What nobody tells you about losing weight

Just two for today:
1.) Elbows are pointy.
2.) It hurts my tailbone to sit on the gym floor now that the padding is gone.11 -
Losing significant amounts of weight does not necessarily "fix" the underlying issues. I still want to eat my feelings, and sometimes I do. Today, however, I will not.53

Great point. It was only after I realized health was not about just losing weight but finding and fixing the causes of me over eating that I got my health turned around to a positive direction.10 -

And in some cases, weight loss brings out underlying issues. For example, sometimes people have affairs after losing weight. They never had a lot of interest from the opposite sex, or weren’t confident, or whatever it was, and the opportunity never arose when obese. Suddenly, someone starts to notice you.
The thing about it though isn’t that you became someone who would have an affair after losing weight, it’s that you already were that type of person, you just never had the opportunity to act on it.
For example24 -
I now expect other people to "keep up" with me; that is think faster, react faster, walk faster, make decisions faster, and I need to realise this is unreasonable and to be a little less impatient.20

I’d say the thing I wasn’t expecting was how opinionated other people are about your progress and pushing their goals onto you once you’ve made huge progress. I’m simply shocked at how many people will try to tell me when I should stop. Makes me think, where have you been for the last year while I’ve been managing this journey every day. Making new and many times difficult choices every day, punching the clock at the gym on days when I didn’t feel like going. Where were these people during those times and what makes them think they know what’s best for me and my goals? I think the more radical the transformation, the more these people like to try and take charge of the mission that I’ve orchestrated from the beginning a year ago. I’d like to know where these people and their opinions were when I was so far overweight before? No one tells you how people will act like you’re not qualified to make your own decisions about your body after you’ve accomplished an amazing transformation. That is the most amazing thing I’ve noticed.28

Wow...this is so wise and COOL of you to think/be this way--YAY YOU9 -
When I started out one particular person told me it won't work, tried to persuade me to give up and eat takeaways and asks what I'm doing it for and when I'll be finished. I thought she would be more encouraging and supportive.17

how much better your skin will get!
I used to have pretty bad hard skin on my feet - it has reduced by around 80% and what remains feels a lot more 'normal'
backs of my arms and thighs used to be constantly pimply with kind of red spots. All gone!
And this was not tried for or a goal. Just happened! I also get alot less acne around TOM. Always a bonus!14 -

Or "different". I get a less QUANTITY of acne but the quality has changed. Instead of many small breakouts, I've been getting larger white heads, but definitely fewer of them.
Too, I've had some pretty bad post-workout breakouts if I'm not diligent about washing my face right away.
And I'm not sure if it's the cold weather, but my skin has definitely gotten drier. I used to have VERY oily skin and now it's a weird combination of super oily patches and super dry patches.6 -
Well, us humans tend to be herd animals. Generay, we hang around similar ppl to us, we're aghast at different people etc. When you change people get all selfish-one less person in the group, she's turned her back on us. They act as if youve slighted them and abandoned them.
People tend not to like having a light shone on their own weaknesses/insecurities, even if its unintentional. A lot of people fail to realise it is their problem and choose to take it out on everyone else (who doesn't conform).
W W How wise and IMPRESSIVE for you to KNOW, understand and "get" this. It's taken me an entire lifetime to "figure" this out and I'm actually just learning this now, via this weight-loss and lifestyle change/transformation. Thank you so much for posting this, it's like a smile or gift you've given me. Living/thinking understanding this is soooooooooo liberating--BOOM!

Sitting in a movie theater seat and not feeling the armrests snugly slide against your hips. (as much)9

Hmmmm....someone told me sometime ago that what I am doing now is sound like a "obsession". Workouts, diet, tracking numbers and all things around my journey are just "madness" in other's people perception of "eating well and be an active person". Well....I don't need to explain myself what and why I have decided to change in better that "whole thing" which I would rather call it a "healthier life style". As long as I feel good and motivated .....way to go then!!!....and there is no turn back. The best support I've got is from my family after all and for me it's enough to keep me on going.16

Yeah, that happens. Sometimes people will turn out to be surprisingly un-supportive or even try to undermine. And then other people who you wouldn't expect turn out to be very helpful.10 -

Oh well.....dont expect support from others .....depend on you and stand by your decisions or you will fail if dependent upon said friend.7 -
It makes it hard to be around others who don't take care of themselves. Be it them eating bad or drinking and the constant pressure they put on you to partake. I stay strong and don't care just happy were I am at9

In cutting way down on processed sugar & refined flour products, I've noticed that . . . how do I put this . . . my day-to-day flatulence is is almost nonexistent now. My skin is less oily and my bad knee hurts less when I walk. All great things!15

Lol, I have found the opposite at time...eating a lot if protein2

That the difference on the scale of only two pounds, up or down, can make me feel either "hugely fat" or "amazingly thin." Neither, of course, is true.55
-
How *kitten* you'll feel when family members don't comment on your weight loss (down 25 lbs).15

BOOM! Love this way of thinking4 -
“The fact that even though ive lost over 20kg and gotten to my goal, I still pick up on flaws in photos and feel like i still look the same sometimes...”
^^^^^^^^^^
So much this . . .
I do see the person who is 100+ lbs. smaller, but I also see the 75lb. remaining til goal in the wrinkly thighs, arm-and-flap, midriff bulge.10 -

This is so true! Especially the two pounds up - takes a conscious effort to get my head under control when this happens.8 -
Yes, less food=less gas! Also, my eyes have changed and clothes in bigger sizes than I’m currently wearing look giant...and it may be a size too large that I would have thought looked like a child’s pants when I was larger. My wrinkles are awful, too! Still happy to be smaller and working like crazy to keep going now. I’m down 85 and just bouncing back and forth without loss lately.20

That once you cross a certain threshold, you kind of calm down and believe that weight loss is a given. I've been pretty much maintaining since October, but it hasn't really bothered me. I KNOW that I will lose the weight, it's just going to take some fiddling around. I'm not stressing, I'm not regaining, I know that it will come.51

So true! I actually regained some due to health issues. Yet I'm pretty Zen about it.
Weight loss is a given and will come when I'm back in a frame of mind and health where I can keep a consistent deficit.12 -
You just have to follow the process.8
