January 2018 Running Challenge

The schedule worked out such that I got to start the year with an extra long (for me!) training run. I never expected I'd get such great running weather on January 1, so that really helped! I wore a hat, light jacket over long sleeves, and alternated between gloves and no gloves, and it was perfect. Pretty much a sunshine/runner's high for the first 22k, then it got hard, and the skies went back to their usual grey.
So excited though to figure out that I ran 1000 miles in 2017! That's more than double my first year of running (2016).

I’m deciding which US marathon to run in Sept-Oct 2018.
My goal is 700 miles in 2018. I’m so looking forward to the accomplishment!
I wish everyone here a safe and enjoyable 2018!!!!!!
Peace and love to all!6 -
@eponine1984 Many congrats!!!
@crazychlobug09 Welcome
@LaurenFOB2301 That is some awesome progress!
@polskagirl01 Great start to the New Year!
Happy New Year everybody! I spent the evening with family enjoying too much food, but once I got back home, it was time to see in the New Year properly...by donning running gear and getting out there a little after midnight. Temps were chilly (for Texas) but pleasant, and absolutely nothing like the Arctic conditions the northern runners have to deal with.
Overall, my shin is still holding up well, and this time I pushed things up to just shy of 5 miles. Pace was a little slower (in all likelihood due to the massive amount of food I'd consumed), and HR was high, but that's something I just have to live with while I slowly work my cardio back to pre-injury levels.
Here's to a great 2018.

I gave up on the tickers. I could never get them right. I'm apparently ticker-challenged.1 -
GAH!!! I just logged in and it's 7 pages in already!!!
Hi guys.
My goal for January is to run, run, run as much as I can, like usual. Winter months usually range from 80-100 miles, mostly on the TM and since it's been so brutally cold (and I don't have the proper sub-zero gear) it will definitely be indoors for the foreseeable future.
My goal for 2018 is 1,200 miles. Last year I did 1,149 so I think I can do this.
Another goal for 2018 is to run another HM and then try a run of about 15 miles after that. Probably won't be until spring when that happens.
Happy new year!7 -
I didn't get out yesterday so I may sneak in a run this afternoon to break up my work. We have like a super high pollution advisory (thanks to all the *kitten* who have fires on No Burn days. It's not cold. You don't need a fire). I could barely breathe yesterday just chilling on the couch. I felt so awful. Stupid asthma.
ETA: I went to sign up for strava and apparently I already did so and logged 4 activities in 2015.4 -
1/1 - 4 miles
4 of 110 miles
I was getting dressed to go out and Skip walked in and said "do you want to go for a run"? You betcha! 14F/-10C at the start, 17F when done and sun came out nice. Very windy, feels like of 3F. Honestly that girl should have never showed me SnapChat ha ha

Will aim for 1 - 5.5 km run every 5 days/ 6 days a month. Once I get January done, I hope to persevere.
Above monthly average would get me to 400 km for the year.6 -
Happy New Year!

Resolution Run this morning, on an apparently record low temp day. It was -4 F by the time we started but the sun was out and it was not so bad. This run is a nice, casual, not chip-timed event so it's always fun. Lots of different running groups get together in one place, and there is a champagne stop and pasta and chili after. I ran it slowly with a friend who started the walk-to-run program with me 2 1/2 years ago. He's been on and off with running but I'm happy that he's into it again and this was a great personal accomplishment for him today. Fun to be part of that and log some miles on the first day of a new year.
I need to work on my new year spreadsheet. It's a bit overwhelming to start at 0 again! So much to accomplish and a blank slate to start from.

Sorry I can’t find the thread, can I have the strava group name and Facebook link? New to MFP but not to runner and would love to have people to get motivated with
@greedygob I didn't notice if anyone else has replied yet.
There are 2 Strava groups related to MFP that I know of.
MyFitnessPal Group (from Long Distance Runner Forum)
MFP Monthly Running Challenge
Some how I have lost the FB link.2 -

@katharmonic pasta and chili after your race, that sounds awesome to me!0

1/1- 4 miles
New Years day run with the group then breakfast. Temp was -1F/feels like-9. I was obviously not too keen on this one, but at least 30 people on the group's Facebook page said they were still in so I figured if they are going to get their butts out there, so could I. I only ran 4 miles. The path we run on was covered with snow, so footing was a bit tricky and I was wishing I had worn my trail shoes. Most people only did one lap which is 2.5 miles, but I felt like since I went through all of the trouble of getting bundled up, I was going to make it at least to my general minimum 4 miles. I would have gone for a full 5 miles, but the thought of that nice warm breakfast won out.
Happy New Years everyone! Way to get out there and run!!7 -
Took my 9 year old out for a run today he managed a slow 5k (8.41/km) bit slow but I’d love him to get into it8

For January, my goal is to make fitness a habit again. I've largely given up exercising since failing to make my goal race (5k swim) in June + starting a new, very stressful job. My mileage for running is low, but i walk to work so I'll try for 75k total. There's a half marathon in Feb I had thought of doing but I don't think I'll be fit enough6

Happy new year everyone! Im still getting over a cold and sore throat but went for a run as doing RED january (run every day). was super slow!

Last day of the RW Holiday Streak!!! I went 4.5 miles It was slow and a little miserable, stomach issues. So for the 40 day holiday streak I ran 110 miles. For me that is a good number, especially with all the biking and lifting I do. The biking was rained out today and as I mentioned last night, I probably wasn't going anyway after riding 98 miles in two days and having the butt that proves that. It feels better today though.
Ready for a full, complete rest day tomorrow! First day back to school,
January goal = 75 and prepare for a PR @ the Daytona Beach HM.
1/1 - 4.5 miles #RWRunStreak Day 40!!! I’m done!
Upcoming race:
Daytona Beach HM - 2/4/19

Around 4 miles was a popular distance today.2

Doesn't seem to be a lot of activity/posting in it
@skippygirlsmom Skip with her Farrah Fawcett shades on. Those would just turn into big Ice/Fog covered blinders in our temperatures right now.0 -
I'm joining the 4 mile club. 16° but feels like 0.

New Year's Day, the day of the 7.5 mile Resolution Run in the beautiful hills of Mendon Ponds Park. Gun time was 10 AM, and I had 9º F (-13º C) with sunshine and a breeze that wasn't strong enough to matter. Except I had that in my driveway, where I was shoveling snow. The hurt quads won't let me run, so I did a DNS for Resolution Run today. Sigh. Hopefully we'll get weather this nice next year, and I'll be healthy enough to run it.3
-
1/1 - 5.0 km
5.0/80 km
It was a frosty -21C (-29C with windchill) start to the Resolution Run today so I went out in pretty heavy layers (2 pairs of fleece-lined leggings, 2 pairs of smart wool socks, long sleeved running tee, race bling running jacket, then fleece-lined jacket with built in balaclava, gloves, mittens, and a buff). Of course then the promised end of the cold snap hit mid run and it warmed up almost 7C within the next 40 minutes or so. I wound up ditching the mittens but otherwise was good, maybe because I woke up with a wicked head cold. I also drugged myself .
Race was pretty casual and I was having trouble seeing out of my glasses at the end plus my phone & therefore Strava didn't like the cold, but I think I finished right around or just under 38 minutes. That's faster than my race back August so I'm good with it, especially given the conditions and the fact I'm under the weather.
My kids & hubby did the kids 1K and really enjoyed it, and then we all sat down to pancakes & sausages afterwards. They ran out of sausages before my husband could get any but otherwise it was good.
Upcoming Races:
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K
3/4/18 MEC Road Race #1 10K
4/7/18 Jasper Half Marathon
4/22/18 MEC Trail Race #1 5K
5/20/18 MEC Trail Race #2 10K
6/24/18 MEC Trail Race #3 15K
8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon 10K
9/2/18 MEC Trail Race #4 10K
10/7/18 MEC Trail Race #5 15K13
