@mnbvcxzlkjhgfdsa12 was asking about apps for speed/interval sessions. He/she is doing C210K and wants to improve their 5K time.
I suggested joining our threads, and asking about apps in here.3 -

Absolute disaster of an event this morning. Was entered in the Xterra trail mid distance event - about 12.5km. Had a 9:45 start but was an estimated 1:15 drive away. Consequently, picked up my friend nice and early at 7:30 and headed off.
I had punched the destination into my navigation system 'Reid Road, Otaua, Auckland' and the address shows as Waikato instead of Auckland, but I knew it was close to the border so thought little of it. However, my stupid system won't just take a road name as a destination - it wants a number. The event was in a forest at the end of Reid Road, so had no street number. I randomly punched in the number 1, thinking that if it got me to the road, that was enough. However, by doing so, the system then plotted a route to a different Reid Road, one actually in Waikato. We only realised our error after overshooting our exit by a good 40 minutes or so (and the navigation system trying to get us to leave the expressway at a non-existent exit). I probably would have twigged earlier but we were busy chatting.
Did a quick U-turn and headed back. Had about 30 minutes before the start of the race, navigation (phone this time) tells us we're an hour twenty out. My friend was entered in the short distance, which was due to start at 10:30, so we knew it could be hit and miss if we even made this one - our navigation was to the end of Reid Road - we then had to drive for 5km down a forestry road, speed limited to 30kph. Put my foot down, broke a few road rules, made it with just enough time to switch to the short distance. The run from the car park to the registration tent served as a good warm up!!
Absolute debacle. But at least I got a run in, even if it was 5km shorter than planned.

@katharmonic Congrats on the sub-30 5k.
@sarahthes WTG on the trailrace, hope the elbow heals quick.
@rheddmobile co grats on the PR.
@MobyCarp You survived, that's all that counts.
@noblsheep awesome pic!
6.23 running the Tweetsie Trail in Johnson City,TN this morning. Thank you so much @Teresa502 for the wonderful suggestion!.3 warmup and cooldown walks for total of 6.83 this morning 44.65 on endomondo and 6.2 treadmill miles=50.85/50 mile goal.😃5 -
@Avidkeo That's brilliant that you lost so many inches all around! Who cares about the scale? What you are doing is obviously working
@RunnerGrl1982 Congratulations on running 5 miles!! You had a really great running month
@sarahthes Sounds like a real adventure 10k! Congratulations!!
@kcs76 lol, that's great about the Mr Softee truck
@noblsheep That's a really beautiful picture of the great wall! I went there once, a couple of years ago, but there was so much smog I could hardly see the next 50m in front of me (the guide unerringly kept going on with his standard talk about how the wall coils majestically into the distance like a sleeping dragon, despite the fact that we couldn't even see from one tower to the next...). Wish I had had a view like that!
@rheddmobile Sounds like an awesome run
@katharmonic Great race, congratulations on the AG placement!
@Orphia That's a great serious of time improvements on your park run times! Next week will be fast 4km?
@MobyCarp That sounds incredibly tough! A 6 hour cutoff for a 10k, yikes. Some road marathons round here have 5 hour cutoff times...5 -
Thanks for the comments on potential triathlon training
@girlinahat I struggle to find a tri training plan I like. I spent have the day yesterday browsing the net, but I didn't find anything that has a decent amount of running combined with absolute-beginner amounts of swimming... The only two things that came close are this article: https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20799338/how-to-train-for-a-triathlon-and-marathon-in-the-same-season/ - not a plan with concrete times or distances, more a way to structure the week. Or maybe https://www.halhigdon.com/training-programs/more-training/triathlon-2/ , but I would go for a longer run on the Saturday at least, I don't want to lose all my running fitness...
I'm sure private crawl lessons would be the best way to learn, but they are crazy expensive! I only found two offers, one was 70CHF for 45min and one 90CHF for one hour (=53/70 GBP). I might get one session with a trainer at some point, but I first want to get to the point where I can already crawl a bit better than now, otherwise I think I'll waste my money. I know the theory, but it will take lots of practice to do arm stroke AND breathing AND leg kicks at the same time!
@shanaber Thanks for the advice! I really need to work on the kick. When I'm swimming back stroke, I think I'm actually doing it okay - I can do a lap or two without arms on my back just fine, but once I try to crawl I think my entire body position is horrible, and I don't get any forward momentum from my legs at all. I tried two laps (50m each) today with legs only, while holding a board with my hands, and it is ridiculous how slow and out of breath I was. Practice, practice, practice, I guess...
@Elise4270 The pool doesn't allow flippers or snorkels, unfortunately. Only very small boards or pull bouys, "as long as you don't obstruct anyone". So I bought a combination "kickboard" thingy now. I would love to be able to use a snorkel with it for practicing the leg movement, but they have a lot of lifeguards around making sure people stick to the rules *sigh*
I went swimming again this morning. Again 800m, first two laps breast stoke, then two legs only, two arms only, two breast stroke again. 5 minute break, repeat; only the second time around I tried to do half a pool length crawl for each of the last two laps. I kept thinking I should look for a 25m pool, then I would get to take a lot more breaks!
No running today, swimming tired me out more than expected, and I'm still planning to go climbing tonight. But I ran a nice 11km yesterday. Half of it in the rain, lovely! The second half, after the rain had stopped, was in 95% humidity, that was a bit less lovely

July goal: 80 miles
7/1: 7.6 miles

7/10: 4.5 miles
7/11: 4.5 miles
7/12: 4.5 miles
7/15: 8.3 miles
7/17: 4.5 miles
7/18: 4 miles
7/19: 4 miles
7/22: 7.5 miles
7/24: 4.8 miles
7/25: 4.2 miles
7/26: 4.5 miles
7/29: 3.3 miles
86.4/80 miles
I skipped my long run today, but I did run 3.3 miles. I wasn't sure if I would run this weekend or not since it is my family reunion. But I woke up earlyish so I went ahead and ran a short run. 3.3 was really nice since it was already 81°f so a long run would have been pretty tough. I would really like to run out at the lake, but there are really no good trails to run out there so I stayed close to home and went to the park and the cemetery. I did see a nice jackrabbit there.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K11 -
Ugh....11.13 miles this morning. Honestly didn't think I was going to make 5 miles. It felt so hard, but I just kept telling myself just 1 more mile. Then around mile 6 started feeling better. But it was slow. I think I am going to forget how to go fast if I keep this up. I know, I know...trust the process.
@kgirlhart that jackrabbit pic is funny. I saw a similar rabbit today, but it was standing on it's hind legs and looked like a mini kangaroo.

@ContraryMaryMary sorry for your navigational difficulty - glad you made it for the shorter race. You were probably pretty fueled by adrenaline at that point!
@mobycarp congrats on getting through a tough race.
@noblsheep amazing picture and what a cool opportunity to run there.
@scott6255 I felt like that today too. Felt so slow and hard. Good job pushing through the tough miles.
Lots of people making their goals - congratulations!

Today's long run was tough after the 5k yesterday. I was tired and woke up thinking "didn't I just do this?". I hate having to do my long run on Sunday. The weather was good though and I met up with two different groups of friends who helped the time pass. I meant to get 13 miles but I was already a little late for a coffee meetup and I just didn't want to run another step so I called it good enough.
From yesterday and today, I've got a pretty good blood blister on the big toe joint side of my foot. Probably from my new shoes, but I otherwise love them so I'm hesitant to give up on them.

Thanks for sharing that Kevin. That so odd that thats how I've naturally swam and have had to retrain myself to swim. My dad was in the Navy, so maybe that's just how i was taught to swim. I'll definitely be revisiting it.1 -

Nice run with Skip at the Greenway. She was supposed to run 20 minutes or until it hurt, at 37 minutes she said she was starting to get a twinge so she walked the last mile (she obviously can't tell time). She was happy to get in 3. We both are signed up for a 5 mile trail race on Saturday, she placed in the previous 2 in the series but is thinking future instead of present and sent the race director a text this morning saying she would like to volunteer to be the sweep of the 5 miler or any other volunteer position he needed. At first she said she was just going to go out and take her time, then she said she would race to win she knows she would so this will make her not do that. She could probably be first female in this race.
@MobyCarp I just read your post on your 10K wow, that is some course. Great job getting it done. A cut off time of 6 hours for a 10K sure speaks about the toughness of that course.
@sarahthes I commented on your post on FB but I wanted to say great job to you here too!
@noblsheep my friend just returned from China and went to the Great Wall. Amazing
@Orphia stupid dogs. It looks like the pit bull that attacked me, Skip and Macy that lives up the road is gone. They moved out on Friday. The dog was still there Saturday but I went by today and pulled in the driveway and he didn’t come to the fence losing his freaking mind so I guess they came back for him. Yeah!
@ContaryMaryMary sounds like something I would do, glad you were able to switch to the shorter distance and still get it in.
@Scott6255 great job toughing it out mile by mile
5 -
@noblsheep - awesome picture! I hope to see that in person someday. And yes - I have checked airbnb but there's just not a lot of options in the Keys, which is partly what makes it so expensive.
@kcs76 = "Mr Softee Truck" - hilarious
I didn't think I'd make my goal - but with two days to go - it just might happen!

Oh, I forgot to mention I saw one of the rarest sightings a Texan can see on my run this morning....a LIVE armadillo!! I mean, that is like seeing a unicorn13
-
Just popping in real quick, Toddler wrangling, working summer school and coordinating a house sale are keeping me way too busy. No way I can read 1200 posts I missed. Had a race yesterday, it was a great day and a good day to run. I hope everyone is having a Runderful day and a Runderful Summer13
-
So, it’s another gorgeous day here. So, I tried again at my trail. I still am definitely missing a bit, but I did manage to pick it back up today after wandering aimlessly in the woods for a bit. Which that also caused my feet to be wet much earlier than I planned on. And since the trail is a “lollipop” loop in theory... and I’m missing a piece of the stick, when I got back tothe point where I had my bearings again, I just clambered up to the road, rather than wander again. I played leap frog with a deer for most of my outing and it was beautiful scenery and weather... but I’m not really sure it was a run, was moreso a wog/hike/wandering aimlessly in the woods.
There is another trail head I want to try. I would have to make it an out and back, as I’m not yet awesome enough for a long enough run to make it a loop. But that one may not be a run either, the bit I’ve seen, goes straight up and straight down.
4.7 today =41.6/ 50. If the next two days weren’t just totally insane, I would say that hitting goal was still a possibility. But, unless I have some serious insomnia running club meetings, I do not see it happening. But, it is the highest mileage month I have had in a very long time. I also foresee some Romwod in my future.5
