I wouldn't consider myself bulky at all, but I do have a decent muscle base and curves which I worked hard in the gym to build over many years with surplus (bulk) cycles. I also keep my bodyfat levels more in the fitness or high end of athletic range.
When people who lift flex, you can better see their muscles. I personally love to see people show off muscle, but some may be intimidated by that and it can put them off lifting. But see when I don't flex is what I look like most of the time in my everyday life. Lifting and building muscle has made such a difference in my confidence, my strength, my aesthetics, my outlook on food and eating, it has been so healthy for me all around.

This is an awesome contribution to this thread. Also coming off some threads I have seen recently discussing flex/non flex, and certain looks that are intimidating to women who may be afraid to pick up heavy things and put them back down.

So, this isn't a traditional post in that I'm far from looking as hot as you girls up here so far! However, for all those girls who want to wait til after they lose weight to start "toning," you're wasting your time! It's never too early to start and keep the muscle you have.
My picture is my progress picture from my 6 months here on MFP (180 days) which is actually today! So far, I've lost just shy of 50 lbs. I started on strength machines in the gym then moved to doing StrongLifts 5x5 at home and really lifting heavy. Tell me which chick in the picture looked "bulky" and which one looks like she's on the right path

6 pounds to go until I hit my first goal weight. I've been strength training for two years, including through a pregnancy. The first picture was post-partum in May 2017 after gaining 55 pounds. A cool lesson on muscle density: in the second photo I was the same weight as two years prior, but my waist was 2 inches smaller and hips were 3 inches smaller. Keep lifting!

I just started lifting heavy but i am considerably bloated. Looks like gained a lot of weight.

Okay, question for fellow women lifters...so lifting definitely isn’t making me bulky, but i think it’s making me veiny. Anyone else notice this? I mean, I’ve seen those ropey veins on male lifters’ arms, but never really thought about it until I started seeing visible veins everywhere (mostly legs, arms, hands). What the?!? I had a full cardiac work up for other reasons and they did a venous ultrasound and nothing was wrong. Just blue veins everywhere. Might be the only side effect of lifting I don’t like7

I don’t mind that much in the arms/chest, it’s more the legs. Some are the bigger ones, some small. My legs look like a 70 year old’s (well, a pretty fit 70 year old without the crepey skin) or a road map of NJ. And the freak forehead veins. I could do without those too. I look like the Bruce Banner right before hulks out (yep, giant nerd )

Same. I get super excited.
The fat isn't hiding them anymore. That's why they are visible. If they bother you, @gradchica27, get a tan. They'll be less noticeable.7 -

I’m finding anytime I attempt to do weights my wrists hurt. I always make sure that I have proper posture and I pay attention to my technique and correct it.
I don’t use anything on my hands or wrists. Is here anything you can use to help with this?0 -

If you are dead lifting, use wrist straps (the ones that loop round your wrists and then wrap round the bar - I have to use those or my forearms/wrists/hands just give out.0
