@bradcharlessimmons I'm really impressed that you've incorporated it your diet. If it didn't have such a negative affect on me I would as well. I recently learned I have a problem with gluten. So it looks like it'll be more liquors for me. Let's be honest, we didn't really think about that years ago. Hindsight 20/20. The only thing we can do now is shape the future.
Thanks. You're doing quite well yourself. Keep it up.
The intermittent fasting was difficult to get use to at first. Now that I've been in it for a few weeks, it's super easy. After some testing with times, I personally found that noon-8 works best for me. The only times I break my schedule is either by choice or I didn't have enough for dinner. It's made packing for work super easy. I usually make a smoothie the night before for lunch. Throw it in a Shaker bottle so it's easy to remix. Then my dinners have been heavier in meat. If I go to a friend's place or out to eat and it's 10p then whatever I'm still going to was. It's much easier than I expected. I've had so much more energy, and a clearer mind. I honestly don't think I've ever go back to 3 meals again.bradcharlessimmons wrote: »@bradcharlessimmons sounds like you had an awesome weekend. Do you usually count calories? Once I get down to the weight I want, I'm planning to start adding beer back to my diet. Then again it may just be liquors, we'll have to see.
I did have an awesome weekend thanks! Yes, I'm a big advocate of counting calories however it's unrealistic to be 100% accurate all of the time. Beer wise I always remember the average pint of lager is around 200 kcal, so I can usually build it into my weekends if I opt for a smaller lunch or some heavy cardio or move to gin and diet tonic (50kcal max, usually). Being a student a couple of years ago I could sink up to 24 pints in a sitting (big sesh I know) but looking back; that is horrendous, calorific and damaging to my liver.
Congrats on the loss so far this round by the way, how are you finding the fasting?

@andfivesixseveneight Don’t forget to take care of YOU! Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
@SherryRueter Thank you. After 50+ years of trying to lose weight, I have learned a couple of things (and have a huge collection of diet books) and am an avid reader. I like to try to help others, so make suggestions for what might work.
@quiltingjaine I recently learned my son has a gluten allergy and decided to try a piece of bread to see if I get any reactions. Well that completely paused my progress and caused some pretty intense bloating. I'm sure the next several days it'll drop down a good chunk. I've always been very uncomfortable. I never thought it would be from gluten. I would go get tested but if I do... And I'm positive... I lose my job. So knowing I'm having the same issues as my son and he's not allowed to have it at all makes me wonder.2 -
1/28:: 240 - It's getting easier to eat less food. The Intermittent Fasting is still very hard during breakfast when I'm cooking eggs, bacon, french toast for the kids.
1/29:: 238.7 - 1350 kcal food intake - it's getting easier to pass up the sweet foods. I just gotta keep telling myself it's not worth it. It's days like today when I reach my nutrient goals but yet still have open kcal available. I'm going to start doing smoothies for lunch everyday. Fasting during work days are super easy.
1/30:: 238.7 - 1101 kcal intake - I was planning to fast all day long however the wife tempted me with homemade chicken and dumplings... Well to say the least once I started eating I just wanted more. So I stopped at my kcal goal.
1/31:: 238.7 - 1201 kcal intake - I'm starting to get frustrated the scale isn't moving. It's becoming like groundhog day.
2/1:: 238.2 - I stayed up entirely too late to see the blood moon last night. Seeing the scale change has been a well needed relief. Little did I know I was going to need that bump in motivation. Today has probably been the hardest not to eat junk food. Then to make matters worse, leadership brought in a huge stack of pizzas for us today. I smiled, thanked them and walked away... The smell has filled my office making it extremely tempting... Especially when I know they have my favorite out there. Pepperoni and Bacon. That's made my vegetable smoothie very lack luster to drink. I just keep telling myself that a craving isn't worth back tracking for.
2/2:: 237.6 - My morning was fantastic. Very productive. Not even slightly tired. Feeling great! However my afternoon made everything interesting... They ordered pizza again and I scummed to the madness. I had 2 slices and 2 cheese sticks. After about 30 minutes I had really bad heartburn, headache, abdominal cramps. I know my son has a problem with gluten... Today has been the first day I had any large amounts of bread and it really messed me up. My entire afternoon was very difficult. No energy. Mental fog.
2/3:: 235.6 - I woke up feeling decent. As my day went on things got better. Smoothie for lunch. Starting to feel great. However I was tempted with donuts... I had 2 and everything I described from yesterday applied today as well. Everything just fell apart on me.
2/4:: 236.6 - I think the gain was from drinking a ton of water right before bed. We'll see in morning. Today was okay. Nothing special. I tested out the gluten thing today. I definitely react to it and not in a good way at all. I really love my breads and this is going to be really hard.
2/5:: 236.6 - I'm really confused how I'm staying the same weight. I've been keeping my calories between 1200-1400. Today I broke my intermittent fasting with breakfast. Definitely blew my calorie goal out of the water. It's okay. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll pick myself up and try again. I'll get this weight off... I'm already lighter than I've been in years. I'm going to be traveling soon and plan on fasting for several days. We'll see how that goes.
2/6:: 237.6 - I didn't sleep well at all. Plus my morning was very difficult. As the day went on, things got much better. Now that it's been a couple days, I'll probably start losing weight again.
Total loss: 2.4lb - not bad, I learned more this week about myself than I have in years. Overall, I'm happy with it.5 -

Hello, I'm back! I had been about 5 pounds from my goal weight for a while, then since Christmas its jumped up to 10 pounds, and I am not pleased. So here I am.
SW: 136
GW this round: 132
GW ultimate: 125
Day/Weight/Comment
01/28 - 136.6 not a good start
01/29 - 135.4 - did well yesterday
01/30 - 133.8 - ate within calories yesterday, did a little stepper workout!
01/31 - 134.5 - did well, little stepper workout
02/01 - 134.5 - had a bit too much sugar, a bit above calorie goal, so probably a bit of water weight
02/02 - travelling for work, no scale. continental breakfast and sitting in a car for 11 hours a day,
02/03 - travelling for work, no scale. continental breakfast and sitting in a car for 11 hours a day. shouldn't be an excuse, but I'm just not used to that.
02/04 - 136.2 - yeah i deserved that gain after the last few days.
02/05 - 135.8 - yesterday was better, got an hour on the elliptical
02/06 - 133.6 - yay! I've been buckling down since getting back from the road trip, and am seeing the results. The water retention from the sugar and salt from travelling is gone (and hopefully a bit of fat too).
Pounds lost this round: 34 -
Here we go again! Another 10 days. I love the accountability of this group and challenge, everyone is so motivating and supportive! Wouldn't be where I am without all you long term 10 dayers....looking forward to getting to know the new ones
SW - 182.4 - March 2017
original GW - was 145- met this target in October
new GW - 140
I was maintaining a 143ish average nicely up until Christmas and my crazy gift show season in January and things have crept up to about 145. It could be worse so I'm not stressing over it but I know I've lost some fitness over the last month and a half and want to get back in control of things. I will start back into my cardio and strength routine and daily calorie logging this round...I've been a bit slack as of late. I would like to get under 140 slowly over the next couple of months so I won't be to aggressive with my calorie deficit.
1/27 - 145.0 - coming in from round 29 with a rolling 7 day avg of 145.5
01/28 - 144.2 - feeling a bit run down this morning...will get out for a walk with the dog and some housework today...nice to see it under 145 though.
01/29 - 146.4 - Bleh!! Did not eat well yesterday and I can feel the bloat...back to tracking and logging today.
01/30 - 146.2 - took the dog for a 3.5km walk yesterday morning and did a full kettlebell work out after dinner...muscles are a bit tight today...
01/31 - 144.6 - knew this would be down...I was "flushing" the water weight what seemed like every half hour yesterday. Hit the elliptical and did an express kettlebell work out...going to take a break from the weights today and just bundle up and take the dog for a good walk this morning.
02/01 - 145.2 - Meh...a few too many carbs yesterday...
02/02 - 144.6 - back here, having a hard time with the evening snacking this week....need to plan better to make them fit in my targets.
02/03 - 144.0 - Yay! coming down! Have a kid home with a virus...madly keeping him contained to the cootie zone and cleaning so it doesn't spread to the rest of us but I did get a good 50 minutes in on the elliptical yesterday
02/04 - 143.0 - a small Whoosh! Just in time for TOM to arrive and bloat it back up again LOL...or maybe not...I can only hope.
02/05 - 145.0 - Hormone bloat...
02/06 - 144.8 - Ended under 145 with a rolling 7day average of 144.5. I'm good with that...I want to get down to 140 slowly. I'm finding it interesting getting back into weight loss mode after maintaining for a few months.
See you all in Round 31!!5 -
R29EW 68.2kg, Average 68.43kg
Initial Goal Weight 65kg
Ultimate Goal Weight 60kg
R30 GW 67.7kg (aiming for 0.5kg again although I think it might be a bit ambitious, I generally lose slowly!)
R30 (2)
01/28 - no access to scales today, also expecting a lot of water weight due to eating out all weekend (very limited food choices), will do what I can to not overeat though!
01/29 - 68.8 - a big jump up, I expected it though after a weekend of limited food options, hopefully just water weight and will come off in the next couple of days
01/30 - 67.8 - followed by a big drop, mostly water from the weekend I think. Also didn't eat much yesterday as I was ill so I expect this will rebound back up a bit.
01/31 - 68.2 - back up a bit, ate late last night and got up and weighed early. So far no change this round!
02/01 - 68.3 - ate at maintenance yesterday, as well as having achy muscles from a PT session - trainer upped all my weights. Hopefully won't creep too much higher!
02/02 - 68.7 - been eating a lot of carby food this week, will try to eat less of it today and see what happens. Cals have been at or slightly above maintenance so need a few good days to finish the round. Difficult because we're eating out tonight and tomorrow
02/03 - 69.0 - yikes this has been a bad 10 days! I certainly haven't put on this much fat, as I've gone only a little over on cals. However we did have a 3 course dinner out last night so I'm guessing there's a lot of water weight hanging around. If I can manage 3 ok days hopefully I'll finish the 10 days staying about the same!!
02/04 - 68.4 - a better day yesterday so some water has gone, hopefully another good day today will help too! Played hockey yesterday but also ate out.
02/05 - 68.6 - all over the place the last week! I've planned fairly well for today so hopefully this will drop a little for the end of the round!
02/06 - 68.4 - I'll take it after the 10 days I've had! Only 0.2 up from the start. I need to try and focus on my food choices a bit more for the next 10 days I think!
Average 68.46 - so basically didn't move. I didn't set very realistic targets this round, I didn't take into account all the eating out I had planned. So I will be more mindful of this in the next round as well as setting some extra goals to hopefully improve my food choices!3 -

Day/Weight/Comment
01/28: 156.0 On track yesterday. Got exercise in. Feeling ready and motivated for the next 10 days!
01/29: 156.6 Another solid day yesterday. Did a short yoga video. Feeling a cold coming on this morning which is just great. As if last week wasn't enough with sickness.
01/30: 156.6 Congested and puffy this morning. I know the scale will move eventually...
01/31: 155.8 Attepted to exercise yesterday but stopped 20 mins; just wasn't feeling well. Eating was good.
02/01: 156.4 Gah! My cold was better yesterday but overnight/this morning I'm worse. I think my body is holding onto water as a result. Frustrated.
02/02: 156.4 Late post for me as I unexpectedly had to take my cat to the vet and scramble for childcare! A little stress for Friday morning! I don't think I've ever seen my body hold onto "weight" like this when I'm exercising and eating at a deficit. I really think my body doesn't know what's what at all right now still since that virus last week. My gastro system is still a mess. Hoping that when my body finally regulates I see a big drop!
02/03: 156.6 Seriously.
02/04: No weight today. Spent the night an in laws. Will be up tomorrow as super bowl snacking will likely get me! GO PATRIOTS!!
02/05: Didn't get around to weighing in. Didn't eat great but not super horrible.
02/06 157.3 Really bloated. Hoping water and exercise help this out today. This round did not go as expected and ended in poor choices this weekend. I plan on buckling down the next 10 days.5 -

01/30 213.6... I'll take it. Even though I stayed under calories yesterday, I felt like I indulged, skinnytaste lasagna
for lunch, and blaze pizza for dinner (it was free pizza night! )
1/31 212.8.. movin' in the right direction !
02/1 213.0 my first increase in a while... Not worried about it = )..... Yet.

02/5 212.2 BOO! I didn't even indulge for the Super Bowl! I did cook a lot, maybe too much tasting = )
02/6 212.0 Well, TOM arrived early, and I managed to keep within my calories, even with the hungry horrors it brings... so I am good!5 -

01/30..144.4 Did 75 on ellip yesterday. Goal for this round is to getto or below 143.4- baby steps. Lots of stress in home life not helping lately
01/31...144.4 Did another 75 on ellip yesterday and ate well within macros. Today, gym.
02/01... 145 Went to gym yesterday and got a great workout in. Went out for a belated birthday happy hour and I'm hoping water retention from wine, etc is reason for weight increase. Today, a day of virtue. Happy Thursday.
02/02... 144 ok, down a bit. Need to lose .6 to reach goal for this round. Doable. Today, a pool class and perhaps some gym. Happy Friday.
02/03.. 144.4 Did a 45 min pool aqua aerobics yesterday. So much fun. Ae sensibly. No wine. 3 days left ot lose 1.1 pounds.
02/04... 143.6 Not sure why the big drop but I'll take it. Got chicken marinating last night for a great Mediterranean chicken dish that has green olives for dinner today. That and spinach for me and some rice too for the others. I'm prepared. Maybe the gym.
02/05.. 143.4 .. goal for this round. Now to continue back down. Yesterday, 35 min ellip, great workout at gym and sensible, healthy meals. Today, ellip and some chicken fried rice using cauliflower rice and lots of other veggies. New week, new enthusiasm.
02/06.. 143.6 was at goal for round yesterday... then a friend in distress called, had some wine with her last night but picked up salad with chicken for both of us on way over so I knew I'd be able to eat right. Did pool class yesterday, maybe gym and pool class today.4 -

This group challenge has really been helping me through the fluctuations. I had a really bad tendency to get frustrated and think that I'll never get there. Definitely getting stronger so the slow pace is expected. But I have been a bit lazy on my diet. If I want this I'm the only one who can do it for me.
Day/Weight/Comment
01/28 - 187.6 - Ordering some new clothes to replace worn ones. Hopefully that'll be inspiring.
01/29 - 187.6 - Holding. Though morale is good. Temps are back up and my Tshirts I haven't been wearing are fitting nicer.
01/30 - 187.2 - Training yesterday. Going to climb up our mini mountain today.
01/31 - 187.6 - Mountain did not go, met a friend for lunch instead. Training today.
02/01 - 187.2 - Training was cancelled so I did our mini mountain walk yesterday. Nice weather for it.
02/02 - 188 - Huh, weird. Did the mountain walk again yesterday. Going out tonight.
02/03 - 188.2 - Training and heavy eating yesterday. Digestion feeling slow. Probably should drink more water.
02/04 - 187.8 - At least we're going in the right direction.

01/28: 120.5 lbs. yesterday was my cheat day. This is what the cheat day did to my hardworking: gained 1 lb.
01/29: 121.4 lbs. hmm... I have done so well last round. Then I started a cheat day on last Saturday. I only had moderate carbs, but the damage is big. So, cheat day won’t work? Here is from Mr. Google: Carbs break up keto Cheating Affects Your Fat Adaptation. Your body has to make changes, such as altering specific hormones and increasing enzyme production, to optimize conditions for burning fat as fuel on a ketogenic diet. Having cheat meals regularly can prevent your body from continuing this process long enough to stay in ketosis.

02/03 143.1 (50 min elliptical; ate back all calories; still no TOM, but probably why weight jumped up this week)
02/04 144.5 (35 min elliptical; WAY over calories-like over 1000 over- TOM-gave in to serious cravings)
02/05 148.1 no exercise; no tracking; ate alot. So after about a month of almost daily exercise and netting 1200 calories my weight can go up by so much and so quickly. So do I have to net 1200 for life to not gain? Frustrated. I know it's water retention mostly, but I want to eat what I want ONCE IN A WHILE without worry. Twice now I've had weight swings of 7 pounds within the same 10 day challenge. Do I need a low sodium diet?
02/06 150.1 (Highest weight in a long time! no tracking , no exercise)
Gain of 7.4 pounds this round. Will drink lots of water and get back on track with logging, exercise, and drinking water. This has to be mostly water because though I ate a lot, it's was only 3 days of eating over a 1200 calorie net8 -

Hey, I’ll take it. *\o/*
01/29: 131.6
We ate out yesterday and I had a chocolate brownie (worth it!) plus I weighed myself before going *ahem* number 2, to be delicate. So I will be better hopefully tomorrow.
01/30: 131.6
Guess I’m just having a fluke or something because I did everything right yesterday. I do feel a little bloated so I will be drinking more water today. *shrug*
01/31: forgot to weigh but overate
02/01: 131.6
Rough day yesterday. My sprained ankle was feeling like it wasn’t healing right, so I went to the doctor. It turns out I’ve been walking around with a fracture for a month, and because of the location it’s going to take at least 2 months to heal. Good news though is that it will be less likely to roll from now on, as my muscles are having to overcompensate for the weakness and now they will be stronger (according to doc). Also, woke up this morning and I’m pretty sure I have the flu.
02/02: 131.0
Maybe being tired and ill has made my appetite go down. Regardless I’m down some. I have a reading tonight so this will me feel a little better about myself standing in front of a bunch of people (ok probably only 20 will show up, but still).
02/03: forgot to enter the weight, but it was 130.9
02/04: 130.8
Yesterday I ate TERRIBLY. Actually it wasn’t that bad compared to the family members I was hanging out with, who are all extremely obese and/or morbidly obese (which is fine except they aren’t trying to do anything about it). It usually takes 2 days for the results of my poor eating decisions to show up, so we will see how I am tomorrow. Fortunately/ unfortunately, I had to do a lot of walking (so I burned a few cals) as my husband and I were on the hunt for the perfect set of new dinnerware, which took us at least 10 stores to find. By the end of the day my fractured ankle was killing me and today I will be icing it and resting :’-(
02/05: 131.4
Woke up to weight gain...I was out late with some friends last night and we ate late at a gastropub. I don’t drink (because soooo many xtra cals) but I definitely pounded back a brownie. On the flip side: I woke up to find out that I’m being published in the 25th anniversary edition of one of my favorite art and lit mags!
02/06: 130.6
So technically I lost weight lol.6 -
