LOL... they might be zero 'proof', but I'm betting they are significant calories given they all have various sugars and mixers. I'll stick to my zero proof AND zero calorie flavored seltzer waters for now.
Still dry! I just ended a partial fast, and went to the store thinking I could buy everything again...had to remind myself I was still dry until the end of the month and avoided the wine/beer aisles. Not a big deal, but surprised me I was thinking I could buy wine for a few moments.7 -
Just made it through my first week! Yay me! Since I'm late to the party I plan to stick with this at least 4 weeks -- which takes me to Feb 14... which happens to be the start of Lent. Hmmm... maybe I'll carry this through Easter? Or perhaps a slightly less restrictive version, like 3 drinks/week?5

Only just heard about this today, It's my problem area so I'm going to jump on in and do 4 weeks as well.4

We don't get many snow days in NC. This kind of weather makes me want to just settle down in front of the fire with a big glass of red wine. -- Instead, I went out for a 2.5 mile walk in the snow and now I'm sipping on some Perrier.
I can't truthfully say at this moment that I prefer this to the red wine but I know the long term effects are better for me -- and it was a really nice walk.

Thursday starts the weekend! Not looking forward to getting home, workin' out, then settling in with a crisp vodka and diet tonic with a lime. I'll be looking for the relief death will bring resting comfortably in about six or seven hours!8

Ok so I haven't posted here in days, but I am happy to report that other than 2 specifically set aside special occasions, I have been dry for 18 days. So that's actually 16/18 days. I consider this a success and plan to extend this into February.4

On Fridays my wife and I used to have cocktails and stay up late watching movies. Then, I'd be tired all Saturday. My goal tomorrow is to have a cardio session, a good dinner, retire early, then get up early Saturday and go do something fun!3

Day 17 for me in the books- my husband cracked open an IPA and it looked mighty tasty but I stuck to my sparkling water4

On Day 19 --- no problem! Little bit of a hiccup last night; first time I nearly wished I had wine, but it passed.4

I'm feeling great - sleeping better, skin looks better, slight weight drop, am working out more, easier to wake up in the mornings...
Why do I ever drink at all!?7 -

Wife is going out tonight with friends (she tells me she won't be drinking... I actually believe her!), but after my workout I'll be idle... with a full bar in the basement. Gonna call some friends and see if they need a DD for the evening (designated driver... not cup size). Never volunteered to be a DD in my life... should be interesting!6

Only drank once while in Hawaii, despite my brother constantly offering me rum! Feels like a success to me5

Dry Friday. I declined an invitation to the brewery tonight. I was briefly tempted to go but I held strong. Weekends can be tough.5

Day 18 for me - went to a dinner party with people I don’t really know. Wine would have been a nice crutch but I stuck to water and still had fun!6

Tough weekend for me. It’s my sons birthday and it’s his dads weekend with him. His dad and I aren’t getting along right now so he is pretty much shutting me out-something I’ve never done regardless of what was going on between us. But instead of using this as an excuse to open a bottle of wine I’m going to stay busy and NOT open a bottle of wine in honor of my boy.5

Fridays nights are tempting after a long stressful week! Congratulations to everyone who made it through. Happy Saturday morning!
@SanDiegofitmom points out what I have learned so many times: You don't need booze to socialize!
PS. My weight is definitely going back down to what it was before Christmas. I'll probably be back to baseline by end of January! This is mostly due to dropping the CH3C2OH (alcohol), since I'm eating pretty close to maintenance level. Wishing best success to everyone else!4 -
About to head to bed...still going strong. No alcohol sales here tomorrow so three weeks down.7

When I started this challenge I thought it would be a big struggle the whole length of the month, but it’s been the opposite. Im on day 19 and couldn’t be happier with sobriety! Not that I won’t have a glass of wine in Feb, but I really am enjoying the freedom from the choice to drink or not.7

Tough weekend! Friday night was at gf house with one of her friends and the two of them were drinking and we had indian takeway so that was difficult. My gf originally said she wouldn't drink for the month in order to support me - was her insistence even after me saying I didn't mind her drinking. On the day she said drink with her friend just for the night but not get drunk. In the end she not only got drunk but spent all night pestering me to have a drink too, so that wasn't very nice but I stayed strong and avoided alcohol. Even avoided it again Saturday when she drank again, and I was tired & emotional which are normally major trigger points for me. Going through similar today, but I'm home alone now so that makes it a bit easier plus I know I have to be at work at 6am tomorrow morning.
Good news is that if I've got through this weekend the rest of the month should be a breeze, despite going out to a play and a concert this week (Tues & Sun nights)!
I hope you're all managing to navigate the weekend's temptations successfully.6 -
Good for you @dkabambe it’s not easy holding up to pressure. I was at a party all day today too lots of good beer and wine. But stayed strong! 11 more days and perhaps beyond for me!3

Rough weekend (for reasons of which I won't bore you), but Sat night I coulda used a martini or five. I even told my wife that we should have a "mulligan" day, and both of us relax with a drink that night. She nicely told me to f*** right off and that we weren't gonna drink... lol. I'm glad I have someone lookin' out for me!8

Congratulations to everyone who is still with the challenge! We are now 21/31ths of the way through and have gotten through 3 of the 4 weekends.
Like many of you, I've been under significant stress this month. I have learned time and again that there are far better ways to deal with stress than alcohol. (Actually, almost any other way is better. My favorite de-stresser is cardio.)
(When I have trouble sleeping, one thing that works for me is listening to an audiobook while lying in bed. One recent favorite was "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" which is the basis of the movie "Blade Runner." Most audiobook apps have a sleep timer feature just for this purpose.)4 -
I got a late start (Jan 7) and now have 2 weeks in the books. Sometimes it isn't so hard, sometimes it SSSSSUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKSSSSS!!! Oddly, it didn't when visiting my family in VT this weekend and my brother, sister, bro-in-law, and mom were all drinking wine or beer. I was cool with it -- stuck to my Reed's non-alcoholic ginger beer. Mom asked, "Does it bother you when you're with others who are drinking?" "No," I replied, "what bothers me most is me not drinking, no matter where I am." Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk.7

Tomorrow is a week away. It’s kind of flown. Since Feb 1 is a week day will be a good starting point for anyone that is going to keep it going. Let’s all get to the finish line! (And some of us keep the challenge rolling)4

In any case. Here we are, one week to go. Despite stress, temptations, and old habits I see that many of you have stuck with it, as have I.
I can say that I will celebrate the end of the month with an alcohol- free party. But there will be cake!

When you have an unexpectedly free Saturday night, and you get a message via mailing list of local pub saying they're doing 2-for-1 drinks all weekend to celebrate "getting through January"!4
