1) I was telling my 18-year old daughter about a "dude" in the gym today who was just so totally posing and showing off in front of me for some unfathomable reason when she suddenly said, "Mum, I think that it is totally AWESOME that you can lift more weight than someone thirty years younger than you!".
I think that this was a compliment . . . .
2) My son, who goes running with me, had to have a minor operation today and was told by the consultant not to do anything strenuous for a week. Upon hearing this, my 5-year old piped up, "I'll go running with you, Mum!". Bless her, she can barely manage her 2km parkruns let alone adding three or four 5km+ runs a week. My dear son, on the other hand is really upset that running is off the menu for a week. I take a small amount of pleasure in this sentiment as it means that he enjoys the exercise (watching him going through the operation wasn't pleasant; I can't imagine what it was like for him though, my brave boy). As some exercise is allowed, we're going to be the tail-walkers at Saturday's parkrun instead of running the course There's always a way around things if you're determined enough . . .

In Maui on vacation and haven’t been the least bit tempted to “go off.” At 22k steps and it’s not even 4pm. I MIGHT actually drop lbs on vacation. #what? As a bonus, had a 48 bpm resting heart rate today. I can remember the mid to upper 80s.25

I havent walked on the treadmill at the gym for several months. The first couple of years I was losing weight I used it all the time so now I'll use pretty much any cardio machine rather than the "dreadmill". Anyway, for some reason I just felt like hopping on it today at the gym. And I realized that my thighs don't rub together. They are still a bit flabby. But absolutley no rubbing. When did that happen????26

Ran today for the first time in over a year... I just randomly decided as I pulled into my parking space at home that I was going to go for a run... then pushed myself through an extreme HIIT session just to go around the block once.
Here's to many more!23 -
I bought a tight fitted dress to wear to my college awards evening - but I was so self-conscious because I had put on so much weight, so I also bought Bridget Jones knickers to suck myself in, only I had brought them too small so they gave me the worst VPL ever recorded.
Today I put on the dress to work and I didn't need the pants - and the dress is loose!

Realised this morning that I now have warm showers after swimming and steam room and get dried and dressed within about 5 minutes.
Used to be that I would have a long cold shower after, dry slowly to not overheat myself again, then have a chill to cool down properly again before getting dressed.
What to do with all this extra time!! haha. clearly longer in the pool/steam room!

Was in gym this am doing lat pull downs with a very muscular guy waiting to work in. When I finished my set he commented that was really impressive. Made me feel so good.
Secondly when I left gym found that my train home had been cancelled. Just walked home, only three miles. It’s 10.30 am and I have 500 steps to meet my target today.25 -
I had to take in the waist of a pair of trousers last night by 2 inches.24

Use to hate having to crouch down to get to things on low shelves. At work yesterday I had to do inventory and for the lower shelves I was actually crouching without pain! Whohoo27

I was able to fit a Snickers and big Rice Krispy treat in the calorie budget. Not feeling guilty at all.

Things crop up at the oddest moments...
My NSV seems simple: I wore sweat pants to the dog park.
I bought them on impulse a couple of years ago, washed them, and could never quite bear to wear them. Today, I put them on. They clung to my belly, and probably showed every extra pound - but, still, I put them on. Then, I wore them out in public. It's the first time I have worn sweats in public since I was a thirteen-year-old running cross country and hurdles, when my mom told me that my muscular butt and thighs were grotesque, and that I should never _ever_ wear sweats.
I quit running track.
Late college nights, dance classes, two babies, pneumonia, flu -- I've never worn sweats.
I'm 52 years old.
And today, I wore sweat pants in public.
@SeriouslySta, so sorry this happened to you and it affected the ensuing years of your life. Contrary to what you were told, I consider a muscular, strong body to be beautiful!18 -
@SeriouslySta I am often shocked at how damaging remarks we make as parents can be. We love our children (as I am sure your mother loved you) but thoughless remarks can have such a bad effect. Given your age I suspect that the fashion dictated that ladies should be ultra thin and I am sure your mother thought she was being helpful - or was simply just not thinking. It is a such a shame you quit running. Fortunately today we appreciate a wider variety of body shapes and a healthy amount of muscle is desired by most of us. Just goes to show how careful us parents have to be. I once made a very casual joke at my daughter's expense which was intended actually to make her grateful for her many excellent qualities and to minimise what she saw as her flaws. However, I frequently feel so guilty that she took it completely another way and so to heart. Children, particularly young teenagers should have a huge warning label - tread carefully, they are fragile.
So glad you are back in your trackies! Power to your elbow!19 -
The last couple days I've had a mindset shift. Instead of trying to distract myself when I've had cravings (which never works for long) I've been able to just face myself and admit the way I feel and control it. I don't really know how to put it into words but it feels amazing and I hope I can hold onto this new way of thinking!25

I was recently accused (kinda) of two different things by two different people.
A woman that I know asked me whether I had a weight loss surgery and a guy I met at the gym last year came up to me the other day and whispered in my ear, "What are you on?"
I told him, "A diet" and laughed and laughed and laughed.
I love it.........35 -
Donated four pairs of jeans today, three 16s and an 18.30

Very often, careless or throwaway comments from those you love most in the world are THE most damaging. My father was not one to hold back verbally and I can still remember the hurt and pain I felt the day he said to me that I had a double chin. I was 11 years old at the time. 3+ decades later, and I still haven't forgotten the comment, nor forgiven him for it. He probably forgot the comment five seconds after he said it.
I don't have a double chin any more.
My dad is still really unpleasant.
The only good thing about it was learning that I should carefully consider the effect on others of everything I say. I also learned how hurtful people can be. But, during my midwifery training, I was taught that it's okay to challenge other people, even when they are certain that they are right. I would certainly challenge my father now and sometimes do when I believe that he's being unreasonable or unfair. Mostly I try to avoid him as he's pretty toxic as a person and totally crap as a parent.
We don't have a good relationship.
But that's okay.26 -
NSV for today:
I've managed to get out on the bike every day for the last 15 days. Through rain, wind, snow, cold, everything that Mother Nature has tried to deter me with.
And have been fortunate enough to see early signs that the world is ready to welcome the Spring again. Catkins, daffodils, primroses, tiny little shoots on the trees, bulbs pushing their way out of the earth. It's fabulous stuff, and I marvel every time I see it.22 -

Non scale victory - a way of measuring your success which isn't dependant on the number on the bathroom scale.4
