W7d1 of c25k this morning. 25 minutes straight of running! Slow, easy, wonderful. I’m eyeing a wellness triathalon on September 22nd in Philly - 5k, yoga, meditation. We’ll see how it goes.
In non-running news, I had a phone interview with a job yesterday and they want to see me in person on Friday. My husband is at a job interview now. It’s been a crazy yet, but things could be looking up for us.18 -
Good luck @eponine1984!1

@eponine1984 - I hope the interviews go well and result in job offers!
Just for fun I thought I would post a video from this last weekend. You all know I take agility classes with Hobbes the Vizsla and we had a trial on Sunday. It was Hobbes last event and he was tired and hot so not moving like a rocket which makes it easier to get a clean run also our agility trainer, who he adores, was recording us and you will see him run toward her at the beginning and run right into the fence. It isn't a fault at that point because he hadn't gone over the 1st jump yet but I was worried he would try to go back to her again though. He ended up with a clean run and a 1st in his level and height.

I decided to take today as a rest day. My knee is a little sore from agility class last night (and maybe from Sunday too?) twisting and turning on uneven grass and dirt. I am going to do some core work this morning and then going with a bunch of girlfriends to the Laguna Arts Festival.10 -
@eponine1984 Congrats and good luck!
@shanaber Thanks for sharing the video. I love Hobbes the Vizsla!3 -

That's great news, and good luck on the wellness triathlon!2 -

Also, everyone else advises against it so do not do that.
I did a three mile hill race the morning after my very hilly marathon. All for the cowbell medal you understand.
I swear that's the reason I was still able to walk afterwards
IMO, yes. I think everyone's advice not to is a disservice, but I am in the minority in this belief (possibly alone) so YMMV and talk to a doctor and all that.
I don't think you are that alone in this opinion @PastorVincent. Looks like many of us fell that the day after 'recovery run' does in fact help us recover!
Seems that way, maybe it is just that the people against it are far more vocal, and the rest of us are too busy running to post about it?4 -
It rained yesterday afternoon through the night, so it was cloudy and overcast this morning. On vacation with the family at our camper this week, so no time constraints. Perfect weather for a run during the summer. It was maybe 70 with little humidity and a breeze. Ran two miles out to the lake and two back. There’s a very long slow climbing hill on the road right by the campground entrance. I was feeling good, new Pandora station with good music, and started thinking about Dennis and all of the dedication runs. Ran the hill so an extra two miles for him, because I could and he couldn’t. Such a beautiful morning and now the sun seems to be trying to peek out through the clouds.

Saw a commercial on TV the other night that mentioned state inspection stickers and it occurred to me that my vehicle’s inspection is due this month. Ugh. Took it in right when it opened and it failed because the parking brake shoes were worn out. I never use the parking brake and how did it pass inspection last year? Whatever. 2 hours and $300 later we were finally out of there.
Anyway, all that to say I didn’t get out for my run until 11am! That’s really late for me. At least I only had 4 miles on the schedule. Got it done even though I had to walk a bit. Didn’t have much energy.

Well, grrr... getting ready to head out for a run and the power went out. It's apparently our whole area according to the outage map. Only problem is I don't want to open the fridge to get cold water and ice, so it's going to be a long, hot run with lukewarm tap water. (First world problems.)10

Here is a secret: Lukewarm tap water will hydrate you just as well as refrigerated water.7 -
I had a bad mental health morning, not for any particular reason other than I have a chronic condition and no matter how well I work to manage it, sometimes it just rears its ugly head. I managed to work a few hours before I decided to take a nap, which has been known to reset my mood. It wasn’t a very restful nap but I did feel better when I got up.
In the spirit of “keep your hard day hard” I tripled up my workout today - a round of prehab exercises followed by heavy deadlifts followed by 20 minutes of fartleks - and it was pretty great!
I deadlifted 100 pounds for the first time (3 x 6 reps), which felt pretty badass. I tied my fastest two mile pace even with a five-minute warm-up and a few walking breaks in the last half mile or so. And I made my 50 mile goal for the month - onto my stretch goal!
Apologies for being all over the place, but I was thinking about what it means to live a good life, and I was thinking that it doesn’t necessarily take that much to be a positive influence on the world around you. Treat everyone the way you’d like to be treated, try and look on the bright side, and never close yourself off to learning. Either nothing we do matters or everything we do matters, so we might as well try to live like the latter is true.
I’m getting my kumbayayas out now, because I figure there’s a greater than zero chance everything is going to hurt tomorrow and I’m going to be grumpy. This way I can remind myself what it’s like when the endorphins are flowing. I’m confident I’ll want to punch myself in the face. It’s worth it, future self!

@eponine1984 So cool that you and Hobbes do agility. I'd love to do that with my dog, Tippy, but she does NOT like the tunnels. She loves jumping though.0

So today was supposed to be my grand return to running, but instead, I came home to thousands, maybe millions or even billions of ants in my kitchen. So had to clean them out and run to the store for bait and etc etc. Yay!
I think all the rain has flooded THIER home, so they decided to move into MY home. The freeloaders! #grr10 -

Hmm... I offer this...As much as it depends on you, be at peace with all people.
AndWhatever you would have done unto you, do that on to others.
I find both of those to be very powerful into steering your life into a more positive place. The world is what it is, and you can only do so much, but in the long run, those seem to keep the balance on the brighter side. Probably because we are social animals, even us super-introverts.

I really expected to sleep like a log last night after an exhausting trip and 3 nights of terrible sleeping, but it didn't really happen. I had a lot of trouble rising and shining today, and my dog wasn't home yet from her boarding so no one made me get up. Finally I dragged myself out and went for a run - it was a pretty cool morning and the rain had not started yet - and then my circuit training class. My trainer had devised a lot of work on the obliques and upper body today to I guess take pity on my tired legs, or at least to balance out the pain a bit. My biceps and triceps are going to be feeling it tomorrow.

My device wouldn't let me expand for some technology reason I cannot explain. It was an easy 6 but unusual for me as it was an afternoon run not a morning run.5 -
@Scott6255 I certainly can't wait for September to arrive...it won't actually be much cooler then, but psychologically it will be because it won't be August anymore, lol.
@katharmonic Great race report, and very nicely run!
It was a little cooler this morning, and the dew point was lower, so double victory there. Still sweaty though. Ran my regular 9 mile route before meeting up with the group to run the remaining 5. Today's mileage meant I met my goal for the month, but as I said yesterday, I'm on call for a week after Thursday's run, so that should leave just a couple more days this week and the last day of August to get some guaranteed mileage in.

Miraculously the power came back on just as we were walking out the door, so we got our chilled water bottles. It's funny how we always get to know our neighbors when the power goes out. Everyone congregates outside to talk. We still don't know why it went out, no storm anywhere near, and the map showed a huge area out. My money is on a raccoon at the substation, that's what it was last time we had a big outage.
10k on the Greenline. Weather a little cooler than it has been, still in the 80s though. I was aiming for 11 minute miles, which is an easy pace for us. Hit 10:56 overall and no split more than 15 seconds off, I was impressed with my pacing. Pretty good run, we're starting to get used to the longer distance.
Yesterday we scouted out a new trail. The Nonconnah Greenbelt seems to be a typical Memphis boondoggle. It was going to be a paved trail linking miles of other trails, but they hired incompetent contractors and then ran out of money in 2007, and years later there it sits. At the present time it's a parking circle next to a young oak tree on a small raised mound, some overgrown but originally fancy paving stones, then a wooden footbridge which has rotted in places and has a warning sign on it, followed by a quarter mile of tightly overgrown, barely passable paved trail leading to a concrete bridge under the overpass.
Even at low water levels such as we have presently (the Wolf is dry in places and the Nonconnah is just a rivulet) this bridge was about ankle deep in water. We contemplated sloshing across the bridge but my husband said he could see something slithering on it, and was concerned about water moccasins. Well - there may or may not also be snakes - it seems likely - but what he was seeing was a lovely school of fish about a foot long, maybe crappie. Swimming on the concrete footbridge. Someone who built this bridge has a poor understanding of the word "bridge." Unless there is a full-fledged drought there is no point at which I foresee this bridge being above water level, so I'm honestly perplexed as to how they built it.
We turned back and followed some unpaved ruts into the area which never got finished. Looks like it gets used by four wheelers. Lots of beer bottles back in the wilderness, otherwise very nice. Saw a majestic white heron, many varieties of butterflies, lots of wildflowers and dragonflies. Overall very pretty, more of a hike than a trail I would feel comfortable running, but worth exploring and several miles long. In fact we had just said out loud that we were glad we weren't trying to run it, because of the rough footing, when we came into a broad pasture area looking towards a small lake, and noticed the sky. Which was sort of greenish yellow with a big dark thunderhead. According to the weather station, we weren't supposed to get anything for another two hours. Oops. We watched the storm sweep across the lake towards us, whipping the water into the air. So, guess what, we ended up running the rough trail after all. Not wearing tech clothes since we hadn't planned on running. We got thoroughly drenched. The rain stopped almost at the exact moment we reemerged from the wilderness into the paved part. Somehow I had ended up with an adorable furry white caterpillar riding on the brim of my hat. I suspected him of being the stingy kind, so we carefully removed him using a leaf. (Looked him up later - sycamore tussock moth caterpillar, they are toxic but not very.)
It was definitely an adventure! We had fun and will have to venture out there again when the weather is better. But it would be stretching a point to call it a "Greenbelt." It was a bayou with some four wheeler paths.

August running total to date – 134.43
Nominal August mileage goal: 180 miles
Real goals: Avoid injury. Continue to build base and train toward Oak Tree Half and Wineglass Marathon.
Today's notes – Went to club practice this evening, got chatting with a couple of injured runners, and missed doing the 2 mile warmup. Stuck around for Coach's talk on upcoming schedule, which includes changing practice venue next week. Then there was the workout. It was a big, tough speed workout on the board, and no way was I up to it.
So I just went out and ran, did some exploring trying to link together some segments I've run in other contexts. Found some short trails I've followed another group onto, but didn't find the easy trailhead; had a clumsy hike from grass across underbrush to a trail a couple of times. When I ultimately got to the Erie Canal Path, I pretty much knew distance back to base. Got there about 7.74 miles, just enough to finish with a lap of the track. And since Coach was standing there, I did the last 100m as a stride. Tuesday speed work: 8 easy miles finishing with one 100m stride, LOL.
On the bright side, it wasn't as humid as I expected. I did run through a rain shower early, then it stopped; but it never really turned into a humid slogfest. It just stayed a very pleasant run, from start to finish.

Yikes! I'm very behind on updating!! Work has been kicking my *kitten* for the last week an a half and it's only going to get worse next week. Rather than complaining I suppose I should be grateful that I have a job that I like. Anyway, it has rained and rained and rained here in Eastern PA. It's raining right now. So between my job leaving me dragging and rain, my miles are suffering. Still plugging along though. The evenings have been cooler, which is always welcome. I can't wait for those overall cool autumn temps.
For all those getting out there and crushing goals, good on you! And those that are taking the time to take care of themselves, I hope you're feeling better soon. Everyday each one of you inspire me to keep trying to get out there an push myself whenever I can!

Scheduled for 55 minutes to do so it was a rush to get out the door since I have a total of 1 hour 20 minutes before I have to get ready for work. I walked outside and holy *kitten* was it hot. Looked, 90 degrees at 4:10! Yikes. And about 40% humidity. About halfway through I got rained on for maybe two minutes. That was nice. Then I noticed the lightning. It was far off to start and barely noticeable but then it kept moving closer and getting more frequent. I was going to head home but saw I had 5 minutes left so just finished it. Gotta love the monsoon!9 -

I think i need to feed my tired legs.
So jealous. I struggled to get 2.7 tonight, dh ran 10. Frick. 10? I remember when i could out run him.
My brain says pizza is good recovery food, but the smart part of my brain, that's tiny, says "no pizza, bad habit". So guess i need to plan some meals.
What does everyone else feed their tired legs? Bbq? Roast? Acorn squash? Slow cooked beans? Coconut water? A foam roller?2 -
Love the bunny @sarahthes ! Great action shot!1
