@7lenny7 I hope the knee is an easy fix. I’m sorry about Mom, it’s hard when they get older. Spaghetti, birthday cake, wine and beer sounds about perfect to me.
@ceciliaslater has the shin been an issue since you started on the treadmill? Skip orthopedic as adamant for her to stay off the treadmill when she complained about her shins.

@penko47 and @rolaasad Welcome to this group, and happy running
@juliet3455 Full Moon Night run sounds lovely!
@ddmom0811 It's really impressive that you keep the run streak up on days with so much cycling!
@JessicaMcB Around here, the deer aren't as brave and run away when they notice me. I never realised I should be grateful for that
@bossymom15 Where I live, the sun set at 4:50 today... I was so happy on the weekend when I could run during daylight hours! Still, with all the Christmas decoration people put up, at least I've got a lot of festive lights to look at when I'm running in the dark during the week.
@seanevan10 Great that you are feeling well enough to run again!
@skippygirlsmom that calorie burn for a 7mi run would be really depressing if it were true!
@PastorVincent Awesome photo
@WandaVaughn Great photos! And that elevation sounds impressive.
@girlinahat Yay, glad to know I'm not the only one who sometimes goes WHEEEEE while running

So, I've had these running pants that I liked a lot. I bought them in 2014 when I started running again, and have worn it from my first 5k until my first marathon. At one point I had to admit it was worn out: my legs ain't what you'd call skinny, so my thighs touch as I run, and the pants material suffered in these places and got more and more threadbare. About one year ago I bought new pants from the same company (UA), same size - only those where a lot shorter! Ridiculously so, they didn't even reach my ankles; super annoying!
Sunday evening I finally did what I should have done a year ago and combined the two pants, cutting them both below the knee and sewing the well-preserved lower legs from the old ones to the upper part from the new short ones. And voilà: new hole-free and sufficiently long pants that I tested on a short run tonight
On another note, I have to admit I've gotten lazy about stretching recently. So my extra challenge for this month will be: do 5-10 minutes of yoga or stretching every evening. So far, so good... 3/31.

@_nikkiwolf_ I like the look of the pants. combining the 2 pairs was a great idea1
-
@_nikkiwolf_ I need to do the same thing with stretching. I have not been doing my PT as much and I would love to get back into Yoga more.1
-
Ran 5 miles today. Total for December: 16 miles. 84 more to go1
-
@_nikkiwolf_ I love the pants like that too. I would have never known they didn't come that way. I was laughing when I saw the calorie count. My friends think that running 2 miles burns like 500 calories so they would die if they saw that.1

December Running Totals (miles)
12/1 – rest day
12/2 – rest day
12/3 – rest day
12/4 – 3.10 easy
December running total to date – 3.10
Nominal challenge goal: 80 miles
Real goals: Get healthy. Run 8K of cross country at Club Nationals on December 9. We don't need no steenkin' speed goals, just finish the race.
Today's notes – Where I left off my story last month, I ran 1 mile on November 30 and concluded that was too soon to come back. I resolved to start December with at least 3 rest days, and to take a rest day the first day I really felt like I could run.
Yesterday I really felt like I could run. I *almost* talked myself into going out for an easy 3 miles in the afternoon; then I thought about that mile on Thursday, turned on the NFL, and went for a nice 3+ mile walk when the Patriots-Bills game went to half time. Got back, and the second half had proceeded about the way I expected it to. I've lived in upstate NY for 26 years, and I'm thankful I never really became a Bills fan.
So this morning everything felt perfectly normal. Forecast was for great running weather in the afternoon, so I got out about 3:30. The plan was to run a fairly flat 5K route, and run no further no matter how good I felt. Well, I could feel the hurt thigh/quad/whatever it is from the first step. The ache faded and strengthened throughout the run; absent a race next Saturday, I might have decided to call it quits at 2 miles. But I kept going for the entire planned route. Got to 3 miles, and it was clear that 5 miles would be a bad idea; picked up the pace for that last tenth of a mile, but the leg wasn't really up to doing a true stride. Came in, stretched, and rolled it out. I feel the hurt spot walking now, though not as bad as before I rolled it. Tomorrow I'll find out whether I pushed too hard today.
On the bright side, I was able to run far enough to work up a sweat. It feels more like a real run if I've done enough to be worth stretching and showering. It would have been a really pleasant run if I had been totally healthy; from a cardio perspective, I could have gone for 10 miles. Oh, well. Running for 24 minutes beats not running at all, by a wide margin.

@skippygirlsmom - it's been a problem ever since I stubbornly ran on one of the "no" treadmills a couple weeks ago. My shin burned at first, but I pushed through, and the burning subsided. But when I finished the 3 miles and stopped, I could barely walk. My right foot was just kind of flopping, like my shin had gone numb and the muscle was not able to properly point and flex the toes. Next day, I had a sore spot on the inside of my lower leg, and that's what's still a little tender. Running on one of the good treadmills does not aggravate it, so I will stick to them or go outside from now on...0
-
Dec. 4 - 7km walk. Lots of Christmas lights and yard decorations.
MTD - 12km/60km2 -
Oh, and I did my 5k on a good treadmill after work. No issues at all, and finished in about 28:30. If I included my cool down jog at 5mph, i actually ran 3.5 miles. But I'll just stick with calling it 3.1 so I don't end up letting myself out of one of my 17 required 5Ks for the month...
6.2 of 50 miles complete.
Side note: how do I force my stupid Garmin to recalibrate for treadmill running? It thinks I'm doing 12 minute miles when I'm actually doing 9s... It's a vivoactive 3. I'll do some research myself on Google, but if anyone knows offhand, I'd appreciate the info0 -
Decembber goal: Keep kicking at Zumbro training
Nominal mileage goal: Let's say 120?? I really don't know. Going for like 70% trail
12/1- 7.2
12/2- 8.2
12/3- 9.5
12/4- 5.8
Total: 16.7
Today's notes: Today was supposed to be a rest day. Then the over night winter storm watch turned to a warning with 4-7 inches of snow and wind gusting up to 40mph...... With snow and heavy wind right when I'd normally be running in the morning..... So I got kitted up and went out to get in tomorrow's hill repeats tonight. Assignment was 5x2minute hill repeats with recovery being whatever time it took to get back to the bottom of the hill. I averaged 7:11 pace on the reps with, oddly, my first rep the slowest and my last the fastest... Good way to end the run.....
.... So now I'll be taking a "rest" day tomorrow, getting up at 0445 to try to shovel, assuming there's enough snow.... with my luck, We won't get the storm, and I'll have squandered my rest day for nothing...
Hope everyone had a Runderful day!

December goal = 93 miles
Late getting out of work today, so I couldn't get to my run group workout. I decided to "keep my options open" and take the route home which goes past the Y. And somehow I managed to talk myself into stopping and getting on the treadmill for another 3 miles. Which is a good thing, because I can. not. stop. eating. today.

12/1 - 4.2
12/2 - 2.5
12/4 - 3.3
December total: 10.0/ ???
My goal for today was to run slow enough that my heartrate stayed in the Fitbit "cardio" zone, since Friday and Saturday were both in the "peak" (>85% of what it assumes is my max heart rate). I was successful, but that dropped my speed down to 14m22s miles. Alas! And then I got this crampy twinge in my right arch that just would not go away, so I ended up walking the last mile, but that was okay, because the next uphill was straight into the 20mph headwind.2 -
It's 38F and pouring raining. Just a few more degrees lower and it will turn into beautiful snow and I can go run, hopefully in the next hour or so.3
-
So, I’m a little behind and don’t have anything resembling a goal... but... I am on the board within week 1 for the first time in a while... with a whopping 1 mile instead of the 3 I had kinda planned on... but 1 beats nothing.
Also @MNLittleFinn - if it makes you feel better... I was sporting one heck of a shiner for about 2 weeks back in September ... not from running into a tree in the running sense of the word.... but running into a tree while walking with ADD.... was one of my more impressive “ooooo shiny.... *klunk*” moments I’ve actually had in my life, which is saying a lot.”1 -
Yesterday was an unplanned rest day, still felt stressed from lack of sleep on race day. Today was a lifting day at the gym plus rowing. Hoping to run tomorrow!0
-
6.94 km I ran out 3.5km, turned and returned home, so theoretically it should be a 7km jaunt.
Stopped my Garmin in the dark on the Riverbank Trail. Walked home as a cooldown. When I got in the door and could finally see - 60m short of 7 km. A slow run along the Riverbank trail. Foot packed so very un-even and unstable. A challenge for the ankles.
12/03 9.5 km – YTD 1253.77 km
12/04 6.94km – YTD 1260.71 km

Can't seem to get my ticker to update correctly. Maybe it's my phone. Lol. Anyways, was feeling motivated so I went out for a short little 1.5mile jog for a total of 3.7mi today. Super pumped for tomorrow's run.2
-
Moving in the right direction. Thursday I have decided will be a time treadmill 5k.2 -
December goal: 95.71 miles
12/1 3.51
12/2 5.00
12/3 rest
12/4 4.25
Total 12.76
@BruinsGal_91 so sorry about losing your mom-hugs and good thoughts...
I'll share my baking story with y'all....DH loves fruitcake, but can never eat the whole thing before it dries out, so today I made mini-fruitcakes in a muffin tin. "Did you chop the cherries and fruit?" he asked, "because they would be too big for the small cakes...."
I showed him the jars of whole cherries and prepared minced candied fruit.
"I chopped the cherries, but I did not do the fruit, you see...."
.....I know most of you are too young to get it...only adult onset runners will know the reference!
Ticker is my goal for 2017 and progress to date:
Upcoming races:
Phoenix Women's 10k 1/28/18

yay I went for a run this morning!! Only a couple of miles, and I took an extended walk break because I saw the elderly gentleman I've got to know walking and thought it was time for a catch up rather than just a wave as I run past. Sometimes it's a sacrifice a run to have a chat day and that was today. He's feeling on top of the world after his stroke and off a lot of medication. Glad I stopped.
Am debating signing up for another crossfit session tonight. But I'm putting up the tree tonight and have to go to an agricultural store to get guinea pig bedding so fitting that in as well might be a tall order. First world problems.....4 -
@HonuNui - I find myself eating Christmas cake well past Easter. When my mum makes fruit cake it's basically fruit bonded together with a small amount of cake mixture. Dark and yummy. Christmas cake of course is made in about October and soaked in brandy frequently, so rarely dries out......
