quick 1 miler with short cool down to kick off 30 minutes of circuit training this morning, upper body and core. So to end the month with 75.6/55 per endomondo. Heading goal up another 10% for next month, so 60.5 miles. See you all in September's thread.

@RunnerGrl1982 The LA marathon was one that I was thinking of doing last year so that I could meet up with friends there. Instead I opted for the Long Beach marathon...two runners from my group were also running it, so it made more sense as that meant I had some good training buddies.
It was supposed to be cooler today, which it was, but it also felt more humid as well, so I was already a soggy mess when I met up with the group. Everyone pretty much agreed that it was like running through soup. Lovely day. It's supposed to be more of the same tomorrow morning, so I think a tempo run is in order rather than a long run to see off the month as we head into the long weekend.

Smart! That's great you were able to do a marathon with others in your group. Training buddies FTW! Makes sense to ditch the LA for Long Beach in that instance.
You are a beast with your running this month. Well done!3 -
i failed this month. no excuses. just a little funk.
renewed commitment. shifting training. looking forward to september8 -

Finished up August with 5 slow, hot miles. I was grateful I even managed to run them all instead of stopping to walk. I did plan my route so that I would keep passing the water stops along the golf course. Thank you golf course!
So August ends with 181.67 miles. My goal was 175 so I surpassed my goal! Even in the heat of August! Pretty happy about that!

Managed to close out the month with a longish run that took me over my stretch goal. It was like I created my very own rain storm of sweat running, dripping off my hat. I was ready to call it a rain run!😅
@HonuNui - I am sorry about the hurricane damage but so happy it wasn't worse! Also I can't imagine that you were still able to pull off the music jam event in that weather!
@MegaMooseEsq - I hope you can work out the home loan issues! It has become so difficult to get into a house these days especially if you have student loans. Most younger people do and some (my daughter) if they have advanced degrees, have loans that are worse than a mortgage. We know she would never have qualified for a home loan either and are glad we are in a position to help!
@rheddmobile - so glad no one was hurt more seriously! I am always terrified of that on my trail as well. The cyclists go so fast even though they are supposed to yield to pedestrians as well. I have had a few close calls and honestly am more worried that they might hit Hobbes the Vizsla so I watch for them and keep him always or as much as possible on my side away from where the cyclists would be.
@garygse - The Long Beach Marathon was my first ever HM that a friend signed me up for! We had a ball, it was so much fun!
@runsonespresso - sounds like it could be an infection or maybe allergies? IDK, just hope you feel better soon!
@ContraryMaryMary - you and @avidkeo want September and warmer weather and we all want September and cooler weather 😁
I see several runners here who think they have failed this month because you missed your goal... You did not fail!! Maybe you were in a funk or just didn't feel like running in the heat, humidity or cold but you got out there and ran or walked or both, as best you could as much as you could and that right there is an accomplishment! Great job to everyone who who got out there this month goal met or not!! You got up off the couch and you ran - yay!

Thanks - I think we found a solution and a backup, at least sufficient that everyone involved felt comfortable submitting an offer a couple of hours ago. And now, we wait. And drink. Maybe. But not too much, because I've got a long run tomorrow AM.6 -

Today's notes – I have misaligned bones and arthritis in my left foot. This results in a lot of aches and minor pains that don't mean anything, and it can be tricky to recognize when I get an ache in my left foot or ankle that does mean something.
Yesterday I noticed a new ache on the bottom inside of my left heel. It wasn't the right place for plantar fasciitis, but it was worse in the morning like some variation of tendon irritation. Okay, I ran easy yesterday, stretched well (as I didn't after Wednesday's races), and it was a bit better this morning. Maybe means nothing, maybe I banged on the foot a little hard running the road mile Wednesday evening, maybe it was the result of skipping the stretches I should have done Wednesday.
Then I realized that Wednesday I had been wearing a pair of shoes that broke 500 miles last Saturday. I wore a different pair of shoes, with less mileage on it, yesterday. Maybe it's not the shoes, but that's enough of a coincidence to retire the shoes I work Wednesday and put a new pair in rotation. Thought about the rotation, and racing a half on Sunday, and decided to run an easy 5 miles in the new-to-rotation Kinvara 7's.
200 meters into today's run, I was sure that retiring the old pair of shoes was the right decision. The left heel felt better simply running in a new pair of shoes. Took it easy, ran around my neighborhood where I had to think to add enough turns to get 5 miles, instead of the around the big block where I'd have to think to add enough to get 5 miles without getting 6 or 7.
Temperature was cooler, but by the way I ended up sweating the humidity was back at summer levels. No big deal, it's only 40 minutes, and that was a pleasant run. Wore the new hydration belt, and it was fine for a short run; but didn't need to mess with fuel or S-caps while running. I did test out drinking one of the bottles to empty, and it's no worse than with my older bottles/caps . . . at least while I'm standing still or walking around the house. Still need to get to that while on the run.
While the new hydration belt seems like a success, I'll still wear the old one on Sunday. I've trained with Nuun and water, and I'll race with Nuun and water. Then I'll train in September with water only, see how that goes, and probably wear the new hydration belt at Wineglass.
In other news, yesterday I signed up for the Pete Glavin XC series. This is a target series for my club, and my team captain will want me to run it. It was cheaper to pay for the series than to register for 4 individual races, so I went with the series even though I'm 80% likely to DNS #2 because it's only 7 days after Wineglass.
And that closes out August with a cutback week of 34.58 miles at the end of a month just squeeking past 200 miles. You wouldn't know it by the training regimen, but at least the monthly mileage looks like I'm training for a marathon.

Glad this month is over. Really looking forward to next month in many ways.
Here I am checked in the hospital today so they can monitor my heart while I sleep. Too bad it wasn’t last night. They would have had a lot to see. Barely had two hours sleep. I’m so tired lights out at 2200 and wake up call at 0500.
But
I really enjoyed this my first month as a member reading how great everyone one of you did. I think you guys are amazing. I have nothing but admiration. There is such tremendous support for each other and your so wonderful at sharing the knowledge.
Definitely looking to see how everyone does in September.

Really bad month for total miles, but at least I ran on the last day! That is all that matters right! Saw some turkeys and a woodpecker. Danced with a dog briefly. Pretty normal humid run I guess. A bit slow. Definitely not in marathon shape anymore but could still run a 1/2 at any time at least.
Ah well... tomorrow is a new day and a new month!
