June Self-Care Challenge

Thanks for the great idea.
Yesterday I went to sleep early, since I had less than 5 hours of sleep the two previous nights. Normally I would tough it out, and possibly make bad eating decisions.
Today is time at the gym, and will try one new machine in the spirit of self care.6 -
Yesterday I did some research and learned about blanching and freezing extra kale (I am ashamed to admit I've let kale go to waste when I didn't know what to do with it). I blanched, shocked, drained, and dried chopped kale and froze it in portions in snack-size ziploc bags. This morning I threw one frozen bagful into my usual smoothie. I felt so virtuous and healthy!4

@donimfp Thank you! I had never heard of this!!
How can I use part of an avocado & not have the rest go to waste???1 -

Breakfast outside with DH prior to heat building. Remained outside posting to MFP!
Self-care later today is veggie grocery shop & preparing salads for the next 3-4 days so it’s THE easiest thing for me to grab & eat at lunch hehe
Also cleaning/chopping the veggies I cook. I eat more of them if they are ready!!
Also, I’m going to pre-cook some proteins - freeze some - for the salads. I find if I have them pre-cooked, I eat and love them, but if I don’t I go with milk.
Also, planning an Epsom salt bath as the heat builds in house late afternoon with my fun magazines.
A fun day!4 -
Pre-cooking proteins is a great plan! I usually do some chicken thighs and a pork tenderloin for sandwiches. My go-to salad protein is poached eggs.
We ran today. It is hot. However, taking a cool shower when I got home felt delicious.
I bought some melt-proof summer makeup and my eyebrows and eyelashes didn't budge even after doing errands in the heat. Great improvement, my previous stuff worked beautifully in the winter but sweat would have it dripping right down my face which is not a good look on anyone. It's also so subtle that it doesn't even look like makeup unless you know how patchy my eyebrows are usually. They got pretty raggedy when my doc was adjusting my thyroid meds.

It's Sugar brand arch arrival brow definer - I actually got it in an ipsy sample bag and liked it. Ipsy is a thing I did for myself a couple of months back - I hadn't really messed around with makeup much for a couple of decades, since being obese I never felt like I looked good anyway. So ipsy was a way to try new stuff and get up to speed.0 -
I've been feeling down lately, especially on the weekends, so after running errands all morning, I decided I needed to do something fun. My self-care today was going to see "Book Club". So glad I did.6

My self care today was going for a run and a long walk and then having a lovely afternoon and eve with friends and a bbq3

Joined the local library summer reading program. Signed out a ton of books I probably wont read, but I loved being in the library.
Had a peaceful meditation for 30 minutes. Went to a party and had some root beer. Back home, windows open on a cool spring evening.4 -

Loved the May thread. Thanks so much for keeping this going.
Even if I don't have time to post in here, there are things I do every day that I think count:- I always do a run or a walk, and get my 12,500 steps up for the day. That's my sort of "meditation".
- I do a short breathing exercise which is something I've been practicing to control anxiety.
- I have a bath every day, rather than a shower, because it relaxes me (and it's easier to shave your legs ).
- Even just going on Facebook to see what my friends are up to and leaving some likes is something.
This month I've joined the Handstand Challenge, and so far I've practiced for 5 minutes three days in a row.7 -
Coloring with the kid5

Today I stopped and got myself a coffee while running errands, which I've been trying not to do recently to save money. I also didn't set an alarm and just woke up naturally this morning which was really nice.7

Did 15 flower planters and my entire food garden today, not because I had to but because I wanted too, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment today. Good for the soul9
-
Started (yesterday) to do the physio stretches that I know are good for my lower back again. Hoping to do them every day.

I'm in !2

I went to bed early even though I had plenty of work left to do. Might not seem like much but it's a big deal to me -- I usually push through even though I'm exhausted.8

June 3: Relaxing morning outside - pleasant weather & a nice breeze. The bougainvillea is dazzling! Lots of bird sounds fluttering, dog barks, kid sounds... truly such an amazing addition to our lives - at no cost - just a new way of using space/time. I’m finding I’m much more relaxed outdoors than indoors.5

Caught up with a friend while we walked for an hour at the park on the trail. For me, my girlfriends are essential to me. I love them and we can tell each other anything.6

Found the perfect area rug for my new screened porch (aka mosquito-free zone—1st summer to have it after 11 years here) on Craigslist for only $40 and took a pleasant Sunday drive to get it. All kinds of happy!6

Wow. I really need this. I'm in!3

3rd June: What a nice weekend. Today, i went on an hour long walk while listening to a new podcast series5
-
Bought myself a new loofah and started dry body brushing, something that I hope to continue daily. Skin felt wonderful and alive.
Feeling blah today, grey outside, but forcing myself out on a walk - it always makes me feel better and it truly is my meditation.9 -
Today was a rest day for me. Enjoyed myself looking at vintage clothing online while sitting outside - it's nice weather today for a change. Did my fingernails. I also learned a new thing - how to tell the difference between bumblebees and carpenter bees, and that the bees in our garden are carpenter bees, which are not aggressive, which makes me happy because I am allergic to beestings. They keep flying in and out of our storage room and are no doubt making holes in the shelving somewhere which is not optimal, but at least they aren't likely to attack anybody. It turns out male carpenter bees, which like to fly up to people in a threatening way, don't even have stingers! and females are shy and avoid people.

Cleaned the house today and planning on walking later3

i love stationary & notebooks and spend far too much money on that sort of thing, but i found out a special notebook i’ve been wanting for a long time was now available, so in order to justify it ($30 for a blank notebook) i walked the hour & a half to the store, and hour & a half home! So I got some exercise on a beautiful day and also now have a gorgeous new notebook! (that i will never write in, just keep on the shelf with the other 80+ that i’ve collected and cant bring myself to write in lol.)9

Tried Body pump (beginner weight lifting class) even though I was scared to death. Spent a relaxing Sunday with my boyfriend6
