What nobody tells you about losing weight

I hope that what I say makes sense!
I got a terrible sunburn and I feel...puffy? Like, even 15 pounds ago if I got this bad (or worse) of a sunburn it hurt, yes, but I didn't feel swollen or anything. I may just be having a fat bloaty few days, but only the sunburned parts of my body are affected.
Anyone else, or am I crazy?6 -

What I call the "forearm hack" is proving to be true as I lose weight too.
An Explanation: To see if a pair of pants are going to be worth trying on, instead of putting it in front of yourself and wrapping around your hips ; You make a fist with the dominant hand, and place your forearm and elbow into the waistline. If it fits your arm, it should fit your waist. I had a coworker show me this one time. I thought it was bull crap at first, but lo and behold it has held true since I first tried it for myself years ago. Even as I have dropped sizes. Even as I have been the same weight but a bigger size. Apparently, your forearm and elbow carry the same body fat percentage as your hips?? Has anyone else tried this I wonder?? I have always wondered if it's one of those weird universal wierd body things, or if it works for some but not all.
Not Universal, unfortunately. Way off for my pants. That is far too big for my waist and too tight ( even for stretch material) for my hips.6 -

With all due respect, pretty much everyone in the maintenance forum told me that. 4 months since hitting goal and I am still a diligent tracker and still below goal. Your experience is what what happened to me in the past but I didn't nip in the bud. Good on you for staying on top of it by monitoring weight closely.9 -

Try on JLo brand. I'm Latina and have the same issue - itty bitty waist, big butt. They are cut for more room on the butt and a narrower waist (I can usually find them at Kohl's so they are not expensive). Also, I reaort to a size up in "midrise" that tend to sit on my hips.6 -

The forearm hack does not work for me. But if I open my fist and stick out my fingers it is a match though.3 -

Is the fist going in the waist line or just forear to elbow? Also I feel like there would be a different between high rise, mid rise and low rise too.2 -
I have these stretchy shorts I wear under skirts and dresses to prevent chub rub, creeps and wardrobe malfunctions. Of those three, chub rub is thankfully the most pressing issue. Lately, the shorts have been riding up because my thighs are smaller, and the shorts themselves are now starting to contribute to chub rub. Might be time for some smaller shorts.
Where did you get these shorts?? I'd love to wear more dresses but the chub rub is real!!0 -

Bicycle shorts from Walmart have been helpful for me in this situation when my thighs were bigger. They tend to stay in place and not rise up. And yeah, the chub rub sucks!2 -
How much easier it is to be out in the sun all the time, and how more relaxed you are not continually sweating your *kitten* off !
YES! (I know this sounds evil.. BUT it’s coming from gratitude toward my hard work and not boasting) I went on the lake with an overweight friend. A friend who is equally as unhealthy as I used to be. And she almost had a heat stroke! After we got her to safety and my mind settled I realized I was warm but I didn’t even realize it was THAT hot. My body regulates temp so much better. I’m so hydrated and I kept replenishing my lost nutrients by snacking on veggies, instead of the junk food snacks that typically accompany a boat ride.
Later my friend asked how I knew what to do with her body while she was fading in and out, being too hot. I realized what I was doing has become “common sense” to me. I understand the human body so much better now.
I’m super proud of how far I’ve come and the person I’ve transformed into being.36 -

I live in Finland so the stores are different - I don't remember whether I got mine from Gina Tricot or Cubus. If I had to shop in the US, I'd probably start at Walmart. They're basically just leggings cut to thigh length. Super comfortable and practical, but hands down the ugliest garments I own.8 -

I wear men’s boxer briefs. Champion ‘tech performance’ boxer briefs to be specific. Stretchy and form fitting comfortable thin black material. I no longer need them for chub rub but still wear them under the skirts in the summer because I feel more confident if a draft does lift my skirt, I will still feel clothed. And they don’t add any bulk to my body line! Unlike Spanks or the like they are not in the least binding.
And @blg0524 good for you!10 -

Yes. back of knuckles to back of elbow slides into the waist band of the pants. I'm not sure if there is a difference between different rises or not. It's just kind of a general thing I use if I'm too lazy to grab a bunch of sizes to try on. Or if I want to buy them and try them on at home. It kind of gives me a starting point. If I can stick my forearm & fist in it, it is likely I can get the pants on. Whether or not they will fit properly or if they will look good is a different story. I guess I got my answer that it's not very universal though! Another check I didn't even think about until just now is to take the thigh part and wrap around my thigh in the store.I don't always do this, it depends on the pants. But I have historically had to fit the thighs first, waist second. So I look for stretch denim, and "Curvy fit" as automatic go to's. Sadly my favorite place to buy them (Vanity) went out of business.

Wow according to this apparently I have giant arms😂😂?? Because I definitely can't fit my arm from knuckles to elbow in. Its more like elbow to a bit more than wrist.
I am quite pear shaped because my hips usually are at least one size bigger than my waist, so I search for super super strechy shorts or ones that are quite tapered. Definitely will check out the JLo brand!3 -

I bought these thigh bands off amazon that are pretty cool and work pretty well (though I don't wear a lot of dresses so YMMV, of course). In fact, I'm hoping to one day feel comfortable wearing a dress, but I gotta stop hating on my legs first, lol. Anyway, they're lacy/black, so kinda pretty. I can't wait to lose more in my thighs. @GOT_Obsessed @hipari & @ryenday Thank you for all the advice! I'm in Ireland so no Walmart etc. for me but I'll definitely start looking at cycling shorts and men's boxers :-D1

@OHammykins I put them on and they worked for me. Now, I did not use them all day, granted, so I don't have the "all day use" metrics to give. But they fit and they stayed up for the short time I wore them!2

My butt fits a size 8, my waist fits a size 4. JLo brand size 8 actually fit my butt and waist!!! They get a lot of negative reviews as they are really designed for women with tiny waists compared to thier hips and thighs.11 -

I’m so excited to learn about these. It is quite a haul to Kohl’s but next weekend I hope! My waist (12-13 inches smaller than my hips) has never been in a pair of pants that fit - pants are always many inches too large at the waist and snug on my hips . Wearing size 6 usually right now, will be fascinating to see how these Jlo brand will fit.7 -
That your birthmarks might shift. I've had a birthmark in the centre of my elbow my whole life. It's now moved significantly to the left29

These are called bandelettes and they are amazing! I've got naturally big thighs, even when I was smaller, and chub rub has often been a problem. I got a pair a couple of years ago and have worn them a reasonable amount, and they're so very very good. Seriously, I can't recommend them enough.8 -

I would recommend the plain ones not the lacy ones - the plain ones work great so long as you get the sizing right but with the lacy ones I just got chafed in the pattern of the lace 😅14 -

Whups, I didn't think about that. XD So far, I've not used them for any significant amount of time (too scared of dresses and feeling like my legs are gross). I will get some of the plain ones, too. XD4 -

Huh, I've got the lacy ones and I've never had this problem. Different legs I suppose1 -
There was cake in the break room at work today. Served myself a small portion and was going to log it honestly. Took one bite and threw it out, it was way to sweet for me! Trying to get the sugary taste out of my mouth- who would've thought?25
