For me, every new month is a clean slate to make a fresh beginning on a new way of life and to continue whatever has worked for me. Going through the challenges of life with supportive and encouraging friends makes the journey better.
This thread is called "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. This is a place to share your journey to weight loss and fitness and to learn from others.
We talk about weight loss and fitness and the ups and downs in our lives that affect this journey. We try to stay away from topics that might be controversial or might offend others in any way. Kindness is important.
How did you do with your goals and resolutions for January? What goals and resolutions have you planned for February?
Be sure to bookmark this thread so you can find us again.

Thank you Barbie for your unending support and leadership. I'll refer to my January goals and how I did at achieving them and report in the morning.
Janetr OKC6 -
Thanks again Barbie.
Still making sleeping well my main goal.
Overall I did well in January. If I didn't I could usually figure out why.
I am posting a bit later because I have choir on Wednesday night and just got home.
Remembering to bookmark the outlined star. Making sure it turns yellow.

Went to the deep water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Jari Love's Ripped and Slim DVD.
Penny - you'd better be taking pics and post them. I looked and couldn't see it, I think there's too much cloud cover here.
Wendy - I don't know how I missed your post. Prayers for your daughter.
I couldn't see the moon. When I looked, there was a lot of cloud cover
Kate - hoping things work out well for your daughter
Exercised then took my elf booties to this lady and asked her if she could make some that are larger for me, then went to JCPenney to return 3 of the shirts Lynette gave me (I just don't care for dark colors) and found out that they have others like mine in different colors. I can have them shipped to the store and save postage but they won't be here until at least Monday and we may well be leaving Monday. Then went ot Ollie's to get some snack size bags, also got some Peeps to donate. Then home.
Ceramics tonight. First picked up a med for Loki, then went and got the tranquilizer for Bonnie along with extra foor for Lexi, then ceramics. Lowe's food on the way home. Now home.
Wendy - so happy for your daughter
Suebdew - great!

Really busy with work and university the first 8 days of Feb, so it's not likely that I'll rack up the big numbers then ... but I've got a bit of a break after that ...

Regarding Travelling, Events, and Photos ...
I am an avid photo taker.
Most of the time I will have 1, 2 or all 3 of my cameras with me, and it's not at all unusual for me to snap off 200+ shots on a weekend away. No, I'm not kidding.
When I head off for a 3 or 4 week holiday, I take back up storage and batteries because I know I will need them.
The moon last night? I posted 1 photo here. I took about 50. I've got it in all sorts of different phases.
But I usually only post a fraction of the total number I take. So if you go into Flickr and see that I've posted 27 photos for a particular bicycle ride or something, I've likely taken a minimum of 3 times that many and more likely 5 or 6 times.
It's just what I like to do. And one of my most relaxing and enjoyable evening activities, is look through them all, deciding what I like, and processing them to post on Flickr. That's just about my only creative outlet. Sadly, with all the courses I've been taking lately and all work I've been doing with my cycling club, I rarely get the opportunity to do that anymore. So what photos I take sit on a couple 1T backup harddrives ... waiting for me. And I might grab a few seconds to post the odd photo (like the moon) now and then.

Barbie ... thank you for the new thread!
January goals were a bust ... horrible month on so many levels ... so glad to be turning a new page in the morning!
Betty ... thank you for the link. Yes, I am aware of most of the information, but it never hurts to take another look!
Wendy ... so glad to hear your daughter will be ok ... the power of prayer!

Started on this mid-January 2018. The nature of my job has me sitting in traffic for at least 2 hours each day, sitting in meetings and/or sitting while I write/review documents. It may not seem like much for some, but meeting my daily goal of 8K steps a day is a huge boaster. I purchased a fitbit Alta HR tracker and it helps keep me accountable and encourages me to take those extra steps each day. I've also been using Fitbit coach to get in daily workouts. It's hard to find the time to get to the gym and being on a treadmill bores me, but these 8-11 minute workouts provide enough variety and are short enough for me to get at least one round in each day. Again, it may not seem like much to others, but doing at least two push-ups a day is better than doing none, and helps me build up to more. I am looking forward to seeing where this year takes me.12

Thanks to Barbie for taking care of misnamed giving us the gentle remindes each month. You are a stepping machichine. I suspect that your line dancing contributes to that.
Well I mad a big boo boo today. I woke up for the first time around 9:30 AM. I got up, took my first blood pressure meds along with my Neurontin. Then went back to sleep. Charlie woke me up and 1:40 PM. I had lunch but didn't feel it was a right time take the blood pressure meds I always take at lunch time. So I waited. At supper I took my lunch time meds. Unfortunatley it was my bedtime meds as in 2 Narco and Ambien 10 mg. it wasn't long befor I was feeling woozy and really sleepy. I have stayed up all evening so I can go to bed tonight. And yes, I will take all my regular bedtime medicine except my blood pressure meds. My last reading was 99/60. Charlie said he as. Going to wake me up every 40 minutes. Will not make that mistake again. Our eclipse was pretty this morning, it was to cloudy. A couple of people got some good pictures bode the clouds rolled in.
Well I am to tired to talk. My iPad is still acting up when I put on charge cord. Sometimes it is 25% and other days it is 100%.
Next time we go see my daughter I will make an appointment in the iPad store in Lexingon mall and have it checked out.

Goal weight face! This was me, at 200 lbs, happy physically, but my marriage was awful, and my husband was so sick. Sometimes you don't realize where you are to even appreciate it. I shall never be at that place again mentally, but I would like to be at Onederland!

If I had a sleep goal it would be ...
-sleep 7 to 9 hrs a night, no less!
Last night I did quite well ... got to bed at 1:30 am and woke at 8:05 am. 6 hours and 35 min! My longest sleep this week so far!
Despite the fact that I've had at least 6 hours a night Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week, I feel like I'm still making up for Sunday night when I went to bed at 2 am and woke at 7 am = 5 hours. I'm not sure why, but I'm finding the 5-hour nights a bit more difficult than I used to.

- Get all my protein in daily

Regarding this part ...
I've got a project for the class I'm in, worth 25% of my total mark, due on Sunday at 11:55 pm. Hence the reason why I'm not sleeping much this week. I've done 6% of the project already (2 presentations worth 3% each), and have passed that part, but I've got the bulk of the project to finish.
Then I've got my final exam on February 8th, so no sleep next week either because I've got a lot of studying to do. The exam is worth 50% of my mark.
And then my next course begins on February 26th. It is a regular semester course, not an intensive course, and it looks like I'll be attending classes Monday mornings and for a couple hours one afternoon each week.
Still working full-time, and the cycling really ramps up mid-Feb until June.

I take medicine for an over active bladder, and I think that puts me into such a deep sleep, its hard to get out of. Talking to the doctor tomorrow about it. 5-7 hours in a fair amount of sleep nightly.

Hmm ... that's something I've wondered about lately.
I go just before bed, then I'm up twice in the night (twice in 5-6 hours), and even so, the need to sprint to the toilet is one of the things that officially gets me up in the morning. I haven't slept all the way through a night in a long time.
But I'm beginning to wonder if that's a bit overactive.

Hi Sisters, just thought I would add that while I was at the hospital sitting in vigil beside my daughter, a terrible sharp Super Blood Blue Moon Storm swept through our area and knocked two of our mature trees down. One landed on Major's doghouse and took out half his kennel area. Miraculously, he was unharmed! The other tree, a large plum, split in half and missed Lace's kennel. The horses bolted out of that area and through a locked gate, breaking the latch to get to safety. They were all unharmed, Thank God. Our hospital was crazy busy with heart attacks, strokes and emergencies during this Super Moon. There was no room open for my daughter and we had to stand in the corridor next to her bed and talk to the doctor about her upcoming surgery. There were lots of other people parked in the corridors as well. It was WEIRD! (We eventually got a room in the children's ward for her) Wendy11

Allie - I'm sorry that your brother is feeling the need to act out. What is it that he wants from you?
Becca - I like your dream. Italy, Sting and No dishes. It sounds good to me.
Barbara, South Oregon Coast. - Hudson Bay store. Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I live in the Prairies so that's as close to a bay as I will get here.
Janetr - Congratulations on 800 days of logging.
Wendy - That's good news about Georgia. I will pray for her quick recovery.
Today our Warrior Princess Keira will be 8 and tomorrow she will be telling everyone that she will be 9 soon. Lol. I think we are invited to supper at Moxies with their family after her dance class. I remembered that I had a Ken doll here so I bought an extra outfit for him and one for her Barbie. I'm not sure how much she will play with them as she is usually not that into dolls. She always says she is but when you ask what she has been doing it is usually art or a craft. Friday she is having her party with her friends.
My boss put his foot in it again. In front of someone who has worked in our customer service/cash area for a very long time. He makes this statement " We could easily teach a monkey to do cash." He wasn't talking to her but she replied "Wow, that really makes me feel valued". She is more offended that he will ever know. I am also as I have been a cashier more than once. In the morning I had tried to get something to recognize this same lady from him as she has done a stellar job and excelled in more than one area through a challenging Season. He told me that is her job. My argument was that it is nice to be recognized occasionally for a job well done. He then tells me well she will be recognized for that on her evaluation. No, she won't because it is a % that we have to make and she doesn't get bonus points for doing it well. I want to take a bunch of bananas and place it on his desk with a note that says he can give them out to our cashiers. I won't and I doubt he would even get it. Still po'd but not surprised. And yet he wanted to give prizes to people who couldn't bother to show up to our Christmas party and don't do that great of a job. It will be a delightful day when I don't have to see his face in the morning any more.
My grown granddaughter's Mom was attacked by a dog. She thinks the dog was trying to protect the new baby of her client's. Very traumatic.
Courtney is not communicating with me now that I said we could not help her financially. She did not react well to me suggesting that she supplement her groceries by going to the food bank. I know she gets a disability cheque and Apinder is working. I also suggested that she work out a budget. I know she can get someone to help her with this. I will send her a gift card for No Frills this month as a Valentine. She is not happy with us, the other grandparents, her Mom or our son, Ryan. None of us will send cash as this will not solve the problem. She is really mad at Larry as she posted a photo of what she is doing with her hair. Free form dreads? Basically she says you don't brush your hair and you wash it once a week. Larry posted his opinion and mentioned that last year when she had dreads she had to have her hair shaved off because she didn't care for them properly and their was mold. She says he was rude. She also said her Mom was rude. They both replied "Don't post it on facebook and ask what people think if you don't want them to tell you"
She says they are rude and ignorant then asks us all for money.
Thinking about what I really want for goals this month. What are my priorities? What will make the most difference to my life? My word for this year is Growth.

Happy February everyone. Glad that each day brings me closer to Spring. I start dreaming and planning the garden and that always cheers me up through the cold and dreary winter days here in NY.
Thanks Barbie for the new slate to write on, we sure are a chatty supportive group, and I count of that!
Well I've decided to continue to continue my goals once again
Reduce grocery spending
Limited eating out (except during vacation this month)
Exercise at least 5xs per week
No eating after 7 p.m.
Journal every day
Keep up with my goals calendar (which is a lot of fun!)
Here's hoping we all have a productive, healthy month together.

Barbie ~ Your are our hero!
Becca ~ You look beautiful in that photo. Your hair is pretty and you have a happy smile.
Sharon ~ I assume Courtney is your granddaughter. She sounds like one of our new generation of entitled individuals. Hope it all works out. Happy birthday to Keira.
Glad for a new month! There are no birthdays this month...Yeah! Well, there is Valentine's Day. I've already bought the grands a card to send.

I am having a really hard time getting motivated to stay on track. My weight is at an all time high for me. I really want to turn that around! Sugar is my addiction!13 -

Hello all! Happy February! Happy Thursday! I got all excited when I hopped on mfp and saw only 16 posts! lol then I remembered it was a new month and found Barbie's link to follow you all! Thanks Barbie!
Welcome new ladies! We are a chatty group; but the chatter keeps us sane. Think of it as friends meeting over a cup of coffee a few times a day! If the many posts seem overwhelming, feel free to skim. I think most of us do, at times.
Pip- L VE the profile pic of you and Kirby! You know we love anything you post that has a pic of your adorable hubby!
Wendy-So glad the surgery went well for your daughter! Yes, please let her know that she is still in our thoughts and we are sending love. lol I have an image in my brain of the SUPER supermoon being so big that it took out some trees and squashed the dog house!
Well, I am back to wearing the knee brace. Had a couple of knee straining incidents the other day with the kids, and pulled that knee muscle/ligament a bit. Knee swollen and sore today. So frustrating. So...my walking is taking a back seat, again, for a while. Back to RICE, (as much as possible with kids in the house). I will have to focus on making healthy food choices/aka sticking to my meal plan. I am pretty sure I will lose, if I do so, even without the exercise; it is just going to be at a slower rate for a while. But loss is loss, right?
January was my "get real" month as I finally weighed myself (found myself 10 lbs heavier than my last weigh in, pre-injury in November), got results back from my blood work (cholesterol and thyroid on the high level), and realized that I need to get my weight under control before I am in serious trouble. End of January brought my high protein, low carb meal plan back to the forefront and a three pound loss within two weeks of beginning. I will take that.
Goals for February: keep on with the food plan, keep on with becoming "less" in body- "more" in spirit! I can do this! I think I will begin a "leg free" strength training plan. Swimming is out again, but maybe the therapy pool? It is a warm pool (ick) but only about four feet deep, so I could do some cardio and movement...
Ah well, on we go! Kiddos arriving! One more day this week. My great nephew and niece are here. I love them, but it is quite obvious that they spend a LOT of time with mommy. Not socialized well aka a little on the spoiled side. I am glad they are only with me two more days! REally makes me appreciate those kiddos that are with me daily and have been given equal amounts of love and discipline. Whew! Exhausted this week!
Question for all- Menopause! For those of you that have been through it. Does your body still react emotionally, physically the way it did at the "time of the month"? I know you don't bleed monthly anymore; just wondering if you still go through the emotional swing when that "time" gets closer?
that's all for now! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -
Good morning ladies!
Thank you Barbie for starting us off again!
Welcome to the new ladies.
I posted January results yesterday after I weighed in for the end of the month.
FEBRUARY goals:
1. Lose 3 lbs. I’m getting close to my goal so I’m expecting things to slow down. I will also be away from home several days at mealtime so I won’t be preparing as much of my food myself. I realize I still have control of what I put in my mouth, but sometimes your best estimate is off with hidden oil, etc sneaking in.
2. Close all rings on my watch every day.
3. Continue to stretch 3X a week
4. Continue to log every bite.
That’s all I’ve got! Happy February!!

Yesterday we had "Thanksgiving Dinner." It is not so easy to find turkey in January, but the local Safeway had two. We took the smaller one and it is huge. We shopped day before yesterday and managed to have the turkey thawed in time to cook yesterday's dinner. Dinner was divine.
Our son and DDIL have an event in mind for today, a car show. I hope we have a good time. The baby is a sweet natured little boy & I expect him to do very well during our outing. It will be hard to leave him when we head back home after our stay.
Here is my January summary:
January 2018 Resolutions:
1: Log every bite and swallow: Done!
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina: I did exceedingly well until we left on our trip to see grandchildren. Since we left on our trip exercise has been sporadic and I've missed my routine.
3. Have fun every day. Done!
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. Done!
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. Done
February Goals: (As always)

Welcome to February, ladies. Spring is around the corner!
Thank you, Barbie, for getting us set up for a new month!
I didn't look back to see my January goals - but I do know that thanks to many of you, last month I learned about the benefits of intermittent fasting (for me, stopping eating by 4 or 5 pm and not having breakfast until 12-14 hours later).
I'm getting better sleep and hopefully my brain is having a chance to reboot itself, lol. Plus, I used to do my worst grazing after supper with sugar loading. No more. Kitchen is closed!
So, my February plan is to stay on this healthy trend:- Stay off added sugars and processed foods including bakery goods
- Cut way back on dairy and grains (yogurt OK and a slice of sprouted wheat bread)
- Keep eating lots of veggies, greens - both cooked and raw, bean salads, eggs, good quality meat now and then, healthy fats like avocado.
- Keep logging to make sure my fiber is at least 30 gm, and that I'm getting enough protein and calcium.
- Strength training 3 times per week and some "cardio bursts" on off days. 6000 steps minimum per day.
- Keep up with the 12 to 14 hour stretch between supper and breakfast, plus make sure I stop eating at least 3 hours before bedtime. (I turn in early and get up early!)

Evelyn - Your rate of weight loss is excellent. It took me 80 weeks to lose 57 lbs, but the good thing is that I've been able to stick at maintenance for 4 years. Slow but sure is best.
Suebdew - Great hair!
Going off in a minute to do my Day 2 Week 5 c25k.
KJ - I know how frustrating those knees can be. Grrrrrrrrrr! Mine is holding up for the moment. When it goes out it makes you feel so helpless. Have you looked up wheelchair exercises? You can do sitting weights. If you strap it you could do floor exercises. Good luck!
Sunny but chilly here today.
We've got a viewing booked for Saturday at 2 pm. We moved it forward to 2 so that DH would not miss too much rugby.
We've decided to go to our nearby town and have a pub lunch. They do a delicious fennel and spinach salad. Yum!
