I have been participating in this thread for years and have found the support and encouragement a key part of my journey to health and fitness. I hope you will join me and find the same joy.
The name of the thread is "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome.
We talk about weight loss and fitness and the ups and downs in our lives that affect this journey. We try to stay away from topics that might be controversial or might offend others in any way. Kindness is important.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.

Okie, my goals all look like the ones from the month before and they all look like the ones from the month before that. Staying consistent with a good plan has helped me build a better life.17

Happy March ! Almost here! Will retype tomorrow since just deleted everything!
Prayers and thankfulness!

February Highlights:
- 200 km Randonnee (timed long distance bicycle ride)... actually 215 km completed within the time limit of 13- 1/2 hours with almost an hour to spare. So it ended up taking us 12 hours and 35 min.
- February Century - my 14th in a row. We've been cycling one 100-mile ride each month for the past 14 months. This was also the 200 km ride mentioned above ... two birds ...
- 57 Hours and 35 Minutes of exercise! Better than my last couple years!
- Over 700 km of cycling outside. My goal for this was actually 600 km, so 700 km is great!
- A 5-day cycling tour in Victoria
- Finished my 7th University Course, my 3rd of the particular level I'm hoping to complete soon, and started my 8th Uni Course, and the 4th and last one of the particular level I'm working on.
Starting to tick things off my Goals list:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Machka9/view/goals-for-2018-944264
March Review ... (Distances include cycling + walking + a bit of running)
March 2015: 489.8 km (304.3 miles) = 38 hours 4 min
March 2016: 917.73 km (570.2 miles) = 66 hours 13 min
March 2017: 1113.2 km (691.7 miles) = 78 hours 25 min
Looking Forward into March 2018:
My goal for March 2018 is something over my March 2016 total.
As it happens, March is shaping up to be insanely busy. I continue to work full time. I will be in the thick of another university course. And we've got more rides coming up than I actually feel comfortable with ... and we're organising and riding 2 of them! This means that I've got to get busy and finish organising them this weekend. I've also started stepping up my training. Sleep? What's sleep?

Thank you for continuing this thread!
FEBRUARY goal was to log my foods every day. I hit the mark about 90% but did log in more often than if I hadn't made it my public goal.
MARCH I will:
Continue to log my foods every day, and
Post something every other day, even if it's to say "Hi."

Hi everyone,
One day at a time. One goal at a time. Building a healthy life one day, one step, one brick at a time. Love it!
Recently I realized that when I encounter a temptation in the form of a piece of food (a bag of chips, a box of chocolates, whatever), I have an opportunity to make a choice. And the choice I'm going to allow myself is to choose to either have none or have one. It used to be all or nothing. Either don't have any or have a larger quantity. Since it is a pain to log little items that aren't important, and every calorie ought to be nutritious on the reduced calorie diet I am on, I am thinking twice before eating and logging has truly stopped the old binge eating pattern for me. But I recognize that allowing myself some kind of choice may be more realistic than always "no" and it is less black and white which may be good for me. I am going to try this for a while. And whatever I eat, I am logging. That is no choice. Apparently because unless I'm logging I exhibit poor insight into how much I eat, poor choices as the quality of the food and the quantity, and I just gain weight and gain weight. Logging has helped me to consistently lose and it has the potential to help me consistently maintain once I reach the place where I don't need to or shouldn't lose more.
So keeping in mind the above and my continued calorie goal of 1200 per day (give or take a little), here are my goals for March. Thanks for listening!
1. Breakfast daily with some protein and fiber in it.
2. Keep sugar down to keep hunger down.
3. Keep fiber intake up. Keep protein up.
4. Log every single bite and complete log daily.
5. Treadmill daily for at least 5 minutes just so I keep remembering it's there and get my blood moving.
6. Pilates class twice weekly unless there is another obligation that forces me to skip.
7. Personal training once weekly.
8. Find my missing Fit Bit and start logging steps again. Start working toward 10 k steps daily.
9. Do some major cooking and meal prep at least once or twice a week to make the meals easier.
10. Continue to weight myself at least weekly and log it in to see what happens!
I hope to find more friends on here. Not sure how to ask someone to be a friend. Do you have to be a paying member? Do you have to know the person's email?
I am a relative newbie. I've been tracking long enough to know it is working. I think I lost 11 pounds so far.

My "word" for the month is "self compassion."
Margie from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA12 -
I’m not great with setting these goals- and I didn’t set any in Jan or Feb. But I have a few for March.
Get serious about recomping this body and getting more fit: so Hula Hoop for 15 minutes 6 days a week. Strength train 3x a week (up from 2x). Swim more regularly (try to find a routine and schedule that swimming fits into instead of random and haphazard swim sessions). Eat at maintenance in March except for a Fast Mimicking Diet 5 days.
My word this year is “strength”.9 -
Barbie- thanks for taking such great care of us!
Mary from Arizona7 -
Thanks Barbie, you're a rock.
March Goals:
Weightlift 3 x a week
Run every day 30 mins to an hour (Set alarm and get up early to run before day drama starts)
Follow Ernestine Shepherd's diet as closely as I can
Set up Movie Room with machines so I will burn off tv cals
Cook Rice and sweet potatoes in bulk twice a week
Have as many peak moments every day as I can!
Wendy8 -
Hearingyou2, welcome and jump on board. We are all headed to a lower place on the scale. Most of us on here I think, don't use the "friend" option much. We all just chat in a big group here, rather than in one on ones. Just let us know what your name is and where you're from so we can remember you better and address you when we want to make a remark. Wendy (New Zealand) I rarely put that!
I'm just off for a bike ride with Jock, my foxie jack russell cross.6 -
Barbie, thank you for March's thread.
Margie, there is no paying involved in being on MFP or any thread on it. You can click on peoples names and send them a friend request or personal message. This is just one big friendly group, no real need to "friend" people individually, we all will support, comfort, and commiserate with you, and we will even give you a kick if you ask us to!
Well teeth are brushed and my calories are under for the day. I didn't even count the 30 min that I was on the treadmill. I did count the elliptical trainer tho.
My goals for Feb were:
1. Lose 6 lbs down 1.4
2. Stretching exercises every day missed about 10 days when I injured my back
3. Track, track, track did most days, did better than Jan, but still not every day
4. Go to gym 4-5 days per week did good except for the 10 days when I injured my back
5. Get more sleep by going to bed earlier yeah, not so good there.
So all in all, while Feb was not the greatest, I think it's something I can live with. Oops, battery is about to die, hope everyone has a great day!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island9 -
March Goals
1. Ease back into the Keto diet.
2. Kettlebell Workout 6-7 times a week.
3. Swim and hot tub 4-5 times a week.
4. Hike 3-4 times a week.
5. Maintain weight around 125 pounds. +or- 5 pounds.
6. Log food daily.
Word for the month- grace
Quote for the month- "for nothing will be impossible"
Mary from Arizona11 -
Oh yeah, I forgot! One more goal that I had was to weigh myself only once per week and I managed to do that! I was very tempted a few times, but I resisted!
I will be attempting the same goals for March, we shall see how it all works out!
Becca, my younger son is 29 and, as far as I know, hasn't settled on one woman yet. He lives a few provinces over, so don't get to see him much. I do like your idea of the business cards! lol
Evelyn, Vancouver Island6 -
Wendy - Some movies I like are WarHorse, Wild Hogs, Bad Moms and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Heather - The house sounds perfect for you. Hoping everything goes as you want.
Mary - Vertigo sucks.
Dana - I'm sorry the last 2 years have been so tough.
It is a great and wondrous thing to have your own dance party.
I took this day slowly.
The meeting was okay but I have received the bad news that Short Term Disability was not grandfathered in on my benefits. I can keep my benefits for now by giving them postdated cheques . Hmmm....not sure how that will work if I am on another program.
I will go to Alberta Works in the morning and start the balls rolling.
It was weird handing over my keys and knowing that it will probably be permanent. My boss put his foot in it again but whatever. There are still people that I care about there and I wish them nothing but the best.
I'm still not sure how I feel although there is definitely some relief.
Jheri and I shared Pad Thai for lunch. She talked enthusiastically about the experience at the gallery. Others had warned her that not all the paintings she took down would be chosen and not to take it personally. She not only had all those chosen but was asked if she had any more at home if so go get them. So now she has all her flowers hung on one wall and all her bees on the other. Theme complete. They had what they call a showcase open so that is where the other paintings are. "Speak Freely" the Mother Naturey painting along with 4 animal paintings. An owl, a butterfly, and a fish. I can't think of the other one. 20 paintings in all and the curator said this is a strong show. At this art gallery a woman once spoke condescendingly to Jheri about her window painting and face painting and said it wasn't anything that could be taken seriously or you could make a living with. What do you say now B**ch? Don't mess with my Warrior Princess because you have yet to make it into a gallery.
We then went to the Tourism Centre because Jheri wants to rent the board room for a children's event. My friend, Jo-Anne runs the place. Jheri did not realize that she knew the person she has been conversing with.
I did take Harmony to dance. Kim complained about my son all the way there and all the way back. I told her I don't want to hear it and that Harmony certainly should not. Grrrr.....she makes me MAD!
Sharon in Lethbridge hoping the snow forecast is wrong.10 -
Sharon - sorry to hear about the short term disability. Exciting about the art gallery! I definitely understand about hoping the forecast for snow is wrong! I don't have to worry about that anymore.
Mary from Arizona6 -
Thank you, Barbie, for setting us up for success for one more month! You're such an amazing human being.
My word for 2018 is/was, "balance." Trying to find that in all things.
February was successful, as I came out lighter than I went into it, in a number of ways.
March's goal is to see Onederland by the end of the month.
I'll be traveling all the last week - NC to El Paso to NM to Midland, TX, back to El Paso and finally back to NC in a six-day span, so accomplishing that may be tougher than usual--as it's 7.3 pounds away. But, I'm setting myself up to get there, and I shall soldier on, so to speak.
My insomnia is kicking in again - when I'm not sedating myself with food, my sleeping gets completely erratic. Trying to get in a routine, but easier said than done.
Our son is headed for Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Tuesday and is setting himself up for success (it's a theme!), has a room rented, and an interview right after he gets there, and hoping for good things for him over the next month or two. Hopefully both Corey and I, but certainly I, at least, will be there six weeks later should things go south. Can only hope for the best--he has to make things happen.
Daughter is headed for the field Friday, won't be back until the 15th, so the two of us are all alone for two weeks. Oh, except two grandkids, two massive dogs, and two cats. Should be interesting. She'll be back a week, and then I turn around and leave for a week. So March should pass quite quickly. Then my vacation days begin April 13, and I have until the 22nd to get to Arkansas and get settled in. If the current renters on the house get out as planned at the end of next week, and the make-ready takes a week, the timing should be just perfect for the rent to begin just as I get there. Hoping they'll mail a key, so I can stay there the night I get there, but may ask the property management company for assistance with someone to get the electric, gas and water on. The nearest hotel is nine miles away, so may be there a night or two before I can get it all settled. Hope not!
The biggest thing I'm hoping for is that our son-in-law gets his early return date from Syria of April 3, and returns safe and sound, so my husband and I can travel together and I won't be alone and wading through all of this. But necessity will win out, in the end.
Here's to a lovely and peaceful March for all of us, and for the situation overseas, as well. Nothing like hoping for world peace for personal reasons!
Love y'all,
Lisa15 -
Thanks BARBIE
Welcome anyone new
off to gym now
Kate UK10 -
Happy March everyone
Lisa You must have a bullet journal or a to do list made of gold to keep all you do chugging along! I'm also dealing with insomnia but at least I'm sleeping 5 hours straight. That is the minimum to keep me on my feet.
Margie Welcome, love your goals, you are inspiring to me, your plan is laid out so clearly, WTG
My February goals were well met, except for exercise, didn't get in 5 days a week like I had set out. So here are March Goals:
*Exercise, move, walk, at the gym or outside, fit it in even if it is for 20 minutes
* journal every day
* Mark my calendar with my accomplishments
* * no eating after 7 p.m.
* Stretch yourself to do something you aren't that comfortable doing (maybe even a little afraid to try)
The little signs of Spring are just around the corner, every bright sunny day reminds me that the toughest winter months are almost behind me......can you tell how much I hate the winter ?
Take care everyone, your support and wisdom are a lifeline to me.

Good morning! Ugh! Sore throat and slight ear pain in one ear. It started yesterday, so I was going after it with saline and a decongestant. Kept me up most of the night; along with dreams that I was eating oatmeal (which I hate). Woke up this morning to no pain in ear and throat but swollen throat; that explains the "oatmeal" feeling. Sent a warning text to my parents, letting them know what I am dealing with, just so they have the option of not having their child around me. I am sure I will end up with all six of the kids, though, as they ALL have had gunky noses and coughs for a few weeks now. I guess it is my turn to have the crud. Using my entire arsenal of meds and home remedies to get rid of it. It will not stay. It will not stay. It will not stay. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)11

OKay, I noticed that you posted right as I was hitting the "post" key! You are so full of hope and happiness for March and I started my post with "UGH!" I promise that it will be a great month. Just have to get past this crud! Love you, Carol!8 -
Happy First Day of Autumn! (March 1) ... we have such short summers here that it is a bit sad when autumn comes. However, fortunately, our autumns are usually quite nice.
Machka in Oz8 -
Hi everyone!
My word for 2018 is "Embrace". It's turning out to be just about spot on!
Snow here, but we have it easy compared to other areas of the country. Very cold. Brrrrrrr!
For my bonus calories this afternoon I'm going to do kettlebell swings.
I still have 2+ lbs to lose to get back to maintenance, but I have lost 3+ since Jan 1st, so I'm delighted. I've lost half an inch here and there, so some of it must have turned to muscle. It is glacially slow though when you are this near your goal.
Thank you Barbie and everyone for being such great companions on my journey to health and happiness.

Happy 1st day of March to everyone. I've done well for 10 days in a row and it feels terrific. It's been a long time. I have a checkup March 12 that I've postponed several times, so I have to go. Having "scale dread" already ... Just going to do the best I can between now and then and the number is what it is. It won't be what the doctor wants, but it will have nudged in the right direction.14

Good Morn.....here we are ,another new month!Funny how slow days can go,then boom! We’re another month down the road.
We have had too much sickness in our small family, now son in law has been in hospital since Monday.
DD was talking to him & noticed his words were not understandable.
First thought was “stroke”& she called EMTs.They gave him med & off to hosp they went.He was given a huge dose of same thing, but all it did was cause him to sleep around the clock. All tests show nothing. So guess they are just letting him sleep.Gonna be $$,but ?
Poor guy.....just finished chemo 2 wks ago.
Never rains, but it pours. My word is Moderation...in all things.
Heather, the house is lovely & so welcoming.
Fingers crossed it works out.Won’t your sweet Grands be happy to have you near by!
As usual,my rememberer has given up.
Good luck
to all.
