GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Woo!
Ahem.
Ran a nice 1.81 miles this morning. It was sunny and cool, below 60 for the first time in quite a while. That got me to 50 miles for this month, four miles more than my previous monthly miles PR (last month, hah) with three running days still to go in July. Boom!
I spent some of the last couple of days going back through the challenge posts and linking my running updates to their respective days in my fitness spreadsheet because that’s the kind of nerd I am. First sentence of first comment in a challenge post: “Oh wow, this thread is huge!” It’s hard to believe that it was just the end of April that I was “work[ing] up to two runs [a week] of about a half hour each” and had set a PR for weekly distance at 6.75 miles (longest run: 2.67 miles). I’ve doubled my weekly mileage now and am going to try running five days a week starting next week (longest run: 7.01 miles).

@shanaber I'm down for the Packer 5K meet up next year! Already have it on my Google calendar of races I would like to do.
Had that inner dialogue with myself this morning: "Get up and run. No, sleep in. No, run. Sleeeep...ruuuun". Got up and ran, late, so I suffered the heat, but I ran.
Yesterday on the weather, the weatherman said the dew point in Tampa reached 80! "Pretty much as high as you can go on the charts!"
Run time: 0814 hours, 85*F, 77% humidity, 77 DP
July goal: 20 miles
7/2 - 1.62
7/4 - 1.70
7/5 - 2.10
7/9 - 2.00
7/10 - 2.01
7/12 - 2.15
7/14 - 2.03
7/23 - 1.63
7/27 - 2.20 - 17.44 done, 2.56 remains

But I won't judge you for skipping the cheesecake, as I'm at a healthy weight too, and still want to lose about 3-4 lbs (still within the range of healthy). I get it. Congratulations on your achievement!
Today... weird that getting up at 5:45 felt like sleeping in. I did a little over 10k, then showered, changed into a clean set of sporty clothes, got everything I needed for the day into my running backpack, and ran about a kilometer to the main road to meet my ride to out-of-town work.
On my run this morning I saw what I thought was a dog crossing the road in the distance ahead of me, so was ready to be on the lookout for it. Turns out it was not a dog, but 2 of the biggest hares I have ever seen. They were huge! I stopped and just stood there watching them hop through the field away from me. Then as I ran off, I thought about how if I'd stayed in bed, I'd've missed seeing them.

@amymoreorless nice job running in place
@PastorVincent maybe Amazon thinks you need help hiding your purchases from your spouse
Great distance PR!! @zdyb23456
@rheddmobile I know the feeling when I look at other people’s run, so I just look at the people behind me ha ha there is a lady in town in my AG who freaking runs like a 5 minute mile, really? I told a race director recently my only hope is she moves away
@Elise4270 you look great!!
@sarahthes great looking place to run. I love the trees.
@marisap2010 nice new shoes!
Holy *kitten* @Scott6255 that is way hot
I have a bike I’m going to start using it more. Skip’s bike we found in the garage is at the bike shop getting a tune up. It’s an awesome mountain bike just perfect size for her. I rode it 3 miles the other day, shifting from 3 to 2 wasn’t too happy but it got there, otherwise a beauty. She told the guy at the shop that she has no meat on her hiney so she needed a better seat, so he’s hooking her up with some $50 wonderful seat ha ha. She can pretty much bike all over town at school and on lots of great trails so this bike will be better than my mommy bike she’s been riding.
@mbaker566 what a sweetie she is.
I missed the post about the Packer 5K is that in WI? I assume, when? Maybe I can find my way there
Skip's been reading about ice baths and the benefits after training, she rode 7 or so miles on her bike yesterday and sat in an ice bath for 8 minutes after (the PT recommended it too). She ran for 10 minutes this morning and came back in the house without pain (yeah). I'm also happy to report the pit bull that attacks us a couple years back while we were running that has caused me to walk my poor Macy in circles instead of going passed their house moved out today !!! yeah!!!8 -
@shanaber @dreamer12151 etc
packer 5k was July 21st this year. so i guess it will be July 20th next year.
i posted a few pages back that there are some nice parks in the area (trails)
there is a hard trail run (cliffrunners 10k) that sunday (assuming they keep with the same weekends they did this year) by at high cliff. high cliff state park and has some gorgeous view on the cliff
also "nearby"Devil's Lake which is a very popular day trip location. Mirror lake is nearby.
going around the bay there is potawatomi state park, cave point county, and whitefish dunes
when i want west coast vibes i go to door county. it's also my annual half marathon.11 -
@RunnerGrl1982 Don't worry! Slow first miles happens to us all, and it's totally a thing in running.
And it sounds like you've also got some sort of natural "intervals mode" thing going too!
Thanks for that! It's nice to hear from other runners that this is something that is normally happens. It helps put my mind at ease that I'm not doing something wrong. XD
I'd like to give my body credit for instinctively having an interval mode, but I think it's more my cardiovascular system can't keep up. LOL. I'm still trying to find a running groove.
I'm all over the place to be honest, because I'm always waging war internally to finish with a good time, when I just need to focus on getting the miles in and not concern myself about how fast I'm completing my run. It's something I need to work on. Even on my recovery days, I'm still wanting to push myself. So annoying. LOL Perhaps one day, I'll be able to find the 'off switch' to my brain when I go out and run.

@MegaMooseEsq great job on your distance PR. You are really improving quickly!
@skippygirlsmom so happy Skip's last run had no pain!3 -
Too late to edit my previous post, so....
@AprilRN10 good work on meeting and surpassing your goal!
@PastorVincent nice that you found your running gear. I know you are dying to get out there. But all that time working on the house is earning you good brownie points with the misses
@garygse go ahead and give yourself a break, you deserve it with all those hot, humid miles.
@RunnerGrl1982 that is something many of us struggle with. It's good to be competitive, but I hear what you are saying. I too have to work on that constantly. Not there yet.
And congrats to ALL of you who have surpassed your monthly goals. It was a real challenge with all this heat (well, for many of us anyway).
Good luck to all that are racing this weekend!!6 -

Well I woke up and my quads were pretty sore. So 15 miles were a little harder on my legs than I initially thought.
I headed out a little after 9am and it was HOT. I started run/walking after 3.5 miles and I’m glad I took water with me. I felt like a furnace, radiating heat! I was dripping sweat like crazy. I really need to get a sweat band or a buff like I’ve seen mentioned.
We have to drive back to NY for a funeral so I’ll take advantage of the cooler weather and run Sunday morning. Saturday and Monday will be spent in the car driving all day.

Rest day today. Did a bunch of boring life maintenance stuff.
Darn Tough has changed the administration of their warranty. In 2016, I mailed them 5 pair of worn out socks and they mailed me back 5 pair of as close to the same model as they made. In 2018, I mailed them 3 pair of worn out socks, and the emailed me a code for $66 off at their web site. There was only 1 pair of socks on the web site for $22, and it was quarter length as opposed to the micro crew I shipped back.
So . . . I looked around, found some $16 quarter length that I thought I'd like to try for summer, and got 5 pair. Paid $14 (plus the postage to return the original 3 pair.) The bad news is, it wasn't a straight trade for comparable socks. The good news is, I wasn't fond of the color pattern on the 3 pair I shipped back anyway and now I can try quarter length for the summer. Oh, well. The company has to make money somehow, and it still beats just buying all new socks.
I'll probably sunburn my ankles by going to quarter length socks in August after wearing micro crew length through July.
Re: Slow first mile. That's why we do a 2 mile warmup before a 1 mile race. Even guys I know who focus on 800m races do 2 mile warmups.6 -
@sarahthes I'm with you on the "too hot to run" part...early morning starts are no longer cutting it right now!
I had to cut this morning's run short after the heat and tiredness started to take too much of a toll. It was 90F at 3am with no breeze, and after mile 11, it was getting harder to breathe so I made the call to head back. It didn't seem to help that sprinklers were going off in many places, and the water was actually *very* warm, giving a hot mist to run through that added to the humidity.
Looking forward to a couple of days off, and the much cooler temperatures predicted for next week!

Hey all, way behind so will go back and read.
I'm feeling awesome, I went out for a 10k long run and it was awesome! And I killed my PB. I'll just leave the pic below...
I also realised I am definitely over weighing in on scales. In the last month I've only lost 200gms (about 0.5lb), but I've lost 1" from my bust, 2" from my waist and 3" from my hips. And pretty much the only exercise has been running and occasional lifting sessions. So today I say screw the scales! Lol

Very slow 10.11 miles today. After traveling this week for work, eating things I normally don't eat (eggs, cheese, pork rinds), having problems with my CGM, and just being exhausted; I'm going to sleep in as long as I want tomorrow and hope to feel fine for my long run on on Sun.
