Hey, I didn't mean to bring up negativity regarding the mud avoiding trail runners. I just thought it was funny and ironic... That's all. They were probably new to trail running. They'll either get it or not, and either way is fine.

Forecast was 10 percent chance of precip overnight and nothing today. I spent the night on the boat and woke up to snow! It's been snowing all day. It was starting to accumulate on the sails but now it's melting (but still snowing!) I need to finish up here and get back home and get Kody out for a run, hopefully while it's still snowing.

I was thinking as I ran, today is in honor of Dennis #keeprunningfatboy Ley. I didn't sign up for a time slot, so I guess I was a bandit runner in honor of Dennis, from 18:46 to 19:51 GMT. If that covered a hole the schedule, great! If not, think of me as a virtual cheerleader running beside the official runner(s) for that time period. [Edited to fix time conversion.]

I ran my hour for Dennis this morning from 8:30 - 9:30. I actually ran from 8:30 until 10:10 and went for 9 miles. It was a great run. I was hoping for a pretty day, but it wasn't that pretty. We have had a lot of rain all weekend. It is usually not rainy here. So there was no sunshine. I was hoping for cool and sunny. It wasn't raining, but it was 61F with a dew point of 61 and 99% humidity. So even though it wasn't raining there was plenty of water in the air. I really enjoyed the run though. It wasn't hot and I just thought about how lucky I am to be able to run. I am always surprised that sometimes when I think it isn't nice out and it won't be a good run it ends up being a really awesome run. I mean, sometimes it sucks, but today was really good even though it wasn't the weather I was hoping for. I loved the idea that others were also running in Dennis' memory. Then toward the end of my run I saw several monarch butterflies. Monarchs always make me happy and remind me that life goes on.

There were lots of good races this weekend! Congrats to all who ran. @shanaber I am so glad to hear that the pathology report for Hobbes was good news. @HonuNui I also remembered that this was the weekend that we did the Aim for Melanoma virtual run last year. I thought about you and Steve on my run as well.

We are supposed to get rain all week, so I do not know when I will be running this week. I will just have to look for a good window each day and run when I can.

Just finished my run for Dennis in place of rheddmobile. The weather is perfect and I got my first 10k distance!
I attempted to upload the image from Strava but cannot figure out how or how to sync strava with MFP. It was a slow 6.2 miles at 1 hour 27 minutes but I made it.

My face still hurts, my knees are still bruised, as is my wrist. Looks like I was not able to prevent scarring to the shoulder and face....I did the route I fell on from last week on 10/13.....I was about a foot away from the side of the bridge. I could have ended up in McAdoo Creek!

Thank you so much for your run! As it turns out the promised storm hasn't materialized yet and is due in a few hours, so I could have run today, but it was nice not having to stress about it and being able to do it yesterday when the skies were clear.

So @KeepRunningFatboy you made me do it and I thank you for it. Having not run for a good few weeks, I knew it was going to be a struggle to be out there running our relay for you, but I was going to walk if I had to. And then the rain started.

I had to channel my inner @Avidkeo to get myself out there, but it’s never as bad running in the rain as you think it will be.

And you know what happened? My run in the relay taught me again how much fun running can be, how even in the rain there are plenty of things to smile about.

I imagined too, you up there somewhere with a wry smile about a bunch of people you’ve never met, who don’t think of themselves as strangers, running across the world for you.

This mornings run was for you, and for all the people who don’t get to run any more. But it was also for me, so thank you for that inspiration.

@7lenny7 - we usually say you can tell a road runner from the way they approach puddles....

Personally I LOVE splashing through them. Some of my puddles today were deeper than expected and there’s often mud hidden, but I actually LIKE the feeling of my feet suddenly cooling. @midwesterner85 I prefer quick draining shoes to waterproof.

Oh and very well done @Orphia and you @Elise4270 - 2nd femal in age well done you!!!

QM race report?

Weather was perfect at the start, clear mid-low 50's (50F=10C) very light breeze.

Miles 1-2 were fine. Did not feel strong, tried so hard to rein it in but i was surrounded by strong runners, not the walkers that stage incorrectly. So i hung in there, tried to find the pace screen on my watch, that was still set up for interval training... Gave up, just tried to go by breathing.

Mile 3-4 it became clear that i would not run this without pain. Mile 4 walked a bit and had a full strength Gatorade (great race venue, but i did expect 1/2 water).

Mile 5. Plauged with left ITB pain and right hip pain, i tried to talk myself up. But every step hurt more than the last. 5.80 walked some more.

Made it to 6 miles and struggled overcoming the bodily resistance. Last bit it became evident, I really do need that next appointment with the doc. I kept catching myself holding my breath, somehow hoping it'd help with the pain. It did not.

Made it across the finish line. Awesome medal, btw I'll have to add a pic to Strava, i was so pained rum dum that i had no joy in completing this race. Then guilt for not being able to hold the memory of @KeepRunningFatboy . Eating danishes also did not help trick the brain from processing the crybaby knee/itb.

As of now, I'm crossing all my races off. Well, Hawaii is still on. I can do 2 mile relays. And im cutting my runs back to 2-3 miles.

Waited on Eric to finish the half. Froze. Stiffened up. Shuffled half way back to the hotel before Eric caught up to me and offered to get the car so i didn't have to walk another block. I'm in sad sad shape. Hot shower and bath, hot coffee i felt better. Right hip is cranky. Left itb is horrid. I'll fetch the ice pack soon.

As you may have noticed on Strava, i placed 2nd AG. Eric 1st AG. I just have no happy in it since it seems I'm done racing/runnin for a while.... again.. or again and again... Or is it again, again and again... (Yes overly dramatic poor me).

This morning I was a spectator at the local races - a 10K, half, and full marathon. It was a gorgeous day out and the race had staggered the starts so that all 3 races were finishing in close overlapping times. Which was fun to watch but slightly confusing as the bib color scheme of red, orange, and yellow was hard to make out from very far away. They started and finished in the baseball stadium so I was watching outside at the last 1/4 mile as the rounded into the stadium for a while then went inside and watched. I missed a few of the fastest finishers as I had to go to work briefly before that, but was excited to see many of my run club teammates just killing it. Two of the guys in our club finished 1st and 2nd overall in the marathon! Our coach took 3rd in the half. Lots of teammates succeeded in their longest ever race. Fun and inspiring day out there.

I took a long walk with the pup when I got home and then waited until later to do my run. It was a really nice early evening and I set out to do a short run at an easy pace. I felt like I could do more but in the spirit of taper I kept it to 30 minutes (and ignored my inner voice trying to convince me I couldn't stop until it said 3 miles even - yes I can!).

I didn't sign up for a time for the relay for Dennis, but I ran alongside you all and dedicated my run to him nonetheless. He inspired me on a personal level, as he did most of us I'm sure - and just reading his username KeepRunningFatBoy would always give me a little smile and a kick in the pants to keep my own self moving. I know that he did the Marine Corps Marathon as one of his races and I will think of him as I run my first marathon there in two weeks. A former fat girl will keep running!

@orphia congratulations on finishing a tough marathon! You are so strong.

@Elise4270 I'm so sorry you felt so much pain with your running. I'm sure you wanted this to go so differently and feel like you were finally back to running. Congrats on your AG place, even if it doesn't give you any joy right now - it's something! A testament to how tough you are. Wishing you well in recovering and going back to the doctor about your pain. And you did do something in memory of KeepRunningFatboy. He would be proud of you.

Today's notes – As noted in my earlier post, this was a bandit run in the 24 hours for Dennis @KeepRunningFatboy from 18:46 to 19:51 GMT. I had originally planned a 7.2 mile route, but I adjusted it late to be sure I was over an hour for Dennis. I think during mile 4, I noticed the scenery was pretty, and stopped to take a picture of early fall colors for you:

It was great weather, 58º F (14º C) and low humidity. Felt great pretty much from getting out of my driveway, and I reflected how different this was from summer runs that didn't feel good till a mile into the run. I was also a little surprised at how I wasn't noticeably beat up from running a hard 15K yesterday.

So far, this has been the easiest and best marathon recovery period I've ever had.

It's so awesome seeing everyone's runs for Dennis, whether planned or not. My lower right leg has been bothering me, as it seems to do at the end of every training season, and it was particularly bothersome after my run yesterday, so I played it safe and just spent my time slot walking instead of running. I don't typically go out for walks that often and when I do, I have music. My phone died 20 minutes in, so it was actually quite nice to spend the majority of the walk in silence reflecting about life and thinking about Dennis. The weather suddenly changed to fall temperatures a few days ago and I actually had to wear gloves on my walk (as I did on my run yesterday). I'm loving the colder temps!

Now that I look in detail, each year is a little different. 2015 is the white handle and doesn't have the GRTC logo on the back. The other white handle and the black handle have the same design on front and back, and I don't know which is 2016 or 2017. I expect 2018 to look enough similar to fit into the set.

Completed my Run for Dennis this afternoon.

Crazy thing happened though. I took some new shoes out of their box for the run. I have a really funky hammer toe on my left foot - it's so bad that it's actually a ^ shape with a knob on the top. Same shoes I've run in for years (Altra's are on my list to try soon though). At any rate - the pain where the new shoe was rubbing that toe was horrible. At mile 3 I finally stopped and took the shoe off only to find that my sock had a hole in it - which had lodged around a toe and was cutting off circulation! Once I freed the toe of the sock, the pain was nearly gone. Needless to say - the sock is in the trash.

@shanaber - thanks for the advice. I've already printed it out! The race is on a Saturday. I plan to arrive either Tuesday or Wednesday to acclimate to the altitude.

@MobyCarp - I am in complete and total awe that you can a full marathon just 2 weeks ago and you've jumped right back in with more races. My hat is off to you!
