Do people ever criticize the way you choose to eat?

I get told I shouldn't deconstruct my food i.e either eat veg, then potato the meat on a sunday dinner or that when eating a kit kat I shouldn't eat it sides first then de-layer it.
not so much types of food though. More just 'stop playing with your food'6 -

Them: "How are supposed to lose weight eating that?"
Me: "I make room in my calorie budget"
Them: "Ohh, that works?!?!? How did you do that?"
Me: "I ran 5 miles this morning, and I'm going to my hard workout this evening"
Them: "Oh" with a look of defeat
That's always my favorite.
Them: "You eat a lot for someone with an eating disorder."
Me: "I run 20 miles a week. I eat less than 1300 calories a day."
That person is just disgusting. You’re better then me all bets are off when you take it that personal. Sorry that person said that to you not cool.4 -
No not really. I sometimes get comments on how "healthy" I am, like.. when I eat a vegetable. Well I suppose one of my coworkers made a comment about my diet soda habit.1

I had the following conversation with a sales associate as I was shopping for new jeans:
me: excuse me, could you tell me where the curvy skinny jeans are?
her: oh I don't think you need those, you're so thin!
me; Thanks, but that's what I buy from here as I tend to carry more of my weight in my hips/legs
her: *rolls eyes* you are so tiny you are definitely not curvy!
me: "at this point I just walk away"
I realize this isn't bout food but since when did calling yourself curvy become a synonym for calling yourself fat or overweight? I know I'm not overweight but it is a FACT that I carry more weight is my hips/legs but people always assume I'm calling myself fat when I say that. I know they mean it as a compliment but heavens to Betsy I am NOT calling myself fat!12 -
Some of my friends don't understand why people would pass on a restaurant invitation to a pizza place because they want to save calories for dinner.2

I'm sure people have commented, but I rarely pay attention. I don't talk about what I'm doing/eating, so it tends to invite less idle chatter about it. I have gotten tougher with age. I used to seem to attract all kinds of unwelcome feedback...whether it was "wow, you're ordering dessert?" or "Live a little, just have one donut." Or even about other things--my parenting decisions, what brand of laundry detergent I bought, how lazy could I be to buy pre-chopped vegetables. I kid you not--people actually have criticized me on all of that.
In my 40s, though, I must have either appeared tougher or perhaps people stop criticizing you once you're older? It's been a while. My friends/family give me a hard time about being so "rigorous" in terms of what I eat and how often I work out, but they are doing it out of love, even if I choose to ignore their advice.4 -
The only person who has ever criticized something I ate was my mother and she did it constantly since I was a little kid. First I didn't eat enough, then I ate too much, then I was dieting the wrong way, etc. No wonder I have food issues.
I have never experienced the diary stalking like some have, but then again I keep my diary only available to friends and I am very picky about who I befriend on here.5 -

I've always referred to myself as curvy and I'm not fat either. I have a big butt and wide hips. That's the body type curvy jeans are intended for I thought.9 -
The only person who ever criticizes the way I eat is my husband and he doesn't mean it or believe the "advice" he gives. He just does it to annoy me. He'll laugh and tell me that avoiding sugar is why he's thin while he's eating cake (or other similar nonsense).
Other than joking around, most people don't really seem to care.1 -

They mean well, but friends will send links of articles about how "dangerous" my chosen diet is because several Dr's and nutritionists do not approve of it. However, some Dr's and nutritionists DO chose to do this diet and they say it is perfectly healthy. Then there are those people on this site that call it a "crazy" diet. To each his own. There are pros and cons to every diet and just because the diet might be right for one person doesn't mean it is right for someone else. Live and let live.1

a lot of my friends are eating clean and eating keto-like for weight loss only
they tell me i can't eat like i do and lose weight
i can and keep it off unlike you all who will stop doing what you are doing and gain your weight back5 -

I get a lot of “wow if I ate what you ate I’d be so fat” and “how are you skinny if you eat cake for breakfast??”
I dunno what the deal is with people thinking that they have the right to comment on your size when they consider you to be thin, like that’s somehow less offensive than commenting on what an overweight person is eating.3 -
I am Keto and people are FOREVER telling me what I should be doing and how I should do it... Seriously people, sometimes other people eat a certain way not because of weight loss but for health reasons like inflammation, joint pain, headaches and dry skin... (none is which I have anymore because of the way I eat) The weight loss has just been a pleasant side affect of this way of eating oh and the lowered cholesterol without having to take meds is pretty cool too.

I agree with @VUA21 its always the ones that are over weight with no desire to change or those who have tried and were not successful... I just throw out the big cheese smile and keep it moving.

You know, I have really enjoyed the keto journey. I always had digestive issues prior to starting keto a month ago. By cutting out my bread and grains, I noticed that this has completely disappeared. I really think that my body had an issue with these foods. Maybe I am allergic to gluten. All I know is that if it weren't for me trying the keto diet, I would never have known and I am much better and feeling better for trying. *Shrug*6 -

While I was losing, a friend kept telling me what I was doing wouldn't work. The only correct way was her way, though she has not had success losing the weight she wants to lose. Then after she saw that I had lost the weight I wanted to, she kept telling me I was way too thin, needed to gain weight, told me I looked gaunt, tired, old, sickly, etc. With friends like that . . . .8

Yep. If I’m eating something that is considered “healthy”, I hear about how I’m no fun anymore or “you eat next to nothing”.
If I’m eating something considered “unhealthy” or “junk food”, these same people will ask if I should be eating that or say “I guess the diet didn’t last”.
I just say “OK” to whatever they’re saying and keep eating.8 -

I have always been harassed about drinking Diet Coke at the same time as eating junk food. It always goes, ‘I’ll never understand these people who drink low calorie soft drink and eat junk? Why bother drinking it?’ Well, because I’m addicted to it, Susan.11

I understand commenting on food choices here. Somehow MFP is a judgmental and. criticizing place. I think we're all guilty, because it is a diet site and all think we're experts because we've lost a pound,
However... but in real life?.. like in the real world? Why comment on what anyone is eating ever. Certainly not to question or criticize a persons food as they eat. It is absurd if you think about it.6 -
Biggest one, if you want to loose weight you need to eat breakfast... after loosing 16kg not eating it unless we go out for it on the weekend. Sigh. There will always be someone who knows best2

I have always been harassed about drinking Diet Coke at the same time as eating junk food. It always goes, ‘I’ll never understand these people who drink low calorie soft drink and eat junk? Why bother drinking it?’ Well, because I’m addicted to it, Susan.
Why bother? Because a regular soft drink has something like 150-200 calories in it. If I drink a diet pop, that's 150-200 more calories of FOOD I can eat. How is that even hard to understand?
People who ask that question haven't really thought it through and should just keep their stupid pieholes shut until such time as they have.10 -

Not really, but tired of telling people close to us that YES we still are on our diet, so no we can't have carbs. I get it though... we've quit so many other diets before but not this time.0
