Anyone have any leg before and afters? Especially if you had the type of leg that is narrow at the ankle but then gets wider and wider all way up, with no dip at the knees? No knees I’ve been told my legs will look the same even if I lose, and that just crushes my soul. I have to have hope! Please share your leg success!

Hi there!
At the start of my weight loss journey, I just assumed that I had big knees that were unsightly. I'm liking them more now that I've gotten to maintenance. (Edited to add: I'm 5'3.) I'm not sure if I fit exactly what you're looking for, but this is my before and after: leg edition. Best of luck to you OP! Feel free to add me as a friend.

I'm terribly interested in this post as my legs are the things I'm most concerned about. I have no idea what I'll look like at maintenance, but right now I still have toddler ankles. XD
I have dreams, hopes, desperations of no longer having ankles that look like they belong on a giant toddler. I want womanly legs and ankles!2 -
@AnnieGottaRun thank you for sharing ! Your legs were cute before, now they are gorgeous! So strong looking, and normal knees! I’m 5’ 5” , so close enough to be relevant, I’ve got 80 pounds or so I’d like to lose though.2

I think that it is essential to accept that, whilst weight loss can make us happier, fitterr and healthier, it will not necessarily turn us all into supermodels However, while we cannot change the shape determined by our skeleton, excess fat will go - eventually. Trouble is, in my experience it goes from the less critical places first and the places we most worry about last. @GoodLardy - be assured that, if you still have 80lbs to go, there will be definitely be some improvement And as a result of your endeavours your health - and legs - will benefit from there being that much less of you. Keep on trucking - your legs will thank you X12

Everyone is different, but for me at least, the shape of my leg stays the same and looks the same, but the actual size has gone down. And my jean size has gone down. Just the way it is for me.
Don't let it get you down. Keep going forward and try taking measurements of your legs periodically. Thighs, knees, calves and ankles. That may make you feel better about your legs!
Best of luck!2 -

Thank you for your advice, it does help! The truth is , what keeps me going, is that this is for my health. So though I hate my legs, I’ve no inclination to stop working out/ eating better. But I do get sad when I see these tree trunks. If at least they can become smaller I’ll be okay I think. I’ll start measuring for proof. I’ve said for as long as I can remember, I only like my legs when they’re over my head because they look so much better that way than when standing up!1 -
The title of this post made me think of the Rod Stewart song “Hot Legs” but with the lyrics changed.
As of yet, my legs are still fat. So I cannot hep you. Carry on.1 -
One thought. I've already seen at least a dozen people today with their ankles and calves showing and I could not tell you if a single one had fat ones. I can however tell you who smiled or had something interesting on or something to say. Sometimes our obsessions really are just 'ours' Happy Trails.16

Oh, it’s not ankles and calves for me. It’s the entire thing and it gets worse as it moves north. But I do understand what you are saying2 -

Sadly mine are the exact same shape. Only slightly smaller. But I do have to say that the muscle is starting to show more and I've actually gotten compliments on my legs for the first time ever recently. That's after two years of recomping.

I think you have lovely legs!3

Here's a post from someone else where there's a definite change in legs. I've been using my recumbent bike every day for most of the year and I can see good muscle definition when I lie down and raise my legs (the fat rolls down and covers it when I stand up) If you have fat legs now, losing weight must change them surely!

I can only speak for myself but my legs only got worse as I lost 100 pounds. You can see a pic of them in my success story from a couple weeks ago. It's the first time I let anyone see them. Just had a thigh lift last week. I cannot say how the results will be as it's kind of a crap shoot with this surgery. Hopefully for at least 75% better than they were. I think you really just have to wait and see because I think most of it is genetics. As my surgeon says, my skin is like parchment paper and very difficult for him to work with. No matter what, being healthier will be best for you in the end. Keep a positive mindset, work hard at your goals, and see where you are when you get there. No sense worrying about it just yet. 😊
Here is the link to my thread if you're interested.

Along the lines of what mom23mangos said, I’ve seen success from recomping/building muscle.
These pictures are actually around the exact same body weight. Before I started lifting/about 3 years of lifting.

Your entire shape has changed so much! Such a tiny waist and strong beautiful legs! Very inspirational to me.1 -
you can do it! for me it was all about the legs. LOL. I am 59 and short. Lost about 30+ pounds last year. I never actually expected to lose the cellulite which had plagued my legs since I was in my 20s and of course it was absolutely the LAST thing to go.

Not to be creepy, but I zoomed in on your before pic, and oh my gosh! Those are very similar to my legs ! Except picture 80 more pounds on them. I’ve never seen legs like mine on anyone else. That gives me much hope. As long as I keep up w the cal count and exercise of course.1 -
I encourage you to follow a structured lifting program that include lots of squats and deadlift. It helps the shape not to mention strength, which is of course crucial to long term health, balance, and mobility.3

Right now I indoor row, and follow a dumbbell program and it includes many compound movements. I do this three times weekly and it also includes deadlifts, squats, etc. I use dumbbells that are probably light for most but still feel hard for myself. I’ve been watching ads for second hand barbell equipment. It’s not feasible for me to go to a gym with work schedule and family commitments. Which is okay w me, I like working out at home. I’m not tempted to skip workouts this way. If I had to workout publicly I probably would be more likely to miss workouts. Hopefully o can find equipment and progress from my dumbbells.0 -

Not creepy at all. And I actually did not expect my legs to get better. I have some loose skin mostly I think because of my age but Lorrph is correct and it sounds like you are already on track with that. I think that running helps me a lot. I started with the couch to 5K program. But if you have a ways to go then walking is probably better to startwith so you don't overstress your joints until you are down a little closer. Also with 80 more you may end up wanting to get some surgery - esp if you are younger - but everyone is different. Once I hit my goal last year I made it my PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to maintain for at least a year before I was critical of my skin or how I looked. I never thought I would wear shorts again (and I might not really in public due to the skin) but a good friend sent me some running shorts last Xmas and it gave me the bravery to run in them. A gal at work I know has had quite a bit of surgery after losing over 100 pounds - and just had her thighs and butt done I think. I could but hey Im old and single and Im really the only one who sees the bad stuff. Most folks don't even notice. NOW if we were a naked society. oh oh.4
