I've had IBS since since I was 20. But I have never been told I had Crohn's disease. Aren't they two different things?15 -

Yes they are different. Some similar symptoms, but they are different disorders.10 -

Collagen is just protein. Your body breaks down protein into amino acids when you eat it regardless of the source, and then reconfigures the aminos where they are needed. Claiming that you can fix collagen breakdown in your face and arms by eating or using topical collagen is like saying you can fix a sagging mattress by pouring broken up springs on it.23 -
Ancient bone broth, is it dusty? I always make broth from the leftover roasted bird carcass, I am so hip.7

I have never heard these terms used interchangeably.
They're not.
IBS and Crohn's disease are legitimate medical conditions with diagnosable symptoms. "Leaky gut" is an imaginary condition diagnosed by quacks such as naturopaths.31 -
IBS and Crohn's are not even close to the same thing. I'm assuming by colitis you mean ulcerative colitis as there are many different types. Also not IBS. No GI dr would give Crohn's and IBS the same title. I've never heard a GI dr use the term leaky gut.23

It's because they are not.8 -

I can't help but doubt claims that someone (not you) has made "bone broth" for years -- if they really had, why are they calling it "bone broth"?4 -

Is that what that means? I was thinking it meant pulverized bones, not dehydrated stock. But I'm betting you're probably right.0 -
Just a thought, quoting from the link above:
"The Myth: According to the proponents of leaky gut syndrome, bacteria and toxins enter the bloodstream through these defective tight junctions and wreak havoc throughout the body, causing bloating, gas, cramps, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as fatigue, food sensitivities, joint pain, moodiness, irritability, sleeplessness, autism, and skin problems like eczema and psoriasis."
How would toxins and bacteria that migrate into the blood cause problems from where they migrate, the intestines? If they are in the blood they aren't in the intestines anymore and would not cause bloating, cramps, bowel inflammations. Hence problem solved, no? And again, if they move from the blood to the joints, skin (joint pain, skin problems) and brain (autism) and cause problems there, then why aren't they removed via the kidneys? Or do they cling to bloodcells until they are at at a location where they can cause problems?12 -
Oooh - I just had a delicious clear soup made from homemade chicken stock, a few bits of chicken meat gleaned from the carcass and some noodles - twas tasty, though not the prettiest food on earth. :
eta - I am old but my chicken stock was prtty fresh

alrighty. I just googled and got a recipe for "gut healing bone broth" and read it.
apart from adding cider vinegar and the extra cooking time it is the same as how brown stock is made (i.e. how I learned it at catering school). so, yeah. that.9 -

But wouldn't you take in enough collagen from a normal healthy diet anyway? I wouldn't imagine you'd need that big an amount that you'd have to spend money on posh stock cubes. Maybe just make some calf's foot jelly instead.2 -

Oh my lord. No. Just no. They are totally different! Please do not spread such medical misinformation. That is just dangerous!11 -

Pulverised animal bones is what chalk used to be made of, and it was given in tablet form to children with calcium deficiency. To pulverise bones at home you'd need to dry them out in an oven on low heat for about three days before grinding them (while presumably chanting "fee fi fo fum").3 -
Check out the Mayo Clinic like I did. LEAKY GUT has become a catch all phrase which includes those symptoms. I find the
Mayo Clinic To be believeable and Informative
Just like chronic fatigue syndrome became a catch all phrase in the 80’s we know it all started with the Epstein Barr virus which is the same as chicken pox Mono ect. Feel free to educate yourself27 -
On the Mayo Connect site. IE their forums. Not in their actual listing of diseases and conditions: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/index?letter=L
Sort of like how we can have forum topics like "Keep a Word, Add a Word" or "Is Starvation Mode Real" or "Ancient Bone Broth" on the MFP forums, regardless of whether any of the above are fitness-related or scientifically accurate.19 -
Crohn's (not Chrons) is not a symptom, it's a disease. No doctor no where no how is going to diagnose "leaky gut" instead of Crohn's. That alone shows me you aren't that familiar with GI conditions (also the IBS and Crohn's being the same or even related to each other...nope). You should read
the badgut link. It's by a major gastroenterology association. Posting it again because you didn't read it https://www.badgut.org/information-centre/a-z-digestive-topics/leaky-gut-syndrome/11
