Margaret ~ Thanks so much for sharing your home tour. I would love to see inside the old mansions. The only two I have ever seen was the Biltmore house in Carolina and the Flagler museum in St. Augustine. Loved seeing their history.

Back again~ had quite a scare lol so i did my laundry and dried and folded it and put it in my hamper thing to bring down to my place and when I got back from walking the dogs it was gone, had a panic until my friend Lil said oh thought it was another persons and put it in front of there door.. crisis averted...
DFIL was having none of anything this morning... madder than a wet hen and he was combative... so didn't stay to long... hope they can get trazidone into him to calm him down as he was being disruptive...
thank goodness these are few and far between but still sad to see ...with dementia you take the good with the bad..

Thanks so much for once again having the reporting page for the month ready to go, Barbie! It really is helpful.
September was an up and down month for me. I started off the first two weeks of Sept. really making some progress. I reached the 5 lbs lost and I was exercising and staying under my calorie goal. I got to 10,000 steps regularly. I had my appt with the nutritionist and she basically confirmed that I was doing a good job although she wanted to see more veggies in my journal, wanted to see me eating breakfast within an hour of waking, and wanted to see me eating 5 small meals instead of 3 big ones. So far, I have failed on all of those suggestions:( I also met with my doctor. My liver enzymes were much improved since January and my A1C was also much better although still above the 7 he would like to see as my high point. The class on managed weight loss did not happen because the hospital has changed and is no longer offering the class and the nutritionist said my bmi would not qualify me for any bariatric help, so I failed in that goal. I did still get out much more with family to have some fun and DH is actually walking with me regularly now plus walking during his lunch break. I think he wants to rock that tuxedo in May for DDs wedding.
Then, everything just went south real fast. I broke my 6th rib on the left side and for the past two weeks, I have been doing nothing but laying around, taking pain medicine, and eating what tastes good as the medicine makes me really nauseated. I was at 220 and am back up to 224. I did try to walk for the first time yesterday and made it to between 4 and 5 thousand steps before the pain became too much, so I had to stop. I have not been doing any of the exercise machines or dance videos that had been so helpful.
My goals for October while I continue to recover are going to be slight;
1. journal food daily in an attempt not to gain back any more weight
2. try to walk a little more each day
3. continue to try and get out of the house and enjoy the fall weather
4. keep scrapbooking....get cruise book done by the end of the month
5. continue to work on eliminating carbs to get blood sugar levels down to below a 7 by the end of December
6. manage wedding stress

Dee, I've been dealing with a compression fracture in my spine. It took almost a month to be diagnosed and I was in terrible pain the whole time, then when it was diagnosed, I was told to spend most of my day lying down. So with so much pain and so little exercise, I had to be extra careful about what I ate and it was a great exercise to figure out how to eat a lot with the fewest calories. I am just now allowed to slightly increase my exercise but still spend hours lying down. I wish you the best with the recovery from your broken rib. Life sure can deal some strange challenges.

Here are my September goals and comments. They always look familiar because they work so well for me.
September 2018 Resolutions:
1. Log every bite and swallow. Done!
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina. Done. This has been a combination of yoga, walking & working on physically active projects.
3. Have fun every day. Done!
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. Done!
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. Done. This goal has been so good for my health and well-being!
6. Avoid alcohol. I’ve done a little sipping. :embarrassed:

Barbara AHMOD - hope you are continuing to feel good and your floor exercises go well. By the way, the international broadcast we get with the "leaf" antenna isn't from Canada, it's called "NHK World-Japan". The newscasters speak great English, and there are some interesting gardening and food broadcasts also in English or subtitled. How this station gets transmitted to a repeater in our little county, I'll never know. We sometimes watch the SUMO matches! Rebecca - can you access this? There might be an app for it to view on your tablet.
Margaret - loved that home tour description. Closest thing I've come to that was touring one of the "Ball" mansions when I attended Ball State U in Muncie IN. So neat to see how the houses were designed back then, and the quality was outstanding. Loved hearing that F Scott Fitzgerald story. WOW!
Machka - how thrilling to see your DH's apple tree budding. Now, I'm curious. If someone were to get a dormant tree from the US, would it get mixed up season-wise if planted in your area? Maybe if it's truly dormant it won't care. My gravenstein has a branch that blossoms every fall so there's a mixed up one, lol.
October goals... keep on with what I'm doing. Lower carbs, a day or two of intermittent fasting per week. Keep on with the 3x per week strength training.
September was a review of the benefits of lower carb eating and intermittent fasting. So this month, I want to investigate cardio equipment and/or exercises I can do at home when the rainy season hits. Also will be on the lookout for possible new activities/organization I can join and just do my introverted minimal, lol, in case the two I belong to right now aren't for me anymore.
Before we moved to this neighborhood, I attended a very small Methodist church (attendance around 25 each week, most of them seniors) in a tiny town. Between that and volunteering at the food bank, I had a few treasured friends and acquaintances. I really, really miss that and haven't been able to find a new church home. It might be time to start looking again.

I went on the biannual Summit Ave house tour yesterday. There were twelve homes on the tour. These are more mansions than homes. These are the homes that the very wealthy built around 1890-1920. I didn't take pictures I barely got them all in in the 6 hour time frame they allowed for viewing. They were spread out over a a large are. I must have walked four to five miles yesterday. Many of these homes were three stories too. Not all the homes were open to the third floor but several were. I got plenty of exercise.
Highlights: One owner was on our Children's Museum Board and when they moved the museum he bought the boat that children played on in the museum and put it in his basement and then had a white and blue theme. It was a delight.
The room that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote Paradise Lost was on the tour. It was on the third floor of a brownstone. He would go out on the small balcony to smoke his cigarettes. The story was he went running into the street when he finally sold a novel going up to people saying he was going to be a famous author. Once he sold a novel Zelda married him. He was not from one of the wealthier families on the block. You can see the influence of this in his book The Great Gatsby.
For me one of the joys was seeing all the art work some of the owners displayed. Many you could tell had travelled the world.
Many were had tasteful displays of antiques too. One of my favorites was a metal doll house like I had as a child.
One owner had an exact replica of the Downtown Abbey servant bell board. FUN!
One of the homes a former owner had bought rooms from Europe and had them recreated in her home. One room was filled with mirrors from Italy and beautifully carved doors. One room she had made up tp feel like a castle. She also had a gorgeous carved staircase. You could tell she loved her home and loved history. She felt preservation was important.
Another favorite for me was the home that was getting new siding. When they pulled the siding off they found boards that made the frame had sign paintings on them. Turns out the home was built from wood that from a skating rink that was torn down. They pulled some of the boards and incorporated them into their entry area. They also made a wall display as an art piece. I particularly liked the one that had signatures of people who had visited the skating rink. This is why I went on the tour because they will soon be putting up new siding and will be covering up the siding they left on the home for another owner to find some day.
My father did something similar in the sixties when he finished off our screened in porch. He used the wood from a torn down carriage house. If something old has to be torn down I love it when it can be reused into something else.
Such fun seeing how people blended the old with the new and making them functional living spaces.
Then there was the home where the third floor was converted into an apartment completed with the aunt who would say, "I am the aunt who lives in the attic."
This home was not one the tour but for Halloween they had three full size skeletons climbing on their home. Another one not on the tour had rather than cut down a dead tree they had made a live size carving of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, and Tigger. Love it!
It did inspire me to not over clutter my she-cave. For me it is just about right. Now if I want to add something I know something else must go.
Another favorite of mine was the poster made by the owners children saying Welcome to Our Home. Worthy of framing in my book.

My September goals were to get back to regular walking and to get back to the pool a couple times a week.
I was also hoping to be to the mid 170's by the end of September.
I did get more walking in in September than I did August. August I walked 20.75 Miles and September I walked 30.66. My weight was exactly the same on September 1st as it is today. 180.6, however, if I go by my averages for the month I am down 1.2 pounds...
My October Goals are:
Be more consistent with exercise
Pay more attention to food consumption
Stay positive and focused even when crafting season starts in full

Hi ladies. I am home safe and sound from the funeral trip. I mostly stayed in and was lazy over the weekend, so now it's time to get my a** in gear.
As far as goals go, I don't even know where to start. I think I will say 1) drink enough water, 2) exercise, and 3) exercise! I already have goals for each of those areas, I just need to do them! My psych NP upped one of my meds and so far I am feeling a bit better.
It's rainy/misty and cool here today; just the right weather to stay in and read, but I have to slave away here at work! Another day, another 50 cents LOL.

Margaret - That tour sounds amazing! I just LOVE that kind of thing.
I had a really lovely lunch and walk with my friend. She's the one that dropped the knife on her toe and severed a tendon. 3 months on she is doing well, walking a little further every day. Today we walked 5+ miles, which is more than I've done in a long while. I could feel my hips protesting, but nothing dreadful. Lots of great chat and a healthy lunch.
It really took my mind off the move business. Of course, we have heard nothing.
Thank you, my friends, for my birthday wishes for tomorrow. I'm already looking forward to my lunch of blinis, creme fraiche and lump fish roe. Yum! Then my brother rang me, completely out of the blue this afternoon, and said he was coming over on his own to see me tomorrow. ????????? This has never happened before. I'm wondering whether he has something to tell me???? I know my niece has had depression, anxiety and cutting issues. Or he may just be coming to wish me happy birthday. So we will have to stretch our blinis and add some garlic prawns and a babaganoush dip I have in the freezer.
My birthday treat was to be to go to our local food emporium and buy Dover Sole for dinner and maybe look at handbags. I want a brightly coloured one. We may still have time to do that, or we can go out in the evening. I'm not at all bothered about presents really, but a pink handbag could float my boat.
Talked with my friend about her possible extension and all the things I want to do to this house if we don't move, including a dining extension with retractable bifold doors all round. Don’t think DH will, play ball on that.

Barbara- thanks! Just made it into Walker after a 3 Hour Dr. to get here. I'm going to warm up the camper here at the resort then head to town to talk to some of the other people that are affected by the special assessment. I get to see my dog tomorrow then hopefully I will take him home on Thursday! Great goals for this upcoming month!
Kelly, Katla and Lanette- I am so excited to see my dog again! I definitely need him with me. Or I don't think my husband would be able to survive my behavior.

I watch NHK all the time on TV. There is a show Journeys In Japan, a travel show that's really interesting! I watch their general news all the time. Their weather portion covers the whole world in 5 minutes! Its interesting! Their cooking shows are nice, but I usually have the sound down, because the hosts talk in English so slow its kinda annoying. So I'm thinking its for the Japanese housewife, learning English👍.

Interesting thing happened recently.
My cousin made a group messenger site and said in November she was going to be out from Minnesota, to Oregon where her mom lives near her brother in Redmond. Her mom, my aunt, was having a birthday. So I was going to ride with my cousin from Everett Wa. The more I thought about traveling way down the length of Washington, and the middle of Oregon the end of November, I got more and more anxious. Nervous to leave my husband, nervous to see family I really haven't seen since we were kids. The stress of money saving for it all. So yesterday I told a white lie and said husband had some tests to do that day. *Sighes* I am awful rigt? Why I can't just go and not worry, but its definitely outside of my comfort zone.
So I'm a teller of white lies now........aaaack!

Margaret: That tour of mansions sounds ahh-mazing. I also love seeing people used reclaimed wood. What are you putting in your she-cave?
Heather: Happy, happy birthday tomorrow Keep on dreaming about possible renovations to your current home. It's a great way to practice creativity, even the ideas never come to pass.
Intentions for September and report card:

> Yoga once a week in addition to regular cardio = A
> Do something fun with DH outside of the house 1x per week = B (missed last week)
> Start on scanning family album #2 = F (why am I finding this so tough?)
> Be lighter = C Finished up .5...so basically stayed the same.
Word for 2018 = Release
Since there is definitely room for improvement, I am going to carry over these intentions to October. Stay well friends. We can do this!

Rebecca - that is SO cool you watch NHK! Does it come in on your Satellite/cable then? Maybe it does down here but we get neither of them. I think it's funny that my DH tunes in a lot even when the internet is still up, guess he's getting tired of what Sling has to offer. Every time it's on I think of you!
Don't feel bad, I can see myself doing just what you did with the big trip. Several years ago one of my good friends from Seattle arranged a girl's weekend on Lummi Island for her 65th birthday. I knew many of the gals who responded they'd attend. I agreed to go... then realized I'd be driving up to Bellingham, my car was way past the 60,000 mile checkup, I'd be dealing with the ferry, my own DH was having some health issues. And frankly the last time I was with these gals (her 50th Bday in Seattle) it was drinking, drinking, drinking, noise, rude jokes..... this time there would be MJ involved....NOT my idea of fun. I was sorry to miss seeing her but I came to my senses and realized the "group" wasn't going to be enjoyable for even if we sat around the campfire toasting hot dogs and making smores, lol.
By the way, I just finished watching a good series on Netflix - "Marcella" - not bad for a detective series set in the UK and produced by Netflix. 2 seasons and worth the time to watch, reminded me a little of "Broadchurch". I don't know how the writers kept the characters straight!

Lanette we couldn't get NHK World-Japan by antenna, but can get some of their programs via PBS cable. Really enjoy Journeys in Japan, haven't seen the weather, cooking or Sumo wrestlers yet. Gravensteins bring back great memories, but honestly think I like the fujis better. Hope my dwarf produces next year...

I'm having a hysterectomy in Nov so want to increase my exercise in Oct to be more fit going in. Spent the last 1-1/2 yrs recuperating from breast Ca and chemo so it's time to work on me.9

Margaret ❤️ - that home your sounds so delightful! I lived at one point in a third-floor apartment in one of the grand old homes in Columbus OH. It has since been restored, thank goodness. It had lively carved wood paneling going up the entry stairway to the second floor and an immense stained glass window in art deco style of lilies on the land in. I wish the homes in that area would have a tour sometime when I'm visiting back there.
Lanette - It always amused me when driving my truck at night what odd stations would pop up on the radio. I've been tempted to look for a cheap shortwave radio just to listen in.

I'm again setting my goal of logging food AND water every day. I'm falling down on hydration badly. I also want to set a goal of going through my mail every day. It stacks up seemingly quickly. I hate doing it, though. So much junk, and so few really important items besides the usual monthly statements.
My starting weight for this month is 242.2. I'm down almost 20# from my peak. My surgery date isn't set yet but will be sometime in late November/early December. I'm getting all my food supplies in for the post surgery period. I'll also need easy to take vitamins, etc.

I just got a notice that the assessment hearing is being proposed to be rescheduled due to monies from the state sales tax that they collected. I'm still going to the meeting and presenting my objections however. I will let everyone know how it goes!

Margaret adore historic homes and mansions, sounds like my kind of outing! Also the she shed/zen den is so relaxing and well appointed, a great little cozy space
