WOMEN AGES 50 + FOR FEBRUARY 2018

Evening, I'm tucked into bed early, feeling run down. I am a bit surrounded by sniffling, coughing, sick children--over the years I've built up a pretty good immunity but I'm being extra cautious with handwashing frequently and trying to get a little more rest. Expecting another ice storm tonight so I don't know if I will be facing a tough commute tomorrow or another snowday!

February's Goals
-eat like a healthy person!
-sleep 7 to 9 hrs a night, no more.
-limit tablet games to 1 hour a day (15 min intervals each)
-read one book a week (minimum)
-morning 15 minute stretches, floor work
-take daily walks 20 minutes
-have quiet time for 20 minutes
-journal write nightly.
Most of these sound doable for me. Thanks for the group!

Heather, no I haven’t really figured out why I’m sabotaging myself. I’ve been feeling anxious the last few months. Going to have to think more on it instead of ignoring it.2

Hi all: No Janetr I have not posted for several weeks. My year did not start as well as it might. My DH had knee replacement in Dec and he has been a huge baby about it. According to him you would think out of all the people who have ever had knee replacement he has had the worst pain. He overdosed one day on oxycodone and nearly did a faceplant in his dinner. He refuses to eat especially the protein the doctor wants him to and says he has lost over 20 pounds this last six weeks. He looks like he probably has. People at church have told me he does not look good and wonder if he has something other than the surgery wrong. My dog became ill in January and spent 2 days at the clinic getting IV electrolytes for pancreatitis, then was diagnosed with Addison's disease. They started treating that but she died just a couple of days later. In the middle of all this my son was taken to the hospital with a collapsed lung. He was there for five days. They had to put in a second chest tube before the lung fully inflated. He is fine now but they have no idea why the lung collapsed in the first place. So I have been reading although way behind but not posting. I am finally caught up.
My 70th birthday was yesterday and I was hoping to get to onederland before that but did not quite make it. Currently at 203. I will get there soon. I have been experimenting with 8:16 IF and I think this may work well for me. I have made my eating window 11-7. The only thing is I have been forgetting my morning meds that I usually take with breakfast.
I was unable to go to the YM for about 4 weeks. I am back to going now since my DH can go now. He brags to his PT about going and doing his exercises but he does nothing at home where he is supposed to be doing range of motion at least 3 times per day. The only times he will work on the knee is with the PT or at the YM when I go.
Lanette - The baby goats are not so small anymore, about 60 pounds. They are nine months old.
Becca - That is a lovely picture of you.
Barbie - Thanks for keeping us going. I always learn something when I come here.
Cheryl - Glad to see you back. Sorry about your horse. I lost my sorrel mare last fall to degenerative ligament disease. I have put off buying a new one for a while, maybe this spring.
And on the bright side we are getting a new puppy next week. She is a chocolate labradoodle. My son is getting one of her siblings, a black male.
This is a memorial pot that my daughter had made for me using hair from my horse's tail. It is placed on the hot pottery and burned in to make the patterns. The ornament and necklace were extras from the potter.
Everyone take care, Sue in rainy WA

Happy World Wetlands Day!
"World Wetlands Day brings awareness and remembrance of the Convention on Wetlands of 1971. The convention and the world wetlands day were established to educate on the importance of wetlands and what they mean to humanity and the planet. ... UN Water estimates that 90% of natural hazards are water based. When violent weather comes in, the wetlands act as a buffer. This gives time for the bad weather to slow a little and for the people nearby to get to safety. If the wetlands can stall the weather slightly there can be less damage to property and loss of life."
Wendy - What wonderful news for your daughter! So happy she had a surgeon who was willing to make the effort to save that fallopian tube.
Kelly - Too bad about the knee brace. Maybe you should wear it pre-emptively when you're out doing stuff with the kids?
Karen UK - Someone earlier said I wasn't allowed to use "only" and "one pound" in the same sentence. Seems like good advice - even if you just lost .2 pounds, you are still going in the right direction!
Karen Virginia - So far my word for 2018 rhymes with "Pluck." Seriously though, that's because it's off to a rocky start for me but it'll get better.
Sharon - That boss sounds like he feels a need to make himself feel important.
Sue - Oh, Sue, you have had a horrible time of it lately! I'm so sorry to hear about all those troubles, especially all hitting so close together. Hope things will settle down for you soon.
I can't believe it's February already. Today I found out we may not have to take Dad's estate through probate. He set nearly everything up with beneficiaries so it can just be divided up by filling out a boatload of forms. That just leaves the river house and a timeshare to deal with. The timeshare is going to be a pain in the behind.
I've got a new recipe in the slow cooker tonight - not sure how it's going to work out and whether I'd really call it jambalaya since it has no bell pepper or celery in it (you can't make Cajun food without the Holy Trinity!), but it's my first attempt at substituting cauliflower for rice. Guess we'll see. I like jambalaya, so if this recipe is lacking something I'll probably try it again using Mom's recipe instead.
Off to fill out forms. Y'all be good to yourselves!

Sue,so sorry to hear of all the trauma you have been through,I've been going through alot myself..and so I ask the good Lord to get me through each day ..one day at a time...
Looking to go grocery shopping and Because I live alone ,I just don't eat the right things...haven't really lost or gained, but have been consuming way to much sugar..I want to get back to more balanced diet and feel better ...I have my daughter's wedding in June that I have to be at and I don't want to look like a whale..her birthday is Monday and I will be in court all day..and then at court again Weds for pre trial.had the house appraised today .so hopefully that works in my favor.
Getting miss munchkin on bus in am ,going to feed DFIL and then up to dad's house again...

Good evening Ladies!
Quick check in, lost 3 of the 12.4 lbs. I have gained since October. Been very good sticking to the plan that works for me for the past 2 weeks. This weekend will be a challenge as I have a hard time with limiting food and drink at social engagements. Very posh baby shower on Saturday and Super Bowl parties at work tomorrow and during the game on Sunday. Go Pats! I'm not a football fan but enjoy the celebrations. Did you notice the words "party" and "work" in the same sentence? Yes, things at work, have changed dramatically for the good with the new management.
I must go and do some exercise before it gets too late. Have been sitting too long catching up on posts but you Ladies are with it.
Love and hugs to everyone.
Chris in MA8 -
Hi ladies. I have been reading through posts and finding them all so encouraging. I will be turning 53 next month and have reached my highest weight I have ever weighed. I need to loose 125 lbs.
Started again Jan 3 and today at 4 weeks I am down 12 lbs finally.
In February
Continue eating plan

It has been awhile since I checked in. Thank you Barbie for the New page. With a severe cold and Jury Duty for January, I did not do well with my goals. Decided to consult a trainer at the gym today. I am dehydrated, I drink more caffeine than I do water. So I will be working on replacing the caffeine with water, because a gallon of water plus an additional 2oz of water for every 1 oz of caffeinated beverage is more that I can drink.
My February goals are:
1. Drink a gallon of water a day
2. Record every thing that goes in my mouth
3. 10,000 steps daily
4. Work out at the gym 5 days a week.
Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

Did Jari Love's Slim & Lean DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to use the stairmaster at the new gym. This is the first time I will have gone there.
annieguz - welcome! Sounds like you've found something that works for you. That's wonderful, keep it up!
Pam in WA - welcome! We're so glad to have you with us. Just jump right in when you can
Sharon - guess your boss wasn't thinking. Wonder how he'd feel if someone said something like that to him?
Becca - you do look beautiful in that picture. You'd never know the hurt you were going thru.
Ann - welcome back. Don't worry if you can't read all the posts, just come in when you can. Many is the time I have to just skim.
KJ - why is swimming out? I would think it would be OK since there is no pressure. My body doesn't react the same now as pre-meno. I don't get cravings or cramps (I just get cravings all the time....lol)
Lanette - I am like you, I do my worst grazing at night, too.
Karen in VA - what is the significance of "pluck"
Heather - good luck on your next session. You CAN do this
Tammy from NJ - welcome! I'm sure someone else can tell you how they track the swimming because even tho I take a water class, I don't track any of my exercise
Terry in VT - good for your husband!
Welcome anyone new that I may have missed!
Thinking of you, Lenora
Sue in WA - (((HUGS)))) You certainly have had a lot on your plate. Happy Birthday. A new puppy! How exciting. What a thoughtful daughter you have
Chris in MA - I'm not a football fan, either. But I do enjoy watching those men running around the field in those tight pants....lol
Diana in TN- welcome
Just got home from Newcomer bowling. The plan right now is to leave for FL Monday. SpaceX is supposed to launch Tues. We invited friends and they're coming then they're going to do some visiting. These are the friends who stay at the condo when they go see her grandson in Miami.

It was last week when I joined this group, so I was surprised how quickly the pages add up! I can imagine everyone sitting at a café with coffee or tea and listening to the continual changing topics, encouragement, and laughter. So nice!
Menopause – I never really had mood swings so probably not much help here, although sleep is what’s being affected now. Or lack of!
I recently learned that through my health insurance, I can join certain gyms for a reduced monthly fee. I’ll be looking more into the ins&outs of this option, especially group classes and times.
I’m on a roll logging my food and I find it is helping me become more aware. Beware, sugar, you're next!

Sue, so glad to hear from you. I was a bit worried for sure. Goodness it sounds as if you have had more than your fair share. Happy Birthday and the biggest big (((hug))) ever. Keep coming back.
The memorial pot is wonderful.

Podcasts, I have several podcasts that I listen to regularly. My favorites are "10% Happier" with Dan Harris and "Happier" with Gretchen Rubin. They are both available in many places. Ask me for help, if you can't find them easily. There are over 100 episodes of each of these and I've listened to all except the last few that are loaded on my phone now, waiting for me. They are pleasant to listen to and have added a lot to the quality of my life.

To those of you that need hugs..
(((((((((((((((((Hugs!!!))))))))))))))))
Husband had pizza tonight, and I had a bowl of oatmeal with walnuts and a drizzle of syrup. We are like the Ying/Yang with eating. So opposite of each other! I made him Hamburger Helper beef pasta the other night with canned corn. You would've thought I had cooked the best meal ever. He ate pretty much the whole pan. I had cereal that night. No desire for beef noodle. Now I only put in 1/4th of a lb of hamburger so at least what he ate was mostly noodles and salty beef sauce.
We are invincible! We are stronger than we realize!

Sue in WA: I am so sorry for the loss of your horse and for your DH's post knee surgery misery. I hope he cooperates with whatever physical therapy his doctor suggests & heals quickly and completely. Happy 70th Birthday!!!
Wesseg AKA Cheryl: Welcome back! I am sorry about the loss of your horse. I hope you'll be able to find one that suits you & are able to find a good home for the one you have now. :flowerforyou:

We are on the east side of the country visiting DS & DDIL, and our wonderful baby grandson. I am beginning to get tired and will be glad to go home in a few days. I'll post as I can, but it may not be regular until we get home.

Wendy, What a shock. So glad to hear the prayers for Georgia meant the surgeon was able to save the tube. Hugs to her for the grieving process. Hope you can take some time to recoup for yourself.
Sue in Troutdale prayers too for you walking that delicate rope. You're right about goals, logging is the key for most of us.
Yvonne grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup is one of my cold weather faves too. When I'm sick it's I cut squares of peanut butter-spread-whole-wheat toast to float in the tomato soup. Sniff, cack, do I feel a little feverish?

Machka, wish we lived closer as I’d have you help me take pics for my website. You make me exhausted just reading about what you have to do.
I'm a bit exhausted too. I'll be glad when I hand this project in on Sunday at 11:55 pm. But then I'll need to start studying for the final exam. This course that had a level of difficulty I wasn't prepared for ... calculus + learning a whole new programming language!! And I'll need to know some of that on the exam.
I have dabbled a little bit in taking photos of jewellery, and I'd like to play with it a bit more if I get a spare moment.
And I was experimenting with getting that sparkle (the rays!) off the stone in this ring ...

Morning lovely ladies, well I got my delayed opening due to icy roads, I may even carpool to my afternoon meetings so I have no need to get behind the wheel.
I’m suffering from some “impostor syndrome” mostly in my dreams. I’m having anxiety about my March concert with the youth orchestra—my work with the kids , the rehearsing is all going well, just not in my noggin’
I’m dragging my feet writing my bio for the program notes, also have to write synopsis for each piece for the program—I have a deadline and today’s micro action is to write the titles and the composers birth/death dates on a piece of paper—if more gets written then the micro action will have done the trick.
When I’m frozen from procrastination or anxiety—I find the tiniest action helps, the other trick is I imagine how I will feel after the big event is over and I’m no longer in the “hot seat”. For me-anticipation of an event is always more difficult than the actual event.
Stay strong ladies, NYKAREN10
