Thank you all for your loving and encouraging comments. My DEXA scan showed some lessening density but I had been taking Raloxifene that was recommended by the bone specialist I saw in Seattle a few years ago. This was a huge surprise both to me and my doctor. The treatment is calcitonin which is administered as a nasal spray and leaves a horrible aftertaste in my mouth even the next day. Part of the recipe for healing involves lying down with a bit of walking but not too much sitting so I have been spending a lot of time in bed, reading, sleeping, and listening to podcasts. Jake is helpful but he has his own stuff with his cancer treatments. Sleep has helped me feel less sad and I'm finding a good recipe of over the counter pain meds to replace the prescription ones that caused terrible constipation.
Heather, I am glad you're enjoying "10% Happier". I like the style of writing and identified a lot with the stress and anxiety. Now I enjoy listening to Dan Harris's podcast "10% Happier" where he interviews people from all walks of life all over the world who meditate. I've learned a lot and found some suggestions for other books by listening to the podcast.
Yesterday I walked about a thousand steps and only left the house at midnight to walk the dogs to the back yard to pee. Getting up in the middle of the night is hard for Jake but my sleep is so erratic that it's easy to wake up and take them. I put on a long coat over my nightshirt and slip into my garden clogs and am in and out in less that five minutes. Then we all have a snack including Bernie who did nothing but expects a treat whenever the dogs get one.

Well it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be ..but being on my feet all day is killing my feet.2

One of the few cloudy, rainy, cool days we have had this summer. I used it to do some house cleaning and laundry. No Zumba today. My knee was bothering me some yesterday and didn't want it to get bad like it had before. It seems fine now.

Tucked into an Amarillo hotel (much less sketchy than the one in Las Cruces!), going out to dinner with friends in an hour or two... looking forward to good conversation that has nothing to do with work after two straight weeks of nothing but!
Love y'all,
Home in Arkansas tomorrow

(((Barbie))): It sounds like you are in transition to something better. I'm glad the OTC pain remedies are at least as good as the prescriptions you were using. I also hope that every day is better than the day before. I'm glad your doctors want to try Fosomax if necessary. I've mentioned that I take the generic version and it has improved my bone density over the past few years, as verified by a bone density scan. I've mentioned that there are once daily and once weekly versions. I strongly prefer once a week because the medicine requires sitting upright for ½ hour, and taking in no beverages or food except glasses of water with the pill, until the time is up. I can do it once a week with a good attitude, but not every day. Weight bearing exercise is also important. You did plenty of walking and dancing before you started having pain. Both of those things seem great. I also love yoga.
Dr Katie: With so many cousins batting cancer I have to wonder whether it is environmental. Do they live in an area of high pesticide use or heavy industry? I am sorry about their situation. :flowerforyou:
Mary: It sounds like you are needed. It is good for your family to have help. I hope things ease up before too long.
Rori: I'm glad that you don't have to worry about your former condo in the Hawaiian storms. I hope people stay safe there.
Rebecca: My husband and daughter in law love Kirks soap, too.
Beth: Prayers and good thoughts for your son. :flowerforyou:
Karen: My son is bossy but I know he loves me. That helps. I hope he's noticing that I am competent and functional. He hasn't said otherwise since they have been here. :devil: :bigsmile;
Pip: You are my hero. You are doing this ride to help people with MS like my DH. Send me your address and I'll send a donation. I still have the address on 57th Street E, in Sumner. Does it still work?
Janet: I love the sculptor chiseling herself.
Machka: Happy Anniversary!!!!! I love the story of you and DH meeting, and eventually marrying. What wonderful memories.
(((Rye))) So sorry about the health insurance problems.
Lanette: DH has drop-foot caused by his MS. He has a brace that helps him to keep his left foot in the proper position to walk. There is a piece that fits in his shoe and helps to hold the foot in its correct position. That piece is attached to a leg brace. It has been used hard and needs replacing soon. His doctor has sent a prescription to the brace maker. :flowerforyou:
Yesterday we all attended a concert in the park. Afterwards DS ran into a long time family friend and his wife. The friend lived in the town where we did while our kids were growing up. He is close to my age and the kids knew him back then as the neighbor of their school friends. DS and his family are out of the house today. My daughter in law is taking part in a Pilates class, and DS and the baby are running errands and finding fun things to do in PDX. They should be home within an hour or so. I made macaroni salad using brown rice noodles, and DH plans to grill salmon for dinner.

Hi Sisters, popping in for a second while drinking my smoothie and taking my supps, going out to feed horses and transplant tiger lillies in my garden next, Meanwhile here is some interesting research I found: Progesterone promotes bone building. Research found progesterone to be extraordinarily effective in reversing osteoporosis.(9, 10) There is evidence that progesterone may prevent and treat women’s osteoporosis. Progesterone stimulates osteoblasts and prevents bone loss in pre- and possibly perimenopausal women. Studies indicate that progesterone – likely working through bone formation pathways -plays an active role in maintaining women’s bone and in osteoporosis prevention.(11) Research shows that transdermal progesterone had bone-sparing effects.(12)

Did water class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a zero to Sixty with weights DVD.
M – I’m glad you were somewhere in your office where people knew that there wasn’t someone and so wouldn’t go there (thereby giving you quiet)
Janetr – what a great start to the day, smiling! Thanks
Kim – 3 – 5 YEARS!!!! Have you ever done this before? Did it take that long? (((HUGS)) about you brother. That is so tough on everyone. I guess the silver lining (not much of one) is that you can prepare yourself rather than it being a sudden thing
M – very happy anniversary. What a story!
Kylia – I just sent you a friend request. One of the things I don’t like about facebook is that you can’t tell someone where they know you from. I know that if someone sends me a facebook request and I don’t know them, I usually decline the request.
Suebdew – feel better fast
Rye – I’m so sorry for your health insurance problems. To me, the only people who should have full access to the Newcomer website are the webmaster and the person (who they haven’t found yet) who is there to back him up. That’s it. But it’s not my call. It does scare me in that anyone can delete a member. But Vince assured me that the webmaster can find out who did and when if this ever occurs. I do hope so. Well, it’ll only be a few more months for me so I’m just going to keep my fingers crossed that nothing happens. Kitties ALWAYS change your mood!!!

Good morning all! Happy Saturday! I can hear the lake from my bedroom (in the back of the house) with the windows closed!! So I bet the waves are big and the lake is angry today! There is a series of storms coming across the lake and a "red flag" warning has been issued for yesterday and today. Red flag means rip tides, big waves and that the lake is not suitable for swimming and usually not good for small craft. Heard the sirens of emergency vehicles quite a bit yesterday, as people continue to disregard the red flag warning and go into the lake. In 99% of these cases, these people are not locals. Tourists trying to get the most out of their vacation time. I get that. But what an awful way to lose a child! Two weeks ago we had seven near drownings and three drownings all in one day!
Machka- Happy belated anniversary! I love what you have done with your photos, also! Very cute!
Suebdew- Ugh! I know how that heat and humidity can take it out of you! Hope you feel better soon!
Pip- So proud of you and all you have done for MS, through this ride! You ROCK, lady! I wish I had the $$ to send something, but all I can send is my love and best wishes for a safe and successful ride! to you and Kirby!
Rye- Glad your visit home went well, and glad you made it home safe (Ugh, a flat tire in the wee hours!). SO sorry about the $$ and having to cancel a doc visit! I am with you on that boat.
Allie- Do you get to chose your footwear at work? A good pair of shoes is a must when you are working on your feet. May I also suggest an ankle wrap/support so help your ankles adjust to the extra time standing? Sit when you can. Elevate and ice (if swollen) when you get home. You are on your feet...are you walking or standing. IF you are standing, try to walk when you can or at the very least switch from foot to foot as you stand. Oh, if you need extra arch support, wear those in your shoes for a while also. I am in the "on your feet all day" fight with you! Hope your body gets used to it and it just becomes the new "normal" for you! (In a good way!)
Lisa- Boy!! You are tucked Waaaay down into the west side of Texas! Be safe as you travel about!
Heather- Awww! Hugs to your cancer friend! I bet those flowers were a big "pick me up" for her! We do have box flower services here in the U.S.. Hope DH makes some headway with your solicitors.
Well, Trentin has arrived so I will sign off so I can pack us a picnic lunch. We are headed downtown to the library and a couple of other places. We will probably go check out the lake and watch the crazy surfers. Tomorrow I am packing a lunch and we are headed to a nearby nature center to see the animals, plants and do some hiking!
Love and hugs to all who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Morning Ladies!
We are headed out this morning to meet some friends for lunch. The location is about two hours drive away so we will get a nice drive in at the same time.
Have a great weekend!

Saturday -- gorgeous day! One of the nicest we've had in a while.
So I made the executive decision that we would try cycling outside on our Bike Fridays. After much thought and some discussion with my husband, we chose a bit of road that has been closed to traffic. Cyclists, runners, and walkers can go through, but no cars.
This was my husband's first ride since the accident, and my first ride outside since late April. Unfortunately, his rear wheel had a small puncture so he had to stop a few times to fill the tyre. But other than that ... it was a good first ride!!
Distance: 5.11km
Elevation: 17m
Moving Time: 24:04
Elapsed Time: 31:13
................ Avg ...... Max
Speed: 12.8km/h 18.7km/h
Then my husband walked about 600 metres and I ran 2.6 km, my longest, fastest run in a while.
Distance: 2.62km
Elevation: 3m
Moving Time: 19:06
Elapsed Time 19:25
Pace: 7:16/km
And then we went out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary.
