2/1 - 4 treadmill miles at Trek Class. First three-day streak in ~4 weeks. I'll take it!
2/2 - Rest day. After streak, thought it was a good idea.
2/3 - 5.1 miles outside. Nice!
2/4 - Unplanned rest day - church activities + Super Bowl + sick kid = no workout / run
2/5 - Another unplanned rest day - sick kid is worse. Doctor visit, etc.
2/6 - Kid still sick and I'm feeling pretty lousy too.
2/7 - 4 treadmill miles and a nice upper body weight workout. I feel OK, kid a little better. Thanks for all the good wishes!
2/9- Kid back to Doc as strep test was negative. Influenza Missed any chance to run.
2/10 - 4 treadmill miles and a quick weight session.
2/11 - Spent morning digging out this week's snow.
2/12 - 4 treadmill miles.
2/13 - 5.05 treadmill miles at Trek Class, then upper body weights.

Today's notes: Woke up with a sore throat... yay... Decided that today was the day I was going to switch my hill repeats over to trail. Got to the ridge and started running, Got to my chosen hill and did my 10x2min hill repeats and ran back to the truck. I was kind of bummed. I ended up power hiking a little on some of my reps I NEVER power hike. Then I got to work and checked out the stats... yeah... Normal hill rep hill was a 3% easy grade.... In switching to trail I bumped up to 8%.... That may have made it a bit harder...LOL.. Pretty tired and kind of sick now, will have to see if I make it through the day.

Seems I might have found myself a cold. Of course everyone coming to work coughing with fevers probably helped. Nose is a bit runny and throat a bit scratchy taking my vitamin C.8 -
I’m jealous of those who are using treadmills or dreadmills as a lot of y’all call it. Lol. I woke up extra early this morning to get in some good stretching before going out but it was pouring so I did a little stretching then decided to watch Netflix. If I had a treadmill I could definitely do 100 miles every month since I rarely sleep, would definitely be safer than going out at 1 or 2 in the morning.5

HILLS! I haven't run Sunday's trails before, and I'm not sure exactly what to expect. I've seen an elevation profile (below), which looks more like molehills than mountains but will be challenging to a girl used to running flats. So I'm basically making up my TM hills workout as I go. Today was 1.75 miles running at quarter-mile inclines of 2, 0, 3, 0, 4, 3, and 0. All at my training standard 4.0mph. Not sure that approximates what I'll face on Sunday, but it was enough to be challenging without killing my legs. So I'll take it.

I never thought I'd want to run on the treadmill, and I still prefer outside, but some days it's a real lifesaver!2 -
I finally heard back again from Active.com and they said the premium subscription is not available to residents of IA or VT for legal reasons. They did not explain what the legal issue is specifically, and I know they have races listed here in IA. Hmm... oh well.0

My poor wife is trying to train for Pittsburgh Marathon (May 6th), but with the weather, and life issues, and now an injury she is well behind schedule. Two weeks ago she did run 19 miles at around a 14 min pace, so I think she still has a fair shot at a completion, but sheesh. Poor girl.
I also need to get her on some hill work though, or she will smash into the big hill at the half-way point and not be ready. Most of the hills on the course are normal kinds of things for this area, but that one at mile thirteen is not a joke.
*SIGH* I guess if we do not get the hill work in, I will tell her to fast walk that hill.

Odd. There was a Google App recently that would not work in IA also, had to do with privacy laws there. This might be related.1 -

@RunsOnEspresso - We finally got rain last night while I was at agility class with Hobbes the Vizsla. Fortunately it was towards the end of class and he got all of his runs in before it got too bad. Once we got home and pretty much late into the night, it really poured, which no one was expecting. This morning when it was supposed to rain more it is bright sunshine! So that rain may now be heading your way
@polskagirl01 - Have fun with that night race but be careful of the ice!
@ddmom0811 - The inner harbor is nice but Baltimore has some notorious bad areas. May want to check your route with the hotel staff. Also if you have a chance go to the National Aquarium. It is in that area and really nice.
@abutcher2122 - The rain was something wasn't it? Way more than they thought it would be. I have a gym membership at a close Planet Fitness ($10/mo) for just that reason - I can always go there at any time and run on the treadmill. Usually it is when it is too hot though.3 -
@shanaber, it actually didn’t start raining by me until about 11 and of course it stopped at 4:30 which would have been enough time to get up and out but by that time if I’m not out I won’t go. Lol. I’m not one to pay attention to the weather cuz this is SoCal and it changes so quickly. Reminds me of living in Denver where you could be bundled up for the snow at 7am and by 10 the sun is shining and the snow is about gone and then the rest of the day involves removing layers. Lol. I’ve thought about a gym memebership but ultimately it would just be a waste of money plus I don’t like working out around people. I’m a sweaty hot mess. Lol.
@HRKinchen I prefer to run outside too. I think I’ve only ran on a treadmill maybe 4 times ever and I hated it but back then I was playing basketball so running in place was boring.2 -

First time in ages that I've done any kind of focus on pace and boy did it feel really good! My 4th mile was over 2 minutes faster than my 1st. Woot!
Also, I did a thing. It is my bday month, and you only turn 35 once, right?!? I probably shouldn't have, but I've had the original Vivoactive non-HR for quite a while now, I've already replaced the strap once, and I decided to treat myself to an upgrade. Ahhh, I can't wait until Thursday!!!

@juliet3455 I used to figure skate and curl so I'd love to do those again. The snowboard slope style looked pretty neat too.
I am still not running, the foot/ankle are feeling better but I don't want to re-hurt it by doing something too soon. Maybe by the end of the week I'll be out running/walking again.3 -
Again, not trying to catch up. Just a quick check in. Work is keeping me super busy, and I haven't gotten many runs in. I did run 5.5 one day last week (can't even remember what day that was), and got in 6 miles over lunch today. Slim chance that I'll make my goal this month, but at least it isn't due to injury or illness.

Has anyone every done one of the inflatable 5ks?
A few years back I did a Dirty Girl 5K in Alabama that had obstacles and some of them were inflatables. It was after I just started running and I did it with a couple of friends who were also beginner runners. We just had fun with it. It was in February and it ended up being a chilly day -especially going through the mud pit that was waist deep!
The is one here in Alabama in April and it seems like a good transition back into racing just to get my feet wet and dust off the cob webs lol1 -

Then I typically think of the 5K as an interval workout: 4800m at interval pace, plus 200m at rep pace. I find myself passing some fading runners in mile 3, because I'm trained to go much further than 5K and I only have to hold a fast pace for a little while. And yes, it's hard; but it's not really that much harder than, say, 2 x 2 miles at threshold with 2 minutes recovery. Which is one of the speed workouts I've done in marathon training.
At least, that's how it went when I was healthy. I hope to get back to that again.
You know... I wonder how far gone you have to be to do the same kind of warm-up for a Marathon.
The shorter the race, the longer the warmup. For a marathon, we don't need no steenkin' warmup. The first 10K of the marathon *is* the warmup.8 -

Everywhere else it's just Tuesday, but here it is Marci Gras! Thankful for the end of Carnival season but especially thankful for the end of King Cake season.
To Day was a State Holiday for me, so I slept in and ran late this morning. What a day a difference makes - sunny, hot and humid weather today. Most of y’all just want winter to end, I just want the weather to make up its mind what season it wants to be in Louisiana!
To catch up on my monthly goal for my miles - I am thinking about running on Friday morning before my race on Saturday instead of it being a Rest day. I have ran the day before a race and as long as I finish 24 hours before race start I seem to be okay. Does anybody run day before race day? Only a 10K.
@HRKinchen - I will be purchasing a -ish shirt in March!

Today's notes – It was 11º F when I got up this morning. Next time I looked at the thermometer, it was down to 9º F (-13º C). Brrr! Fortunately, it was up around 20 by the time I had to leave the house, and a heat wave all the way up to 32º F = 0º C by the time I got out to run.
Set out to run 5 to 7 miles. Felt really good, as good as I have since last Tuesday. At 2.5 miles, it was decision time; instead of turning to stay on a 4.6 mile loop with options to tack on extra late, I committed to the 7.2 mile loop. By the time I ran 5 miles, the leg was telling me, "Sure, I'm good for another 2 miles!" That was still the case at 6 miles, and I got to thinking about time. So I tacked on a loop of a bit more than a half mile to get back to my driveway at 59:57, and kept running to get an hour in.
I could have run 8 miles today, but an hour was the psychological goal I pointed at. Today I ran for the longest distance and longest duration of any run since I hurt my quad. The leg isn't perfect, but it was close enough to really enjoy running today instead of just being concerned about not damaging myself. I feel good enough to turn this into a 5 day running week, but since I'm running a bit farther each day I think I'll be conservative on the days front and take a rest day tomorrow. Maybe next week I'll back off a bit on the daily distance and go to 5 days. I'll have to see how I do between now and then.

Every time I see this tag line, I think about you being a charity fund raiser. Except that's not the path to Disney World, it's the path to Boston for people who can't BQ on race results. (Alternatively, you might say I have to run a marathon fast to get to Boston because I'm no good at raising funds.)1
