my gloves were already cold. I knew I would not make it 1/2 mile without issues, BUT I had scored 12 pairs of hand warmers for free (well with rewards points) so I activated a set and put one in each glove. Ahhhhhhh warmth.
I figure I was running in about 3 inches of snow. I always tuck my pants into my socks so no snow got in. Wind was in my face, so pulled up the face part of the hood and trecked along.
Afer a while I got pretty hot, pulled down the face and was blasted with cold wind on my wet face for a while, then pulled it back up until I got hot and pulled down the face and was blasted with cold wind on my wet face for a while, then pulled it back up until I got hot and pulled down the face and was blasted with cold wind on my wet face for a while... I think you can see how that went.
About a mile in my hands were sweating, so I left the heater in and stuck my fingers out into the fingers part of the gloves. They almost instantly froze, so decided to stick with toasty fingers. I did not want to even think about taking the gloves off to pull out the heater.
It all went well, until I was almost back and saw I was at 9.5 miles and decided to take the long way back through the trails. Well running UP hill in ankle deep snow was no big thing... but running downhill was a bit different. I came around the corner at a faster speed (for fast finish) and hit the snow and started sliding (I am in street shoes...). Wee! I was not smart enough to slow down, I just somehow managed not to fall on my bottom.
So 10 miles, in 3 inches of snow. Was plenty warm. I think I could easily drop another 10 or 15 degrees. The only problem is hand warmers are a $1 per pair. So need to see what other options I have. Ordered a mitten thingy (mentioned up thread a few times) to see if that would work. If not, I can just buy hand warmers for when its cold.
On the way home I picked up a fleece pullover that I am hoping can give me different layering options (add it to current coldkit for really cold days, or sub it in instead of the jacket for not so cold days, etc).
Any which way, I am feeling more positive about winter training this year than I have ever before. All it takes is $100s of dollars of gear! (I have to laugh, so I do not cry! )7 -
Well... the new iPhone lock up when you are driving thing, has thought I was “driving” while on the dreadmill at this hotel twice now. So, 1, I now truly don’t understand how it decides that- as I didn’t even have a tracker going, and the phone was stationary, and 2 maybe it’s trying to convince me I’m going somewhere.
But the point of this story/tangent is that apple apparently disagrees with all of us who say treadmills involve going nowhere- apparently we are going somewhere fast enough to be “driving”
In other news, yes, I “ran” again. (or apparently drove??) Figure I better milk my stubbornness and stupidity for all I can before I get a newly issued “thou shalt not run” order next week. Still as slow or slower than a fast walk, but I’m trying to keep some intelligence about it.
3.25=6.5 for the month.
We will see tomorrow if today’s dumbness is any more forgiving than than the last round.5 -
12/1 9.75mi
12/2 4mi
12/3 rest
12/4 4mi
12/5 6mi
12/6 5.64mi
12/7 10mi
12/8 4mi
12/9 4.3mi
12/10 rest
12/11 5.5mi
12/12 4mi
12/13 9.25mi
12/14 3.31mi
Another 3 miles on the treadmill. Not because it was too cold but because my little one is tired of going to the childcare at the gym. I figured I could tough out 3 on the treadmill so she could stay home
10 miles planned for tomorrow. I think I’ll drive out to the state park and run the trails. I figure it’s good cross training.
My 1st grader had his Christmas concert tonight and one of his classmates puked in the middle of it! No matter how much you plan, kids make life SO unpredictable!! I felt bad for the little girl, but I couldn’t stop laughing.4 -

You can disable that feature... was like the very first thing I did.0 -
So if you don't have a phone and your Garmin watch battery died, does the really hard, hour long group track workout actually happen? I got no stats for you. Just glad I didn't die. Soaking in an Epson salt tub now. Ouch.7

Obviously not.

You all are so inspiring. I am still on track for my goal and am already trying to decide on my goal for next month.
