@lporter229 and @fitoverfortymom - Congratulations!! Awesome job both of you!
@Link2Life - I do both depending on if my nose is runny or congested. I do breathe through my nose though when it is not and I prefer that, especially the there are lots of gnats!
@elise4270 - When I was a kid I raced giant slalom and downhill. I would love to do that again and love watching it.
Had a terrible run yesterday with lots of interruptions and technology issues (phone, MMR, headphones, watch, etc). Today the run was much better and everything worked ok except I am still having issues with MMR not starting or pausing in the middle of my run and not restarting. Note I have auto pause turned off so I am not sure why it is pausing at all. Today I thought it might rain so was hoping for a rain run but instead got glorious cool windy, weather with lots of rain clouds coming and going.

@shanaber It was like that here all day too. When I was waiting for the bus it tried but it was only a few drops.
I skipped my run today. I'm dressed and all set up for weights but I keep putting it off. Ugh just gotta do it!1 -
@juliet3455 School sounds like it was awesome. Growing up in North Texas US, hockey was not a thing. We moved to Delaware as an adult where the kids in the apartment complex played hockey in the streets. Looks like a great game! In elementary years, we roller skated. Think I've ice skated less than a half dozen times. Never skied. A bit of skateboarding when we lived in California, I was not good at it. I was the kid going down the hill on my belly.
I watched the curling. It's cool. I'd play it.
Hope the shin gets better with some new shoes.0 -

@lporter229 Congrats! I now have puck-envy. Not something I would have ever thought I would experience in life, and yet here we are!
@fitoverfortymom Congrats, very well deserved!
This morning was a simple run; same route as usual, and now I get to ponder whether I run with the group tomorrow, or do a similar run as today because most of the group (from past experience) will probably drop out with the cold.

Catching up on the thread, I saw a few people getting new shoes, and mine are coming up to the 500 mile-mark. I still have a brand new pair of last year's shoe that I can use in a pinch, but my eyes were drawn to the new Nike Epic React Flyknit...if I can hold out until the 22nd, this shoe-porn is supposed to be released:

Back at it again! We took an extra rest day last week because I was feeling puny. I've been trying to avoid the flu since this year's vaccine is such a bad match (when they talk about flu being dangerous to people with pre-existing conditions they mean me) and people keep coughing on me wherever I go. Ate lunch at a restaurant, both tables to either side of us had sick people who kept coughing and sneezing. Went to the gym yesterday, only three other people there and two out of three were hacking up a lung, one guy was flushed with red weepy eyes and looked contagious as all get out. Stay home people geez! So today my throat is scratchy and my mile splits are slower than they feel like they should be. Keeping my fingers crossed but it will take a miracle to escape getting sick.
Just our usual 5k jaunt between parks, then a walk around the boardwalk. Nicely sunny but chilly. I got cold on the boardwalk and sprinted a quarter mile to warm back up. Also, I bought a running hat. I am not a hat wearing person but my face is getting tanned from running despite the sunblock in my makeup, and there was an under armor UV blocking hat on sale, so now I have a hat.

So, I may or may not have (*totally did*) signed up for another race between now and my April vacation. Which means if I run all planned races, I'll be racing four out of the next five weekends... and maybe even five of the next seven. But I'm supposed to be doing weekly long runs of (mostly) these distances anyway, so I might as well have a little fanfare and excitement, right? Oh, just shut up and take my money, and have my t-shirts waiting for me.
Rest day today. Hills tomorrow. Time to start really digging in for Sunday. It's supposed to rain on those hilly trails just about all day Friday and into the night. Then come the first 100 or so runners, making loops totaling anywhere from 13ish to 52ish miles on Saturday. Then on Sunday, we 5- and 10-milers take to the same trails. Might be a slog, but oh boy is it gonna be fun!!

@HRKinchen I've done that in the past. And I want to do it this year. Races are a way for me to make sure I get out. I need to feel like I have a reason to "practice" lol3

I traded Rest days this week because of raining weather on Sunday. To help make up for my Unplanned Rest days last week, I am running 4 miles each day. Next Rest day will be on Friday for race on Saturday. Today’s run was cold and windy. Ran this afternoon because I attended my nieces (twins) 4H show this morning. Tomorrow is Mardi Gras and most of the State of Louisiana is shut down for parades and celebrations. Today’s high was 49 F and apparently that is the low for tonight also. Windy and felt colder than 49 F run today.
My son is not adapting well to crutches and says he is not using them when they return to school on Wednesday. Doctor instructed to use them through Friday. His attitude is not helping the situation at all.
@lporter229 and @fitoverfortymom - Congrats on your finishes and bling!
@HRKinchen - love how the race director for Q50 races describes them as -ishes and not exact distances.
@Elise4270 - Figure Skating
Breathing question/topic - I usually breathe through my nose
GI issues - Have them if I have tried something new the night before. Make sure I go to bathroom before every run.
New shoes - I purchased some Brooks Adrenaline this month also. Discontinued model on a discount but so far they are good. I have ran in them before.
Upcoming races (Question marks are races not yet registered for):
Louisiana Marathon Quarter Marathon - 01/13/2018 - Done
Mardi Gras Mambo 10K -02/17/2018

Another San Diego run. Having trouble with being exhausted and sore feet/knees/calves so I went out 2 miles and then on the way back decided to stop and walk at just over 3 miles. Between the mental exhaustion of this conference and the soreness from the worn out shoes, I'm feeling beat. Even so, it was nice being outside in agreeable weather.
One more full day here tomorrow. Plan includes sitting in the hot tub at some point and/or looking into a massage.

Has anyone every done one of the inflatable 5ks?
A few years back I did a Dirty Girl 5K in Alabama that had obstacles and some of them were inflatables. It was after I just started running and I did it with a couple of friends who were also beginner runners. We just had fun with it. It was in February and it ended up being a chilly day -especially going through the mud pit that was waist deep!3 -
Logged 3.5 miles on the treadmill yesterday, alternating speed every minute between 4.0 (15:00/mi) and 7.0. (8:34/mi). Whew! Great workout.
My running goal is 3 "runs" each week, of at least 3 miles in length. For this week, I walked 10 miles (and, yes, counting it as a run) on Sunday and then yesterday ran intervals workout of 3.5 miles on the treadmill.
Am pleased to have accomplished yesterday's workout, as it was super tough to leave the office for the lunch-time gym outing.5 -
Oh dear, no time to catch up with you busy posters!
Good news - 5 miles before work! Hasn't happened in a while. Usually can only get 4 in.
Bad news - that happened because I couldn't sleep -- so I got up and did a lot of stretching and hit the road.
Going to Baltimore next week Tuesday-Saturday for a conference on comp sci education. Hoping the weather is nice for some runs! Been looking at running routes and it looks like there is a nice run along the Inner Harbor which is where I am staying.

3.5 very slow miles this morning. Woke up about 10 mins late (4:25am instead of 4:15am, lol) and debated even going. But then I remembered how much I'd hate myself for not going because I don't know what's happening after school today. So I cut my stretching routine short and headed out. You never regret exercise!
Great Job for getting up and out the door!!2
