I exercise as part of my weight loss plan and fitness goals. With that factor in the weight loss equation, I need a good energy source. So I care about the nutrition component of the calories I take in.
To go on and on about all calories are created equally on a health and fitness form seems ironic. That is like saying all inches are created equally, and then that there is no difference in an inch of steel and an inch of wood. An inch is an inch, right?
Eat less and burn more. But do yourself a favor and eat food that supports the “burn more” aspect of your fitness plan.
Let me guess.
Didn't feel the need to actually read the thread, located in a debate forum, where all this has been hashed out ad nauseam already.

@TriShapeMFP Just out of curiosity, how much of this thread did you actually read?13

Instead of weight loss... how about weight gain? How do I do that without increasing calories? Can I just eat 3 protein shakes per day and gain 15 lbs over time? Or just some carbs/sugar/junk and gain? Will that lead to actual gain without being in a surplus? So all those bodybuilders that have to make gainer shakes to reach 6K cals per day, we could spare them by just giving them some carbs? So it only works in one direction then? I am curious if anyone has an answer for me.
I've had versions of this conversation with vegans who claim it is impossible to gain weight while being vegan.
Me: "So what you're saying is that it's not suitable for children or anybody who wants to gain muscle weight?"
Them: "What?"
Me: "Well, if it's impossible to gain weight on a vegan diet, then it would be deadly for children. Children need to gain weight. And bodybuilders and others looking to gain muscle need to gain weight to meet their goals. So you're arguing that eating animal products is mandatory for children and required to meet certain fitness goals?"

Aw, thanks!
And you have the best first name (if it is the one in your user name) though you do spell it wrong
It's a whole different name, but my parents picked an unusual spelling . . . so I am spelling it wrong (at least according to popular opinion). I picked "Jane" because I actually love it. It is what I'd name myself if I had the chance.6 -

You didn't read the rest of the thread did you? Everybody cares about nutrition and a calorie is a unit of measure that is the same unit no matter what you are measuring.
By dropping in and posting what has been posted and clarified multiple times it's clear you don't understand the conversation.14 -

All calories are equal from a health and fitness standpoint. If you'd read the thread, you'd realize nobody is arguing this means all foods are identical when it comes to macro- and micronutrients.
All inches are equal. An inch is an inch, whether it's an inch of cotton candy or an inch of gravel. Only a fool would hear someone say that and insist they were hearing "Cotton candy and gravel are the same thing."

What if my goal is to gain? And I have so many calories to play with? Surely I don't want to burn more in that case.
Also I consider fitness a huge part of my goal. Sometimes I don't have to chose the most nutritious option.. sometimes I want cereal, ice cream, candy, what if those foods actually help me with my workout performance, adhere better and help me stick with my goals long term.14 -

You just have to watch your macros closely. Think of gasoline as more analogous to carbs and diesel being more like fat. If you're looking for something meatier, use straight unrefined crude. Yeah, dead batteries are a bit like that cheese that stayed in the drawer too long...
As far as the Uranium - it tastes a little sweeter than Plutonium, with a hint of mercury.
 I hadn't considered the macros on it. Great point. Nutrition is important (for health purposes and satiety, not weight loss), just to tie it all back into the theme of the thread.4 -

See, you're confusing the two topics. From a CICO perspective, it's irrelevant if you drink diesel/gasonline/unrefined crude. CICO <> BTU counting.4 -

I mean, as long as you have some blogs to back you up and a lot of CAPS LOCK in your posts, who could possibly argue with that?
Just make sure to be smug about how enlightened you are and how everybody else is mired in "old science" and has their heads stuck in the mud and refuses to see the genius of your plan. Disregard any and all peer-reviewed research. Then and only then can you supersede all the laws of physics and leave reality as we know it behind. How awesome will it be to lose weight while eating a massive surplus (or gain huge amounts of muscle while in a massive deficit, if that's your thing), defy gravity and be immortal, all at the same time??? :drinker:10 -
