Ive noticed that everyone seems to be on keto and doing well. Ive done it and its not for me. I can't live with my occasional piece of toast or glass of wine. I guess what im look for are people who are have success with weightloss by just counting calories. ☺

Me! weight loss is hard enough without cutting out food groups
I lost 100lbs twice (urgh) and more recently 31pds without paying much attention to carbs but rather overall calories11 -
I think that any restrictive diet is doomed to fail. Like MrTee1985, I am just doing my own thing and am being successful. I call it the "Don't be a dumbass" eating plan. I am trying to lose weight and get fit. Not sure if that's where you are in your journey.
Some keys to eating and exercise success as far as I see it:
-Be mindful about what you shove in your face. Think about what you are goingto eat before you eat it. Ask yourself if it fits in your plan for the day. Oh yeah, have a plan.
- Don't restrict foods. If you want carbs, eat carbs. Be mindful about how it will affect your plan for the day/week/whatever.
- Log everything, every day.
- DON'T KILL YOURSELF IN THE GYM. Take your time, take it slow. Everyone wants instant results, but pushing it too hard and getting injured is a quick ticket to the "I quit" train.
Good luck! Enjoy some wine once in a while33 -
I'm not on the keto train - I count my calories and eat my carbs & drink my wine and I have lost about 20 lbs11

I live in Italy. It's hard to live here without eating carbs--pasta, pizza, breads,........However, the majority of the Italians are slim, so I guess it's portion control. So that's what I do. Works for me.14
-
I’m not. Tho i did lose 70 pounds before using Keto (years before this whole craze.)
Currently I’m just counting calories. I’ve lost 10 pounds my first month.4 -
no keto here, i've dropped 75 lbs on the good old fashion 30(f)/30(p)/40(c) diet and just watching caloric intake.3
-
I'm not. I do so much better, and feel so much better, with about 50% carbs. :drinker:7
-
Hell no - I like carbs and carbs like me.16
-
You will pry those carbs from my cold, dead hands.
Lost 75 lbs 3 years ago by simply eating less and moving more and have been in maintenance ever since. Never cut out a single thing that I love. Just had smaller portions and made sure my macros were being met.11 -
Definitely not keto here. I aim for balance and variety. There are plenty of us. It just seems like everyone is on keto because it's the diet du jour. Couple years ago it was Paleo, in a couple years it will be something else.11
-
I'm not on keto. I eat about 40% carbs. All the newbies coming and announcing they are on keto is exhausting. I think Keto is definitely a fad and I'm going to predict that we get metabolic and health problems from it. There is specific reasons to use it, but they are rare.6
-
❤ my carbs!
Maybe it works for some, but it's just another fad that will pass.4 -
Keto might work for some folks, but it's not for me. I do my own thing by counting calories, being mindful of the nutrients I take in, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep and exercise, and limiting treats. Balance is key in my opinion.7
-
I'm not on keto, either. It looks like the Atkins diet under a new name, and a recipe for long-term health issues. I want to get fit *and* I want to be healthy for many years to come, so no keto for me.3
-
Lost seventy pounds and been on maintenance six years. Tried low carb once and was super miserable. Didn't get past the "flu" part and broke down and had me some carbs. Never felt better. I enjoy tons of carbs - fruit, PB, just had pasta, tons of legumes, any vegetable I want (even starchy ones!), sugar occasionally if I want it. Weight, BP, blood sugar, all vital signs fantastic. It's like the internet, I don't know what we did before Keto...
I'm not actually anti-Keto. I have read some positive things about it, even recently. I do think it might beneficial for some. It's just not for me. I think, honestly, it's the diet of choice for those that don't like to exercise and want the easiest path. I'd say 9 out of 10 I've seen on Keto also detest exercise. Bacon, Pork Rinds, heavy cream, etc. is appealing to many. At least they are giving up too much sugar, which is great.6 -
No keto for me. Just counting calories and eating foods I like in moderation. I am down ~77 pounds and have been in maintenance for almost a year. Keto is not necessary. If it works for you then fine, but if not then don't do it. You need to find a way of eating that you will be happy with for ever.10

I just stopped keto after a month of failure. lost roughly 5 pounds while my keto companions were up to 20-15. Went to the doctor yesterday and it has ruined my immune system; she's got me on vitamins to boost it back up. It made a bunch of my other meds not work and destroyed my guts. I've been counting calories nearly a week instead and I'm losing weight again. No thank you to keto!12

Keto would not be a way of eating I would want to continue for the rest of my life. I just count calories, and eat a healthy diet, just less of everything! And it's working well for me, and I can keep losing, and later mainraining, by eating this way.3

Since my trigger food is bread - and lots of it - I had to initially find out what meal plan works best for me. Since there are essential oils, essential proteins, essential vitamins, essential minerals but NO essential carbohydrates (or does anyone know of an essential carbs?) I took it easy with carbs to start with - around 50 g. per day. Over the last 6 1/2 months this increased slowly to between 90 and 100 g., mainly from vegetables, some fruit and milk products. According to the macros I eat a balanced meal and I can stick to this meal plan long term. So far I have lost about 25 kg - meal by meal, day by day.2

I know nothing about Keto just another fad like paleo was a few years back IMO there will be something new in a year or 2 just wait for it.
I just track and maintain my weight loss, workout and do bulk and cutting cycles for the last 5 years. Just track what you eat and you're good.1 -
You can take my carbs when you pry them from my cold dead fingers. I just don't find fat that satiating.4

You have given such great advice! I follow your eating and exercise plan to a T.

No keto here! I count macros! Protein, carbs and fat! Love it all!0
-
Also not keto. Been there, done that (miserably). I like carbs and am losing fat just fine.1
-
Technically not keto; protein is too high & fat is restricted too much, moderate carbohydrates, ~100grams (bas*ardized keto). Actually changing my macros in a few weeks due to Seasonal weather changes (higher carbohydrates, cutting protein back, fat will be about the same).
High fat, restricted protein always results in a less than stellar physique (less fullness, look more flat, overall musculature & detail begins to look lacking) & performance at least for myself & is generally not recommended for weight lifters2 -
I completely ignore carbs, and just eat to calorie goal, plus eat a certain minimum of fats and protein, plus plenty of fruits/veggies (love 'em). I did that all through weight loss (50ish pounds) a couple of years ago, and continuing to now (going into year 3 of maintanence). Carbs usually end up around 200g, plus or minus 50. Sooo, sooo not keto. I go over the MFP default sugar goal pretty much every day (inherent sugars, mostly, not added).
Keto is great for people who find that limiting carbs reduces appetite/cravings, or for a few specific medical conditions. I'm not among those people.2 -
I don't do Keto, or any other type of "diet". I eat clean and adjust my eating habits as needed. I don't have an issue with diets, but they just don't work for me. The closest "program" that comes to my eating habits is Bill Phillips "Eating for Life", though I don't get much into supplements or eating 6 times a day.1
-
I started out on Keto.
After a couple of weeks I realized it was not the plan for me.
If I couldn't stay on the plan for 2 weeks how was I going to stay on it for ever?
I count calories and pay attention to macros.
I'm losing about 4 pounds a week just eating better and walking 30 minutes a day.
Down over 30 pounds with another 80 or so to go.0
