I seriously need more strength in my legs. I really thought I'm ok in that regards but my legs are jelly.
Check out Eric Orton's book "The Cool Impossible". http://www.runningwitheric.com/page/the-cool-impossible A great book with tons of great information on strength routines (using only a slant board and a fit-ball) and running technique. The slant board and fit ball routines are amazing and when I do them regularly, I see almost immediate results in my running, leg strength, stability, and injury prevention. In the book, "Born To Run", Orton was the coach that got McDougal ready for his first ultra. In my humble, non-techie opinion, "The Cool Impossible" should be in every runner's library (along with "Relentless Forward Progress"). It is a very fun, simple book to read and I guarantee you will be a stronger, better runner in just a few weeks.2 -

My brain says pizza is good recovery food, but the smart part of my brain, that's tiny, says "no pizza, bad habit". So guess i need to plan some meals.
What does everyone else feed their tired legs? Bbq? Roast? Acorn squash? Slow cooked beans? Coconut water? A foam roller?
Since I have gluten issues, pizza is not much of a thing anymore, at least nowhere near as much as I would like... but ice cream is very high on the list3 -
DH bought airline tickets to Hawaii January 4th and return the 11th. Looks like we're doing this.
Anyone else interested in the Hawaii ultra relay?4 -

Cmon. This race has 4000ft elevation gain. That's right up your alley. Spoil the misses. Go to Hawaii.9 -
An out and back run to the lake. Hills felt pretty rough today after yesterday’s session, but there’s really no flat area here so onward and upward. There is a short little path that takes you by the water front and as I turned the corner two fawns were trying to get a drink from the lake. As soon as they saw me they took off, but on my way back I noticed one trying to poke it’s head out to see if the coast was clear. They were pretty and would have made for a nice picture.

For me, that 5K is a small part of son's current college tuition2 -
If you belong to Costco, check their travel deals. They usually have good deals. We've used them for all our Hawaii trips for airfare, car, and hotel. Prices can be low or high depending on your choices. We priced out the same trips on Expedia/Orbitz and its more than double.3

1) very small
2) i told my kids to work or take loans and I'd help them. So "lucky" me, none of the three made college a priority.1 -

I have ~2 acres, some sort of shaded, a shower house with laundry and portapotty, bbq and frig on the lanai. Eggs for the picking out of the nest boxes. A tent should cost ~$50 at walmart. Please let me know if you're interested in this so I can warn DH plan accordingly...

Headed out just before 8am and did 9 miles. Felt good. I wasn’t fast but pretty steady. It was really muggy and 80 degrees, but there was a nice breeze every time I turned north.
We are supposedly getting a cold front tonight which means cool weather the next two mornings! I’m psyched!! Too bad I have short runs on the schedule, but they are going to be nice!!

@elise4270 - I am working on my DH so far no go... but I haven't given up. Also @HonuNui is this run up to the volcano that is erupting? That could be really scary!1

The flowing lava (which is no longer flowing as of 2 weeks ago) is 40 miles away in lower Puna district. The run starts at oceanfront in Hilo town and follows highway 11 up 4000ft elevation to the town of Volcano (which has NOT been erupting...but where the glowing lake of lava could be seen at the summit in Volcano National Park for the last ~40 years, until it all leaked out at the bottom of the mountain and into the ocean in Puna!)4 -
Took my rest day yesterday so plan was to make up my tempo run today. I got out late because of technical issues with the phone, car , headphones, etc... just one of those mornings. I had limited time to run and it was already hot when I headed out so I left Hobbes the Vizlsa at home. Starting out I had already made up my mind it wasn't going to be a tempo run but when I hit the paved trail and got going I surprised myself. It wasn't as fast as I normally would have pushed for but it was faster than I expected and felt ok other than being really really hot. Splits after my 1st warmup mile were 11:46, 11:19, 10:30, 11:19 and then a quarter mile cool down.
Saw these pretty flowers on our neighbor's cactus and had to stop to take a picture.Hobbes telling me nope to a run today Date........Miles.......Total

We're probably interested. Thought perhaps splitting it up, camp/hotel as not to wear out our welcome 😉
@RunsOnEspresso Turns out dh held off on the tix to price check. We'll check out the Costco thing. Thanks!0 -

Maybe you should just go... he can stay. Man the house. Can not pass on @HonuNui 's generous offer.0 -
I am super envious hearing about the Hawaii plans! I'd love to go, but we've got some Life Changes on the horizon that are sucking up all available financial and spoon resources. I'll have to live vicariously this time.2

Well it certainly felt much cooler this morning, so I took the opportunity to put in a tempo run to give the new shoes (Zoom Fly SP) a much longer tryout. My concern was that as I run longer distance in them, my feet would swell and the snugness of the shoe would become uncomfortable...I'm not used to a more closer fitting shoe, and so my big toe feels kinda claustrophobic in the toebox. As it turned out, either my feet don't swell that much, or my concern was unfounded, because the shoes felt great throughout the run. My verdict is that I'm going to keep them, but I'm still going to order a half-size up to see how that feels (just checked, they're currently on sale at $90, meaning they're getting rid of stock for that particular style...so I ordered another pair ).

I would love to run it. Err hike it. Whatever But we literally just this month bought a house, remember? All of our cash was scrapped together for the downpayment. Living paycheck to paycheck for a while! The American Dream!5 -

No run for me today. Air quality 10+... and again tomorrow. Didn't bring gym stuff to work and my window is gone as kid bedtime is too soon. Tomorrow night I have plans and air will be bad in the morning. Gym Friday if it's still bad and I'll skip the trail race Saturday if it's >8 air quality. And run indoors instead.5

Five treadmill miles tonight. Took me about 50 minutes and the girl on the treadmill next to me was on her cell phone for the entire time. I wandered off to foam-roll my legs and when I came back she was still yapping. I went for my shower and then as I was leaving the gym I could see her and she was still on her phone. Yes, I'm old and grouchy. Bite me.9

Hey team! I need some help. My wife does not like the water bottles that yoy have to suck (with her asthma they are hard to use). Does anyone know what other options there might be?0
