January goal: Keep kicking at Zumbro training
Nominal mileage goal: Let's say 140? I really don't know. Real plan is to follow training and coach's advice well.

Today's notes: Hit the ridge XC trails for my 1:30:00 run today. Got in 6.69 miles.... if I would have looked at my Garmin, I would have run the extra 0.01 to get it up to 6.7 but, oh well. Rounded it down for my mileage count. Weather was a nice -15F with some wind, and partly cloudy skies. Got a nice picture for instagram on my way back on the out and back run. Feeling tired in a good way right now,

Did a 5K-length session on the TM this morning. Not yet where I want to be by my first race of the year, but I'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. I'm up to 1.25+ mile for my longest run interval and, for longer sessions, two 1-mile run intervals stacked with a 1/2-mile walk between (plus walking warm ups and cool downs). Goals for this week are to stretch my single run interval max to 1.5 miles or better and my longer sessions to two 1.25-mile runs with a walk between. (If I hit that, my pre-race goals the next week would be single run interval max of 1.75-2 miles and stacked runs of 1.5 miles or greater with a walk between.)

I am trying to rally enough motivation to get out for a run today. Had planned for a long run since we had company over the weekend and went to the dog beach yesterday instead of my scheduled long run. If I don't get out soon it will be too hot.. yes too hot (it was 87 here yesterday and even the beach was hot) The good news is it is supposed to cool off tomorrow and start getting back to more normal (cooler) temps by the middle of next week. Maybe today will be an extra rest day, I just can't decide. I came here thinking seeing all of your running would get me out the door but I just keep wishing I had some of @juliet3455's snowy trails. Actually I would probably wimp out and complain about it being too cold if I did

I was torn between long run and rest day today too. I went skiing yesterday all day, and since I only started to learn skiing this year (as in "2018"), that involved falling. A lot. After getting home yesterday I spent the rest of the evening icing the worst spots, but some of them still turned interesting shades of purple overnight... In particular the one on the left knee and another one on the outside of my left thigh look pretty spectacular right now.
In the end I gathered enough motivation to go outside for a run, but soon decided that, indeed, running hurts noticeable more than sitting on the couch! So I called it quit after 5.4km, instead of the 16km I had on my training plan. It seemed like the logical decision to make at that moment, but now a few hours later I feel a little guilty about it. I'm wondering if I can manage to do my long run tomorrow after work? The bruises should be better 48h after skiing. Or/and maybe I'll head over to the gym tonight and see how the indoor rower feels like...

Key West Half Marathon finished! It was a pretty great day and fun race. Started out at about 55 degrees, but it was windy. I didn't want to give up my long sleeves when I checked my bag but knew I would not want them. The Florida people were dressed for winter with gloves, ear warmers, long pants and sleeves - while the northerners were in tanks and shorts. It's all what you are used to.
I enjoyed this race, it's a nice course with lots of ocean views. The wind was tough but there was a good energy to the runners and several musicians along the way to keep it fun. I started with the goal of just having fun and stopped for a couple of pictures, but it was feeling good and I realized I would be close to a PR so I started to pay more attention to pace (which was good and bad, because I looked at my watch way too much). In the end I was 5 seconds slower than my PR! So close!
The after-race stuff was better than I expected because I had heard from people I met that previous years were not good. So I was happy to have a decent amount of food - fruit and pastries, bagels, and some good cornbread. There was also some beer, which I normally would pass up as I'm not a huge beer drinker but I tried this tea infused beer from Shipyard Brewery - Maui Mango flavor. It was good! I also got to try out a little TENS machine a vendor was demonstrating and that was kind of heavenly. It was pretty chilly though with the wind and being sweaty, so I didn't stay too long. Headed back to the hotel for a lovely sit in the whirlpool spa.
I'm exhausted and happy to have a few more days to enjoy Key West (which hopefully will warm up a bit more).
The medal is huge and the lighthouse light flashes!

Took a rest day yesterday, as we had to make a 4 hour round trip to pick up a parts vehicle for one of our car projects. Decided to try out a true long run today, which I haven't done since September. Took Jayde with me, and we got in 8 miles. Just a few stops along the way for her to sniff and do her thing. Plus one stop when her collar came unclasped and I had to put it back on. Luckily, she only tries to run off when she sees something fun to chase...
It was chilly and rather uneventful. Biggest news is that I decided to do the monster hill that I've never managed to run all of... And I did it! Super slow and my heart rate was sky high by the time I hit the top, but I did it! No stops and I didn't die, and was able to keep running after the summit without a break.
Average pace this run was 10:42 per mile.

I was a little sad I didn't get to stick around for Everclear. They played at 11:15 and I couldn't wait around for an hour on just a little banana. None of the food, free or for purchase, was gluten-free. It was a little disappointing but I had to get some food. I could feel a headache coming on. I ran almost the entire 6.2. I took two short walk breaks, one when I got Gatorade and the other when I couldn't push it anymore going uphill. I was running slower than my walk. LOL
Now I'm off to plan a gluten-free race series!9 -
I had a 5k race at the Zoo this morning - funny how I don't remember how hilly the Zoo is until I'm running through it. We were planning to stay and walk around afterwards but at that point I just wanted to get warm and eat some food. I see we have about 5-7 inches of snow expected tomorrow so I'll be crossing my fingers that we get less.

Hi all, a newbie here!
I'm Olga, 34 y/o, from Belgium. Discovered running 3 years ago, followed a sort of Couch to 5K, then got into a love/hate relationship with running. I used to run for 4-5km with 170+ HR for 80% of the run telling myself "well, that's just how my heart works". Then I went for a fitness test when they measured the lactic acid and they told me that I've been running on fumes every time and I need to work on basics first.
So now I run in the 140-157 range, with 8'30"/km, which MPF categorizes as "very, very brisk walk" :-D But I really want to do it right this time!
I'll join the challenge with 30km goal (25 miles), seems realistic.

@RunsOnEspresso - maybe you should send that as a suggestion to some of the race directors. I am sure they could arrange for at least one vendor to provide GF choices.
@JulieS3103 - There used to be a race here at the San Diego Wild Animal park... I had NO idea how hilly it was and the ones 'behind the scenes' were really steep! I remember taking pictures at the bottom of the runners working their way up and again looking down from the top.
@HRKinchen and @_nikkiwolf_ - I did go out for a little run. At one point Hobbes acted like he needed to stop and just laid down in a neighbor's grass so I knew it was too hot for him. We walked and ran a bit over 2 miles and came home. I may go back out later when it cools off a bit.

Welcome! You'll find most of us start out running too fast and don't progress like we anticipate.
That's rule number 1. Run slow. Run slower...
2. Would be ; respect the rest day.
I was amazed when I figured this out, that I could run 2 miles (~3k) non stop rather than the almost 1k I'd been fighting to get.3
