What nobody tells you about losing weight

It just occurred to me that people hug me a lot more than they used to and some people who never hugged me before now do.
(I don't really like being hugged by acquaintances, so I couldn't help but notice the change.)9 -
That you want to reply to your friends FB posts about their diets for the New Year but you choose not to. I want to help but I know I can't convey to them via FB that keto isn't a magical diet that'll cure their ailments.34

I totally get the whole excuse thing! Especially when people try to fob something off as a 'free meal' - Weightwatchers/Slimming World, and while I know that it's worked for some, you can't eat unlimited pasta and still expect to lose weight and then complain when you don't lose weight...
Also noticing how much of a 'secret snacker' you used to be.19 -

I've sent a lot of people to MFP and not one has actually used it for more than a day. Makes me wonder why I stayed... I wish I could give them what I had when I first started, whatever that was.31 -

I've been seeing this a lot too. One of my FB friends is doing no meat, no carbs, no sugar, no fun. She just started Monday and already she's complaining about issues with it. I've talked to her about MFP before, but no luck.
Nobody told me that it would be so hard to sit on the sidelines and watch others be how I used to be. I would never say a thing, but it drives me up the wall hearing all the excuses people have for why they can't lose weight. I know many people have said this on the thread before, but I would have never guessed it would happen to me!20 -
one of my fb friends has asked for help & even his job was in jeopardy if he didn't lose wt. I told him about mfp & also tips to substitute things as did alot of other ppl. Then you saw him eating at such & such a burger place. He did lose his job. The past week he's been posting about juicing, so he's going in the right direction10

My prescription sun glasses, which I wear all the time kept falling off my face when i looked downward. The other day they fell off on passenger side of truck while driving client somewhere. When we got back in, she sat on them & broke off one of the sides. I got it fixed & got them tighter6

You bring up a good point. I use to totally be like that. I am not sure what changed my mind to finally just track calories and exercise more. I hate to see my friends do this stuff when ultimately they have a high chance of failure.13 -

I have referred 5 or 6 people here and they have all come back to me a day or two later saying it was too hard or something to that effect. These same people constantly push the latest fad diets and supplements... I don’t get it.

Same here! In December I was on the phone with one of my best friends and we were having this great conversation about our goals in life and resolutions. I told her all about mine and how I have 1 basic health one and created lots of mini goals and checkpoints to get there. We talked about the psychology and science that supports that type of goal setting. Then she went off and said she wanted to do like, 8 resolutions! Weight loss and health is in there, so I told her about this app and she signed up, but I haven't seen her do anything on it. Yesterday, I chatted with her and asked how it was going. All she said was "No been living day by day the past couple of weeks." I don't understand this kind of thinking anymore and it makes me feel angry, and then ashamed of my judgmental attitude at the same time.
You can lead a person to water and teach them how to fish. But dont be angry when they order a pizza. You tried.35 -

I also recommended it to a few people around New Years. One in particular, I downloaded and installed the app onto her device myself and showed her how to use it to help get her started. Yesterday I asked if she had been using it and she said 'No not yet, I have been careful with what I eat. I want to get to 168 lbs again then take it from there.' Her response irritated me more than I would have expected.16 -

I know, it bugs me so much! MFP will help her reach that goal, and I already explained the importance of accurately logging food and not just guessing.5 -

That “sustainability” is highly subjective and individualized. While I’m often criticized for making unsustainable dietary changes - that really just shows the person criticizing me is ignorant: doesn’t know anything about what sustainability means to me, my taste buds, hunger level and calorie allotment.
Now does anyone want to trade me their baked potato for this piece of bread?11 -

No. I'd way rather have the potato!4 -
All y'all trying to help your friends on Facebook, I have a suggestion for you that might help your Facebook pals out. If you're just referring them to the site, I can see how they might not pick it up. Maybe send them a link to your favorite MFP thread that was really helpful to you. I occasionally send this one http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1 to people who I know who are struggling. They might not stick with MFP, but a couple people have said they've taken the advice given there to heart--even if they're not using MFP to log food, it helps to have some perspective.44

Everyones weight loss/healthy living journey is their own if anyone asks me what I am doing, what I use.. I tell them. When I did Slimming World I lost over 4stone in weight (56lb), I told people how I did it if asked, it worked for me (at that time)...and send them the SW website link. done.
I gained 16lb in 2 years and some people were quick to say 'Oh, SW wasn't sustainable then'...well FOR ME it wasn't, but for others it is.
Weight loss and fitness are unique to each person.19 -
Maybe it’s just me, but the more weight I lose the hungrier I get.12

I had the same issue until I started eating more plant based fats and less plant based carbs but not sure it that would work in your case since we are all different. Best of success.17 -

When someone who didn't know you, when you were the fattest kid in school, says "it's alright for people like you, you can eat want you want".25

Other people will mistake your bragging for complaining. For example:
me: I'm so cold all the time without all that extra padding!
them: You could try using a space heater.....
me: I don't wear my wedding ring anymore since it's too big.
them: Well you could get it resized....
internally i'm just like STOP TRYING TO SOLVE MY NSVS!!!49 -
I asked my husband to listen for his phone in case I needed him to pick me up from my walk. He misunderstood (because, playoffs), and came to get me after one hour. And I was disappointed. That I could not walk longer. Seriously. Who IS this woman?37

How many people love to give you advice or make comments. A guy I kinda had a crush on commented o one of my update posts. His comment was "great job..keep it up". All I heard was "you need to keep it up". I'm sure he was trying to be supportive but yeah... later ge told me all you have to do is "not eat bad food". Really?!?? Is that all. Thanks.18

Nobody told me how hard it would be to keep my happiness about my progress contained. I have a ways to go yet but any time someone asks me about it, it's nearly impossible not to jump for joy and hug them!
I don't want to come off as cocky, arrogant or a bragger but sometimes you just fell proud of your hard work.26 -
