Another new runner here! I just finished week 5 of C25K today - 20 minutes of run time with no walking break! It was slow (possibly got passed by a turtle at one point), but I did it! I'm setting a goal of 25 miles in March. Looking forward to following along here!
Welcome. Your goal is great! There are a lot of very experienced runners here and a lot of runners from all experience and ability levels. If you ever have any questions about running, just ask, there are plenty of folks who will give you great answers.4 -

I need to get trail shoes and I'm at 300+ miles on my road shoes, so i can at least get my trail shoes in store and then have a sense of what my other road shoes options are. I love the Nimbus, but kind of want to try something different. I like the cushioning, but want less drop.
I am actually looking at ordering the Altras Long Peak 3.5 with their 0mm drop for my first set of trail shoes. I just wish I could find them someplace in town to try on.

I've been running in Altra Loan Peaks, when I want more cushion than my Superiors offer. The Loan Peak is a great shoe and 0 drop is awesome. I'm slowly trying to get all of my shoes to 0 drop.1 -
In for 65 miles this month. Barely missed it for February since I missed a couple of my runs, Will probably be at 62 miles after tonights run, oh well.5

That's the shoe I'm thinking of as well. I tried them on in an REI and I'm half tempted just to get them. Very comfy. I have wide feet, and there's definitely the room I need. Bonus: I can get them in purple!

Also, does anyone use lock laces and what's your experience with them? The flat laces which came with my Brooks are driving me berserk - they have no give at all and don't adjust when you move, and I have to practically unlace my shoes to get in and out so I have to try to adjust them perfectly every time. And if I slightly miscalculate my toes fall asleep.
I use the coppertone dry spray (spf 6, 8 or 30). For my face I suck it up and use the pastey 50 spf coppertone or such.1 -

I'm not going to have a mileage goal in March. My goal is to get my ITB healed up and run as much as possible.11 -
@rheddmobile I swear by P20. It lasts all day and is pretty damn water resistant. A lot of divers swear by it, as it won’t run off into your mask when it gets wet.
Just make sure you let it soak in for a while and don’t use white towels!!!!2 -

@juliet3455 Surprisingly, for as much mud as there was on the course, there was no epic mud pits to be found. There was a large portion of the course where the heel of my shoes were being sucked down with ever step, but my heel never was pulled all the way out. I expected to get blisters from this but it never happened.
@rheddmobile someone gave me the great idea of stopping by a self-serve car wash and using the high pressure rinse wand and that worked wonderfully. They actually look like new! Of course, they only had 44 miles on them before the race so they are fairly new.
@katharmonic I was so lucky with the showering. I booked a private room via Airbnb and by coincidence, the host and her partner were also trail runners and had run races out there. When she found out I was running that race, she offered to let me come back to her house for a shower post-race. What an angel!! I just stood in there for what seemed like forever until ever cell of my body was warmed back up. One of the best showers of my life for sure.

@MNLittleFinn when I heard about the 50% dropout rate I did think about you and your 100k. As I recall that had a similar dropout rate.
@kevaasen there were several times I just had to laugh at the situation I was in, what i was doing, and realizing that I not only chose to do it, but paid to do it. Then I would usually start trying to stomp my feet in the deepest, sloppiest mud holes I could find. My inner child just took over.
The day after I got home, my wife caught me pre-rinsing my socks in the kitchen sink. She was not pleased.

Good planning. I never set my goal for what I think I'll do. I set it for what I think I can do for sure.
For me the next two month's goals are totally just to put something out there. I have no actual mileage goals.1 -

I do not think there is. I emailed them, and they told me the Long Peak 3.5 was about as wide as a 2E, but runs small so get a half size up. So I might just order them from Amazon (who offers free returns if they do not fit) and hope for the best.0 -

Well, i have the 3.0, but from what ive read, there weren't huge changrs made. I'm bringing at least 2 pairs to my april race and will probably be wearing one pair to my race in 3 weeks, so I'd have to say I think they'd do well. I have the superior too, but the Loan Peak is sturdier and has more cushion. I'll probably be switching to all Loan Peak, as money allows

First run of the month. Was running a bit late so opted for a 5k fartlek. Looking back, probably wasn't the smartest thing to do first thing in the morning... By the time I was in the groove home was only 1k away

Do they have a hidden store-retailer that's not advertised? or are they strictly on-line?
I have a hard time buying a new shoe ( new to me ) on-line with out being able to take them for a test-compatibility run. The Speed 5 and Trail T3 look interesting, just not sure the Toe Box is wide enough.0 -
Still new to running as I’m only 7 weeks into C25K but I’ve found a love for it. Started running three days a week in January, started running daily towards the end of February. Running is becoming me. I ran 33 miles in February. My goal is to double that and meet this NRC goal of 62 miles.

I'm in for 45 miles. I failed last month due to flu but hoping to be well enough by the weekend to get out running again.5

@girlinahat - don't give up that marathon area so easily! It may just be a bit further out in the future once they get your thyroid under control! It can still happen, you can still make it happen!
@JessicaMcB - love the colors of those shoes. I too wish they had a location I could try them on like @juliet3455. Maybe though I will just give them a try though when I need a new pair assuming they have a decent return policy if they don't work out.
@fitoverfortymom and @PastorVincent - I have a love hate relationship with Altra shoes... Not many stores carry them and those that do like REI don't carry the less cushiony ones I would want. I have bought them online and every time the sizing has been off. I do love my Skoras - they are also zero drop and more minimalist but have a great wide toe box. They were unavailable for about a year but are back in business now. You can only get them online though too.
@7lenny7 - I did not see that my post was edited... hmmm I don't think I said anything bad but will have to go back and take a look now. Love that you went to a car wash to rinse off your shoes! Brilliant idea!! Socks in the kitchen sink - not so brilliant
@Teresa502, @rheddmobile and @PastorVincent - I just ordered a pair of lock laces and a pair of the Xtenex laces that @_nikkiwolf_ recommended. They should arrive tomorrow and I am hoping they will help with my toes/forefoot falling asleep
@rheddmobile - I only use the Neutrogena sport spray. I am very fair skinned (red head) and I need to use it all the time when I am outside, not just for running. It works great and doesn't feel gross even when I sweat a lot which is most of the time.
@sarahthes - That weather could make it ugly to get to the race and 'fun' to run in all that snow...
